Harvey Littleton ● American glass artist ● Born in 1922 in Corning, New York ● Father worked at Corning Glass Works ○ Surrounded by glass work throughout his life ● Studied Industrial Design at University of Michigan ○ Proposed for glass studio to open at Corning. His proposal got shut down, so he took a break from glass ● 1951: Later received MFA in Ceramics at Cranbrook Academy of Fine Arts
Harvey Littleton Cont. ● 1947: After he received his MFA, he taught at the University of Madison Wisconsin ● 1957: Left to travel the world and study more art ○ Reintroduced to glass work in Europe ● Came back to America ○ Opened an American glass studio in Toledo MOA ○ The American Glass Studio Movement began ● 1960’s: Created many glass sculptures including vessels, spheres and tubes
