College of
fine arts 43rd PERFORMANCE SEASON
2016-2017
Letter from the dean The College of Fine Arts is the University of Montevallo’s beehive of creativity through the arts. This season’s “at-a-glance” calendar captures the energy that animates our classrooms, laboratories, studios and stages: the research, the problem solving, the social engagement, the scholarships and the fun!
We turn passions into pathways for creative practice! As society at large continues to realize fine and communication arts’ more significant roles in our lives — far greater than an entertainment or a diversion — their value in a liberal arts education only increases. Why? Because art-making captures the way we think, the way we see, the way we learn and know, the way we tell our stories and record our histories, discover ourselves and shape the ever-changing world around us. The College is preparing students for their futures with renovations, new spaces and technologies designed to bring people together. We opened a beautiful 3-D Art facility in 2015. Last year, we broke ground on a new communication center and launched our inaugural FORTE: Festival of the Arts. We are planning an arts “collaboratory” of facilities, clustered around a commons area, which will provide new, state-of-the-art spaces for interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation and summer camps. So, I hope you will share my deep pride in our ongoing contributions to creative and scholarly excellence across disciplines and, thanks to our great alumni, across the world.
