GAUGE: 1 Square = about 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 in. (6.5 x 6.5 cm). 23 hdc = about 4 in. (10 cm) with A. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from

person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch STITCH EXPLANATION: Cl (cluster) Yarn over, insert hook in indicated st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (2 loops rem on hook), *yarn over, insert hook in same st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook; rep from * 5 more times, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook. NOTES: 1. Wrap is made from 64 Squares and a Collar. 2. Squares are worked in 3 rnds. The first rnd is worked with A and remaining 2 rnds are worked with a color from B or C, so that 4 squares are made with each color in B and C. 3. Collar is worked back and forth in rows. 4. Squares are arranged into a rectangle and sewn tog for Wrap. Collar is sewn to one long edge of Wrap. Ties are worked onto completed Wrap.

Fasten off. COLLAR With A, ch 30. Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (2 skipped ch count as first hdc) and in each ch across – 29 hdc. Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), turn, working in back loops only, hdc in each st across. Rep Row 2 until piece measures about 40 in. (101.5 cm) from beg. Fasten off. FINISHING Sew Squares into 4 strips of 16 Squares each, arranging the different colored Squares as desired. Sew long edges of strips tog to make Wrap. Sew one long edge of Collar to one long edge of Wrap. Ties (make 2) From RS, holding 2 strands of yarn tog, join A with sl st at right front edge at base of Collar. *Chain for about 25 in. (63.5 cm). Cut one of the 2 strands, leaving a long tail to weave in later, continue with rem strand only, Cl in 4th ch from hook. Fasten off.
