Extraordinary Fact about Shelter Dogs Brought to you by Pam McCutcheon, Small Dog Realty

Did you know that between 2030% of shelter dogs are purebreds. Why you may wonder? Sometimes, owners die or get moved into rest homes, people move or have babies and it's just too much and some just don't do their homework researching the breed that they buy not knowing how much energy they have and what kind of commitment that are. People sometimes don't understand when you take in a pet, it's for their life not your convenience.

killing the female dog. Adopting ensures you that you are not supporting puppy mills.(By the way, my little Piper was a puppy mill dog that I adopted out. Do to over breeding, she has had 2 ACL surgeries as well. The folks that bought her were young and didn't know any better.) One out of every ten dogs will find a forever home. (That's not so good)

Many folks want a puppy or a young dog that are trainable. The average age of dogs nationwide in shelters are 18 months or younger. (Consider a senior dog, easy and so thankful for you every day.)

Ninety percent of shelter dogs are healthy(if not they get them healthy before adopting them out) They have all of their shots, they have been spayed or neutered and have been worked with to ensure good behavior and are ready to go. All for under $150.00. Just a basic pet visit to get up to date shots and spayed or neutered would cost a lot more than that plus the cost of a new dog! Millions of dog and cats enter the shelters nation-wide each year! Most are privately funded as well. That's a lot of dogs and cats to choose from!

Unfortunately most pet stores get their pups from puppy mills where female dogs live in small cages and have too many litters of puppies sometimes

If you have a dog already and don't have time for him, make time! It was your idea. Get up earlier, walk or run your dog, have a fenced yard with shelter or a doggie door if you are gone all day. Before you go out for a beer after work, better go home and give your dog a walk and show some love, then go out. Do the right thing!! Owning a dog will help you get into shape and studies have shown it's good for your mental health. Make a commitment to spend more time with your pup and if you are thinking about getting a dog, think adoption. Questions on where to go to find the right one?? Please email me at pam@smalldogrealty.com. I am more than happy to help! The First Friday of every month in Livingston, Small Dog Realty will be having dog adoptions between 4-6 pm. At 523 West Park in Livingston.
