ONITSUKA TIGER COLLECTION SPRING-SUMMER 2011
BRAND HISTORY The beginning of Onitsuka Tiger In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka founded Onitsuka Tiger, the forerunner of ASICS today. Back then Mr. Onitsuka believed that through sport he could help Japan recover from the devastation of the Second World War and re-inspire a new generation of youth to benefit the country’s future society. Mr. Onitsuka passionately believed that sport not only reinforced the physical health, it also taught young people to observe rules, discipline and manners. Sport encouraged them to do their best, to understand the importance of teamwork and to realize the importance of sportsmanship and regular training. Since Onitsuka Tiger began back in 1949, it has gone on to become an iconic, global ‘sports-fashion’ brand with a unique Japanese sports heritage. Today Onitsuka Tiger represents the forward-looking face of modern, metropolitan Japan. In addition to sneakers Onisuka Tiger also offers a collection of apparel and accessories all reflecting the innovative, original spirit of the Onitsuka Tiger brand.
FASHION UNISEX OKATABI LO
OKATABI LO is based on the MARATHON TABI, Onitsuka Tiger’s first marathon shoe from 1953. The latter was inspired by the Japanese split-toe tabi socks, which are worn indoors for ceremonial events, such as traditional dances. Originally it was to consist purely of canvas with extra layers of material for the outsole. However, at the final design stage, laces, a rubber sole and a side strap for support were added. LO stands for low-cut version. Price: Size: Upper: Sole: Extras:
