Brought to You By ALEC  They’ve been around for four decades and are behind some of the most influential and controversial legislation in Montana and the Nation, including Electricity Deregulation, Prison Privatization and Stand Your Ground laws. Despite these high-profile successes, few Americans know anything about the American Legislative Exchange Council, also known as ALEC. The group invites legislators from all 50 states to corporatefunded conferences where they sit down with corporate representatives and lobbyists to craft legislation together. Supporters say ALEC is an invaluable networking tool that gives them the opportunity to hear how policy could impact businesses. Critics say it gives corporations unfair access and undue influence over lawmakers. Using extensive research and interviews with both critics and supporters, MontanaPBS examines how ALEC operates, their impact in Statehouses across the United States and critics’ claims that ALEC has failed to report millions of dollars spent lobbying. Airs Thursday 7/24 at 7pm

Who better to cover the Paralympics, the international sporting event for athletes with physical and intellectual disabilities, than Niko von Glasow, the world’s best-known disabled filmmaker? Unfortunately — or fortunately for anyone seeking an insightful and funny documentary — this filmmaker frankly hates sports and thinks the games are “a stupid idea.” Born with severely shortened arms, von Glasow serves as an endearing guide to London’s Paralympics competition. As he meets a one-handed Norwegian table tennis player, the Rwandan sitting volleyball team, an American archer without arms and a Greek paraplegic boccia player, his own stereotypes about disability and sports are delightfully punctured.

Constantly picking each other apart and holding on to petty slights for decades, Freddie and Stuart are always at each other’s throats, cracking snide remarks aimed at the other’s age, appearance and flaws. However, underneath their vicious, co-dependent fighting, they have a deep love for one another. Freddie and Stuart are often joined by feisty best friend Violet (Frances de la Tour, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) and Ash (Iwan Rheon, “Game of Thrones”), their young, upstairs neighbor. This program explores the history and cultural relevance of this centuries-old tradition. Several longtime participants explain why they run in a race with a well-earned reputation for causing serious injury, and even death.

Running of the Bulls Airs 8pm Wednesday, July 9 Each July, during the eight-day festival of San Fermin, thousands participate in one of the most dangerous and adrenalinecharged events in the world — the running of the bulls. This frantic sprint through the narrow, cobblestoned streets of Pamplona amounts to little more than 900 yards, and lasts roughly three minutes, but each moment brims with intensity and excitement. RUNNING OF THE BULLS explores the history and cultural relevance of this centuries-old tradition that attracts people from all over the world. Longtime participants explain why they run in a race with a well-earned reputation for causing serious injury, and even death. High-speed cameras suspended on cables above the streets capture spectacular images that immerse viewers in the experience. Archival footage provides historical context on the evolution of the Festival of San Fermin from its humble beginnings as a local celebration to the now-famous phenomenon.

He went from western Montana lumberjack to improbable filmmaker and, in the process, provided memories to share. It’s not possible to share a tasty artifact from Montana’s military past in Miles City—you’ll find out why. Did you ever wonder what a cow was thinking? We’ll meet a Toston woman who took that a step further and wrote songs about it. Listen in on Judy Williams’ entertaining concert and see how her approach to having fun has impacted others. And learn the traditions and family ties that inspire Crow Indian artist Kevin Red Star during visits to his studio in Roberts and family ranch near Pryor.

7:30 WORLD  Local USA: PTSD:

They’ve been around for 4 decades and are behind some of the most influential and controversial legislation in Montana and the Nation, including Electricity Deregulation, Prison Privatization and Stand Your Ground laws. Despite these high-profile successes, few Americans know anything about the American Legislative Exchange Council, also known as ALEC. The group invites legislators from all 50 states to corporate-funded conferences where they sit down with corporate representatives and lobbyists to craft legislation together. Supporters say ALEC is an invaluable networking tool that gives them the opportunity to hear how policy could impact businesses. Critics say it gives corporations unfair access and undue influence over lawmakers.

8:00 Antiques Roadshow “Vintage

The documentary takes you to an ALEC conference in Washington D.C. where the cameras follow two Montana lawmakers as they find out what ALEC has to offer. The cameras also reveal just how much access the media and the public really have. The program introduces you to a young teacher who explains why she crashed a closed-door ALEC committee on education and it features ALEC’s Director of Public Affairs and his recent efforts to increase the group’s transparency. Nearly a year and a half in the making, the documentary uses extensive research and interviews with both critics and supporters to examine how ALEC operates, their impact in Statehouses across the United States and critics’ claims that ALEC has failed to report millions of dollars spent lobbying.

After lamenting the extinction of different animals in recent history and how they’ll never get to adventure with them, Aviva unveils her greatest invention yet – a time trampoline! The Wild Kratts jump back to the time of the extinct dodo bird, but once there, they run into Gourmand’s ancestor, who has decided dodos are definitely on the menu! Once again, it’s Wild Kratts to the rescue!

Ready 2 Read Goes Wild! Learn about Bears! trunks are free to check out for library patrons in good standing.

After visiting the dodos, the Wild Kratts travel to another time period to visit another extinct animal—the Tasmanian tiger! Their trip doesn’t go as planned, however, and they must save the Tasmanian tigers from Dabio and Donita’s ancestors, while also saving themselves from Zach, who wants to trap them in the past forever!

Leave your Legacy to Montana’s Largest Classroom Making a bequest is one of the simplest ways to support the future of MontanaPBS. With the help of an advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to MontanaPBS as part of your estate plan. Bequests may be modified at any time, and assets remain under your control during your lifetime. A complete estate plan is the only way to ensure that your wishes and intentions will be carried out. We want to ensure that we honor your intentions for your gift and the impact you wish to make for MontanaPBS. Request a complimentary Wills Guide to get started. MontanaPBS is proud to be in partnership with the MSU Foundation, to assist in filling our planned giving needs. We’re also hoping to acquire your email address so we can keep in better touch and provide you with important updates related to things that matter most to you. Fill out the survey on the bottom of this page and on the back page of this guide and email or mail it back to us. We’ll thank you for your feedback by entering you into our 30th anniversary prize giveaway. In early August we’ll draw one winner from who responds to this inquiry to receive a special limited edition 30th anniversary print, canvas tote bag, set of 6 notecards, a year of free membership for you and for a friend, and a DVD of one of our local productions. We look forward to hearing from you!
