The Queen's Cartoonists

WED, FEB 3 | 7:30PM Jackson Hall

Behind The Queen’s Cartoons is a single question: is it possible to create jazz and classical music in the 21st century that appeals to everyone? The Queen’s Cartoonists answer the question with a concert for everybody regardless of age, gender, or familiarity with the concert hall. The Queen’s Cartoonists play music from classic cartoons and contemporary animation synchronized to video projections of the original films, leading the audience through a world of virtuosic musicianship, multi-instrumental mayhem and comedy. Tying this diverse concert together are comedic anecdotes involving the cartoons and their composers. Expect the unexpected from repertoire that includes the Golden Age of animation, cult cartoon classics, modern animation and elements of a musical circus.

Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain

A musicologist’s nightmare.

—Music Week on the Ukes

Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain

FRI, APR 16 | 7:30PM Jackson Hall

When the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain began in 1985, the public opinion was that an orchestra consisting entirely of ukuleles in different sizes was a strange concept. This was something that attracted the founders. The idea was to make something fresh and entertaining, both modern and old-fashioned, in a different style which deviated from the current performance fashion. And how they have succeeded: a concert by “the Ukes” is a funny, virtuosic, twanging, awesome, foot-stomping party of rock ’n’ roll and melodious entertainment, featuring only the “bonsai guitar” and a menagerie of voices. For those that believe that every genre of music is up for reinterpretation, so long as it’s played on the ukulele, this is the show for you!
