¡Viva Mexico!’ (‘Long Live Mexico’). Mexico is a great place to explore and experience a culture that reflects the complexity of the country’s past through the fusion of pre-Hispanic civilizations and Spanish culture during Spain’s 300-year colonization of Mexico.

SAFETY It is statistically quite safe. According to NationMaster.com which uses U.N.-based data, Mexico doesn’t even make the list of the 36 nations with the highest murder rates. Mild-mannered nations like Sweden and Switzerland top Mexico for murders on NationMaster.com. The assault rate in the U.S. is nearly 5 times greater than that of Mexico in the independent Prominix report adjusted for under-reported crime.

¡VIVA MÉXICO!

NATURE Mexico is one of the World’s Top 5 most bio-diverse nations on Earth. More than 30,000 plant species; 1,000 bird species; and 1,500 mammal, reptile, and amphibian species are native to Mexico. Did you know that Mexico has more UNESCO World Heritage Sites than any other country in the Americas (including the US)?

CURRENCY AND EXCHANGE The currency exchange rounds between 12 and 13 mexican pesos per dollar.

TRANSPORTATION IN MEXICO Mexico City is remarkably easy to get around. Wherever you need to go, there is likely some conveyance heading there momentarily. A swift, extensive and incredibly cheap subway system covers most of the metropolis with frequent service almost round the clock. Above ground, peseros (small buses, also called microbuses or micros), regular buses and electric-powered trolley buses move the city’s masses from points A to Z. The metrobus, a recent addition, plies its own lane along the city’s principal north–south artery, Av Insurgentes. Taxis are plentiful and reasonably priced, whether you’re hailing one off the street or (more securely) phoning one of the radio-taxi services. Mexico City is the leading destination for international airlines, although many offer direct flights to tourist destinations such as Cancun, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Manzanillo, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán, Los Cabos and Monterrey. Main airlines: Viva Aerobus https://www.vivaaerobus.com Volaris http://volaris.com/en/ Aeromexico http://www.aeromexico.com/mx/welcome.html

You can find a good exchange rate at the airports. Before traveling, we suggest that you check the new regulation restricting the liquids, sprays and gels allowed in carry-on luggage. Take only authorized taxis, these are safer. Please note that for international travel you must check-in three hours before the flight; for domestic flights, two hours are required. Main airports: Benito Juarez from Mexico City General Abelardo from Tijuana General Mariano Escobedo from Monterrey Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla from Guadalajara International Airport from Bajio Leon
