The Passport to Retirement workshop covers important money management concepts and educates attendees on how to potentially overcome the roadblocks to a successful retirement. She has been designing herb and old-fashioned perennial gardens for decades and uses her harvest to teach many creative classes. Creativity is absolutely not required as Carolsue helps each student step by step.

Potpourri Making

We will make three huge boxes of potpourri including Spiced Rum, Egyptian Rose and Lavender and each student will take home a big bag of each. You'll also receive a packet of Carolsue's favorite potpourri recipes you can make for years as gifts or to cheer up rooms of your home. The VEX Robotic team provides students 3rd grade through high school the opportunity to learn about competitive robotics as part of a community team. Students can participate year round (fall, winter, and spring/summer) with new contests and projects being implemented annually. Students will gain an introduction to mechanical, electrical, programming, and CAD design, while keeping track of individual progress through an engineering notebook. Students also develop additional skills including multimedia marketing, team building, time management and public speaking. The curriculum is provided by Training on Prevention Services (TOPS) and The National Parent Academy (NPA), a service organization providing training and prevention services since 2005. Private Dance Lessons

Private dance lessons are available in any field of study. You must enroll in a class prior to the start date and your lessons will be attached to your class as supplementary training. You may purchase any number of lessons; however, they must be completed within the selected class dates. Private lessons are scheduled on an individual basis with consideration to the student and teacher’s availability.

Cost varies per topic. You may select either a one-time introductory class or a 6-week course to accompany your private lessons. Private lessons may not be purchased separate from the course. This comprehensive, 50-hour course will prepare you to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s (PTCB) exam. Course content includes: pharmacy medical terminology, the history of pharmacy, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions, and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Through classroom lecture and handson labs, you will review instruction on dosage calculations, drug classifications, the “top 200 drugs,” I.V. flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, the handling of sterile products, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, and billing and reimbursement.

Clinical Medical Assistant Program

Prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare. This course will train you to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle. You will review important topics, including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology (including proper lead placements), professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national exam.

Clinical Externship: In addition to classroom and labs, this course includes a clinical externship through a local pharmacy. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be eligible to participate in an 80-hour clinical externship with a local retail pharmacy. Dental Assisting Program

Our dental assisting program will prepare you for entry-level positions in one of the fastest growing health care positions. The purpose of this course is to familiarize you with all areas of preclinical dental assisting and provide training in the professional skills required to function as an assistant in the dental practice. The following key areas are included: Administrative aspects including the history of dentistry and dental assisting; introduction to the dental office; the legal aspects of dentistry, and policies and guidelines. Improving the safety of motorcyclists on our roads is our primary goal. As part of the Detroit Metro Motorcycle Safety Consortium, we offer handson, comprehensive motorcycle safety training in a safe and comfortable environment. Our classes are taught by professional certified instructors who not only have a passion for riding, but riding safety. State funds from a motorcycle safety grant administered by the Michigan Department of State and federal funds from the michigan Office Highway Safety and Planning support this program. For your protection, all motorcycle courses required you to have the following: •

DOT-approved helmet (still required for all classes, even though the helmet law has changed)

Long sleeve jacket or heavy shirt

Heavy duty long pants

Eye protection – goggles or glasses (required even with a face shield helmet)

Returning Rider Course (RRC) This is a one-day course designed for the experienced but unlicensed rider to become licensed and legal. Many experienced, licensed riders use this course as a refresher and skills tune up. Topics include: braking, counter steering, turning, speed judgment and other techniques necessary for the experienced rider to operate a motorcycle skillfully and safely. Each student must provide their own motorcycle. Scooters will be allowed in this class. Sharing is not allowed and your cycle must be titled, properly registered and display a valid license plate. Each student must provide proof of insurance and the bike must pass a safety inspection. Successful completion allows a student to waive the Secretary of State riding skills test.

Who should take the RRC class? • Those with basic motorcycle riding skills including the ability to shift, make a normal stop and basic turning. • Those with a motorcycle endorsement who are interested in refreshing and improving their basic riding skills. • Students under the age of 18 are allowed to take this course starting at age 15 if they have a valid driver's license. Basic Rider Course - Web Enhanced

Requirements: You must have a valid email address on file with the College. You must complete the online eCourse prior to your class start date and bring the completion certificate to the first class session. This class consists of approximately 18 hours of instruction – three hours of online preparation to be completed prior to your class start date, five hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of hands-on training. Designed for someone who has minimal experience operating a motorcycle, this course focuses on the development of basic riding skills: clutch and throttle coordination, straight-line riding, braking, turning, and shifting. Yogis United in Gratitude, Giving with Compassion Please join Kimberly Searl (Mind Body Balance) and Malissa Whited (Mindful Movement) for the fifth annual Namaste Day. This workshop will consist of 1.5 hours of Vinyasa yoga practice followed by short break-out sessions covering topics related to how yoga applies to life off the mat. Subjects may include: introduction to meditation and/or chanting, the chakra system, mindful eating or yin yoga. We’ll conclude with a brief panel discussion of the future of yoga in our community and an opportunity to share in a gratitude circle. The cost is $15. Proceeds will be donated to The Foundation at Monroe County Community College to support a scholarship fund. As of January 1, 2015, a student MUST have successfully passed the basic CFOT course within the preceding 12 months or have renewed their FOA membership within that time frame prior to attending the CFOS/T, CFOS/S and/or the CFOS/O FOA Specialist courses offered by BDI Datalynk. There are no exceptions. Students are encouraged to register for all courses being offered at the individual locations with the understanding that the CFOT is the prerequisite for all other courses and it must be successfully completed first prior to attending any of the other specialist courses.

This introductory three-day (approximately) Fiber Optic Technician course is designed for anyone interested in becoming a Certified Fiber Optic Technician. This fiber optic training combines theory and 85 percent hands-on activities to prepare the student to take the CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician) test that is sanctioned by the FOA (Fiber Optics Association) and given and graded the final class day. Anyone interested in becoming a Certified Fiber Optics Technician should attend this class. Course fee includes study materials, exam fees, textbook and one-year membership to the FOA. Upon successful completion of a course, a certificate and/ or transcript may be furnished if requested by the student. Grading system for Lifelong Learning courses: S

SATISFACTORY - the learner completed the course, meeting at least minimal expectations as outlined by the instructor.

N NO GRADE - the learner did not meet the minimal expectations of the instructor or did not elect to complete work necessary for obtaining a grade. W WITHDRAW - the learner formally withdrew from the class.

Cancelation of Classes

The institution reserves the right to cancel or make changes in this schedule when deemed necessary. An attempt will be made to telephone students affected. You may inquire directly about your class status by contacting the Office of Lifelong Learning.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

The primary purpose of CEUs is to provide a permanent record of the educational accomplishments of an individual who has completed a non-credit class. CEUs are especially important to those who seek to maintain a credential, such as a real estate license. One CEU is defined as 10 hours of participation in a planned continuing education experience organized under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction. CEUs do not apply toward college degree requirements.

Online Career Training Programs

( Formerly Gatlin Education Services) View the variety of open enrollment online programs at www.gatlineducation.com/mccc. Classes are designed by a team of professionals from each respective field who work to provide the most effective web-based learning experience available today. Instructors/mentors are actively involved in your online learning experience and respond to any questions or concerns, as well as motivate you to succeed. Each program includes a set of lessons and evaluations; grades are a combination of the instructor/mentor's evaluation of students' work and computer-graded tests. How Gatlin online courses work: • Begin when you wish • You are assigned an instructor for one-on-one assistance • Move at your own pace • Your work is evaluated, and 70 percent proficiency is required for a certificate of completion. • You should complete the course within 180 days, but you may request an extension if necessary. • You will receive a certificate from MCCC upon successful completion. To help you meet your educational expenses, MCCC is offering FACTS as a convenient budget plan. This is not a loan program. You have no debt, there are no interest or finance charges assessed, and there is no credit check. Enrolling online is simple, secure and easy. Down or monthly payments are deducted immediately from your account on the fifth of each month until the balance is paid in full. • Arrange for monthly payments • Make a down payment immediately and arrange for monthly payments • Automatic payments from your checking or savings account • $30 non-refundable enrollment fee (an additional $2 will be charged for full payments)

1. Register for your Lifelong Learning class(es). See inside the front cover. 2. Obtain your seven-digit student ID number as assigned by the college. If you do not know your student ID number, please contact the Office of Lifelong Learning at 734.384.4127. 3. Log on to the college’s website at www.monroeccc.edu, and click on “New Lifelong Learning Schedule – http://www.monroeccc.edu/ccs/LLSchedule/WISP17/ index.htm." 4. Click on “New Tuition Payment Plan for Select classes in this schedule” under the e-Cashier symbol. 5. Carefully read terms and conditions provided by FACTS. Then, click on “Proceed” and complete the “Personal Information” page. *NOTE: Not all Lifelong Learning classes are eligible for the tuition plan.

BASIC VEHICLE MAINTENANCE If you are a vehicle owner and want to expand your skills and knowledge of maintaining and caring for your vehicle, this class is for you.

SERVICING HYBRID VEHICLES SAFETY WORKSHOP Designed with service people and firstresponders in mind, this class will teach you how hybrid vehicles function. Hybrids require traditional vehicle maintenance as well as specialized repairs.
