Coronation Britain June 2012 marks the official 60th anniversary of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. This program documents the time span between the beginning of the young queen’s reign—with the death of King George VI—and her coronation 16 months later. She was elevated to the sovereign role in a country still depressed, suffering and broken from the aftermath of World War II, and became queen of an empire that was crumbling around her. As well as grieving for her beloved father, the young queen had to contend with a husband who had to give up his promising career for her, two small children, and conflicting advice from palace officials and politicians about how she should conduct her reign. Watch this close, personal and detailed account of the events leading up to the coronation.

Historical interviews with park rangers, Native Americans, historians and descendants of park concessionaires explain the Glacier Park adventure. For This & Future Generations: Montana’s 1972 Constitutional Convention In mid-winter 1972, 100 grassroots delegates and a staff of some of the best and brightest young people under the Big Sky, gathered in Helena for what many would recall as the proudest time of their lives. Their task: to re-write the lumbering, old state constitution. Two months later, all 100 delegates walked down the aisle of the House Chambers a nd unanimously signed a document that would affect the lives of genera tions of Montanans to come. This is the story of those 100 delegates and the tumultuous times that ignited their fervor. It is also the story of the 700,000 Montanans who charged the delegates— a group of ran chers and farmers, business people, educators, housewives, attorneys, a beekeeper, a retired librarian, a graduate student and a retired FBI agent—with the challenge of writing a legal foundation for life in the state. 30 years later, in a new century, this is the story of their legacy.

In the early ‘50s, a young army officer and a student nurse fell in love. Four decades later, they meet again by accident. Just a wrinklies’ reunion or will romance be rekindled? Judi Dench is Jean, a hardworking widow who runs a secretarial agency with her beautiful, twice-divorced daughter, Judith (Moira Brooker). Geoffrey Palmer is Lionel, a divorced ex-army officer and coffee-planter, who has returned to write his autobiography entitled “My Life in Kenya”. When Lionel becomes displeased with the temporary secretary from the agency, Judith tries to placate him and makes such a good impression that he invites her out to dinner. Inevitably, Lionel and Jean meet, with the strangest feeling they have met before. As it turns out, they enjoyed a magical but brief affair before he was posted to Korea. His letter went astray, and she never saw him again, until now. Judith is a romantic and takes an immediate interest in their precarious relationship-but a few obstacles stand in the way. Alistair, Lionel’s trendy young publisher, takes quite a fancy to Jean, and Lionel is not without his own admirers.

Airs 7pm Tuesday, June 19 Repeats 6/21 1am, 4am

The Moral Crusade/ The Scramble for Africa Airs 7pm Tuesday, June 26 Repeats 6/28 1am, 4am At the time of Queen Victoria’s birth in 1819, England was an agrarian society. Within a few short decades, this small island nation would be transformed into an industrial superpower, with an empire spanning the globe. This program is both the story of this remarkable time and an engaging portrait of a queen who ruled over a fifth of the world’s population. It is the story of influential men who would shape a distinctively British imperialism: Gladstone, Disraeli, Livingstone, Rhodes and Prince Albert, Victoria’s husband. Whether driven by profit, passion or noble deeds, these figures would fuel expansion unequaled in history, forever changing Britain and the lands it controlled. Personal accounts, lush re-enactments and evocative cinematography from former outposts of the Empire, including Africa and India, recount the dramatic clash of personalities and cultures that would drive Victoria’s remarkable 64-year reign.

Fort Peck dam spillway Airs 7pm Sunday, June 24

Fort Peck Dam In the midst of the great depression, Franklin Delano Roosevelt set the stage to build the world’s largest earthen dam, to tame the mighty Missouri river. Led by the Army Corps of Engineers and the “New Deal” Public Works Administration, construction began on the Fort Peck dam. In 1933, thousands of American families headed for the only hope of employment that they had seen in years in the badlands of Eastern Montana. Today, The Fort Peck Dam remains the largest hydraulically-filled earthen dam in the world. For 75 years it has tirelessly carried out its original missions; flood control, navigation, power generation, and recreation. But, in a more environmentally conscious age, some wish the dam had never been built. The value system that was in place when the dam was authorized gave little consideration to the destruction of natural habitats.

Cloud: Challenge of the Stallions The continuing saga of Cloud, the wild, white stallion, returns viewers to the Arrowhead Mountains of Montana. Cloud is now a confident band stallion in his prime. As he rules the mountains, gathering mares and expanding his reign, the story turns to his two sons. Bolder is his by birth—beautiful and golden, the success of his father and grandfather flowing in his veins. Flint, sired by another stallion, is the colt Cloud raised. Now, Bolder has gathered some mares of his own, while Flint has joined a group of bachelor stallions, young guns roaming the mountains. Who will rise to challenge the mighty Cloud? Will nature or nurture produce the next great stallion of the Arrowheads?
