"Forthefirsttimein2023,the nationalaveragepriceofgasoline has seen a weekly decline primarily thanks to a sharp and sudden drop in the price of oil," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy
"While the decline in both gasoline and diesel prices is terrific, it’s not unusual to see prices falling in February, which tends to be the month with some of the lowest gasoline prices of the year thanks to seasonally weak demand. For diesel, we're likely to see more declines, and potentiallymuchmoresignificant in the weeks ahead as imports of distillate have accelerated leading to a sell off. And, with warmer weather ahead, demand may struggle as well. However especially for gasoline high levelsofcomingmaintenanceand theeventualtransitiontosummer gasoline could lead today s declinestoreversedowntheroad.
For now motorists should enjoy the decline, but be wary as we're likely to eventually see increases againdowntheroad." SOURCE

With “bank jugging” and vehicle break-ins on the rise, in late 2022 Constable Kenneth Rowdy Hayden started a “Bank Watch” initiative where Deputies check banks in our precinct daily, looking for suspicious activity and behavior to ultimately prevent these crimesfromhappening.
Bank jugging is when suspect(s) follow bank customers suspected of havinglargequantitiesofcash astheyleavebanks, thenwill break into the vehicle once left unoccupied, hoping to make a quick grab and dash withthecash.
On 2/3/23 Deputies were able to stop and identify two suspects who had recently committed a bank jugging in theNewCaney TXarea. The investigation revealed the money taken during the bank juggingaswellasthevictims cellphone.

Winter Storm Mara swept through much of Central and Northeast Texas, causing dangerous driving conditions and power outages across the state. Ice accumulated on roadways, tree branches, and power lines which caused some outages and manyfallenbranches. Many stateagenciesmonitoredthe ongoing weather situation and worked to keep Texans safe, including the Public Utility Commission, Texas Division of Emergency Management, and ERCOT It is important to note that any power outages experiencedduringthisstormwere not a result of lack of capacity on the grid. Those were due to power lines beingdownduetothestorm. Weappreciatethehardwork of all our first responders and everyone who worked around the clock to keep Texans safe and warm. AUSTN – Governor Greg Abbott today announced a statewide model security plan for Texas state agencies to address vulnerabilities presented by the use of TikTok and other software onpersonalandstate-issued devices Following the Governor's directive the TexasDepartmentofPublic Safety and the Texas Department of Information Resources developed this model plan to guide state agencies on managing personal and state-issued devices used to conduct state business. Each state agency will have until February 15, 2023 to implementitsownpolicyto enforcethisstatewideplan.

“The security risks associated with the use of TikTok on devices used to conduct the important business of our state must not be underestimated or ignored,” said Governor Abbott “Owned by a Chinese company that employs Chinese CommunistPartymembers,TikTok
harvests significant amounts of data from a user’s device including details about a user s internet activity Other prohibited technologies listedinthestatewidemodel plan also produce a similar threat to the security of Texans. It is critical that state agencies and employees are protected from the vulnerabilitiespresentedby theuseofthisappandother prohibited technologies as theyworkonbehalfoftheir fellow Texans. I thank the TexasDepartmentofPublic Safety and Texas Department of Information Resources for their hard work helping safeguard the state’ssensitiveinformation and critical infrastructure frompotentialthreatsposed byhostileforeignactors.”
To protect Texas sensitive information and critical infrastructure from potential threats, the model plan outlines the following objectivesforeachagency:
* Ban and prevent the download or use of TikTok andprohibitedtechnologies
on any state-issued device identified in the statewide plan.Thisincludesallstateissued cell phones, laptops, tablets, desktop computers, andotherdevicesofcapable of internet connectivity Each agency’s IT department must strictly enforce thisban.
* Prohibit employees or contractors from conducting state business on prohibited technologyenabledpersonaldevices.
* Identify sensitive locations, meetings, or personnel within an agency that could be exposed to prohibited technologyenabled personal devices. Prohibited technologyenabled personal devices willbedeniedentryorusein thesesensitiveareas.
* Implement networkbasedrestrictionstoprevent the use of prohibited technologies on agency networksbyanydevice.
Editor’sExpress Montgomery,Texas77356-0001,Fax936-597-6395, www.montgomerycountynews.net
*Workwithinformation security professionals to continuously update the list ofprohibitedtechnologies.
In December 2022,
Governor Abbott directed state agency leaders to immediatelybanemployees from downloading or using TikTokonanygovernmentissued devices The GovernoralsoinformedLie utenant Governor Dan Patrick and Speaker Dade Phelan that the Executive Branch is ready to assist in codifying and implementing any necessary cybersecurity reforms passed during the current legislative session including passing legislation to make permanent the Governor’s directive to stateagencies.
Governor Abbott has taken significant action to combat threats to Texas’ cybersecurity, including signing the Lone Star Infrastructure Protection Actin2021tofortifycertain physical infrastructure against threats that include hostileforeignactors.
