Tucked against the Bridgers, the fully organic Amaltheia Dairy Farm has fields filled with goats, pigs and vegetables. This family run farm is dedicated to sustainable growing by turning the goat’s manure into compost and using the whey from the cheese to feed their pigs. We were so honored to collaborate with the Brown family to create a tabletop together during their harvest season!

We side stepped the traditional gourds and pumpkins for our harvest table and let our linen do the talking. We wanted the moody velvet turmeric linen to feel light, so we mixed it with a our modern Marble charger and weathered Tuscan china. The result? Our team is fairly certain the only thing better than pumpkin spice anything are floral designs created by Julio! His design focused talent (and that contagious smile!) always leaves our team beaming. Today we are helping you get to know the guy behind the armful of brightly colored flowers and see where his story started even before his love of florals.
MPR: While we are lucky enough to know about your story, we would love if you shared how you started your business. Julio Freitas: I started my career as a floral designer about ten years ago. I was a full time hotel manager, and while looking for a creative outlet in my job, I decided to take on Christmas Decorating for the lobby. That little step quickly translated into doing seasonal florals for the hotel as well as centerpieces for banquets and events. A few years into it, I got a job doing weekly flowers for a coffee shop. That job started bringing in more and more weddings and my schedule quickly filled up to where I couldn’t dedicate to flowers and the corporate job at the same time, so I decided to quit the hotel and dive head first into becoming a full time business owner.

MPR: What are you most proud of in regards to your business? JF: I’m proud of how much we have accomplished as a small company in such a short amount of time. The Flower Hat is a really, really small business but we’ve been able to produce some incredibly large weddings, teach workshops to attendees who come from all over the country, ship our dahlia tubers to every state in the nation, ship flower hats to customers all over the World (Russia, Brazil, Italy, Japan, New Zealand… ). It’s impressive and I’m proud to own a business that has a such a beautiful impact on people. Flowers are powerful, and it’s rewarding to be the vehicle that deliver them in one way or another. MPR: What do you love most about being an entrepreneur in Bozeman? JF: From a vendor standpoint, I love that there is such an amazing team of vendors in this valley. The amount of talented artists, from planners, to hair and makeup to photographers, to DJs, to caterers, to calligraphy and everything else in between, is astonishing and empowering. It makes my job much more gratifying knowing that I get to work with vendors that are invested in their craft. I also love the views our clients get to be surrounded with for their wedding. I think the venues in and around Bozeman provide a quintessential mountainous backdrop for a perfect “Montana” Wedding. MPR: We of course love your style so we would love to know, what is your favorite MPR rental? JF: As a florist, I love the selection of budvases available. With many weddings choosing Family Style Dinners, the budvases are a perfect option to dress up the tables without being intrusive.
