Il 2011 sarà l’anno in cui la (Eco)Sostenibilità del Tessile avrà un’accelerazione notevole dovuta al fatto che alcuni grandi Produttori e retailer hanno espresso la volontà di attuarla sia nei contesti aziendali che nell’outsourcing.

La sostenibilità del tessile sarà anche il focus di importanti fiere che si terranno nel 2011.

Texworld a New York e Parigi, InNaTex - International Fair of Natural and Organic Textiles - e Interstoff Asia Essential a Francoforte in Germania, con vaste aree dedicate a prodotti certificati. Rite Conference in seguito al grande successo di quest’anno, il quarto in quello che è già diventato un evento da non perdere, ha annunciato che la data della prossima conferenza sarà Mercoledì 12 Ottobre 2011. Within a new and stimulating development, this year Rite Conference will welcome the Ethical Fashion Forum and the show Ethical Fashion Source. The two events, which are separated, will be both held on Wednesday 6th October 2011 at the Central Hall, Westminster, in London where environmental sustainability and ethic fashion will be in the spotlight. WHAT A COMPANY MUST DO TO BE SUSTAINABLE

COSA FA UN’AZIENDA PER ESSERE SOSTENIBILE

Il tessile è caratterizzato dalla parola Filiera, che riconduce al protagonista di buona parte del Tessile, il Filo. La Filiera è il percorso ottimale che parte dalla materia prima e conduce al prodotto finito; l’analisi di ogni passo della Filiera è l’attività primaria per capire quanto sia eco-sostenibile il progetto espresso all’inizio del percorso. In questa sede vengono proposti case-history di tipo industriale, senza alcuna preclusione verso realtà Eco-sostenibili artigianali ben presenti e sempre più consolidate sul mercato.

Quando si parla di industria nell’ambito del Tessile Sostenibile, ci si accanisce su principi che le altre realtà industriali, l’Automobile, gli Elettrodomestici, l’industria immobiliare, anch’essa ha case nuove classificate + o - ecologiche, hanno by-passato disinvoltamente attirando il consumatore sull’eccellenza del progresso tecnologico che permette di dire: “...questo prodotto fa molto per l’ambiente...”, messaggio suffragato dal brand e dalla pubblicità. Il Tessile non può farlo, il Tessile deve essere puro, perfetto in tutte le fasi della Filiera, salvo affermare che, solo il tessile di tipo “ Naturale” può fregiarsi del titolo di Sostenibile.

The textile world is characterized by the word Chain, which leads to the protagonist of a good part of Textiles, the Yarn. The Chain is the optimal path that part of the raw materials – systematically – brings to the finished product; the study of every step of the Chain is the main activity in order to understand how the project expressed at the beginning of the path can be defined eco-sustainable. During this session, the corporate case histories are proposed without any exception for craft Eco-sustainable realities, which are present and increasingly well-established on the market.

When we talk about industry within Sustainable Textiles, we persist with principles that have been naturally bypassed by the other industrial sectors such as the Automotive, the Household Appliances, the real estate industry – this also includes new classified houses, more or less ecologic ones. All this has attracted Consumers’ attention towards the excellence of technological progress which enables to state: “... this product is eco-friendly...”, a message supported by brand and advertising. The Textile world cannot behave this way; it shall be genuine, perfect over all the phases of the Chain, except for declaring that only the “Natural” textiles can be titled Sustainable.

The textile sector is an important industrial field and for many Countries, including Italy, it is a strategic and impact sector on the territory and in the social work.

CASE HISTORY RADICIGROUP Per la nostra simulazione abbiamo scelto il Gruppo Radici, già presente in una sintesi “Sostenibilità 3” dello scorso settembre, che autonomamente, senza pressioni legislative o di richiesta pressante del mercato, ha iniziato un percorso di Sostenibilità del prodotto tessile, il Gruppo ha pubblicato sul web, Il Bilancio di Sostenibilità 2009***. Il Bilancio è illustrato con garbo, eccellente, ricco d’informazioni di progetti, fatti concreti, certificazioni. Il Bilancio di Sostenibilità si è dimostrato prezioso per la valutazione di Sostenibilità dell’Azienda.

Difficilmente l’analisi della Filiera può partire dalla sintesi dei componenti ed arrivare al filo, in questo caso è possibile poiché la Chimica è sovrana nell’Azienda, la Chimica, poco conosciuta dal grande pubblico è spesso denigrata da “ecoguru” incattiviti, essa in realtà è alla base della trasformazione della materia ed ha un’estetica tutta sua come la fisica o la matematica. La chimica ha stabilito a livello europeo un sistema di controllo sulle materie prime, il Reach, di cui Radici fa parte, nell’ambito del Gruppo Radici Yarns produce il filo. www.radicigroup.com/it/home/home.aspx

CASE HISTORY RADICIGROUP Radici Group has been chosen to carry out our simulation.

This Group has already been mentioned in a summary of Sustainability 3, dating back to last September: independently and without any legislative pressure nor urgent requests from the market, it has started a Sustainability course of textile products.

The Group has published The Report on Sustainability 2009 *** on the Web. The Report is explained gently, it is excellent, full of information about projects, real facts and certifications. The Report on Sustainability has proven to be precious for the Corporate Sustainability evaluation. The Chain analysis is unlikely to start from the summary of components and to get to the yarn, in this case it is possible as Chemistry reigns in the Company. Chemistry, not very well-known by the public, is often denigrated by nasty “eco gurus”; actually, it is at the basis of the matter transformation and it has its own aesthetics, like physics or mathematics. Il percorso sopra indicato è illustrato nel grafico denominato Re-Ciclo Virtuoso in cui tutte le fasi della produzione e distribuzione si riconducono alla Sostenibilità. Applichiamo ora i Key point di auto-certificazione sopra descritti: VISIONE E’ espressa chiaramente nel Bilancio di Sostenibilità di RadiciGroup, strategia e attuazione sono bene illustrati, diremo che avere un Bilancio di Sostenibilità chiaro e visibile è il miglior punto di partenza possibile Inoltre nell’ottobre 2009 è stato ufficializzato il Progetto RadiciGroup per la Sostenibilità, la partecipazione al programma Responsible Care che accomuna il 50% delle aziende Chimiche Italiane, l’appartenenza al Reach completa lo scenario.

PRODUCTION PLACES The Report On Sustainability contains all the information regarding the production Place of the nylon yarn; it has obtained the IQNET Certification regarding the Environmental Management System ISO 14001: 2004 in annex.

LUOGHI DI PRODUZIONE Percorrendo il Bilancio di Sostenibilità si trovano tutte le informazioni, per quel che riguarda il Luogo di produzione del filo di nylon ha ottenuto la Certificazione di IQNET riguardante l’Enviromental Management System ISO 14001: 2004 in allegato.

Valutazione A RICERCA DELLA MATERIA PRIMA L’adesione di RadiciGroup al Reach comporta il controllo della materia prima, necessaria ai processi di sintesi che sono realizzati in Azienda e, garantisce la qualità del prodotto e la sua sicurezza. La ricerca di fonti alternative ha portato in azienda granuli di Pet, ottenuti dal riciclo da cui si ottiene filato di poliestere. Tramite aziende consociate Radici Yarns produce anche filati derivati da prodotti Bio based, nello specifico olio di ricino.

L’Azienda produce non solo con materie prime tradizionali controllate ma va alla ricerca di fonti alternative .

VISION It is clearly expressed in the Report on Sustainability by RadiciGroup, strategy and implementation are well described.

We may say that a clear and visible Report on Sustainability is the best starting point.

Moreover, in October 2009 the Project RadiciGroup for Sustainability was made official, the participation in the Responsible Care program, shared by 50% of Italian Chemical Industries, the belonging to the Reach tops it all.

RESEARCH FOR RAW MATERIALS RadiciGroup adhesion to the Reach implies the control of raw materials, necessary to the synthesis processes carried out within the Company and it grants the quality of the product as well as its safety. On the lookout for alternative sources the Company has introduced Pet grains, they are obtained from recycling, giving life to polyester yarn. Through subsidiaries companies, Radici Yarns also produces yarns derived from Bio-based products, more specifically castor oil. The Company not only avails itself of traditional controlled raw materials, but it also looks for alternative sources.

YARN The production of YARN is included in the project “Radici Yarns for Sustainability”, particularly Radelast * S Rb spandex is produced in black colour, thus starting with an advantage for the following finishing treatments. The production of polyamide 66 is being analysed by a survey on the life cycle from raw materials (cradle) to the gate (grain production), commissioned to an external company, with a view to obtaining all the information for future changes of production techniques.

The Revive Yarn is obtained from Pet, a recycled material derived from plastic bottles; the resulting product presents the same quality levels of that obtained with traditional techniques; the Revive yarns are also mass-dyed, thus contributing to decrease the environmental impact in the following finishing phases. The Greenfil* yarn is an ecosustainable yarn derived from castor oil, it comes out from a triple venture of the Group to the research for alternative sources.

All yarns have the Oeco Tex Standard 100 certification to guarantee the absence of toxic products.

FILATO La produzione del filato è inserita nel progetto “Radici Yarns for Sustainability”, in particolare lo spandex Radelast * S Rb è prodotto in nero partendo avvantaggiato nei successivi trattamenti di nobilitazione. La produzione di poliammide 66 è oggetto di uno studio di ciclo di vita dalla materia prima (culla) al cancello ( produzione del granulo), commissionato ad una società esterna, nell’ottica di ottenere tutte le informazioni per futuri cambiamenti delle tecniche produttive.

Il Filato Revive si ottiene dal Pet, materiale di recupero delle bottiglie di plastica, il prodotto che si ottiene ha una qualità pari a quello ottenuto tradizionalemente, i filati Revive sono anche tinti in massa contribuendo ad un minore impatto ambientale nelle fasi successive di nobilitazione.

Il filato Greenfil*, un filo eco-sostenibile che si origina dall’olio di ricino, nasce da una tripla venture del Gruppo alla ricerca di fonti alternative.

I filati hanno tutti la certificazione Oeco Tex Standard 100, che garantisce l’assenza di prodotti nocivi alla salute.

CONCLUSIONE

Abbiamo cercato di esemplificare quanto deve fare un’Azienda Tessile per potersi nominare Sostenibile, abbiamo indicato i concetti ed i parametri che presiedono alla valutazione di Sostenibilità di un’Azienda, abbiamo sperimentato sommariamente un’auto-certificazione, scegliendo un’Azienda già avanzata nella realizzazione della Sostenibilità, che abbiamo valutato di classe A. In realtà non esiste una Super- etichetta che esprime una classe di merito, è auspicabile che questo avvenga senza sovrapporsi agli istituti governativi, istituzionali e privati, che professionalmente certificano le varie realtà. Oggi la certificazione è parcellizzata, la nostra idea è di potere riassumere in un attestato, o Super- etichetta, il valore di quanto ha fatto un’azienda per la Sostenibilità, sarà il Consumatore a decidere se comprare una t-shirt “Sostenibilità Classe A/B/C“ o semplicemente una t-shirt.

We have tried to illustrate what a Textile Company shall do to be declared Sustainable, we have explained the concepts and the parameters at the head of the Evaluation of Sustainability of a Company, we have perfunctorily experimented a selfcertification by choosing a Company already initiated into the implementation of Sustainability – which we have evaluated to be a class A. Actually, there is no Super-Label to indicate a category; it would be desirable that this may happen without being overlap to the governmental, institutional and private institutes that professionally certify the different realities. Today, certification has been apportioned, our goal is to be able to reassume the value of what a Company has made for Sustainability in a certificate, or Super-label. It will be up to Consumers to decide whether to buy a “Sustainability Class A/B/C” t-shirt or, simply, a t-shirt.
