The lifestyle hotels category has grown significantly in recent years, with such concepts catering to every aspect of a guest’s way of life, above and beyond the basic bed-and-board offer. This approach has increasingly caught the attention of the transport sector, leading to a new range of vehicles that are suited to both city commutes and country adventures.
One of the first to market, expected in 2022, is the aptly-named Lifestyle Vehicle, a highly versatile, fully-electric car described as a ‘loft on wheels’. Conceived by Canoo, a Los Angeles-based mobility technology company, the multi-tasking vehicle has the interior space of a large SUV with the exterior footprint of a compact car. Signature headlights serve as core brand identifiers along with a muscular profile and wraparound street view window that extends overhead, while the interiors maximise space owing to the omission of an engine compartment.
Built to a high specification, the spacious cabin – measuring 188ft3 – is large enough to stretch out in, with the premium model seating up to seven people. A 17-speaker audio system and ambient lighting completes the offer, and addons include a wellness package that enhances air quality, attacks odours and kills viruses.
The Lifestyle Vehicle comes in four models – with the Adventure version including a roof rack – and prices range from US$34,750 to US$49,950 in line with Canoo’s accessible-toall policy. The company has also developed The Pickup Truck for work and weekend featuring an extendable flatbed, and The Multi-Purpose Delivery Vehicle for commercial customers. “It’s no longer a question of whether America will go EV – but when,” explains Tony Aquila, CEO and Executive Chairman of Canoo. “Our line-up is future-forward and succeeds where others have struggled; giving people the EV that works smarter for them at a price that can work for their budgets. We are designing for people who work hard, play hard and need something reliable, that will last and give value.”
