SITE

Site The design has been conceived in an urban context which is one of the new development of a mixed community in Dubai stretching to over 900,000 square meters of MERAAS with a new concept based upon the new concept of The City Walk. The whole community derives its architecture and its patterns with handling the traffic and vehicular movements segregated from the pedestrianized ones creating plazas, areas to create movements which are more pedestrian. The site is encompassed via landscaped areas having a green boundary. Furthermore, has adecent view towards burj khalifa and the central park, Central park being the new improvement gotten ready for CityWalk. Citywalk being a smaller than normal city, the school would be a fundamental advancement to finish the spot. The site is located near citywalk dubai. the site was chosen due to the present and future developments of residential and commercial zones in the area making it an ideal location for a futuristic school.

SITE |

Design Respecting the pedestrian axis from the city walk, the design involves the same axis for pedestrians. it connects the city walk and the villas nearby making this school a center for socializing and learning and having a very different concept from a conventional school. Unlike typical schools this design is not surrounded by boundary walls but open to students as well as the public but having considered the safety of students certain strategies have been made. Even though the school remains open for all certain areas remain inaccessible to the public during the school hours. Concept Sketch

The lower ground level is at a -4m level. the sports field is on this level to ensure safety for the students and depressing the ground makes it cooler. The bus parking is also on this level because it is visually pleasing to see the architecture of the building than to see the buses parked right in front. Section

Strategy of designing for a user-friendly and secure, movement and activity zones handled at an overall level with respect to the site to create patterns which can be developed with varied levels being sunken and some above derived with accesses and egress to be user friendly and at the same time serving the purpose with a proper interconnectivity of spaces derived with use of natural light and ventilation worked in an optimized fashion where air-conditioning can be avoided. Segregating the public spaces, the private space, and how they are divided. The ground level is designed to be more for the public users. The students doesn’t have direct access to these spaces. Also, the public users cannot access the student spaces and classrooms during school hours.

HEXA-CITY SEMESTER 7 - HOUSING COMMUNITY

19

20 |

CONCEPT

CONCEPT Inspired from the nature of a honeycomb pattern this residential community is designed in such a way that the residences are connected and segregated accordingly to form an infinite pattern around the depressed garden; such that each building has direct connection to the garden space. There are cut-outs within the buildings which provide a see through view to infinity and beyond! The thought of a community with a direct connection to the garden was deduced; also providing an infinite view to the user was given importance. All the internal roads are connected to the central infinity road. The pedestrian bridge lies parallel to the central road connecting each building to the main park making it directly accessible without any barrier.
