Idom was established in 1957 as a result of the effort and integrative work by the engineer Rafael Escolá (Barcelona 1919 - Bilbao 1995). upported by a young engineer, Luis Olaortúa (1932-2003), Rafael Escolá made Idom an Association of professionals in which persons cooperate with one another, joined by the work and ownership of the Firm, seeking professional and human development, as well as the finest service for Clients.

Rafael and Luis were also pioneers in providing professional independent engineering services during a period in which engineers worked, for the most part, as employees of large industrial companies.

As a result of the evolution of the market and the new needs of clients, Idom began a path of permanent growth, in services as well as persons.

This has led to a leading multidisciplinary Group in which over 2,500 people conduct their professional activity, distributed in 32 offices, located in fourteen countries on four continents.

New principal office of the IDOM Group in Bilbao, Spain Project

The new principal office of the Idom Group is located in a former bonded warehouse (a customs port warehouse) in Deusto canal in the Port of Bilbao, Spain. It has an area of 14,400 m2 for offices, research and development areas such as a clean room, a prototype workshop and social areas.

To continue the concept of integration, in some offices the track has been recessed in the ceiling and in others it remains visible, according to the construction needs, with a special black anodized aluminium finish that gives continuity to the dark ceiling. The 2-doors system opens all of the panels synchronously by simply activating the leading door, sliding along the length of a fixed glass panel set in the same extrusion as the mobile panels.
