in lieu of plastics, promotion of green protocol through nudging messages in the campus display board etc. are some of the noteworthy plastic waste reduction initiatives.

To promote the next hierarchical principle of reuse and recycle, used clothes are collected from students and recycled into cloth bags. In association with a program of Kochi Biennale 2016, Bhoomitra Sena Club collected 5230 used pens from the students of the college and handed over to the authorities to be upcycled into aesthetically beautiful works of art.

Waste baskets have been provided in all class rooms and staff rooms to collect dry waste which is collected by the cleaning staff on a daily basis. Different coloured bins are provided in the campus and hostel to segregate biodegradable and non-bio degradable waste.

Bio-degradable waste are converted into biogas through 2 biogas plants; one in the arts and one in the science block. This renewable source of energy is used for cooking in the hostel.

TROP

Teresian Rural Outreach Programme

83

The Teresian Rural Outreach Programme initiated by the college is designed to meet the individual needs of selected communities.

The outreach programme focuses on key areas such as academic improvement and skill development, nutritional awareness and health care, environmental consciousness and conduct of awareness campaigns.

Teresian Outreach Program (TROP) focuses on the need to uplift the underprivileged in the community, and at the same time inculcate in students the values of service, commitment to the community and society, thereby conscientising them on the needs and demands of the country at large.

One of the finest examples of the Teresian commitment toward social causes is the ‘Teresian Outreach Programme (TROP)’.

This is a unique Teresian project to reach out to the marginalized and under privileged communities of Panangad, Vypeen, Karuthedam, Kuzhupilly etc.

The aim of the Teresian Outreach Program (TROP) is dual, focusing on the need to uplift the underprivileged in the community, and at the same time inculcate in students the values of service, commitment to the community and society, thereby conscientising them on the needs and demands of the country at large.
