“Miroir d’Eau” (Mirror Fountain). We spent the evening and morning wandering around Bordeaux before heading off to the neighbouring wine area and hilltop village of Saint-Émilion.

The overnight in Rouen meant we could do a walking tour of the old town, and then stay on to try out a local restaurant and do some shopping into the evening. Brest in the Brittany region is very historical with excursions to Quimper the oldest village in France; and the village of Locronan which dates from 6th Century and the Celts. From Honfluer we visited the British D-Day landing beaches, Bilbao, Spain the Guggenheim Art Museum.

Fitting in a short end of year holiday in October 2022, Cherryl Browne, General Manager Cruise World and her son, cruised for the first time with Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines.

WE embarked on a 10-night voyage ex Dover to the coast of France and the Basque region of Northern Spain which included sailing the Gironde Estuary and Garonne River to Bordeaux, the Seine river to Rouen and down the coast to Bilbao, Spain. Our ship the Fred. Olsen Balmoral at only 45,537 tonnes, and sailing with less than 1000 passengers, is well suited for this type of coastal and river waterway cruising.
