Caterpillar Classroom News 5-4-3-2-1 BLAST OFF! The children in the caterpillar room had fun this week pretending to be astronauts blasting off into space in a cardboard rocket ship! We sang songs and read books to learn about the planets. We played "Ring Around the Planets " and color matched stars to planets. We created stars, planets, rocket ships and space murals for our bulletin board and windows. We also celebrated Sawyer ' s birthday!

Birds of a Feather Looking to spend some fun time with your kids and stumped as to what to do??? Try building a simple bird feeder!! To attract more feathered friends to your yard, here are two quick ideas for DIY bird feeders. You'll need birdseed, peanut butter, empty toilet paper rolls or cut-up empty paper towel rolls, an orange or a grapefruit, and twine. To make the first feeder, sprinkle birdseed on a container that has a rim, like plate or pie tin. Help your child spread a thin layer of peanut butter on the outside of the paper rolls, then have him roll the peanut butter coating in the birdseed until it's well covered. Slip the feeders right over tree branches or use twine to hang them up. You can make two feeders from an orange. (You can also use a grapefruit.) Parent prep-work: Cut the fruit in half and carefully scoop out the fruit, leaving plenty of thick rind. Use a skewer to poke a small hole in opposite sides of each orange half, about a half inch from the top.
Then thread a long piece of twine through both holes, and knot the ends of the twine together to make a hanger. Help your child combine the peanut butter and birdseed and spoon the mixture into each orange half. Hang it up outside. Vacation Day Request Form Must be turned in one week prior to requested vacation days
Today’s Date: ______________________________
Child’s Name:_______________________________ Parent’s Name: _____________________________
Date(s) requesting for vacation: ___________________________________________ VACATION DAYS/ EXTENDED LEAVE POLICY: Parents will receive five (5) days of vacation after six months of continuous care at PDO. Vacation days will renew each year on January 1st. You are not required to pay for these days.
A Vacation Day Request Form must be filled out and turned into the office one week prior to requesting vacation days. These forms can be found in the office. In the event of an extended leave of absence (a period greater than two weeks), families will forfeit their 5 days of vacation. If you choose to have your child take an unpaid leave of absence (i.e. summer vacation) you will then run the risk of losing your child’s spot in the classroom. Unpaid spots will not be held throughout the summer or any other extended period. We cannot guarantee that there will be availability in your child’s classroom after an unpaid leave of absence. If you do not want to risk losing your child’s spot, you are responsible for paying tuition during the leave of absence whether your child attends the center or not. Families that are on a wait list or wish to enroll will fill unpaid spots in classrooms. Families returning and re-enrolling after an extended leave of absence are required to pay a discounted registration fee of $25 upon re-enrollment. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------For office use only: Received: __________________________________ Approved: _________________________________
