DOES LANGUAGE CHANGE THE WAY WE THINK?

STYLE & LOCATION

READ is a cultural center where people can learn and be entertained. The methods of rehabilitation and adaptive reuse is the process of re-purposing old buildings that have outlived their original purpose for new functions other than what they were originally made for, while maintaining the historic features.

The interior enhances the mood and creates an aura around the stories that features an interesting introduction on those letters and languages.

The concept was derived form the name of the palace itself named after the street it is located in, Champollion, this famous discoverer who discovered the Rosetta stone, which uncovered the logic of the ancient Egyptian language and its secrets.

ENVIROMENT & CONCEPT

INSPIRATION we started

the journey by looking into the culture we found a huge fishing and sailing history we took the harbor birds as inspiration we took the wings as our main geometric inspiration as a shield structure over the building.

Located in Bahrain a very small country (island) with very tough environmental conditions and very rich culture. The challenge was to find solutions that would look good and be functional, a shape that is playful enough yet looks youthful and fun, forming this combination between classic and modern, creating a design element with shade and shadow and light and the contradiction between them.

39

ENVIROMENTAL SOLUTIONS After a number of weather researches on different weather programs. We started Positioning the building to face the wind and to have minimum sun Exposure to control the building temperatures adding the court in the middle and wing like structure to collect the wind and pass it through the building to regulate the surrounding and inner temperatures giving natural solutions using the geometry of the building.

40

THE FLYING CENTER

CREATING ZONES We started to shape the architecture underneath as functional as possible. Designing a middle court that acts as a light and wind source and the wing as a sail to collect that wind.

I HAVE always been fascinated by

the idea of form in architecture and how much of it transcends in fashion i found fashion and architecture have so much in common. CONCEPT Architecture

has been developing in the last 50 years in a way that makes fashion wants to follow , i looked at form and implemented two games genres of design .

Inside the workshop

Paper is a malleable yet very strong material that has a force and also flexibility, I used paper folding and cutting techniques to come up with interesting shapes. During the workshop
