CITY OVERVIEW BERLIN
Berlin is a capital and the largest city of Germany. Berlin straddles the banks of the River Spree. City has a layout typical
of European cities, with the main square and river
crossing the city. After World War II and its occupation by the victorious countries, the city was divided. West Berlin became a de facto West German enclave, surrounded by the Berlin Wall (1961–1989) and East German territory. East Berlin was declared capital of East Germany, while Bonn became the West German capital. Following fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Berlin once again became the capital of all of Germany.
Berlin has a temperate continental climate. Summers are warm and humid with average high temperatures of 22–25 °C . Winters are cool with average high temperatures of 3 °C and lows of −2 to 0 °C. Spring and autumn are generally chilly to mild. Berlin is a world city of culture, politics, media and science. Y ou will find here the abundance of palaces, monuments, architectural treasures, museums and witnesses of history, art galleries. Berlin is a very green city too, with many old parks and gardens.

HOW TO GET THERE? BY PLANE Berlin has 2 international airports: Tegel Airport (TXL) is within the city limits. Takes Lufthansa and Eurowings . SchĂśnefeld Airport (SXF) is just outside Berlin's south-eastern border. Main destination for airlines like Germania, easyJet and Ryanair . Both have good connection with city center Mitte. If you are travelling within Europe with budget airlines, you are more likely to land on SXF. www.skyscanner.com
BY TRAIN Long-distance rail lines connect Berlin with all of the major cities of Germany and with many cities in neighbouring European countries. The Berlin Hauptbahnhof is the largest railway station in Europe. Intercity-Express high speed trains run to destinations l i k e: Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Stuttgart, Frankfurt am Mai n and others. As well as several international destinations like Vienna, Prague, ZĂźrich, Warsaw, Budapest and Amsterdam .
BY CAR German and Berlin's transport infrastructure is highly complex. Motorways (Autobahn) are free. Remember: you need an environmental badge for you car because the centre of Berlin is a environmental zone in which only vehicles that meet certain emission standards are allowed to be driven. You can order stickers for vehicles online at www.umwelt-plakette.de P+R Parking If you do not want to drive in Mitte you can live you car on P+R parking, located next to metro/train stations with easy access to the city.
