A note from the

T E A M

Leadership is not about titles, positions or flow charts. It's about one life influencing another. CONGRATULATIONS ON A SUCCESSFUL MOVE-IN DAY & ORIENTATION! To say that you've all hit the ground running would be the understatement of the year. Not only did you rise to the challenge of two weeks of training, but you have welcomed your students with smiles and warmth like true champions. It's been wonderful to see campus come alive again with the sounds of our students beginning to find their place within our buildings and on our campus. As leaders you have each stepped into the role of Don, RF, HP or ResSoc Executive and while these positions are important, what's more important is to remember that we're all here to make connections, to lead by example and to learn from one another and from our residents. On behalf of Kate, Nicky and Becky, we hope you have a great weekend before classes start where you'll hopefully be able to recharge and get ready to wear the hat of student and leader. Sparkle on! Molly

StAR Logs

The StAR program is a go again this year! This is our opportunity to positively recognize residents who are doing great things. If someone goes above and beyond for the community, please fill out a log and send it to your RLC. They will send a letter of recognition to the resident and the name will be forwarded on to the VPJA for additional follow up. This is a great chance to help build strong communities where our students feel a sense of belonging. These letters do mean something! Last year there were students who brought their StAR logs to conduct meetings and others who referenced them when applying for jobs. Residents were recognized last year for a range of things – including thaking the lead with floor programming, being a positive role model in the community, and helping out with friends on the floor who have consumed too much alcohol. Use your powers of documentation for good! Conduct Corner is a reoccurring feature. Please send your comments and questions to nicky.renault@queensu.ca This is your space to get some of the answers and clarifications you might need.
