It’s been a month of exciting meetings here at Mollie HQ, and it’s always a pleasure collaborating with Queen Pin, Zoe Pearson (pictured above, left), Pinterest’s UK Community Manager. The eagle-eyed amongst you will know Zoe from early editions of Mollie Makes, when she wrote crafty travel features and city guides for us. Look where she is now! Read all about her career journey, and what it’s like to pin for a living on page 32. I can reveal a little of our chats, too: we’re joining forces with Pinterest for the Mollie Makes Handmade Awards 2015. You’ll find full details of how to enter in our next issue, on sale April 7. Till then, have an ace Easter and enjoy our seasonal makes (and share them via #molliemakers)!

Describe your style in a few words. Happy, quirky, colourful.

tea and a chat with…

ZOE PEARSON Community manager for Pinterest by day, crafter, blogger and interiors nut by night – Zoe is living the creative dream Words: HANNAH BULLIVANT Photographs: KRISTY NOBLE

Online pinboard website Pinterest is the creative girl’s best friend. The No.1 culprit for lost hours spent fantasising about our dream kitchens, holiday wishlists and perfect wardrobes, it’s escapism at its most visually appealing. It’s also a beloved source of inspiration for craft projects, with millions of boards covering every technique and style you could possibly imagine. Zoe Pearson works there as its community marketing manager – a dream job in anyone’s books. Zoe’s background in all things social media, 32 MOLLIEMAKES.COM 51

her skills as a general web content queen, and her stint at powerhouse Google (the job which necessitated an Edinburgh-London relocation) meant she was the perfect contender for the role. Here, she gets to work with dreamy brands and ace bloggers, run some very cool events and, of course, pin to her heart’s content. Zoe never switches her creative brain off – her spare time is spent exploring London’s markets, eateries and boozers; seeking out street art, or spending time at her colourful, happy home.

Which books and magazines are currently on your bedside table? 36 Hours in Europe, a huge tome of a book that’s making me want to take long weekends everywhere. A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman, which I’ve just read for the bloggers’ book club I run with Amy from Daisy Fay, and am re-reading as it was so good. I’ve also got Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham and a book called Salt, Sugar, Fat which I’m obsessed with. Name your top three creative blogs. Right now, I’m loving Fall For DIY (www. fallfordiy.com), Charlotte Lovey’s blog and Instagram pictures brighten up my feed every day (www.charlottelovey.blogspot. co.uk), and one of my long-term favourties is Planet Fur (www.planetfur.nl). How on Earth did you score your job at Pinterest? I had a similar-ish job at Google and wasn’t on the hunt for a new one but, by chance, Pinterest dropped me a line about the role one Friday. I spent the whole of the following weekend thinking ‘Ooooh, Pinterest’ and by Monday I knew that I had to ask more about the job. I’d never even imagined working for Pinterest,

INTRODUCING tea & a chat

‘Everyone at Pinterest is really quite brilliant and interesting.’

let alone dreamed of it, but here I am! I regularly get a ‘pinch me, I think I’m dreaming’ feeling, then look around, and think ‘oh this is real!’ The people here are really quite brilliant and interesting. With Pinterest, it’s all about your interests, your hobbies and your plans, and everyone who works here has them by the bucket load. We work really hard but we really do have fun at the same time. When you’re passionate and excited about what you do, it’s hard not to enjoy it all – even the late nights and the long hours.

What does a typical working day look like for you? Is working at Pinterest as fun as it sounds? The joy of Pinterest is that there’s no typical day. I could be doing any of the following: writing Pinterest editorials, meeting lovely bloggers, organising a themed event, looking at the trends on Pinterest, speaking to a journalist, working with editors and publishers, presenting at a conference, and so much more. It keeps me busy, but it is really fun and I always manage to squeeze in some pinning, too!

Painted bed legs

photograph: AMELIE NELLO

Pretty up your bargainous Ikea furniture with this easy trick. Source some natural wood screw-in legs (universal ones are readily available online) and, once you’ve decided on a design, tape off the areas you wish to remain plain using masking tape. Using paint suitable for wood, apply two layers of each colour using a thin brush to avoid leakage then, once dry, varnish the entire leg to protect it. Ideal for a sneaky pop of colour that’ll take guests by surprise. www.morningbyfoley.com
