RIP Jared Leto Man Bun

There’s a really ridiculous trend that has finally been laid to rest. After years of Jared Leto looking like the poor man’s Jesus, Jared Leto has done the unthinkable. He finally cut his hair, leaving that god-­‐awful man bun behind. People are speculating that the the cut was in preparation for his role in DC Comic’s Suicide Squad. But perhaps he wanted to be rid of the man bun simply once and for all.

Jared first sported the man bun a the Golden Globes in 2014, where he won for best supporting role Dallas Buyers Club. He then upgraded the look, letting his glorious mane roam free, to present an award at the 2015 Oscars. His beautiful locks, be it man bun or flowing, truly became his signature. It’s unfortunate that, just as men were finally getting the hang of the man bun, Jared decided to let it go.

A hair bun, in itself, isn’t so bad. Buns are actually quite functional. The problem is the phenomenon that occurred as a result of this bun. The man bun truly began to take on a life of it’s own with entire Buzzfeed articles, fashion spreads, and YouTube tutorials devoted completely to this bun. The world was totally and utterly obsessed with this bun. Eventually the man bun trend just went too far. You had guys who would pull their hair into a ridiculous topknot, and they almost always looked like they tried too hard. By comparison, you have those who don’t have any hair at all, desperately trying to be a hipster and to achieve the man bun, but falling way short.

Guys like this ruin it for the forefathers of this style. The style was originally representative of the sensitive, emotionally available types. But now, it just looks like corny guys who are trying way too hard to fit in with all of the top fashion magazines. Thank God Jared finally came to his senses. Who are we kidding, if Jared hadn’t been booked in Suicide Squad, he would probably still be rocking the man bun. But you’ve still got to give the man credit. At least he had sense enough to mourn the loss, let it go, and move on. RIP man bun.
