Product Highlights

As part of darc's 10th anniversary, we asked Managing Editor Helen Ankers to select a handful of her favourite designs that she has seen launched over the last decade.

Lambert et Fils Hutchison

Hutchison is the thoughtful study of soft curves and hard lines—a rivalry of vertical and horizontal forces and a play of scale and repetition. Alone, it self-defines as a frank, decorative pendant light. In multiples, it evokes the iconic patterns of Middle Eastern archways and Roman terracotta roofs. Each Hutchison pendant is composed of an aluminium base with a matte, textured finish that pivots attention to its contours and lines. Visually prominent suspension wires made from waxed cotton contrast the dense horizontal base – an interplay of mass and lightness. www.lambertetfils.com

Martinelli Luce Cyborg

Designed by Karim Rashid, Cyborg table lamp is a direct diffused light. The Structure is made of cast aluminium painted in white, clear blue, light lime, light grey and a natural aluminium colour.

A white opal polycarbonate diffuser and LED light source with integrated, electronic drive, and an on/off touch sensor are featured. www.martinelliluce.it

Nemo Bird

Designed by Bernhard Osann, Bird is a minimalist and discreet design, a light that sits - and balances - on the edge of any surface: the lamp oscillates and moves but always returns to the horizontal position, thanks to a vertical brass counterweight. Moreover, the LED module incorporated in the arm rotates around its own axis, making the lamp versatile providing diffused direct and indirect lighting. Switching on and dimming through a proximity sensor. www.nemolighting.com

Vibia North

“North is a system that exists in space, it’s like the light from the sun, which over the year changes its height and position,” says designer Arik Levy. The North collection for Vibia consists of a pendant and floor lamp. The floor version fuses the concept of a floor and ceiling light together. A long carbon fibre rod, its lightweight and flexible qualities making it the perfect support, hangs from the ceiling via an almost imperceptible steel cable. A counterweight at floor level guides the electrical cable from the conical shade to the wall socket and makes it possible to place the light fitting in any designer position. With its essential design, North pierces the air, extending its luminous coverage while defining a space without overwhelming. www.vibia.com

Sans Souci Frozen

The Frozen collection by Sans Souci embodies the beauty of flowers through crystal petals that appear floating to the ground in formations. Suspended fragile, handblown, artisan crystal glass pieces glide from the ceiling in various dreamy, gilded edges that state true luxury. Gradient intensifies the icy effect and icy snowflakes. Each crystal petal is blown, shaped, and painted by hand, using glass colouring technology. The component was designed by Barbora Jarošová and it comes in various colours including crystal with silver mica, crystal with cognac and golden mica, crystal with gilded edge, cognac with light cognac and tabac mist and crystal with onyx. www.sanssoucilighting.com

Secto Kuulto

Designed by Seppo Koho, the Kuulto ceiling lamp is made of form-pressed birch slats, white painted steel casing and acrylic glass. the Kuulto ceiling lamp stands out for three reasons: first, its round design looks different at every angle. Secondly, birch was not commonly used for ceiling lamps before Kuulto. Thirdly, the Kuulto lamp is versatile: it can be used on the wall and the ceiling. The light source is dimmable, and a bright Kuulto gives a totally different atmosphere than a dimmed one. www.sectodesign.fi
