CASE STUDY

Morgan P&O Oceana

Working alongside London-based interior design practice RPW Design, Morgan was recently tasked with creating a refreshed, contemporary and comfortable environment for passengers aboard P&O Oceana.

Along with being aesthetically pleasing, furniture needed to be lightweight and have a compact footprint, allowing spaces to be easily reconfigured throughout a voyage. To meet these demands, RPW Design specified the Katerina Zachariades-designed Goodwood lounge chairs for the Explorers Bar on deck 5.

The calming white and sapphire palette complements a background of retro dark greens and earthy browns to create a relaxing atmosphere. Elsewhere, the loyalty desk now features a combination of neutral-toned Siena swivel chairs and Havana lounge chairs, both of which use CMHR reflex foam. Warm timber detailing and frames are accentuated by the carpet’s colourful, geometric pattern.

“With the growing popularity of holidays on the water and visual social media, the ‘luxurisation’ of the cruise industry is being reflected in maritime décor,” comments Simon Fleming, Senior Account Director at Morgan. “Expectations are high and operators are challenged to provide a level of sophistication comparable to that offered by land-based hoteliers and venues.”

He adds: “Since cruise interiors tend to be used both day and night, unlike in their onshore counterparts, the accommodation is often the attraction, so furniture plays an even greater role on the sea.”

Alongside its standard collections, the contract furniture designer provides a bespoke service that offers customers the chance to tailor their products in order to meet the specific requirements of a project. From minor dimension changes, bespoke unholstery and custom finishes, right through to the creation of an entirely custom-made piece, the British manufacturer can create items that cater to the demands of any design brief. www.morganfurniture.co.uk

Hepp Talia

The slim, graceful design of Hepp’s Talia cutlery line embodies both natural elegance and well thought-out design language. For special accents, the collection is also available in different surface treatments – with its distinctive length, Talia’s slender design can be made even more striking with the addition of a copper PVD coating. Meanwhile, the PVD gun metal coating transforms the range, highlighting its subtle Asian features. www.hepp.de

Janus et Cie Anatra Modular Seating

Patricia Urquiola has introduced modular seating to Janus et Cie’s Anatra collection, along with two new lounge chair designs. Sophisticated and intricately designed, the lounge elements are constructed using the same textured rope braiding as the other seating pieces in the range, wrapping the frame to create a harmonious weave. Anatra’s seven modular pieces allow for numerous sofa configurations and are furnished by cushions for maximum comfort in outdoor spaces. The Anatra Teak High Back Lounge Chair – a unique interpretation of the collection’s signature open, handwoven rope and deep, rich hues – juxtaposes Anatra’s naturally dark shades with a honey-toned premium teak frame. Moreover, a petite version of the classic lounge chair is ideal for smaller spaces. Rope finishes include Cadet with a platinum or cyan cross weave and Oxford with a nickel or cyan cross weave, while the powder-coated aluminium tables can be paired with a choice of two sleek tabletops: a cool textured Alabama ceramic or a classic Carrara Marble. www.janusetcie.com
