And he owes it all, as it turns out, to Charlie Brown: Benoit recalls being bitten by the jazz bug after watching a Peanuts special on television. Now, more than 50 years after the classic animated special first aired, Benoit—who has been the official composer for the new Peanuts specials for over a decade—performs his own Christmas originals along with the beloved Vince Guaraldi classics. A holiday tradition at Montalvo, this festive concert is sure to delight!

Nochebuena

Christmas Eve in Mexico Thu, Dec 17, 2020 • 7:30pm Premier: $65 | Reserved: $58 “Lively holiday spectacular” — The Los Angeles Times In Mexico, Christmas is not just a single day but a whole season of Christmas-related celebrations! Today, the Christmas traditions in Mexico vary from region to region and are a blend of indigenous culture, Spanish heritage, and many other influences. Focusing on Nochebuena (Christmas Eve), this spectacular concert features an all-star cast of music and dance—the esteemed Ballet Folklórico de Los Ángeles and Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cuéllar— presenting traditions and customs that people in Mexico celebrate during the festive season.

John McCutcheon Tue, Jan 19, 2021 • 7:30pm Premier: $38 | Reserved: $34 “The most impressive instrumentalist I’ve ever heard” — Johnny Cash John McCutcheon has emerged as one of the most respected and loved folksingers of our time. Though he may have thirty-odd recordings that have garnered him seven Grammy nominations, it’s performing live on stage that McCutcheon feels most at home. With a mastery of a dozen instruments (including the rare and beautiful hammer dulcimer) complemented by “storytelling that has the richness of fine literature,” McCutcheon weaves intimate, insightful, and often hilarious canvasses on which he draws his vision of Americana. Rockapella Sat, Feb 13, 2021 • 7:30pm Premier: $60 • Reserved: $54 “Pure entertainment” — The New York Times Rockapella has become one of the world’s most sophisticated, lasting, and imitated vocal groups around today. As one of the progenitors of the astonishing fullband sound of “contemporary” a cappella, they have shown audiences the raw power of pure vocal talent and originality. Since the early ’90s, when they first achieved national television fame on PBS’s Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?, they’ve toured the globe and provided a funky powerful soundtrack to several generations of vocal music fans, while keeping it all fresh along the way. With buckets of catchy original pop songs, and complete contemporary revisions of sparkling Motown, pop, and soul classics, this group has always been the one to watch. USA Today summed up their lasting appeal: “The best musical instrument of all is the human voice—if you’ve seen Rockapella you know that’s the truth.”

Storm Large Thu, Feb 18, 2021 • 7:30pm Premier: $69 • Reserved: $64 “An intoxicating and unmissable cocktail of power and vulnerability.” — The Times Storm Large: musician, actor, playwright, author, awesome. She first shot to national prominence in 2006 as a finalist on the CBS show Rock Star: Supernova and made her debut with the band Pink Martini in 2011, singing four sold-out concerts with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center. Brady Schwind of BroadwayWorld writes: “...a high priestess of blues and rock, [...] Large has, in the decade and a half since that seminal television finale, conquered everything from symphonies to the subversive; knocking the American Songbook off its dusty pedestal and into the burning heat of rebirth in the process.” (Photo: Laura Domela)

To celebrate his life and legacy, his sons Chris and Dan Brubeck, who performed with their father for decades, will curate a multimedia show with their Brubeck Brothers Quartet. Through stories told by his sons and music performed by the Quartet, the show invites audiences to travel along the timeline of Dave’s extraordinary life and career. Although the Quartet’s style is rooted in “straight-ahead” jazz, their concerts also integrate the influences of funk, blues, and world music. Poco Thu, March 18, 2021 • 7:30pm Premier: $66 | Reserved: $61 “A landmark in country rock” — Allmusic.com It can easily be argued that Poco first created the combination of vocal harmonies, country instruments, and rock and roll rhythms that became known as country rock. These pioneers found platinum success early in their career as a band that ranks right alongside the Eagles and Buffalo Springfield. For nearly 50 years, Poco has been thrilling fans (or “Poconuts”) with hits like “Crazy Love,” “Rose Of Cimarron,” “A Good Feelin’ To Know,” and “Call It Love.” And rather than rest on any of these considerable laurels, they instead hit stages coast-to-coast armed with the kind of classic songs and instrumental chops that put performers half their age to shame. Still winning over new fans and still reaching for new challenges, Poco today is a band reborn.

The High Kings Wed, March 24, 2021 • 7:30pm Premier: $48 | Reserved: $43 “They harmonize with better precision than a world champion Irish step dancer” — BroadwayWorld The heirs of Ireland’s folk heritage, The High Kings first exploded onto the scene in 2008. Charting a brave new course for a bright new era of Irish ballad music—equal parts rousing and reflective—they sing the songs of yesteryear in a contemporary style and arrangement that remains true to the original. The High Kings boast incredible versatility and skill as multi-instrumentalists, playing 13 instruments between the four of them. Performing hundreds of sold-out shows in Ireland and the US, they beguile audiences with rousing renditions of old favorites and their own folk originals. Together, they have achieved what many had thought improbable, if not impossible: they have moved the Irish ballad tradition into the here and now, carrying along with them the steadfast older fans while simultaneously bringing it to a new audience.

For this show, he is joined on stage by two other luminaries—guitarists Peterson and Lim—for an evening showcasing Hawai‘i’s lilting and lovely folk styles, with origins in the early 19th century Hawaiian paniolo (cowboy) culture. The Capitol Steps Sat, March 27, 2021 • 4pm & 7:30pm Premier: $64 | Reserved: $57 “Funny and fresh…a machine gun of comedy” — DC Theatre Scene As The Washington Post raves, the Capitol Steps are “an oasis of good-natured ribbing in a fiercely partisan world.” Congressional staffers turned comedians, the Steps have slayed the country with their hilarious send-up of the people and institutions that once employed them. Their sketch and improvisational comedy offers a mix of song and standup, lampooning modern political leaders and taking on the major issues of the day. No issue and no public figure, Democrat or Republican, escapes the satire. (Photo: Violet Crown Photo Works)

With heavenly vocal stylings and a devilishly witty sensibility, the chanteuse “brilliantly embodies a new kind of performance art.” (The New Yorker) As The Evening Standard says, “There are not many women who can stun an audience into pin drop silence with an exquisitely delivered torch song one moment and rock the rafters with laughter the next.” Truly, nobody does it better than Meow Meow. As his English improved, Smirnoff grew in popularity and eventually moved to Los Angeles.
