The story of why Aston Martin remains the most desirable automobile brand of the century.

A

typically fast-paced working day at the Dubai International Financial Centre is interrupted. Wealth Management professionals, walking down the paved arenas of DIFC in bespoke suits, juggling high-importance calls between their many smartphones, take a deep breath. The monotony around icy glass-walled offices, with the usual stutter of keyboards, escapes for an elaborate moment as the window panes tremble. It is the unmistakable roar of an Aston Martin V12 motor. As the Skyfall Silver Vanquish Volante rumbles down the road, emitting a bassy growl, the elegant lines of the car leave a trail of wavy reflections on the towers of financial influence. Despite the omnipresence of luxurious, sporty automobiles all over the streets of Dubai, smartphone cameras are drawn out, and a collective air of aspiration arises wherever the Aston Martin goes. What is it about an Aston Martin – any Aston Martin – that evokes a response of this kind every single time, unfailingly? Some say it’s the timeless design, some say it’s the symphony of the exhaust note. What every individual agrees on, however, is the classic combination of Power, Beauty, Soul that represents every Aston Martin created since the birth of the marque.

6

The History The legacy of Aston Martin goes beyond the aweinspiring mechanicals and specifications of its cars. It all began on a memorable day in London, England on January 15, 1913 – the day Aston Martin was founded, by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. A year later, on January 01, 1914, the first Aston Martin creation came to life. Called the ‘Coal Scuttle’, the beautiful automobile was built to exceptional quality standards and was regarded as a capable, fast tourer. In essence, the spirit of this Aston still lingers around the incredible Astons of today. In its 101 years of creating luxury performance car excellence, Aston Martin has to its credit a legacy of iconic models, each one of which represents the characteristics of the brand in their purest form. From the revered driving experience, to the attention to detail on the elegant interior, an Aston Martin is not simply a car – it’s an experience, a treat to the senses. Aston Martin In The UAE As a brand, Aston Martin feels at home in the United Arab Emirates, which is a centre of global achievement and excellence. The UAE has always been driven by progress and development without

compromising on its heritage, traditions and the importance of the esteemed individuals who form its foundations, and this philosophy fits that of Aston Martin’s like a glove. The cars of today are increasingly performance-driven, and the level of technology in application can put a spacecraft from the yesteryears to shame, but what makes an Aston Martin special is the meticulous craftsmanship imparted to even the out-of-sight elements in its construction. For The Individual The modern day Aston Martin owner isn’t so by means of drawing comparisons; he is an owner by the gift of an acquired taste, a passion for timeless works of art, a penchant for only the best in quality and elegance. These qualities can be found in every car Aston Martin currently produces, from the potent V8 Vantage to the suave Vanquish Volante. What also contributes to Aston Martin’s wide appeal is the diversity in its model portfolio. There really is an Aston Martin for every successful individual. The ballistic V12 Vantage S for the enthusiastic achiever, the DB9 for the sophisticated professional, and the Rapide for the perfectionist with flair – and that’s excluding the many limited edition models that have entered the lives of a select few. For ambitious individuals from around the world, a car is not simply an

accessory; it’s an extension of their personalities. In a country that is racing towards establishing itself as better than the best, it is only too crucial to be ‘driven’, in a motivational sense. This explains why Aston Martins graced many a porch in the UAE in the year 2013, the year of its centenary, and continue to bring celebration into people’s lives in 2014.

If there ever was a four-door with lines as desirable as these, it has got to be the gorgeous Rapide S

The 007 Connection Aston Martins are synonymous with the fictional British Secret Service agent who answers to the tune of ‘Bond, James Bond’. Agent 007, as he prefers to be addressed as, has a history of exciting motoring escapades with Aston Martins through the years. From the classic DB5 in the film Goldfinger to the kitted-to-the-gills V12 Vanquish in Die Another Day, and the DB5 again, in Skyfall, Aston Martins are an indispensable part of the excitement for he who is regarded as ‘the best spy in the world’. From being equipped with ejection seats to hidden missiles and artillery yet to be invented, Agent 007’s Aston Martins have always attracted the fancy of individuals young and old from around the world. The Experience Aston Martin’s tremendous success in the UAE, and the Middle East region, can be credited to not just the quality and desirability of its automobiles, but also to the experience that associating with the brand is. The Aston Martin experience begins from

the very moment one enters the showroom facility. From being treated to an interactive audio-visual configuration programme, over a generous palette of classic English tea, to engaging in an intricate tailoring process for the many elements in an Aston Martin that you can order to bespoke specifications, the Aston Martin buying experience is a truly elevating experience. Not to mention the visual delicacy that seeing an assortment of sinewy Aston Martins, under the spotlight, is. The special treatment is extended to

the service experience as well, which is as effortless and rewarding as driving a Vanquish Volante into the sunset is. Last, but certainly not the least, is the Q experience, which is the peak of Aston Martin’s bespoke customisation programmes. The Future Time and again, Aston Martin has crafted cars that

outdo even its own excellence. Take, for example, the ferocious One-77, which will be remembered, eternally, as the one car that combined brute force with classic elegance only reminiscent of an Aston Martin. The best example of this, however, is the CC100 Speedster concept car that took centrestage at the 2013 Dubai International Motor Show. Evoking strong emotions harking back to the ’50s era of LeMans racing, creating a blend with modern-day supercar performance, and offering a design that pleases either extreme to the very maximum, the CC100 is an icon in the world of concept cars. The icing on the cake, of course, is the fact that the CC100’s personality will echo in the future direction of Aston Martins. Something that has already taken shape in the lightning quick V8 Vantage N430, which borrows the concept of light construction, meaty performance and even offers an exclusive paint scheme derived from that of the CC100’s. The Legacy In the warmly-lit environs of gentlemen’s clubs, Aston Martins are often regarded as assets. An Aston Martin is, and always has been, recognised as beyond the sum of all of its well-engineered components. The exclusivity of owning an Aston Martin is an emotion that lasts a lifetime, and the experience that comes with it defines one’s appreciation of style, sophistication and performance. Amidst the soaring skyscrapers and vibrant arenas of the UAE, an Aston Martin blends in perfectly, while still standing out in a crowd, with a sense of discreet exuberance. Cruising down the Financial Centre, surrounded by the ultimate in luxury, at the controls of the finest work of engineering art, and making time come to a gentle halt, is an Aston Martin owner – a man with a taste for only the finest. A taste for Power, Beauty, Soul.

AUDI A

l Nabooda Automobiles, the sole distributor of Audi in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, is set to catch the eyes of local residents as they showcase a host of popular car models at MotorVillage - DIFC’s first ever multi brand motor show.

Ali Al Nabooda, General Manager, Audi, Al Nabooda Automobiles said: “We’re excited to be taking part in the MotorVillage show. It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase four of our premium Audi models.” The flagship Audi R8 supercar is part of the MotorVillage line-up of the 21 premium cars on display. The 316 kW (430 hp) V8 FSI engine, quattro permanent all-wheel drive and the body built according to the Audi Space Frame principle secures the R8 as one of Dubai’s most sort-after sports cars. The stance of the R8 on the road is broad-based and stable, with powerful proportions, emphatic wheel arches and air inlets of ample size, all demonstrating its performance potential. This is an Audi which has never been seen before. Determining the clear proportions of this mid-engine car are the cabin positioned well forward and the engine immediately behind. A characteristic feature of the side view of the R8 is the “sideblade”, which acts as an air spoiler and visually emphasises the engine position. Audi’s aerodynamics experts worked so thoroughly on the R8 that the body always generates the necessary amount of downthrust – in contrast to many other sports cars. This naturally increases dynamic stability at high speeds. It is achieved by the extendable rear spoiler, but mostly due to the fully clad underbody diffuser. The R8 has a six-speed gearbox, either with clutch and manual shift or with the automated R-tronic shift. This hi-tech system is an entirely new development and is faster than even the most experienced driver, communicating authentic race-car feeling with its shift paddles at the steering wheel. R-tronic tackles even racingstyle starts effortlessly, thanks to its Launch Control programme. The Audi R8 combines its supreme performance not only with a surprising degree of day-to-day practicality, but also with

10

exclusive equipment. Nonetheless, there is a list of optional extras containing additional highlights – for instance many forms of interior customisation, the Audi parking system advanced with integral rear-view camera or the superb sound system from Bang & Olufsen for exceptional music listening pleasure. Electrically adjustable seats provide a touch of luxury or, in complete contrast, sports bucket seats from the Audi exclusive programme instil pure racing atmosphere into the R8.

honeycomb-quilted Valcona leather or a combination of black Alcantara and leather with diamond quilting. Audi also offers optional power-adjustable comfort seats with memory function.

Combining the power of a sports car and the elegance of a large, five-door coupe is the RS 7, a luxurious sedan that Al Nabooda Automobiles will showcase alongside three other Audi models in DIFC.

Its dynamic proportions and distinctive lines express its character. All the engines for the Q7 combine two technologies: forced induction and direct fuel injection. A high-performance recuperation system that recovers energy during braking is also a standard item. Audi has given all six- and eight-cylinder Q7 versions an automatic transmission, while the eight-speed tiptronic lowers fuel consumption by about five percent.

The long engine hood, the 2.92 meter wheelbase and the short overhangs create a sculpture with powerfully harmonious proportions. With its low, flowing roof line, the RS 7 is striking from any angle. Specific details on the exterior, including the distinctively styled bumpers, partly tinted LED headlights, the high-gloss black grill and the flared sills, set sporty accents. The sharply sloping, truncated rear end sports a distinctive spoiler lip – a classic sports car feature. Thanks to Audi’s lightweight hybrid aluminum design, it weighs roughly 15 percent less than a comparable all-steel body. The Audi RS 7 comes with 20-inch forged aluminum wheels in seven twin-spoke design. The internally vented brake discs feature a wave design for a weight saving of nearly three kilograms. The elegant dynamics of the exterior carry over to the interior of the Audi RS 7. The cockpit is tailored to the driver, with the centre console orientated in the driver’s direction. The RS specific elements include the dial instruments, the flat-bottomed, threespoke, multifunction steering wheel and the illuminated entry sills, the gear selector lever as well as aluminum-look finish shift paddles and trim elements. RS sport seats with pronounced side bolsters and integrated head restraints are standard. They are covered in high-grade,

12

Al Nabooda Automobiles leading SUV, the Q7 will also share centre stage at the forthcoming MotorVillage show. Known for its sporty qualities, this comfortable, high-performance recreational and business vehicle is perfect for the Dubai roads.

The Q7 comes with a wide range of standard equipment. The speed dependent servotronic steering system is standard, as is the four zone automatic air conditioning, the electric seat adjustment with lumbar support for the front seats and an MMI radio operating system complete with a CD player in the 3.0 TFSI and CD changer in the 3.0 TFSI Supercharged. The Audi Q7 3.0 TFSI is equipped with the Audi Parking System plus standard while the Q7 3.0 TFSI Supercharged features the Audi Parking System advanced with rear view camera. Also included in the standard package from Al Nabooda Automobiles are rear side airbags, ISOFIX child seat preparation as well as a double floor in the cargo area complete with a storage compartment and a dirt tray. The 3.0 TFSI Supercharged additionally features the panoramic sunroof, the navigation system plus and Audi music interface as standard. The highlight on the Audi stand will be the new Audi A8 P.I. - set to be in the showrooms from mid April onwards. Bentley

Flying Spur B

entley establishes a new luxury performance sedan benchmark with the Flying Spur. With its unrivalled blend of effortless driveability, exquisite luxury and craftsmanship, sculpted design and state-of-theart technology, the new Flying Spur, Bentley’s most powerful four-door model, takes the worldwide success of its iconic predecessor further.

Bentley’s styling team has developed an athletic design for the new Flying Spur that combines traditional Bentley styling cues with a sporting stance and contemporary details. Sharp feature lines complement muscular rear haunches, while LED day-time running lights, dipped headlights and taillights characterise the front and rear profiles. The interior designers have created a luxurious, spacious cabin that dresses advanced acoustic and electronic technologies in exquisite hand-crafted leather hides and wood veneers. Driver and passengers alike interface with the car and the outside world through touch-screen infotainment, mobile connectivity including Wi-Fi, a Rear Seat Entertainment suite and a new handheld Touch Screen Remote which allows rear-cabin occupants to control an extensive range of features from the comfort of their seat. An eight-channel, eight-speaker audio system with Balanced Mode Radiators provide high quality sound clarity, with the 1100W Naim® for Bentley premium system available as an option. Powering the new Flying Spur is Bentley’s renowned 6.0-litre, twin turbo W12 engine, coupled to a ZF eight-speed transmission. Developing 625 PS (616 bhp) and 800 Nm of torque, the new Flying Spur features more power than any other Bentley four-door in history. A 14 per cent improvement in the power-to-weight ratio over the outgoing model delivers a breath-taking 0-60 mph time of 4.3 seconds and a top-speed of 200 mph (322 km/h). In the modern Bentley tradition, power is delivered to the road via allwheel drive with a 40:60 rear-biased torque split for a sure-footed, engaging drive in all road and weather conditions. Bentley Chairman and Chief Executive, Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, comments “Bentley’s new Flying Spur is the ultimate luxury performance sedan. Our engineers have worked tirelessly to ensure that the Flying Spur is the perfect combination of power, comfort, refinement and hand-crafted quality. Fitted with the very latest technology, the new Flying Spur is equipped both for business and relaxation whilst remaining a car to enjoy from behind the wheel.” A Sleek And Striking Exterior The styling of the new Flying Spur establishes a new design character for Bentley’s performance sedan. An elegant direction is reflected by a lower, wider appearance with sharp lines and gently curvaceous surfaces. A lower roof line, deeply sculpted panels, precise feature lines and a muscular rear haunch give the Flying Spur a more aggressive stance and a powerfully dynamic profile.

14

A Contemporary Cabin Of Hand-Crafted Materials The sumptuous interior of the new Flying Spur includes 600 new parts, with only the sun visors, grab handles, armrests and some of the front console and controls carried over from the previous generation. Class-leading entertainment and information technologies are married with traditional hand-crafted materials and stunning contemporary design to create the ultimate highluxury sedan cabin. Connection To The Outside World Complementing the hand-crafted interior, the Flying Spur is equipped with carefully selected state-of-the-art technology, for both the driver and passengers. Central infotainment is controlled through a high resolution 8 touch-screen interface, complete with Bentley’s advanced satellite navigation system and Bluetooth connectivity, while infotainment features can be controlled by voice activation.

Designed For Exceptional Comfort Achieving class-leading comfort and refinement was a priority during the development of the new Flying Spur and the acoustic isolation of the cabin from external noise inputs was a particular focus. Bentley’s development and use of lightweight acoustic underfloor panels to minimise road noise continues, with aerodynamically optimised insulating sections applied to almost the entire underfloor of the car. Side glazing and both front and rear screens are made in acoustic glass, featuring a specially developed interlayer that reduces noise transmission. An improved sealing system around the side glazing now features two individual sealing points to reduce wind noise to a minimum regardless of road speed. The redesigned doors are also fitted with additional insulation to the outer skin, reducing noise diffusion in to the cabin. Enlarged rear mufflers reduce exhaust noise by 12 dB at 3000 rev/min for enhanced passenger comfort.

15

Eight Gears, Six Litres And Four Driven Wheels As Bentley’s most powerful engine, the 6.0-litre, twin turbocharged, 48-valve W12 is the natural choice to power the fastest ever Bentley four-door. Now delivering 625 PS (616 bhp) at 6,000 rev/ min and a staggering 800 Nm (590 lb ft) of torque from only 2000 rev/min, the W12 has recently undergone a complete engine management system upgrade to the latest Bosch ME17 interface. Improved torque management, turbocharger control, driveability and emissions performance all result from the adoption and optimisation of the new system, with a resulting improvement in low speed responsiveness. A Refined Ride With Dynamic Delivery With outstanding ride comfort of vital importance, the independent computer-controlled air suspension of the new Flying Spur is redesigned to maximise impact absorption and isolation. Compared to the outgoing model, suspension spring rates are softened front and rear by 10 per cent and 13 per cent respectively, for improved ride comfort in the normal operating region. The rate of stiffness increase during harder cornering has been increased for improved control of heave, pitch and roll. Antiroll bars are softened by 13 per cent and 15 per cent to improve single wheel impact absorption. Suspension lever bushes allround are softened by at least 25 per cent for reduced road surface-induced noise and vibration.

16

The Personal Choices As with the entire Bentley range, the new Flying Spur is built to individual customers’ exacting specifications. A range of seventeen standard exterior paint colours includes Dark Cashmere, a sophisticated and contemporary addition to the Bentley palette. The extended paint range of over 100 colours is joined by Damson, a rich hue inspired by the extremely rare purple diamond, and one that is complemented by an optional matching hide colour. A new 19-inch Classic wheel is fitted exclusively to the new Flying Spur, either bright-painted or with a diamond turned finish. The new design consolidates a wider range of 20-inch five-spoke, 21inch six-spoke and 21-inch ten-spoke wheels available as cost options. Customers wishing to extend the range of available options further can choose to include the Mulliner Driving Specification. This includes five additional hides, expanding the number of available shades to 17, and five further wood veneers. Bentley’s traditional diamond quilting is incorporated to the seats and door panels, together with an indented leather headlining and embroidered Bentley wings to the headrests. Drilled alloy foot pedals, a knurled sports gear lever, jewel filler cap and 21” two-piece five-spoke alloy wheels in painted or polished finish complete the Mulliner suite of options.

Ferrari 458 Speciale & F12berlinetta T

wo Ferrari masterpieces from the Prancing Horse’s current range, the 458 Speciale and the F12berlinetta, will be showcased by Al Tayer Motors at the Motorvillage event. The cars will be on display at the Dubai International Financial Centre from March 30th – April 3rd. Ferrari 458 Speciale The new special edition from the Maranello company, like all cars produced by Ferrari, features a range of technical innovations which make this car unique and special, aimed at the most demanding sports-oriented owners, who are looking for maximum driving excitement. Patented by Ferrari and a world first, the innovations concern the car as a whole, in particular the power unit, the aerodynamics and the vehicle dynamics, which make the difference between it and the base model even more marked, when compared to past special editions such as the Challenge Stradale and the 430 Scuderia. On road or track, the driver of a 458 Speciale will feel part of the vehicle system, which ensures immediate response to all inputs and total control in even the most complex of manoeuvres. All drivers can therefore attain high performance levels, experiencing great excitement at the wheel of Ferrari’s highest performance 8 cylinder car. The most powerful naturally aspirated engine (605 cv) and the one with the highest specific power output (135 cv/l) in the history of road-going Ferrari V8s, an amazing power to weight ratio (2.13 Kg/cv,) aerodynamic efficiency (index E equivalent to 1.5,) and electronic control of its set-up angle (SSC:) these are some, but not all, of the characteristics that make this car really ‘Speciale’ and which are destined to set the standard for Ferraris of the future. Agile and responsive, the new rear-mid engined 8 cylinder sports car has been designed with the aim of raising performance and excitement to the maximum level, especially on a mix of race tracks and twisty roads, featuring tight hairpins and high speed corners with a variety of gradients, ensuring that is it very controllable, whatever the situation.

18

F12berlinetta The F12berlinetta adds the finishing flourish to an all-new range of 12- and 8-cylinder models that, in the space of just four years, have achieved the objective of offering different Ferraris for different Ferraristi. New models that match everincreasing power outputs with greater efficiency with the result that fuel consumption and emissions have been reduced by an impressive 30 per cent. A result achieved through indepth, 360-degree research into all vehicle systems – engine, aerodynamics, tyres, brakes and ancillaries. The F12berlinetta is the most powerful and high-performance road-going Ferrari ever. Sporting a new V12 engine, it is built around highly evolved transaxle architecture and features stateof-the-art components and control systems. The F12berlinetta’s aerodynamics have also been honed to the extreme in an innovative design that redefines classic Ferrari themes. The F12berlinetta’s wheelbase is shorter and its engine, dashboard and seats are lower in the chassis. A new suspension and gearbox layout helped reduce the car’s rear volume. The result is a shorter, lower and narrower car than the previous V12 coupé. The F12berlinetta boasts ideal weight distribution (54% over the rear axle) as well as a lower centre of gravity that is further back in the chassis. The F12berlinetta’s spaceframe chassis and bodyshell are completely new, and now incorporate no less than 12 different aluminium alloys, some of which have been used for the first time in the automotive sector. New assembly and joining technologies were also adopted in its construction. This has allowed the car’s overall weight to be kept to just 1525 kg and has maximised its performance efficiency with torsional rigidity boosted by 20 per cent.

19

The new, 200-bar direct-injection 6262cc 65° V12 engine delivers unprecedented performance for a naturally-aspirated 12-cylinder. It punches out a maximum of 740 CV at 8250 rpm, with a specific power output of 118 CV/l and maximum revs of 8700 rpm, record figures for this type of engine. Responsiveness and strong pick-up is guaranteed by maximum torque of 690 Nm, 80 per cent of which is readily available at 2500 rpm. Exceptional progress has also been made in terms of fuel consumption and emissions which have been cut by 30 per cent – putting the F12berlinetta at the top of the segment with 15/l 100 km and 350 g/km of CO2 respectively. Aerodynamics play a major role, and a host of innovative solutions have been discreetly integrated in the F12berlinetta’s styling. These include the Aero Bridge which, in a first, uses the bonnet to generate downforce, and Active Brake Cooling, a system that opens guide vanes to the brake cooling ducts only at high operating temperatures. The result of these interventions is that the F12berlinetta has the highest overall aerodynamic efficiency of any Ferrari ever built (a value of 1.2, double that of the 599 GTB Fiorano) with downforce of 123 kg at 200 km/h and a Cd of just 0.299. The fruit of the collaboration between the Ferrari Styling Centre and Pininfarina, the F12berlinetta features harmonious and balanced proportions. It is a truly original, innovative coupé with all of the signature features of an authentic Ferrari 12-cylinder. Clothed in sleek, aggressive lines, it offers superb interior space and comfort despite its relatively compact dimensions. The rear is characterised by a modern, functional reinterpretation of the Kamm tail which seamlessly integrates the two vertical fences of the rear diffuser. The resulting, original T-shape also incorporates two full-LED circular tail-lights and the clearly F1-inspired rear fog light. With a Fiorano lap time of just 1’23’’, 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.1 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 8.5 s, the F12berlinetta is the most high-performance road car in Ferrari history. Over and above sheer performance, however, it stands out for its nimble and responsive handling and unparalleled driving involvement even at lower speeds, a feature normally the reserve of mid-rear-engined cars, whether on the track or on the road. The car’s Frau leather interior is completely new. It highlights the balance of advanced technology – in the form of the Human-Machine Interface which places all controls within easy reach of the driver – and sophisticated, handcrafted detailing, both of which are intrinsic to Ferrari’s DNA. The cabin has been optimised to ensure maximum usability of the interior space with additional luggage capacity behind the seats, which can also be easily reached thanks to the large aperture offered by the tail-gate. On the dashboard are new, carbon-fibre and light alloy air-vents inspired by the aeronautical sector. There is also an optional passenger display for the passenger-side dash.

Arrives in the UAE The iconic British automotive manufacturer – Lotus Cars – marked its entry in to the UAE with the opening of a stunning showroom at Dubai Festival City’s automotive park.

T

he name Evora keeps the Lotus tradition of beginning model names with the letter ‘E.’ The name is derived from the words evolution, vogue and aura.

Like all Lotus’ before it, the Evora is a sports car that benefits from a unique approach to driving dynamics. The Evora has the ability to set itself apart from the competition providing a hand built quality fit, feel and finish in an everyday sports car. Its design and engineering technology ensure that the driver is fully immersed in a sensory experience, where exactly the right feedback is transmitted from the road to make even the most ordinary drive feel special. Lotus’ engineering and racing expertise has ensured the development of a sports car that lends itself to excellence on both road and track, as witnessed through its evolution. For exceptional handling, performance, exquisite poise and usability, the Lotus Evora delivers in every aspect. Performance Foundations The essence of the Evora is found in its exceptional engineering and focus on performance. Production combines high technology processes with hand finishing techniques, from chassis construction through to final assembly. Teams of specialists oversee every process ensuring Lotus’ high-quality engineering standards are met during every stage of the build; with completed

22

cars undergoing rigorous rolling road and water-ingress tests to ensure ultimate reliability and performance. The Evora chassis is composed of an extruded and bonded aluminum structure, developed for its lightweight yet incredibly stiff design. The front sub-frame carries the suspension, brakes, cooling and steering, while the central tub contains the driver’s cockpit and safety cell – a format closely reflecting the layout and construction of modern-day racing cars – with the rear subframe carrying the engine, transmission, and suspension, brakes and exhaust system. The Evora is renowned for its precise handling and excellent ride. This is due in part to the award winning, lightweight and stiff chassis design. So stiff that it takes 27,000 Nm to twist it just one degree. The chassis’ strength allows Lotus engineers to make the suspension more compliant, increasing comfort without compromising the ride and handling dynamics. This area of focus allows a driver the ability to switch from pulse raising feedback to serenity making the Evora the most unique sports car experience. Exciting on the Road Whatever the circumstances – sweeping curve, tight hairpin or flat-out straight - the Evora is always ‘on it’. A low-drag, elegant fastback design combine with fluid lines, a swept-forward cabin and aggressive poise, giving subtle cues to its sporting attitude.

23

Boosting the Evora’s performance arsenal, its Dynamic Performance Management (DPM) traction and stability management system has three settings; suppressing oversteer and understeer in the ‘on’ setting, allowing a small degree of slip in ‘Sport’ to allow the driver greater engagement, and disengaging altogether in ‘off’ when you want to test your reflexes. Intelligence in the city Transitioning from open-road to urban jungle, the Evora is not fazed. Its compliant suspension makes light work of rough surfaces and bumps. With a commanding on-road presence, the Evora occupies the road with sporting appeal and a lack of pomposity; it dispels the hostility that many other supercars arouse.

The Evora has two variations, the naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 which produces 276 brake horse power and the supercharged version that generates 345BHP. The Evora is available in both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed IPS (Intelligent Precision Shift) transmission. Showroom In the UAE, Trading Enterprises, part of Al-Futtaim Automotive Group, are exclusive retailers and will initially sell the Lotus Evora and its supercharged sibling the Evora S from its 425sqm flagship state-of-the-art showroom at Dubai Festival City.

On the urban grind there is plenty to entertain you including direct inputs for iPod®, iPhone® and MP3 devices plus a music and video App via the built-in Satnav system. Eco Drive allows you to evaluate performance, including acceleration and braking, as well as emissions.

Trading Enterprises has given as much attention to their Lotus Service Care program as the experience of buying such an iconic sports car. Lotus consultants will remain as your first point of contact throughout the ownership experience, giving complete confidence to own a Lotus.

In fluctuating traffic conditions the ‘IPS’ (Intelligent Precision Shift) automatic version with paddle shift control provides a more relaxed driving mode thanks to its flowing power delivery.

The new showroom is open Saturday to Thursday 9am to 8pm. For more information, customers can call 800 5823, visit www.lotuscars.ae or follow Lotus on facebook: facebook.com/LotusCarsUAE.

Maserati’s Quattroporte & Ghibli

M

aserati, the legendary Italian automobile manufacturer which is celebrating its centennial this year, is among the few brands that makes heads turn all over the world with its exquisitely designed cars that inspire open-jawed admiration.

its models Quattroporte GTS and Quattroporte S in the Middle East region. The sixth-generation model deliver a leap forward that not only sets the high-technology tone for Maserati’s upcoming new-model onslaught, but also remains faithful to Maserati’s long history.

In addition to the successful GranTurismo and GranCabrio ranges, the latest generation of Maserati’s flagship sedan, the Quattroporte, and the new sports executive sedan, the Ghibli, provide the cornerstones to the brand’s strategy of producing some 50,000 units annually by 2015 and gaining a significantly strengthened presence in the global luxury car market.

The flagship of the Maserati product range is larger, lighter, more luxurious and more practical than the globally acclaimed car it replaces.

Both of the recently launched models have generated tremendous interest among automotive enthusiasts with their distinctive Italian design, luxurious interiors, unrivalled road presence and that uniquely glorious sound, which is so typical for Maserati. Continue to read further for more details or visit the Maserati showrooms to arrange a test drive. Maserati Quattroporte With the original Quattroporte in 1963, Maserati invented the concept of the luxury sports sedan and the new Quattroporte continues to be the benchmark for high quality engineering, supercar performance and limousine comfort. In 2013 Maserati launched the all-new Maserati Quattroporte with

26

The powerful engine and the large cabin are at the core of the Quattroporte’s design, dominated by a long, powerful nose and a concave Trident grille and providing a clear link to both the outgoing Quattroporte and the GranTurismo. Even with all of its new technology, the new Quattroporte remains true to Maserati’s roots. The Quattroporte GTS and the Quattroporte S are powered by state-of-the-art high performance engines. The direct-injection engine family will boast a 3.8-litre V8 (Quattroporte GTS) and a 3.0-litre V6 (Quattroporte S), both of which are all new, twin turbo charged, developed by Maserati Powertrain in partnership with Ferrari Powertrain and built by Ferrari in its world-leading engine construction facility in Maranello. The Quattroporte GTS engine provides Maserati’s new performance benchmark, reaching 100km/h in just 4.7 seconds and achieving a 307km/h top speed. It is 20km/h faster and has

up to 200 Nm more torque than its predecessor Quattroporte Sport GT S. The Quattroporte S engine doesn’t lack for performance, either, reaching 100km/h in 5.1 seconds and achieving a 285km/h top speed. Both, the Quattroporte GTS and the Quattroporte S have a rear-wheel drive configuration. The GTS model is not only the fastest but also the most powerful and the most economical four-door Maserati which was ever built. To offset its scintillating performance, the Quattroporte GTS has lowered both its fuel consumption and emissions by 20 per cent over the outgoing Quattroporte. The all-new architecture retains the Quattroporte’s traditionally exquisite handling characteristic thanks to its 50:50 weight distribution, a double-wishbone front suspension, the state-of-the-art five-link rear suspension, the limited rear slip differential and the Maserati Skyhook suspension system. It also delivers new standards in quality in every area from design, development, fabrication and process controls. It is produced in a new plant that combines Maserati’s traditions of craftsmanship with cutting-edge technologies that are able to guarantee outstanding quality by controlling even the tiniest details. Traditional hand crafted detailing continues in the Quattroporte’s cabin, and this has been added to with even more interior space in all seats and both four- and five-seat layouts. Cabin luxury leaps forward technically, too, with features like the Maserati Touch Control screen, adjustable pedals, Reversing Camera and the optional 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, as well as WLAN-based WiFi.

27

Maserati Ghibli The all-new Maserati Ghibli enters the E-segment by combining breath-taking design with exceptional handling qualities and outstanding performance. Making inspirational motoring more accessible, Maserati’s new 4-door sports executive sedan, appeals to the heart, the head and the soul. The launch marks a turning point in Maserati’s history giving the Italian marque two concurrent four-door sedan models for the first time in its 100-year history. It is the second model after the flagship, the Quattroporte, to be manufactured to new benchmark quality standards in Maserati’s new state-of-the-art production facilities in Grugliasco close to Turin. Both versions of the petrol range, Ghibli and Ghibli S, feature a new-generation twin turbo-charged 3.0-litre V6 engine and an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. With its power output of 410 hp the Ghibli S races to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds and reaches a top speed of 285 km/h. The Ghibli delivers 330 hp, a top speed of 263 km/h and acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. The new Ghibli shares parts of its core architecture, its chassis, its suspension architecture, the V6 engine and the ZF 8-speed automatic transmission with the flagship limousine Quattroporte. It is, however, 173 mm shorter in the wheel base and 291 mm shorter overall, as well as 50 kg lighter. Dynamic and precise handling is guaranteed by the car’s perfectly balanced 50:50 weight distribution while the sophisticated suspension system and limited slip differential make every ride even more enjoyable. Achieving five stars on the Euro NCAP crash test, the Ghibli provides peace of mind for all occupants. While the Ghibli features all classic Maserati design traits, its exterior emphasizes its determined personality. The outline of the body reflects a coupé-like philosophy for the four-door sedan,

28

while there are noticeable feline hints around the Ghibli’s grille and headlights. The pronounced grille draws a line back to the iconic A6 GCS of the 1950s. The shape of the headlights converges onto the Trident symbol, with every angle designed to attract the eye to Maserati’s legendary marque. The distinctive C-pillar delivers much of the Ghibli’s coupé-like stance and hosts the classical Saetta Maserati logo, carrying on a tradition dating back to 1963. The side profile is dominated by a swage line that runs from the three unmistakable Maserati air vents behind the front wheels and finishes in the rear lights themselves. With its long wheelbase, a total length of 4.97m and wide tracks, the Ghibli demonstrates a perfect blend of sportiness and elegance that is second to none in its class. The Ghibli enters the E-segment of the sports premium market with a tangible advantage in cabin craftsmanship and detailing. It also sets itself apart with a unique, cockpit-inspired dashboard design that perfectly matches its sporty and youthful character without compromising on the highest level of refinement and sophistication. Key elements such as the 8.4” Maserati Touch Control and the fine Poltrona Frau® leather finish underline the cabin’s timeless sporting character. Optional features include the 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins high end audio system, WLAN based WiFi and a wide range of customization options that cater for the most demanding individuals. Both cars are available through the official UAE importer Al Tayer Motors and Abu Dhabi and Al Ain dealer Premier Motors. The cars are available inclusive of a three years or 60,000km full service package, and three years warranty with unlimited mileage plan, which makes the dream of owning these automotive masterpieces an affordable reality. Test drives can be booked through the Maserati showrooms on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai and Khalidiya in Abu Dhabi.

Hand-built in Detroit, it features new interior and exterior designs incorporating premium materials and new exterior surfaces with aerodynamically functional details that are beautifully integrated into the high-tech carbon fibre and aluminum skin. On the inside, designers and engineers rethought all its touch points and upgraded its material appointments and technologies. The SRT Viper GTS builds on the DNA of the SRT Viper model with more technologically advanced solutions, like its driver-selectable two-mode suspension system that allows it to find new limits on the track while also opening up its envelope as a more mature evolution of the classic, extreme performance formula. Designed and built with premium features and materials inside and out, the Viper GTS will compete with the best performance vehicles in the

world - and do so with a wide range of creature comforts, advanced drivetrain and interior technologies. The heart and soul of the SRT Viper GTS is its handcrafted, allaluminium 8.4-litre, mid-front V10 overhead-valve engine. A wide range of improvements have shaven 25 pounds (11.34 kgs) from the fully dressed engine, which generates 640 hp and 600 lb.-ft. of torque - the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports-car engine in the world. The Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission features closer gear ratios, a shortened final drive ratio and shorter shifter throw, meaning it’s more engaging to drive. The top speed of 331 kmh is achieved through 6th gear with maximum engine speed (redline) at 6,200 rpm. The chassis benefits from numerous enhancements, many of which result from racing efforts with Viper GTS-R and Competition Coupe models, starting with a stiffer structure that provides 50% more torsional rigidity. Major upgrades include the addition of a new aluminium x-brace under the hood that ties the suspension pickup points to the magnesium cowl super casting. Many components are reworked to take advantage of new materials able to accommodate reduced thickness and complex shapes without compromising structural rigidity, resulting in an overall weight saving of approximately 100 pounds (45 kgs).

Brake performance provides shorter stopping distances, better modulation, improved durability and balanced brake performance without fading under extreme conditions - four-piston Brembo brakes with fixed-aluminium calipers and vented rotors boast a diameter of 355 mm by 32 mm. The all-new, driver-oriented interior cabin has been totally revamped - all major interior surfaces are sewn and wrapped with additional padding and surfaces are fully leather-skinned. Standard high-performance Sabelt racing seats feature a lightweight kevlar/ fibreglass shell and deliver improved comfort with thigh support and deep side-bolsters. The SRT Viper GTS is the most spacious model in Viper history - the floor pan and bulkhead have been extended approximately 90 mm to provide improved legroom and more rearward seat track movement. A 7-inch (177.8 mm), full-colour, customisable TFT instrument cluster with full-time analog tachometer specifically designed for the SRT Viper GTS - provides unmatched presentation of the exclusive SRT Performance Pages’ statistics to the driver, including 0-to-100 kmh; 0-to-161 kmh; eighth- and quarter-mile elapsed times; braking distance; instant g-force measurement readouts and top-speed performance. The 8.4-inch (213.36 mm) Uconnect® Media Centre doubles as a display for SRT Performance Pages content and balances the convenience of a touchscreen with the reassurance of tactile knobs for functions such as radio tuning and volume. Touchscreen buttons along the bottom of the screen enable easy access to the radio, climate controls, navigation and phone. The steering wheel features finger-tip mounted controls for audio, Uconnect features and launch control. A Harman Kardon surround-sound system offers the very latest

in audio technology, with a total of 18 speakers, including four subwoofers located behind the seats. Dual-function, bi-xenon projector headlamps are packaged with white light-emitting diode (LED) daytime running lamps and LED turn signals in a sinister “snake eye” configuration. For the first time, tail lamps with 50 LEDs integrate stop-and-turn illumination. Split six-spoke forged-aluminium “Venom” wheels are available in three finishes; polished face with graphite-painted pockets (standard), fully painted Hyper Black or fully painted Matte Black. Eight exterior colours are offered - Adrenaline Red, Venom Black, Bright White, Gunmetal Pearl, Race Yellow, Shadow Blue Pearl, Stryker Red Tri-Coat Pearl and GTS Blue.
