Molly Chmiel Kate Schaefer Visual Merchandising I 19 April 2018 Project 3 Dior’s Spring 2018 collection featured looks that promoted women’s rights which inspired me to create a window display promoting women’s rights. The focal point of my window display is the oversized magenta Lady Dior bag in the center. I felt like the Lady Dior bag was fitting with the overall display because the name is centralized around women. The central idea of girl power is centered in the display on the bag. This bag will be constructed of paper and sent to the store which will save money instead of having a real leather bag. Two pink bust forms stand to the left of the bag. The pink color goes together well with the overall theme of girl power. The bust forms are dressed in striped pieces from the spring 2018 collection. One piece is a shirt that says “why have there been no great women artists?” and another is a dress that has a woman on the front. The shirt overall inspired me to centralize this window around feminism. Because these two pieces are related to women, they fit with the window theme well. In the background, the Dior logo is displayed in purple neon lights. In past window displays, Dior has used neon lights which is why I chose to include them in my display. The color of the lettering also goes well with the overall theme of the window since purple is usually a color associated with girls. I decided to paint the back wall white because lots of color has already been used in the window and I thought
everything would pop against the white background. The organization I decided to create awareness for is The Feminist Majority Foundation. This foundation’s goal is to “advance non-violence and women's power, equality, and economic development”. This foundation matches with the theme well because it is centralized around women empowerment and so is the window. I decided to raise awareness for this organization by donating 20% of the profits from the Lady Dior bag to that foundation. This will be stuck onto the window as a sticker decal and is stuck to the right of the bag so it is not covering the mannequins. Donating the profits of the Lady Dior bag is yet another reason why I decided to display the bag so largely.
