Shortlisted - Best Performance Venue Philharmonie de Paris Europe TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Paris, France Manufacturers: L-Acoustics, Amadeus, Lawo, Solid State Logic, DPA, Shoeps, Sennheiser, Neumann, Shure, Merging, ETC Designer: dUCKS Sceno Dominated by the Grande Salle, with five, ultra-modern rehearsal rooms, one large enough to accommodate audience seating of up to 3,400, as well as recording facilities, Philharmonie de Paris was a huge project involving a number of manufacturers. “In the concert hall, the acoustic requirement has a noise rating of 10. As a consequence, all scenic equipment inside the house had to be silent, without any noise from so much as a fan,” explained Jean Francois Mathais, a consultant with dUCKS Sceno, who worked on the project from 2007, developing the design of the auditorium alongside dUCKS’ Scenographer, Michel Cova and Sir Harold Marshall’s team from Marshall Day Acoustics. “We chose sine wave dimmers to have no lamp filament noises and traditional spotlights, instead of moving heads, to remove the possibility of fan noise,” he continued. “After studying fixed installations for classical concerts, and with experience of designing the lighting for that Danish Radio Concert Hall in Copenhagen, we decided on 50 ETC Source Four ETC PARs 750W floodlights, installed in a mobile acoustic reflector canopy to ensure basic light for orchestra, which works like a shower from directly above the stage. In terms of the audio, the flexing aspirations of the Philharmonie de Paris needed to be accommodated by L-Acoustics. Arnaud Delorme, Application Engineer with L-Acoustics, remembered: “The first idea was a Kara system, perfect for a classical music, but it evolved to a K2, variable curvature line source system

to accommodate world music or pop music. From the start, Philharmonie de Paris was confident that the system would achieve the consistent coverage needed for world music shows, meeting predictions made in our Soundvision software. But then, we met the challenge of accommodating pop or rock music in a venue acoustically designed for philharmonic concerts.” In addition to the audience-facing stage configuration, the L-Acoustics installation is complemented by three side-stage SB28 cardioid subwoofers for strength of impact and two further front-sited SB28’s to ensure homogeneity of coverage. Perhaps one of the most intense relationships to develop as part of the Philharmonie de Paris project was that of Amadeus, with the venue team, led by Technical Director, Jean-Rémi Baudonne and the architect. So intricate was the problem presented, and so concerted the effort to provide solutions, that Amadeus ultimately developed a new speaker range, the PdP Series (PdP stands for Philharmonie de Paris), to ensure that form perfectly met with function. Decisions on procuring a range of microphones and configuration of those provided conformed not only to the highest standards of quality, but also meticulous scrutiny of where exactly they could be placed. Once again, remaining unobtrusive, if not invisible, was key. Christophe Bonneau, Product Manager of Audio2 Distribution, was the point of liaison between a consultant crew from Paris’ Salle Pleyel, the Philharmonie team and microphone brand, DPA. Other microphones in the inventory include Shoeps, Sennheiser, Neumann and Shure. Between the Solid State Logic and Lawo, the venue’s monitoring and mixing console requirements have been comprehensively covered, spanning the technological advances that occurred over the nine years from inception to launch and what might be yet to come. Merging joined the venues enviable line up of technical thinkers to help develop the Philharmonie de Paris’ recording, production and digital distribution set-up, installing four Pyramix MassCore DAWs in every studio set up for recording, equipped with Horus AoIP converters. www.l-acoustics.com

Shortlisted Best Performance Venue Dai Show Theatre APAC TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Xishuangbanna, China Manufacturers: Meyer Sound Distributor: Shanghai Broad Future Electro Technology Co Ltd Architect: Mark Fisher, Stufish Sound Designer: Corrado Campanelli Installer: Shenzhen Runze Lighting & Audio Technology Development Co Ltd A thematic 1,183-seat venue inspired by the local culture and nature of Xishuangbanna in the Yunnan Province in China, the Dai Show Theatre houses nightly jaw-dropping acrobatic water shows. The shows are bolstered by immersive music and effects sonically choreographed through a 128-channel Meyer Sound D-Mitri digital audio platform and reproduced by an encircling array of 103 Meyer Sound loudspeakers. The D-Mitri platform, working seamlessly with CueConsole control surfaces, provides a complete and fully integrated solution for mixing, matrixing, multitrack playback and show control. In addition, Meyer Sound’s innovative Space Map software allows dynamic panning of sounds around and across the two rings of individually addressable, self-powered loudspeakers. “Since this was all original music, I could work with [Dai Show composer Michael Brennan] to identify

instruments or sounds that could be dynamically moved during the performance. I do not know of any system other than D-Mitri that can accomplish this as easily and effectively,” said designer Corrado Campanelli. The venue has a main inner ring of 10 UPA-1P loudspeakers as the main system and a delay ring of 23 UP-4XP loudspeakers under the surrounding soffit. They deployed two more rings with a total of 59 smaller loudspeakers for the dynamic surround effects. “Because of the 100% routing through Meyer systems, from D-Mitri and CueConsole through the Galileo processors and into the loudspeakers, set-up was made much easier. Everything is fully compatible and has only one source of excellent technical support,” added Corrado . The Meyer Sound house loudspeaker complement also includes two UPQ-1P and two UPM-1P loudspeakers; three UPJ-1P VariO loudspeakers; 19 UPJunior-XP VariO loudspeakers and 49 MM-4XP self-powered loudspeakers, both with IntelligentDC technology; three 1100-LFC lowfrequency control elements; two M1D-Sub subwoofers; and a Galileo loudspeaker management system with two Galileo 616 processors. The monitoring system utilised four UPJ1XP loudspeakers and a second CueConsole control surface connected to a 72-channel D-Mitri platform. www.meyersound.com

Shortlisted - Best Performance Venue Opéra Bastille Europe TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Paris, France Manufacturers: Fohhn Audio Distributor: Rock-Audio Distribution Acoustician: SILENCE! The complex architecture and difficult acoustics within the opera house demanded some very specific requirements from its new sound system: it should be seamlessly integrated into the surroundings while delivering the highest levels of speech intelligibility and music reproduction to every seat in the house. Acoustically, the main balconies of the auditorium posed a challenge as each one covers the seating directly below. Placing loudspeakers level with the seating - or above it - did not guarantee even coverage of every row. With the top tier 18-metres high and 40-metres from the stage, providing optimum sound coverage without spoiling the architecture or impeding audience views, required a system that can deliver on a number of different levels. The decision to use loudspeakers equipped with Fohhn’s stateof-the art beam steering technology killed two birds with one stone. Firstly, it could eradicate any acoustic problems caused by the main balconies. Secondly, the systems’ slim, compact

dimensions would ensure excellent sound quality while blending unobtrusively into the hall’s interior. Focus Modular systems were selected to provide precise, high-quality coverage of both the main part of the hall and the balconies. At each side of the stage, a 7.48-metre column comprising five loudspeaker modules was installed. A stack of three FM-400 low-mid modules forms the column’s centre, with high frequency FM-110 modules top and bottom. The individually generated sound beams from each speaker module can effectively cover all seating areas without spoiling the view. The beams can be adjusted to reach the tiers of seating at the very back, below the main balconies. Due to two beam technology, which enables the generation of two separate sound beams, unwanted sound reflections from the balustrades can be avoided. The main system was supplemented on both sides of the hall by passive Linea LX series line source speakers, driven by D-4.1200 amplifiers with integrated digital signal processors. The amplifier DSPs enable frequency response and run time adjustments to be made, therefore optimising the LX systems in relation to the main system and the room architecture. www.fohhn.com

Winner - Best Performance Venue Harbin Grand Theatre APAC

TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Harbin, China Manufacturers: Kling & Freitag Distributor: Shanghai MYC Architect: MAD Lighting / Visual Designer: Shanghai MYC Acoustician: Shanghai MYC Installer: Shanghai MYC The main hall of the Grand Theatre can seat 1,600 people and the designer planners have implemented something very special here - a choice of two permanently installed speaker systems. The SEQUENZA 10 line array system from German manufacturer, Kling & Freitag is available with 12 full-range SEQUENZA 10N elements and two SEQUENZA 10B subwoofers, installed right and left of the stage. At the Harbin Theatre, the line array is not only suitable in terms of level, but it more than meets the high requirements in terms of sound intelligibility. Furthermore, the large hall has a surround sound system with sound point sources to choose from. Depending on the performance, the different samples, music pieces, effects and the like can be placed acoustically in the room. Therefore, sound point sources from the Kling & Freitag ACCESS Series are used for a L-C-R system. Bass support is provided by six double 18-inch subwoofers - the Kling & Freitag ACCESS B10. Additional Kling & Freitag speaker systems are available in a variety of sizes for further surround sound. This inventory includes the typical installation loudspeakers of Kling & Freitag’s, the pro.INSTALL Series SONA 5, and the internationally renowned Kling & Freitag CA Series. The audio signals from the mixer are coupled redundantly via Dante, as well as analogue, and to drive of the systems are around 50 Kling & Freitag SystemAmps from the PLM Series. This provides a high degree of reliability at all times. In addition, this modern type of signal distribution has many advantages in the area of installation and sound quality. www.kling-freitag.com

Shortlisted - Best Sporting Venue T-Mobile Arena Americas TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Las Vegas, USA Manufacturers: JBL, Crown, BSS, Daktronics, ETC Lighting / Visual Designer: 4Wall Acoustician: WJHW Installer: ATK Audiotek The world-class, $375 million, multipurpose entertainment venue, T-Mobile Arena, which has a maximum seating capacity of 20,000, is equipped to host large concerts, award shows, basketball, boxing and mixed martial arts, as well as many other major events. With such high eexpectations for the arena, it was vital that everything was in place when it first opened its doors. This included the technical install, with sound, video and lighting playing a huge role in every event at the arena. Michael MacDonald, President of ATK Audiotek, served as a Project Manager for the audio installation inside the arena itself, with his task being to provide the venue with the best possible sound reinforcement coverage and intelligibility. Michael takes up the story: “We were asked by the folks at LVA Corporation to quote an audio system that would meet the consultant specification for the bowl system, but, as well as that, could also be redeployed for portable applications. From there, we began working with Harman Professional Solutions on a system that could meet or even exceed the consultant specification, along with being highly flexible and portable to meet the needs of the production team at T-Mobile Arena.” To ensure that the audio install did provide a concert quality, a six-cluster sound system was installed. Designed by Dallasbased consulting firm, WJHW, the clusters consist of 72 JBL VTX V25-II line arrays and 36 JBL VTX S28 subwoofers, all of which are powered by 18 Crown VRack amplifiers. The JBL VTX line array clusters are used as the centrepiece of the whole audio setup, Michael explained why: “Performance,

coverage and rider acceptance all drove the decision to go with the JBL VTX V25-II, but in the end, it’s the overall value that is the deciding factor. The VTX V25-II sounds great and has astounding output and bandwidth. To complete the whole package, the system has Crown I-Tech HD amplification with BSS OmniDriveHD V5 processing and JBL HiQnet Performance Manager configuration and control software. The system at the T-Mobile Arena also included cardioid subwoofer arrays that were specifically designed by Scott Bray, a consultant at WJHW, to direct the infrasonic sound towards the audience and away from the hard walls and the roof structure. VTX S28 subwoofers from JBL, which provide extremely high peak-to-peak excursion capabilities to deliver extended low frequency performance, are used in the venue. It was established early in the plans for the T-Mobile Arena that the video displays would be a huge part of the venue, so, with that in mind, Daktronics was selected to design, manufacture and install 25 LED video displays in and around the venue. The install includes the very first see-through display in the city - which is also one of the largest in the US as well as a central video display, fascia, tunnel entry, scorer’s tables and exterior displays. For the lighting aspect of the T-Mobile Arena install, the venue’s management enlisted the help of 4Wall, a full-service lighting company also based in Las Vegas. 4Wall’s Systems Integrator, Barbara Brenna was initially contacted to bid on the lighting control systems for the T-Mobile Arena. The execution of the project was then led by 4Wall’s Project Manager, Steven Byers, Shaun Ballew, the Senior Drafter and Project Technician, Josh Lentner. For the lighting control system, 4Wall specified the ETC Paradigm due to its versatility and reliability, along with the ETC Echo Relay Panel Feedthrough, which allowed multiple lighting control circuit feeds with one circuit breaker and direct dimming control. With the lighting control in place, along with the audio and video installations, T-Mobile Arena is more than ready to host a whole range of events, concerts and shows. pro.harman.com

Shortlisted - Best Sporting Venue Krasnodar Stadium Europe TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Krasnodar, Russia Manufacturers: Funktion-One, Lab.gruppen Distributor and Installer: Edelweiss Audio Acoustician: SPeeCH Architecture Office, GMP Architekten Edelweiss Audio completed a standout Funktion-One installation at Krasnodar Stadium, following 18 months of listening tests, design negotiations, new loudspeaker developments and a large-scale installation. From the very beginning, the owners of the state-of-the-art stadium were determined that the sound system and the audio quality would be a priority. Edelweiss tendered for the project and was invited to take part in a listening test alongside companies representing most, if not all, of the pro audio manufacturers active in arena/stadium sound. The company was then invited back to attend a second round of listening tests featuring a shortlist of companies. The owners were sold on the Funktion-One sound, which at the time was demonstrated using Resolution 5’s, and appointed Edelweiss as the audio contractor for the project. For those who haven’t seen Krasnodar Stadium, it is an architectural wonder in the ilk of a Roman colosseum. Inside, there is a stunning 360-degree video screen. It, therefore, comes as little surprise that Edelweiss faced some challenges when prescribing the best possible audio solution for the venue. This impacted the audio design at various stages, from the testing right through to the installation. The stadium’s roof has two layers and the architect’s design demanded that the speaker arrangements should be hidden between the roof layers. At this stage, Edelweiss’s Technical Director, Andrei Kremenchugskiy consulted with Funktion-One’s Tony Andrews. Subsequently, there was more dialogue between Edelweiss and the architect and a trip to a similarly designed stadium in Europe was planned. Funktion-One’s John Newsham joined Edelweiss and the client for the trip. The outcome went little way to supporting the architect’s argument, as the customer wasn’t impressed. A compromise was needed. Edelweiss originally wanted to use Funktion-One MSTs with smaller subs. Instead, a new Funktion-One Evo configuration was developed - with significant input from John Newsham and others at Funktion-One in the UK. This resulted in the development of new customised product - the Evo 6EHQ. These specially designed enclosures house four Evo 6 waveguides, arrayed two wide and two deep. A total of 18 Evo 6EHQ enclosures have been deployed around the stadium, approximately 20-metres apart. Funktion-One F215 Mk2 bass enclosures were installed between the Evo 6EHQs. Six standard Evo 6EH loudspeakers were supplied for pitch coverage. In one final twist to the sound design, a request for more bass led to the newly developed Funktion-One F124 24-inch bass enclosures being paired with the F215 Mk2’s, to extend the frequency range down to 30Hz. To say this level of installation for a stadium is unusual would be an understatement. As Andrei pointed out, the coverage is very even across the stadium, with good intelligibility throughout. As each Evo 6EHQ cluster is split left and right, it’s possible to achieve stereo sound between the clusters. This is no standard stadium installation. www.funktion-one.com

Shortlisted Best Sporting Venue Pride Park Europe TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Derby, UK Manufacturers: d&b audiotechnik Acoustician: RH Consulting Installer: Central & County Closed Circuit Home to Derby County Football Club (DCFC), the 33,000+ capacity Pride Park Stadium now offers a concert quality, compliant, and simple to use sound reinforcement system that will be easy to maintain and modify as the venue’s needs change in the future. While its primary purpose is to deliver crystal clear speech for safety reasons, the club’s new system delivers a level of musicality for that fully immersive party atmosphere. That this project was realised in just eight weeks is testament to the creative and collaborative approach Derby took to their investment, as Stuart Fisher, Chief Technical Officer at DCFC explained: “We worked together with RH Consulting for audio modelling, engineering and commissioning; with d&b for loudspeakers, and QSC Q-SYS for controls, managing everything internally to get the best fit for our needs at every stage throughout the process; we didn’t want a one size fits all solution. In this respect, getting the system installed with d&b really was a partnership, and remains so. We wouldn’t have been as comfortable with our approach without that level of collaboration.” The new system relies on a redundant secure network designed within the club and was installed by DCFC’s own maintenance department, and installation partner Central & County Closed Circuit (CCCC). Within the bowl 22 clusters of the V-Series Vi loudspeakers realise the design brief for sound pressure levels, musicality and Speech Transmission Index (STI). The impressive pattern control of the three-way passive Vi point sources freed the team from pursuing a line array solution, which would have meant a greater number of loudspeakers, amplifier channels, and subsequent cost. With maximum utility in mind, the current draw of the four channel, installation specific 30D amplifiers, and flagship D80’s, enabled the club to achieve its targets for sustainability and efficiency in both idle and driven states. Weather resistant

and air conditioned amplifier racks are mounted on the stadium roof and monitored for temperature and humidity. Integrated to a Q-SYS backbone - a key requirement of the upgrade - the system serves both Public Address and Voice Alarm (PAVA) needs; in addition, RH Consulting ensured the system met all the required national and European voice alarm standards, making Derby the only UK stadium compliant, to the letter, with FIFA standards. RH Consulting liaised with the local council and provided all the licensing and safety documentation, which was approved without question. Thinking outside the box, utilising the knowledge and skills of in-house teams together with existing contractors, and external partnerships of equal enthusiasm and dedication to the task, have undoubtedly contributed to the success of Derby’s story. “In a time when we are so often asked to compromise on quality and time available it’s tempting just to get a project over the line to the minimum requirement,” said consultant Roland Hemming. But this is not one of those projects. “The result is unquestionably the best sounding stadium in the UK.” For Derby’s Stuart Fisher, the benefits of taking a bespoke approach are clear: “In terms of achievable sound quality for the stadium, the d&b system exceeds expectations. When RH Consulting signed off, the measurement for voice evacuation was the highest value of any stadium recorded in the UK with a STI score reaching up to 0.74 and no seat below 0.52. That’s the biggest accolade. “Since the new system was commissioned we’re getting comments all the time regarding the clarity: from fans, the board of directors and visiting teams. As for the impact on match days; one of the reasons for the upgrade was to address the audio dead spots we had in the bowl, because the sound was directed back into the stand the players couldn’t hear anything. Now we have the same quality and clarity everywhere in the stadium, including for the players. We couldn’t have achieved the current level of performance with any other system and this is what really matters, because everyone, no matter where they’re seated, experiences every minute of the game together.” www.dbaudio.com

TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Lyon, France Manufacturers: Powersoft, EAW, Symetrix, Yamaha Acoustician: SNEF, AXIANS, Atlier Audiovisuel The new build 59,186-seat Parc Olympique Lyonnais stadium, constructed as a host venue for Euro 2016 (four group matches, a round of 16, and a semi-final) at a cost of £340m, is not only one of the most energy-efficient, but also technologically progressive stadia. Billed as France’s first ‘connected’ 2.0 stadium, it is arguably the most advanced facility in Europe. Parc OL’s EAW PA system is powered by a deployment of Powersoft Class D Ottocanali multichannel switch mode amplifiers, representing the best power-to-output ratio ever deployed, and consequently much lower operating costs. Designed by renowned architects Populous, it is the third largest sports venue in France. It benefits from an entire Dante network that feeds all areas in the stadium, as well as the nearby OBVans, and boasts a TV studio, dozens of LCD TV screens, two 90 sq metres LED screens and a UEFA-approved LED Perimetral system. Thanks to the connectivity and services provided by Orange Business Services and the mobile app developed by stadium owner Olympique Lyonnais, over 30,000 fans can connect simultaneously over Wi-Fi for an end-to-end digital experience: They get instant replay and highlights from multiple angles, real time statistics and video interviews by accessing the special mobile app, as well as the ability to order food and drinks remotely, book seats and parking spaces, access the stadium, etc. Finally, in its quest for being a carbon conscious stadium, the roof collects rainwater for internal use. Integration specialists SNEF and AXIANS worked with the design office of Atelier Audiovisuel, the engineering consulting firm in charge of the project. The Powersoft Ottocanalis were recommended for their matchless ‘green’ credentials, dual redundant power supply, reliability and supreme sonic fidelity. In addition, Powersoft amplifiers boast active damping control to compensate for long cable runs. Logistically, eight independently configurable Ottocanali channels drive 56 EAW loudspeakers. Aside from the vast reduction in operating costs, each compact 2RU device can deliver up to 8,000W of Class-D power across the eight channels into a four-ohm load. The bi-amped speakers feature four phase aligned 12-inch cone transducers each. There is also a vast amount of power in the LF, which is a big advantage for a stadium. The two 16mm pixel pitch LED screens, supplied by local AV company Charvet Digital Média, represent over one million pixels. Situated in the North East and South West upper tiers, they each have a surface of 88.5 sq metres (12.3-metres x 7.2m-metres). www.powersoft-audio.com

Shortlisted - Best Integrated Resort Studio City APAC TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Macau, China Manufacturer, Distributor, Installer, Lighting/Visual Designer: illumination Physics Architect: Gary Goddard Entertainment Studio City opened amid much fanfare with the concept and architectural design of the façades the work of Gary Goddard Entertainment. Studio City carries the strongest entertainment theming of any resort in Macau and the epic movie theatre vision pervades every part of the building, internally and externally. The lighting design is mindful of the urban landscape and the prevailing cultural preferences regarding the use of colour and movement. illumination Physics brought the architect’s vision to fruition by devising façade lighting that is necessarily theatrical in style. Based upon old Hollywood glamour and the world of motion pictures, the building evokes an Art Deco style reminiscent of the fabled Gotham city and is an overt expression of its purpose; to attract guests amongst an increasingly competitive market. To promote the period theme, the façade lighting design makes

use of indirect view lighting, strikingly highlighted in the ‘Golden Reel’ – a 20-storey high Ferris wheel ride inspired by a Hollywood-style tale of two flaming asteroids crashing through the façade and creating a perfect golden figure-of-eight. The Golden Reel is illuminated by 972 custom designed miniature wash lights using very warm white to create a golden sparkle. Surrounding the Golden Reel is a media wall comprised of 3,008 high power LED pixels, used to convey notional content that interacts with the façade lighting. The lighting of the podium is 100% static; LED fixtures of warm and neutral white hark back to an incandescent era. In contrast to the podium, the overhead tower makes use of red, green, blue, and amber lighting to create spectacular colour changes. illumination Physics designed numerous custom light fixtures, ranging from the powerful Wash 48 100W RGBA to the CR80 miniature washlight. The addition of six searchlights raking the sky completes this tantalising trailer, enticing all passers-by to discover the glamour that awaits them inside. Lighting design is a derivative art form and illumination Physics’ lighting of Studio City reinforces the remarkable elements of the spectacle this building creates. illuminationphysics.com

Royal Caribbean International’s Harmony of the Seas, set sail with a large energyefficient Elation Professional LED lighting package used in the ship’s main entertainment and relaxation areas. Built by STX France in Saint-Nazaire, France, the 5,479-guest ship is an environmentally friendly ‘smartship’ in which energy savings and energy efficiency take priority. Sound, light and stage technology for many of the public areas onboard was installed by VIDELIO-HMS, including engineering and commissioning. Christopher Vlassopulos, Superintendent SLVR & Architectural Lighting for Royal Caribbean International, coordinated the design and specification for all the entertainment equipment in Harmony of the Seas’ public spaces, including the ship’s entertainment lighting systems. “This ship is really a testament to how far LED technology has come since Allure of the Seas launched seven years ago,” he said. “The directive of no incandescent lamps onboard and no lamp changes means we realise millions of dollars in savings over the lifetime of Royal Caribbean ships. By switching from incandescent to LED we benefit from less maintenance and less power used, and with less heat generated there is a lower burden on the air conditioning system which translates into power and fuel savings. The dollar savings over the lifetime of a ship is quite significant.” There is also less cabling, fewer connections to contend with, and there are no dimmers to work with. The real advantage with technology is that it gives us more flexibility.” Another factor that shouldn’t go unstated is the fact that the Elation products must also hold up to the harsh environment onboard a ship - the constant motion, exposure to salt water, humidity and high temperatures. Energy-efficient LED lighting systems can be found across the ship including in the Royal Theater, Studio B ice rink, Royal Promenade, AquaTheater, Boardwalk, FlowRider surf area, Solarium, and the pool area, as well as a host of other onboard clubs, bars and lounges. www.elationlighting.com

Shortlisted - Best Integrated Resort Hangar 58 Europe TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Bokrijk, Belgium Manufacturers: d3 Technologies, Digital Projection Distributor: FACE Architect: Wim Grommers Lighting/Visual Designer: Luc Peumans Painting with Light has created a 3D mapped projection artwork for the Hangar 58 event space at Bokrijk in Limburg, one of the region’s most important historical landmarks and a popular open air museum. The permanently installed show was the brainchild of Hanger 58’s owner Wim Grommers, who approached Painting with Light’s Luc Peumans to create storyboards, video artwork and a library of standard content to be made available to various clients renting the space, with custom material available on request. He wanted something spectacular and eye-catching to set the venue apart and add value to the events hosted there. The idea is that guests can view the show through the large glass walls of the modern Hanger 58 in the winter and enjoy the large format show standing outside in the summer evenings. When running, the projection images measure approximately 40-metres long and 20-metres tall and cover a series of different shaped buildings set at 90-degrees to one another in one of the historical villages replicated at Bokrijk. Painting with Light undertook a complete 3D scan of the building facades before creating the multi-million pixel ‘map’ and then Luc and his team, including Bart Tauwenberg from New

Solid, started work on the content – making it humorous, fun and entertaining. The shows, lasting between five and 10 minutes, precisely match the lines of the buildings. Having the two separate surfaces means the images can be split to help tell the story with contrasting and complimentary images. This presents a challenge in getting the harmony between the two elements just right, but allows a dual narrative to be running. A d3 4×2 pro media server stores and runs the content chosen for its mapping capabilities and the inbuilt 3D visualiser that enabled the team to present an accurate replication for sign off by the client. Jo Pauly and Michel Stroobants from Visual Solutions completed the d3 media server programming and projector alignment. The projections are fed by two Digital Projection (DP) Titan Quartz 20K machines - both located inside Hangar 58, one pointing directly at one set of building surfaces and the other firing across at a 45-degree angle. The initial ‘library’ shows that Luc and the team have produced feature sections which can easily be customised to include sequences and images specific to a client. Alternatively, completely bespoke artwork can be produced from scratch if required. The projection installation has immediately been a hit with individuals and organisations organising events in Hanger 58, and is proving a highly flexible solution for their clients to make their shows stand-out. www.paintingwithlight.com

Winner - Best Integrated Resort Puy du Fou Europe

TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Les Epesses, France Manufacturers: L-Acoustics, DiGiCo, Chauvet, Modulo Pi, Christie, ShowTex Lighting / Visual Designer: Koert Vermeulen, ACT Lighting Best described as a rural theme park minus the rides, Puy du Fou is home to some of the most spectacular, extravagant shows in which thousands of actors and animals recreate historical stories, from Roman gladiators through to King Arthur, all with incredible special effects. Now, Puy du Fou has taken things to the next level once again, with its new production - Le Dernier Panache, which is the most daring show ever created at Puy du Fou - and it is only enhanced by the setting. Performed in the custom-built, 360° Theatre of Giants, which utilises advanced motion technology to create a rotating theatre, the 2,400 members of the audience are immersed in the story on a multi-sensory level, slowly rotating to watch the performance on seven different stages. With such an ambitious production, the technical install proved to be challenging - with audio, lighting, video and special effects all having to be taken into consideration. The task of providing lighting was down to renowned Lighting Designer, Koert Vermeulen, along with his team at ACT Lighting, with the idea being to use the lighting to help create seamless changes from scene to scene. Koert, who has had a longstanding relationship with Puy du Fou after his work on the award-winning Cinéscénie show, planned to achieve this through careful planning, a deft lighting design and the adroit placement of fixtures, which were provided by Chauvet. Koert used all 120 of the Ovation E-910FC fixtures within the proscenium for side lighting, cross lighting, top lighting and gobo washing. The RGBA-Lime Ovation LED fixtures are used throughout the production to produce a whole rainbow of colours. An aspect of the install that had to work in conjunction with the lighting was the stage backdrops, curtains and drapes, which were provided by ShowTex – another company with 10 years of experience in working alongside the team at Puy du Fou. The specialised technicians at ShowTex were able to meet the precise, structured requirements that came with such an ambitious project, providing a realistic, unique and long-lasting install that brought Le Dernier Panache to life. To highlight the scenery and create an ambience that matched the theme of Le Dernier Panache, masking drapes made of Molton CS were hung in six scenic spaces. However, the main showpiece of the install was the giant panoramic screen, which ShowTex provided using 900sq metres of FP-SuperMat. The bottom of the screen - which is 80-metres wide and 11-metres tall - is immersed in water and hit by waves during the show, so ShowTex had to ensure that the screen absorbed the waves and stayed tight by using an open tube with curved weight pipes and a stainless steel chain. Puy du Fou turned to Modulo Pi to provide its video solution, with Cosmo AV providing the images and Christie projectors used, too. The Modulo Kinetic Designer is used for control, with eight Modulo Kinetic Vnode 4K feeding eight Christie 4K Boxer projectors and another Kinetic Vnode for four Christie 2K projectors. With such a original concept, the projections onto the seven screens were made by tracking the screen position based on OSC machinery, with the Modulo Kinetic system projecting both on the top and on the ground to provide truly breath-taking scenery. A sound-transparent projection surface was also required at Puy du Fou to achieve total immersion. New Mesh was provided by ShowTex for a black backdrop and stretched tight, with the sound source for the show mostly installed behind the fabric. For the sound source, L-Acoustics were on hand to provide a bespoke solution that would grip the audience as they watched Le Dernier Panache performed. Arnaud Delorme, the Applications Engineer at L-Acoustics, who worked on the installation at Puy du Fou, explained how the project came about: “L-Acoustics has been working with Puy du Fou, providing sound systems for their shows, since 2000. For the Le Dernier Panache, everything started when Nicolas De Villiers and his team had this ambitious idea for a show where the audience tribune would turn 360° from one stage to the other. “This idea introduced a new challenge for sound design which was: how can you keep a sound element in front of the audience while the tribune is turning. At the same time, Christian Heil was beginning the hard work that would lead to L-ISA many months later.” An L-ISA installation includes a Frontal speaker system to amplify the main scene area, with Scene speakers providing an accurate correlation between the sound and the position of the artists and Extension speakers to laterally extend the main scene and broaden the soundscape. There’s also the Immersive system, which complements the Frontal system, that is deployed around or above the audience to provide localised sound effects and the creation of an immersive sound experience through L-ISA algorithms. The incredible clarity and immersive experience that the innovative L-ISA system, along with the lighting, backdrops and video content, provides plays an absolutely vital role in the performance of Le Dernier Panache, enhancing the deep emotion of the show and gripping the audience throughout. www.l-acoustics.com

Shortlisted - Best House of Worship Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury Europe TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: London, UK Manufacturers: Tannoy, Lab.gruppen Installer: Autograph Sales & Installations The Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury opened in August 2014, built at a cost of around ÂŁ20m. While principally a place of worship, the Mandir and surrounding facilities that make up Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Complex play host to a range of cultural, artistic, sporting, educational and charitable activities, all inspired by His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree Purushottampriyadasji Maharaj, the current sovereign of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi. The Mandir has undergone renovations and audio upgrades since its grand opening in 2014, and most recently in 2016 Autograph Sales & Installations were involved in the design, supply and commissioning of an integrated audio system throughout the main building which houses the temple, offices, a secondary space (The Dharma Hall) and kitchens. Autograph selected Tannoy loudspeakers with amplification from Lab. gruppen to meet the demands of the installation. Due to the nature of Gujurati indigenous musical instruments and the music and spoken word which is integral to their ceremonial life, the demands on the audio system were somewhat unusual especially in terms of frequency reproduction. It was also essential that the system be able to deliver fairly high continuous SPLs with clarity and definition whilst being as unobtrusive as possible. All the Tannoy loudspeakers and brackets were therefore delivered in white to match the decor.

The main temple space audio system is based around a pair of Tannoy Q-Flex 32 modules, mounted in specially-designed alcoves in the front wall above and either side of the central feature housing the idols. A key operational feature of the Q-Flex modules is that their beam-steering capability is used so that they cover only the temple floor - it is a reverberant space and this assists greatly in creating intelligible sound. Low frequency reinforcement is provided by four Tannoy VSX10BP units located on the floor alongside columns and a pair of Tannoy Di5's are discreetly wall-mounted to provide main system in-fills for areas outside the coverage of the Q-Flex. Further reinforcement is given by Tannoy VLS15's mounted either side of the space while 24 Tannoy CMS501DC BM are mounted in the ceiling below the balcony. A further pair of Tannoy VLS15's are mounted on the upstairs balcony, sited to provide coverage of a specific space surrounded by a high glass safety barrier. Four Tannoy VSX10BPs provide low frequencies for the balcony area. In the Dharma Hall 12 Tannoy DVS6T are mounted in opposing pairs along the long sides. The room can be partitioned off to provide three separate spaces, each with their own sound system. A further 12 Tannoy CVS6 and four Tannoy DVS6T units are installed in and around the main building, including corridors, kitchens and outer zones. Lab.gruppen amplifiers were also supplied to power some of the new Tannoy loudspeakers installed, an E 12:2 for the Q-Flex in the main temple and four E8:2 unit for the Dharma Hall and other zones. www.music-group.com

Shortlisted Best House of Worship Qatar’s Coptic Church Middle East & Africa TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Doha, Qatar Manufacturers: Renkus-Heinz Acoustician: Techno Q As the only church of its kind in Qatar, St. Peter & St. Paul Coptic Orthodox Church is a unique landmark in the capital city of Doha. It also represented a unique acoustic challenge for Maged Amin, Head of Design - Audiovisual, for leading regional systems integrator Techno Q. With high ceilings, an interior constructed largely of marble, a mezzanine level, and a 50ft dome near the building’s entrance, St. Peter & St. Paul was beyond the reach of ordinary loudspeaker technology. The design and creation of the audio system within St. Peter & St. Paul Coptic Orthodox Church has drawn on the determination and skill of all involved. For Techno Q, and for Maged in particular, the project required great patience, as ideas that were proposed at the very beginning were left waiting until the church was ready to move forwards. Nevertheless, throughout the long development, Maged’s opinion remained steadfast - with the church facing acoustic problems that would render a regular system unusable, the best solution was the Iconyx digitally steered array from Renkus-Heinz. “During services and events the church becomes very crowded and there is a lot of noise in the back, so it becomes

very difficult to cover the entire area evenly,” explained Maged. “Also, the interior is marble with high ceilings and the very high dome. It’s a very challenging environment. We ran a lot of simulations, working closely with RenkusHeinz, and we had to convince the clients that we had the right plan. From the church’s point of view, they were investing in technology that was new to them.” Following a commissioning phase that saw substantial collaboration between Techno Q and Renkus-Heinz, the strategy has now paid off. The church benefits from two Iconyx IC24-R-II arrays, covering the main ground floor worship area, while a further two IC8-R-II arrays serve the upper balcony area. “We deployed beam steering in such a way that the coverage avoids the dome and still successfully reaches the rear seating,” commented Norbert Bau, Renkus-Heinz Sales Manager for the Middle East. “After we’d finished, a representative of the church came to listen to the results. He walked from the rear of the church to the front, and as he did so he started smiling. Then he asked what kind of magic we had done!” “Renkus-Heinz gives you the flexibility to adjust performance and coverage,” concluded Maged. “I was very happy with the results. It’s a very high-end solution.” www.renkus-heinz.com

Shortlisted - Best House of Worship Comunidad Apostólica Hosanna Church Americas TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Panama, USA Manufacturers: Elation Professional Distributor: Michael Garrison Associates Lighting/Visual Designer, Acoustician, Installer: Michael Garrison Associates Comunidad Apostólica Hosanna (CAH) is a large evangelical Christian church in Panama City, Panama, that is unique for several reasons. With Sunday services attracting well over 12,000 practitioners and operating its own TV division, CAH has grown to become one of Central America’s more influential mega-churches. Design and systems integration company Michael Garrison Associates (MGA) were called on to create a comprehensive conceptual design for the renovation of the church and chose Elation Professional lighting and video products to realise the project. CAH selected a comprehensive design for the renovation of the facility that included construction of a new, multi-level stage along with the design and integration of all new audio, video and lighting systems. Such an extensive audiovisual renovation is fairly uncommon in Panama and CAH is one of the first venues of its kind in the country with this level of installation. Randy Garabedian, Senior AVL Consultant at MGA, designed and installed the new lighting system, which consists of Colour Pendant colour-changing LED downlights, Opti Tri White variable white LED PAR lights, SixPar Series LED PAR colour changers, and Platinum Spot III LED colour and graphics moving heads. “The intention of the lighting installation was to upgrade to a new ‘production style’ of lighting,” he stated. The lighting system was only part of the visual upgrade. A new video system features four LED video screens made up of Elation EZ6 LED video display panels and has changed the feel of the room completely. Yani González, AVL Department Supervisor at Hosanna Vision, explains the reasons for choosing to work with MGA and Elation. “About two years before we met MGA, we purchased an LED video screen directly from a manufacturer in China. This turned out to be a poor choice for us, as it took months of time and effort for our engineers to get the screen operational. So when we found MGA and learned that they would not only fully install the audio, video and lighting equipment but that they would also provide onsite warranty support services, we were more than happy to give that responsibility to them.” www.elationlighting.com

Winner - Best House of Worship The Church of St Bernadette Europe

TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Lourdes, France Manufacturers: APG, Powersoft Installer: Ace Event, Grandmougin Conseils, BLEV Organisation APG has recently completed a milestone installation in an iconic church situated in what is arguably the most important place for Christians worldwide: The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes. Built in 1988, the Church of St Bernadette is the most recent addition to Lourdes’ three main sanctuaries, and the biggest church in France. Following a series of comments from preachers officiating in the church, which can accommodate 5,000 worshippers and 350 wheelchairs, the historical Lourdes team of audiovisual engineers - namely Gilbert Noël, Denis Argentière and Daniel Pinout - decided that it was time for an audio upgrade that would live up to expectations. APG has been providing the outdoor sound reinforcement right across the sacred site for as much as 25 years. “We get extreme temperature variations in this region, from scorching summer days to freezing winter nights. It’s quite amazing to think that we only ever had to replace a handful of diaphragms from the 80+ APG speakers over the years,” commented Lourdes audiovisual technician, Daniel Pinout. The robustness and audio quality of APG’s old speakers left such a great impression that, according to Daniel, a competitor who visited the site confided in him with humour that it was “very urgent to do nothing” with the outdoor sound. This reliability probably also helped to tip the scales in favour of the French manufacturer when the Lourdes audiovisual team received the green light to upgrade the Church of St Bernadette. The audiovisual team enrolled consulting firm Gamba Acoustique who applied a series of acoustical measurements in order to describe the different principles and sonic solutions for this complex venue. Many proposals were received, and only two were shortlisted. It was Biarritzbased ACE Event who won the contract by going the extra mile. Enter BLEV Organisation‘s Founder and Director, Bruno Le Vacon. An eminent figure in the pro-audiovisual industry in France, Bruno was hired as project manager to ensure the successful audio deployment of the Church of St Bernadette. The Church of St Bernadette presented very specific sonic challenges, and therefore required an equally specific electroacoustic system according to Bruno. “The Church can host Christian rock orchestras, choirs, traditional masses and gospel concerts, sometimes all in the same day, so the key words for the selected sound system really were flexibility and versatility. The architecture of the Church is also a typical, it is a wide scenic space so we were looking for powerful speakers with a wide and constant coverage, as well as great intelligibility regardless of where you are standing.” Indeed, the church has many configurations depending on usage: it can be used in its entirety or divided into two to make use of two areas simultaneously. Both parts can then also be reduced, thanks to heavy curtains situated at the back of the church. The consultants advocated a system that would not only be flexible but also evolve to host more front fills or bass cabinets depending on the requirements. Finally, because it runs from 7am to 11pm every day, the speakers had to be extremely reliable. The system installed by ACE Event comprises 30 APG Uniline UL210D cabinets mounted on the ceiling in hangs of three and split evenly between the two sanctuary sections. Everything is connected via Dante and a digital mixing console, with automatic zonal configurations by pressing a single button. A new control room was constructed at the back of the Benedictine sanctuary with the remaining backline equipment staying in the old control room which overlooks the sanctuary. It comprises four Powersoft Ottocanali 12K4 amplifiers, three APG DMS48 digital processors and a Furman M-10Lx power conditioner. Inevitably, the success of a project is evaluated on the end result, and everyone is enthusiastic. Daniel commented: “We now have great intelligibility and the coverage is very wide and even throughout. There were other proposals with a much larger number of clusters but seeing that ACE Event achieved what they have with such a small quantity of speakers, the APG system has definitely exceeded expectations.” www.apg.audio

Shortlisted - Best Nightlife Venue Bellota Restaurant Americas TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: San Francisco, USA Manufacturer and Acoustician: Meyer Sound Distributor and Installer: PCD Architect: Sagan Piechota Architecture Lighting/Visual Designer: Revolver Design Noted as The Absinthe Group’s ‘biggest’ and ‘best’ restaurant by the San Francisco Chronicle, Bellota, the elegant new Spanish restaurant in San Francisco is said to celebrate Spanish cuisine in a ‘very vibrant way’. Designed by Sagan Piechota Architecture, the restaurant’s rustic craftsmanship and elegant sound transforms the 5,400 sq ft space into a welcoming, and refined atmosphere. Because sound was a priority, Bellota installed a Meyer Sound Constellation acoustic system, which is leading the industry in providing creative solutions to restaurant noise. Constellation is a key component in the design of the Spanish-inspired Bellota, located in San Francisco’s popping SoMa district. The 170-seat restaurant is built in an airy former warehouse space where diners can observe Bellota’s acclaimed executive chef Ryan McIlwraith making paellas and grilled meats in an open kitchen. At the heart of Bellota’s Constellation system is a D-Mitri digital audio platform housing the patented VRAS acoustical algorithm, which works in conjunction with 24 miniature cardioid microphones, 34 UP-4XP loudspeakers, and 12 MM-10XP subwoofers. Six Stella-8C installation loudspeakers cover the private dining room, where a sound-absorptive Libra acoustic image system bearing a photograph of flamenco dancers reduces reverberation. In the lounge, a system of two UP-4XP loudspeakers and one 500-HP subwoofer provides sound reinforcement for live music played on a grand piano, which is also distributed at appropriate volume levels throughout the dining room via Constellation. “You can go into some restaurants where it’s so loud you can’t hear yourself talk,” said Jonny Raglin, who managed the Bellota project for The Absinthe Group, sitting at the U-shape bar of Bellota, which features a glowing open kitchen and black casks of sherry and sangria above the bar. “Or you can be in a place that’s so quiet and lonely you don’t feel like you’re part of the action. Those are the polar ends. We wanted to find the best of both worlds and be able to control it.” www.meyersound.com

Shortlisted - Best Nightlife Venue JEWEL Americas TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Las Vegas, USA Manufacturers: Ayrton, Robe, Avolites, Desisti, ROE, Absen, Kvant, L-Acoustics, QSC Architect: Shaun Yauch, BWA Lighting / Visual Designer: Frank Murray, Chris Kmiec, Audiotek / Jerry Klint, James Algate, and Derek Silverstein, Hakkasan Group / Andy Taylor, Gasoline Design Sound Designer: Chris Kmiec, Audiotek Audiovisual Consultant: Frank Murray, Chris Kmiec, Mags Morton and Len Bolger, Audiotek Installer: Nevin Edwards, Joe Garcia Miranda, National Technology Associates Interior Designer: Shaun Sullivan, Rockwell After seeing the capabilities and successes of past projects including OMNIA nightclub in Las Vegas and San Diego, and Hakkasan nightclub at MGM Grand, Hakkasan Group felt it was a natural decision to bring the teams who they worked with back on board to create its latest venture, JEWEL, located in the Aria Resort & Casino, Las Vegas. There’s a real synergy between interior designer, Rockwell led by Shaun Sullivan, Frank Murray, Chris Kmeic, Mags Morton and Len Bolger at Audiotek, architect Shaun Yauch of BWA and Nevin Edwards from local integrators, NTA. “Ed Shaw, Video Director at Hakkasan Group wanted to integrate the lighting and video elements into a cohesive unit,” said Chris. And the design of this started to come together thanks to Ayrton’s Dream Panel Twin, which was launched at Prolight+Sound in Frankfurt, earlier this year. Using both sides of the 54 Dream Panel Twin - installed in a grid formation behind the DJ - to construct a kinetic video wall. The ceiling feature consists of a virtual coffer dome, which was

constructed in concentric ovals rings highlighted by ROE Hybrid 15S LED tiles. Rockwell added a number of mirrored rings within the video structures to enhance the visual impact and maximise the output. Commisioned by Audiotek, Gasoline Design’s Andy Taylor explained further: “The Ayrton Cosmopix were our next choice, but we realised they could only really be used to their full potential if they were floating in mid-air and not just wildly spinning about at ceiling height. In this space, having them drop down on the Desisti Pantographs adds a pretty impressive gag, filling the whole room above and below them with beams.” Once the two main features were in place, it was a case of filling in the details. Around the central ceiling oculus there is a ring of eight Robe Pointes and a ring of eight Robe DL4X moving heads. For control, an Avolites package comprising a Sapphire Touch plus a Sapphire Touch Wing, as well as a Quartz and a trio of Titan Net processors was chosen. Chris continued: “As the project developed and it became apparent there was going to be a single operator for video and lighting, this cemented our decision, as the console could provide seamless integration between lighting and the Ai video servers.” The same team was also charged with designing and specifying the audio set-up. Collectively, about 12 months were spent researching different manufacturers and the new products that were coming to market. Chris said: “We are big fans of the L-Acoustics brand and for our large-scale projects it is currently our most popular choice. We have a superb relationship with L-Acoustics and find their support and commitment to quality and design beyond reproach.” The main system is based around two five-wide arrays of L-Acoustics ARCS II, placed either side of the DJ. The fills are a combination of L-Acoustics 12XTi and 8XTi cabinets, while low end for the entire system is provided by L-Acoustics SB28 subwoofers. LA4 and LA8 amplified controllers from the manufacturer power the system. James concluded: “JEWEL fits perfectly into our portfolio of nightclubs in Las Vegas both in capacity but it also allows us to offer a more intimate type of nightclub experience for our guests, which in turn helps diversify our offerings in this market.” www.audiotekinternational.com

Shortlisted Best Nightlife Venue My Way Americas TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Mexico City, Mexico Manufacturers: DTS, Compulite, Visual Productions, JBL, BSS, Crown, Adamson, Powersoft Lighting/Visual Designer, Acoustician: Ricardo Flores / Luis Angel Diaz, RFDesign Installer: RFDesign Despite only opening earlier this year, My Way has really set the standard, with a truly phenomenal lighting and visual installation, along with a state-of-the-art audio system, that catches the attention of the nightclub’s many visitors. Inside, the club is split into three main areas - the bar, the cube and the dancefloor - along with the terraces. Each of the zones within My Way has its own distinct style, which is something that had to be taken into consideration by Ricardo Flores, the Director of RFDesign, who was the Project Manager for the whole installation. A wide range of DTS moving heads were used to deliver dynamic lighting of the main areas. Overall, there are 30 JACK moving heads fixed to the wall along the perimeter of the cube, which is one of the main attractions inside the venue. The use of DTS fixtures allows the design to come to life, with their projections creating a series of luminous geometries to a spectacular effect. Elsewhere, there are 23 MAX moving heads and 10 NICK NRG 1201 fixtures are hanging above the dancefloor, which colour the entire area for the ideal atmosphere for My Way. For the lighting control, Compulite Vector lighting consoles

were installed, which had been used before by Ricardo on previous projects. For both the motor and lighting control, CueLux Pro software, a console-like software made by Visual Productions, was used, which offers incredible precision for motor control. When it came to the audio install, the systems were all based on the needs of each specific area, so the three main areas all had separate audio installs. In the bar area, RFDesign installed their own custom-made five-way audio system, which is comprised of systems that were developed by Richard Long in the seventies and eighties and Gary Stewart in recent years. The system has manual control for super-high frequencies and, at the front end, there is a Bozak AR-6 mixer, along with an EQ-6 equaliser and Pioneer CD players. For the cube, a JBL Professional Marquis Dance Club Series system was installed across the whole floor, delivering a powerful, electrifying sound that is well suited to the club setting. The setup also features BSS Soundweb London processing and Crown amplifiers for power. Within the main dancefloor area, which is the largest section in My Way, the sound had to be perfect. This led Ricardo to choose a system from Adamson, with additional super-high frequencies via JBL Professional tweeters, Lake processors and amplification from Powersoft. My Way has established itself as one of the most prestigious nightlife venues in the country and has already become a reference for it use of sophisticated audio, lighting and video systems. www.dts-lighting.com

Winner - Best Nightlife Venue Dragonfly APAC

TECHNICAL DETAILS Location: Jakarta, Indonesia Manufacturers: Clay Paky, Ayrton, LEDSCONTROL, Madrix Architect: Bitte Design Studio Lighting/Visual Designer: LEDSCONTROL Installer: LEDSCONTROL Dragonfly by Ismaya Group, which opened 12 years ago, is one of Jakarta’s hot spots and is still well known as one of the leaders in the entertainment industry in Indonesia. The interior at Dragonfly carries an Asian influence throughout, using wood and marble to invigorate the venue with an organic look. This interior was recently jazzed up with an exciting kinetic lighting effect using Clay Paky Mythos and Ayrton Magic Panels, as well as a gentle array of LED screens at the back of a bar, which can be opened from the middle to give a theatrical touch to the venue. With modern décor and a high ceiling, Dragonfly fulfils its purpose as a chillout lounge and bar in the early evening, before transforming into a red-hot party venue late at night Along the venue, the walls are created with rectangular panels in a curved shape with a laser-cut, unique pattern backlighted with more than 700metres of RGBW LED tape - all of which plays an important role during the night. Gradients of tones and multiple light patterns controlled by Madrix evolve as the party-goers experience the night. With the kinetic ceiling, multiple compositions can be made with the 500 custom-made RGBW light bulbs and smoke finish diffuser - sometimes bringing the ceiling close to the guests to create a soft and intimate atmosphere when needed. “It was a delightful creative process. An unbeatable combination working closely with our client, who had a clear vision since the beginning, open to hear our ideas and fearless to new technologies,” said Rebeca Sánchez Pastor, Managin Director of LEDSCONTROL. “An excellent interior design team which let us participate from the beginning, listening to our crazy ideas and adapting their designs to facilitate the installation and future maintenance without affecting the essence of the project. One of our main aims was to respect and highlight the architecture, adding the right number of lighting fixtures and technology to transform the place without losing the ambience. We had the opportunity to design, supply, install, program, train and maintain to ensure a good performance and long life to the venue.” https://ledscontrol.com

Let’s master it.

Our Winners Gregory Dapanse APG - Winner of Best House of Worship “ We are very proud to have received our first international award, from a leading entertainment technology publication. This installation in Lourdes is the perfect example of APG’s knowhow using high-performance products, but it also is a fantastic recognition to the stellar work of our partners and integrators, and a great testimonial of the support are able to provide to integrators for complex projects. We are looking forward to the next edition of the mondo*dr Awards, an industry event that is set to become a must attend.”

Francesco Fanicchi Powersoft - Winner of Best Sporting Venue “We are very pleased to have received the award for Best Sporting Venue at the first edition of the mondo*dr Awards. We hope this award brings luck to both mondo*dr magazine - a leading publication for all readers interested in major fixed install projects worldwide - and to us at Powersoft. This award is proof that by bringing innovation and passion to the industry, our company is going in the right direction.”

Rebeca Sánchez Pastor LEDSCONTROL - Winner of Best Nightlife Venue “It is very satisfying to be recognised for your work, which for us is our passion. Thank you very much to those who thought we deserved this. You encourage us to give our best every day.”

Lars Heinrich Kling & Freitag - Winner of Best Performance Venue “At Kling & Freitag we are all very proud of the project. The Harbin Grand Theatre was a great project and without the strength of our distribution partner Shanghai MYC we couldn’t realise projects like this in China. MYC is doing such a great work and we are looking forward to the upcoming projects to deliver the best sound systems made in Germany to the people in China.”

Mary-Beth Henson L-Acoustics - Winner of Best Integrated Resort “What a great experience to be among the very first winners of the mondo*dr Awards for the L-Acoustics installation of an L-ISA 360° sound system at the Puy du Fou theme park! The evenining was convivial and celebratory, and a great way to mingle with industry peers and friends off the show floor and in a cosy atmosphere.”

mondo*dr Awards in the media #mondodrawards

Uli Haug Fohhn “We were delighted that the Opéra Bastille installation was shortlisted for an award. This was an immense project with the most stringent demands for highest levels of music and voice reproduction. The acoustic challenges presented by the venue tested the full capability of our Focus Modular beam steering systems, our AIREA digital audio network- and controller technology, not to mention the architectural factors that needed careful consideration in order to avoid having stacks of speakers in full view. Bringing everything together under a centralised, networked control system also required a great deal of planning. We would therefore like to thank everyone involved in this installation, especially system integrator SILENCE!, our French partner Rock-Audio Distribution and our in-house planning team.”

Sarah RushtonRead Fifth-Estate “The mondo*dr Awards was a well attended, fun event that celebrated some very interesting projects around the world that I might not otherwise have known about. Even better - I met a number of new international contacts at the event and as a result heard about a number of very interesting ongoing projects.”

Peter Peck Wharfdale Pro “It was a great idea and really well executed. We left the party inspired by some of the incredible installations and it’s our goal to get on the nomination list for next year.”

David Glaubke Harman Professional Solutions “The excellence and quality put into the mondo*dr publication is carried through to this awards event, which will most certainly become one of the most coveted and prestigious of the year for our industry.
