Connie Han Trio
WED–SAT, FEB 24–27 | 7:30PM Vanderhoef Studio Theatre
—NPR on Connie Han
Weaving in and out of the jazz piano tradition, Connie Han pays tribute to legends like McCoy Tyner, Mulgrew Miller and Kenny Kirkland with her own unique edge at the piano. The New York Times describes her as “the rare musician with fearsome technical chops, a breadth of historical knowledge and enough originality to write tunes that absorb your ear easily.” Her debut, Crime Zone, sounds nothing like a first album, and her follow up, Iron Starlet, proves her staying power. This is an artist who has absorbed the work of her heroes, and emerged with a powerful voice of her own.

Sammy Miller and the Congregation
WED–SAT, JAN 27–30 | 7:30PM Vanderhoef Studio Theatre
—The Sacramento Bee on Sammy Miller and the Congregation
Sammy Miller and The Congregation are on a mission to put the generosity back into jazz and bring art back to the people. A native of Los Angeles, Grammy-nominated drummer Sammy Miller has become known for his relentless focus on making music that feels good. Upon completing his Master’s at The Juilliard School, Sammy formed his ensemble, The Congregation. As a band, they share the power of community through their music—joyful jazz. While independently the band members have performed and recorded with notable artists including Wynton Marsalis, Lady Gaga, and Queen Latifah at venues including the White House, Lincoln Center and the Hollywood Bowl, they have opted to stick together to spread joy throughout the world.
