Responsive architecture is an emerging field of design. Its objective is to respond to measured forces using sensors. This allows buildings to meet the changing needs of the environment. The purpose of my project is to explore the possibilities of integrating technology into buildings and to create a living architecture that can sense and respond to the built environment. My inspiration is to explore the subject of dynamic architecture in the built environment. Buildings have always been perceived as rigid objects which results in an architecture that lacks responsiveness to changing environmental.

About The project is a design for maker space located in the corner of 9th and elm st. in Columbia Missouri. A maker space is a place that combines manufacturing equipment, community, and education for the purpose of enabling student to design, prototype and create manufactured works that wouldn’t be possible to create with the resources available for individuals. For this particular project, there are two major challenges which are the site and the collaboration aspect of the classes. Since the site connects Columbia Missouri downtown with MU campus, the challenge was to design a building that represent the campus and the history of downtown. Design Concept The inspiration of the design concept is derived from three developed abstract ideas the intersection of the site, fabricated materials, and the collaboration of students, each one tries to tackle one aspect of the general design concept. Therefore, the concept of the building design is an attempt trying to create a reflection between both the exterior and the interior of the building in which the exterior draws an image about the function of the building. New digital technology shapes how buildings are conceptualized and designed as well as how they are constructed.

The Missouri River is known for being the longest river in North America (2,341 MI). Due to its heavy loads of sediment/silt this river was coined the name “Big Muddy�. Being a main contributor to the Mississippi River, the Missouri River transports more than half the total silt that empties into the Gulf of Mexico. Due to the high magnitude of single type crop farming throughout the Midwestern US the top soil, which is often treated with harmful chemicals, is unstable and likely to erode into the river systems. This increase in fertilizers can lead to algal blooms along coasts which decreases biodiversity, changes in species composition/dominance, and toxicity. Plant Species During our site visit we experienced a diverse range of plant and animal life. A) Rough horsetail is a perennial herb with reed-like stalks that resemble bamboo; it can withstand seasonal flooding and is seen as invasive in come countries due to its aggressive underground root system. B.) Tall grass prairie is a native ecosystem to central North America; this native grass is vital to water quality, native plant communities, and grassland wildlife. C) Kudzu is a native plant of Asia known for its climbing,coiling, and trailing vines; originally brought to the US as an ornamental plant to shade porches it is now an aggressively invasive weed that climbs over trees and shrubs killing them by heavy shading.

Function- Traveling through the public spaces our building ends at the private sleeping units.
Notched dikes- Allows the river to flow between notches and stop diverting flow. 37
Columns- Structural support inspired by drift wood that collects along the dikes
Direction- Running perpendicular to the shore, the dikes stabilize eroding banks.

take the time to visit the wildlife refuge our site is located on. We want our visitors to leave their busy lives in the city and feel fully submerged in nature. Visitors will gain a first hand appreciation for the importance of wildlife and river conservation attending our facility and the crucial role that rivers play is the well being of communities.

The Lake house is located in union lake Michigan, the lake house is built on a narrow lot, surrounded by the neighboring houses on both its sides. The back side of the house is attached to the street and the front opens up to the lake front. The Solution Was to create massive concrete walls on the sides, which creates the outer shell for the house. The concrete wall have a diamond-like shape openings that allow daylight to enter the house from the sides. The narrowness of the site allowed me to create an slice along the East side of the structure. The slice becomes the vertical circulation of the house with a constant view to the lake.

On February 2, 1987, University officials designated this newly designed space to be a "speaker's circle,"allowing anyone to speak here without a permit. This space Is still Valuable for students on campus. The Nest Shell Is to be a pavilion Placed at the heart of " Speaker's Circle". The Design is based on a series of thin fabricated metal pieces that arrays along one axis and connect vertically to one main point at the end of every piece.
