CINEMA & FILM M U S E U M
2 AMMAN CINEMA &FILM MUSEUM(2019)
P ROJ ECT B R I E F In the past, The cinema in amman was a main factor in forming the cultural identity of the Ammanis. At the prime of its time, schools used to arrange educational/cultural field trips to the cinemas, which helped form a deep appreciation and connection to arts and films.
CONCEPT To design an inconventional cinema experience that combines the memories and nostelgia of the past and the future of the film industry. 3 layers were intorduced to fulfil that expereince through a journey that takes the users in a movie like expereince, and these activites are exposed to the outside.
These cinemas have slowly started to fade with the emergence of large shopping malls, which has led a lot of standalone cinema buildings to close down towards the end of the millennium -none of which are currently operational; for example, Cinema Al-Hussein, Cinema Al-Khayyam. These buildings are currently abandoned and in a derelict condition. The aim of this project is to give the people an opportunity to relive the forgotten cinema experience and support the local film and cinema industry in Jordan by utilizing the talents of the rising generation of young jordanian filmmakers as well as existing well known local film makers in addition to exposing them to the public community. The a revival of the cultural identity which was lost to hollywood movies, that reflect a very different lifestyle in the west and do not fit within our local community. A need rises to capture the attention of the people to introduce them and redraw the image of the local film art.
