“A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him”.
Johnny Vega, the Mondelēz Business Services (MBS) Site Leader in Costa Rica, is seen as a positive role model; a person who radiates humility and admiration at the same time.

These words, by the American newscaster David Brinkley, definitely fit this month’s featured leader.

Destiny. That’s what moved him from HB Fuller, to join Kraft Foods. “I was not interested at all. But then I said yes to see what was out there. They told me it was Kraft, which was new for me, a food company, an industry I had no knowledge about”, Johnny confessed.
Last year, after 19 years in ISC, Johnny took a new challenge. To become the site leader for MBS, a center in charge of human resources processes. “I saw the opportunity of MBS beyond HR. If we do well and prove
to the company that we are capable of doing what we need to do, we might bring more processes”, said the business administrator graduated from Universidad Latina. “Keep it simple” is the value he treasures the most. He believes that being efficient and adding value to the organization are key. “I dislike rework, I dislike when things get really complicated. We need to find the best ways to get things done”.
BEING a role model A big role comes with big responsibilities. For Johnny, this means building the right culture, clearly communicate the MBS goals, and developing talent. “I want to ensure all of you get opportunities to get exposed to new situations, move all of you up to the next level, seeing you happy, to me is important. I am a happy person and I want you feeling that way”. He is committed to prove to the organization that, something that has
only been used in ISC, can also add value to an environment such as HR. “We are getting this great opportunity to shine, to demonstrate to the company that we can implement Lean in an office and deliver results, and build capabilities for people so they can be ready for the next level.”
WHAT IS NEXT
TO COME? “For the first time in my life, I don’t know; which is OK. I have a blank paper in my desk right now. I want to grow within MBS and continue working for this company, but I don’t know yet what the future holds for me. Over 12 years, the organization has given me a priceless gift of moving from and to different areas”. Cooking is one of Johnny´s favorite hobbies. He actually has “becoming a chef” in the top of his bucket list. “I would like to in a certain point of my life, when I complete my career within the company. Cooking brings people together. That’s the way I demonstrate love to others, by cooking.”
As the challenges keep on knocking on his door, Johnny continues to lead the MBS project with a smile on his face, always carrying his positive attitude to wherever he goes, and inspiring people to develop and unleash their potential.
