Texas Sheriff Henderson Seeks Entergy exas Weekly Public Assistance Collecting T Customers Gas Prices
(February 14, 2022) Average gasoline prices in Texas have risen 4.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.13/g today, according to GasBuddy's survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 22.3 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 93.9 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas was priced at $2.59/g yesterday while the most expensive was $3.94/g, a difference of $1.35/g. The lowest price in the state yesterday was $2.59/g while the highest was $3.94/g, a difference of $1.35/g. The national average price of gasoline has risen 4.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.47/g today. The national average is up 16.5 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 97.2 cents per gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country. Neighboring areas and their current gas prices: Midland Odessa- $3.31/g, up 15.9 cents per gallon from last week's $3.15/g. San Antonio- $3.08/g, up 8.7 cents per gallon from last week's $3.00/g. Austin- $3.11/g, up 7.7 cents per gallon from last week's $3.03/g. "The jump in gasoline prices has continued unabated as oil prices continue to push higher, reaching $94 per barrel last week on continued concern over the possible imminent threat that Russia may invade Ukraine," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "Not only are oil prices up, but the bulk of the nation is starting the multimonth transition to summer gasoline, further adding to the rise at the pump. In addition, cold weather in Texas last week caused some power outages at major refineries, further weighing on markets. I see no other potentials in the short term but additional price increases unless Russia does an about-face on Ukraine. Even then, we'll still see seasonality push prices up, so motorists should be ready to dig deeper." GasBuddy is the authoritative voice for gas prices and the only source for station-level data spanning nearly two decades. Unlike AAA's once daily survey and the Lundberg Survey, updated once every two weeks based on a small fraction of U.S. gasoline stations, GasBuddy's survey updates 288 times every day from the most diverse list of sources covering nearly 150,000 stations nationwide, the most comprehensive and up-to-date in the country. GasBuddy data is accessible at http://prices.GasBuddy.com. SOURCE GasBuddy

Vo l u n t e e r s w i l l h e l p qualifying customers claim their Earned Income Tax Credits THE WOODLANDS, Texas – For more than 12 years, Entergy Texas employees have volunteered to help customers who qualify for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit receive assistance in claiming the money they’ve earned. And this year is no different. E n t e rg y Te x a s i s a l s o continuing its partnership with community advocates to support free IRS-certified Vo l u n t e e r I n c o m e T a x Assistance tax preparation services for qualifying customers. Funding for this effort is provided through shareholder contributions and does not impact customer bills. Since 2011, Entergy Texas’ support of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites has helped return over $15 million to almost 12,000 residents in southeast Texas. The federal government estimates EITC has lifted more than 5.6 million people out of poverty, including 3 million children; however, one out of five people who qualify for the EITC fail to claim it. “The Earned Income Tax Credit is one of our country’s most effective tools for lifting low-income workers and their families above the poverty line,” said Stuart Barrett, vice president of customer service. “Our goal is to increase the amount of federal money returned to our customers by raising awareness of the credit and supporting VITA sites to help qualified customers avoid high fees.” Free tax preparation services are provided at VITA sites throughout the 2022 tax season. At local VITA sites, IRScertified volunteers from Entergy Texas and community partners will be available to help residents who earn $57,000 or less determine if they qualify to receive the tax benefits. Qualifying families can receive as much as $6,700 through EITC. In some VITA locations, local community partners are offering appointments for tax preparation services, drop-off tax prep services, financial coaching, budget workshops, free legal services and more. Contact the provider in your community to confirm available services. VITA site locations are a v a i l a b l e a t e n t e r g y. c o m / f r e e t a x h e l p . Residents may sign up to have their taxes prepared at getyourrefund.org/BakerRipley . Information from getyourrefund.org will be used to match a tax filer with a nearby VITA provider. Suggestions for Mindful Eating: Fish with Asparagus and Beans
Food for Thought Diana Anderson
DianaCAnderson@ gmail.com
I love one-pot meals yet only rarely see one that features fish. This recipe is a perfect blend of protein, complex carbs and vegetables. Even better, you can decide the ratios of all three and even play around with the ingredients. The original recipe I came across called for Swordfish. The high mercury content of Swordfish puts it on a noeat list for me. I have had my heavy metals tested and I already have enough mercury hiding out in my body for me to be casual about consuming more. Fish naturally have a small amount of mercury which does not come from pollution. It gets into the ocean from natural sources (volcanoes and soil runoff). Mercury becomes an issue when levels get high through bioaccumulation. Bioaccumulation is the process by which pollutants collect in an organism faster than they can be excreted or metabolized, and it is a result of the food chain. Bigger fish eat smaller fish. Just like us, fish are what they eat. Fish absorb contaminants from their food. Smaller fish have smaller amounts of heavy metals. This changes with each ascending step in the food chain. Top feeders, like marlin and swordfish, are high in heavy metals, especially methylmercury. Small fish that are lower on the food chain are best for us to eat because they do not bioaccumulate POPs and methylmercury. Fish with a short life span are also better choices than longer living, larger
fish. Anchovies, herring, and sardines are great options. They are nutrientdense and low in anything that could be a potential health concern. Here is a shopping guide for popular fish: Good choices: This list includes fish that have shorter lives and are lower on the food chain. Both decrease the levels of mercury and POPs in fish. Generally, always opt for wild caught instead of farmed, and domestic over imported. * Sardines * Anchovies * Herring * Butterfish * Wild caught Pacific or Alaskan Salmon * Trout * Cod (Pacific is more sustainable) * Arctic Char * Halibut (Pacific) * Mackerel * Mussels (I buy them canned and smoked) * Oysters * Squid * Sablefish * Pollock * Alaskan King Crab * Haddock * Shrimp * Scallop * Lobster Fish to Avoid: * Farmed fish * Imported Fish, especially from Southeast Asia * Tilefish * King Mackerel * Bluefin Tuna * Swordfish * Shark * Chilean Sea Bass (high in mercury and endangered) * Orange Roughie (high bioaccumulation because of its long life and overfished) * Eel * Imported King Crab * Atlantic Salmon * Norwegian Salmon (over-farming has had a
negative impact on even wild fish in Norway) Choosing wisely lets you get the benefits of eating fish while reducing the health concerns. Consumption of oily fish, including salmon, tuna, sardines and mackerel, has been linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, thanks to its marine omega 3 fatty acids eicosatetraenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Fish with Asparagus and Beans Swap in fish—like mahi-mahi or salmon—and whatever crunchy vegetables (like green beans or snap peas) and small white beans (like navy or Great Northern) you have on hand. Serve alongside orzo, Israeli couscous, bulgur, or crusty bread for sopping up the lemony juices. Serves 4 Ingredients:
white beans, (such as navy or Great Northern), rinsed ½ ½ cup tender herbs (such as mint, dill, basil, and/or parsley), plus more for serving Preparation Step 1 Whisk lemon zest, lemon juice, red pepper flakes, and ½ cup oil in a small bowl to combine, season vinaigrette with salt and pepper.
Step 2 Season fish all over with salt and pepper. Heat 2 Tbsp. oil in a large skillet over medium. Add asparagus, garlic, beans, and ¼ cup water, season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until asparagus is crisp-tender and beans are warmed through, about 4 minutes. Transfer to a medium bowl; stir in 2 Tbsp. vinaigrette. Reserve skillet. Step 3
Heat remaining 2 Tbsp. oil in reserved skillet over medium. Cook fish, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and flesh flakes easily with a fork, 5–7 minutes. Step 4 Add fish and ½ cup herbs to bean mixture and stir once. Drizzle with more vinaigrette and season with more salt and pepper. Just before serving, scatter more herbs on top.
Zest and juice of 2 lemons 1 1 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes ½ 1/2cup plus 4 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil, divided Kosher salt, freshly ground pepper 4 1”-thick fish steaks (about 1½ lb. total), patted dry, cut into 1” cubes 1 1 lb. asparagus, woody stems trimmed, cut into ½” pieces 1 1 garlic clove, thinly sliced 2 2 15-oz. cans small
First Day on the Job One of Montgomery County PCT 4 Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden’s newest Deputies was tested on his first shift by himself when a suspect initiated a pursuit on a stolen motorcycle. Late Thursday (02/10/2022) evening, while patrolling the business and residential areas along Gene Campbell Blvd. in New Caney, PCT 4 Deputy Bobby Joe Ragland spotted a motorcycle going over 90 MPH. Deputy Ragland attempted to stop the motorcycle by turning on his emergency lights.
The male rider ignored the lights, and even looked back at the patrol vehicle before accelerating. A pursuit ensued and continued west on Gene Campbell Blvd. towards FM 1314. The rider then headed north towards Conroe making a right turn onto Allendale Ln. Deputy Ragland managed to keep an eye on the bike as it sped through the neighborhood, making several turns. The rider eventually wrecked the motorcycle in a mudhole along a pipeline road behind the subdivision and was quickly detained.
The suspect, 22-yearo l d Tr i n i t y Ly n c h (Conroe), was arrested for felony evading, as well as an outstanding warrant for theft. The motorcycle was showing to be stolen out of Conroe, so a felony Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle charge was added. Narcotics were also discovered on the motorcycle. Lynch was taken to the Montgomery County Jail, while the motorcycle is headed back to the owner. Deputy Ragland had just finished the FTO (Field Training Officer) process the day before and PCT 4’s FTO program p o r t i o n o f h i s h i r i n g was on his first solo patrol. consists of newly hired Deputies working alongside seasoned officers and supervisors as they navigate the law enforcement happenings in East Montgomery
County. “It’s great to witness the FTO process at work,” stated Constable Hayden. “Preparation is key, and I couldn’t be prouder of how our guys train and serve the citizens of PCT 4.”

Weekly Columns
January Market Review A weekly column by Kent Pendleton Volatility was the trend for domestic and foreign equity markets in January, as well as the domestic bond market, albeit to a lesser extent. The broadmarket S&P 500 flirted with a 10% pullback, for example. The ups and downs in the domestic equity indices stabilized briefly ahead of the Federal Reserve’s meeting but turned skittish shortly after Chair Jerome Powell announced there was
“quite a bit of room” to raise short-term interest rates. Wi t h u n c e r t a i n t y regarding inflation, economic slowing (though it remains at a healthy growth rate) and a Fed tightening cycle upon us, we may be in for several months of volatility before the market can resume its uptrend. Here’s what we’re keeping an eye on: * Progress toward a revised and targeted Build Back Better bill could direct additional federal funding toward energy and renewables,
healthcare, and education. * Fundamentals and demand seem to be supportive of higher technology valuations. * Central banks here and abroad are reacting to slowing economic growth and inflation by progressively raising interest rates. * The bottom line: We believe volatility and pullbacks are to be expected throughout 2022; savvy investors may elect to thoughtfully add to their equity and fixed income portfolios at opportune times. It is important that market
participants remain patient, committed to their investment strategy and avoid any knee-jerk portfolio moves. We know that volatility can be unnerving but sticking to a financial plan has historically worked in favor of long-term investors, which is why we remain focused on helping you make progress toward your future goals. Houston Texans Name a New Head Coach: Lovie Smith By: James M. Rankin, Sportswriter Montgomery County News Houston: Texas: As the turbulence 2021 season ended with the firing of David Culley, the new season begins with the announcement of a new Head Coach. The Houston Texans have promoted their Defensive Coordinator Lovie Smith as their new Head Coach. During a litigious period in the NFL, when former Head Coach Brian Flores, who interviewed for the Texans’ head coach job, is suing the league for discrimination. In a vein of irony, when Flores was head coach of the Miami Dolphins, he only hired two (2) Black coaches out of a potential rooster of eight (8) assistant coaches. It is refreshing to see a solid, qualified Black man step into the captain’s seat for the Texans to direct the team to better days. Coach Lovie Smith is a seasoned professional who knows the game of football and how to lead and develop young men. Coach Smith was an outstanding High School
athlete when he earned allstate honors and played on a State Championship team for three years. He went on to coach on all levels from High School to College and then to the big league when he was the first Black head coach to make it to a Super Bowl as he led the Chicago Bears in competitive game and received Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year award. His mentor was none other than Tony Dungy who Texans fans know all too well when he coached the Divisional rivals the Indianapolis Colts. As the great preacher Martin Luther King taught, “It is not the color of your skin, rather it is the content of your character.” H o w e v e r, i t i s q u i t e apparent that with the NFL dominated by Black athletes, there should be more opportunities given to Black coaches and Black ownership of the teams. I wished we lived in a color blind world; however, it is important to
be sensitive to all parties that are equally invested in this great sport we call Football.

A Statement in Support of The Battalion at Texas A&M University From Friends of The Daily Texan, Inc., at the University of Texas-Austin The decision announced b y t h e Te x a s A & M president to halt print production raises deep concern about the future of student journalism at A&M, and the future of the 129-year-old Battalion newspaper. Student media face the same challenges today as media companies, large and small, across the nation. But ceasing print publication will only accelerate the paper’s demise. Such a drastic plan is unnecessary, and, if carried
out will create more financial havoc for the paper. That is because most of its revenue comes from print. Yes, print media face tremendous challenges, but what is underway is not the death of print, but a major realignment, combining it with digital. Yes, it is a painful realignment, but look across the country. Countless student media and traditional media are reporting successes from this realignment. One significant success

is just to the west in Austin. In 2013, The Daily Texan at the University of Texas at Austin was facing a similar issue: Print was on the chopping block. Three things happened to stop a financial and institutional disaster: Support from the UT president. Support from UT’S Moody College of Communication and the UT School of Journalism and Media. Support from the alumni — Friends of The Daily Texan — the non-profit group that mobilized to assist. The Daily Texan/Texas Student Media is a major success story. While offering fewer days of newsprint, it now offers glossy magazines and other focused print publications, plus more digital and video offerings. This approach offers a fullservice purchase benefitting Austin and national advertisers and readers of both print and digital, adding to the bottom line. In addition, substantial new revenue has been acquired by viewing each
campus department as a potential customer, with TSM serving an agency role and providing focused publications and other media needs to UT departments. This marketing assistance helps each department tell its story and is a completely new and major source of revenue. Also, the Friends group provides financial support for The Texan’s needs, including regular donations to campus fundraising drives for The Texan, purchase of video and photographic equipment, assistance on editorial needs as requested by the Texan senior editors and TSM and other items for The Texan. It also provides 8 scholarships a year to Texan staffers, all set up for endowed and continuing funding. All of these innovative approaches help create the success story at The Texan. But if you kill print, you automatically kill your primary source of revenue, and the story changes. Studies by respected research groups show that
by eliminating print you eliminate revenue that is available to take now. You limit your income to digital only. Those of us who have worked in digital and print for years recall the early lament of salespeople: “Dollars are turning into dimes,” reflecting how revenue falls when selling only digital. For The Battalion, ending print wipes out revenue that is already booked and additional revenue coming in through its sales partnership with Texas Student Media at UT. If allowed to grow, that partnership can be a model for student newspapers across the U.S. and is wonderful to show that Aggies and Longhorns collaborate for mutual success. Print is this century’s Mark Twain comment: “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.” Case in point: as onfield photos were taken after the college football national championship game, standing in the background were people holding a product from Twitter, the ultimate digital
pure play. They held a printed mock front page from the “Twitter Trib u n e . ” E v e n Tw i t t e r understands there are more paths to the reader than a one-road digital future. And what about students? A first-class university should offer all platforms for students. They will miss job opportunities if print is a stranger. It is not the time, Texas Aggies, to throw in the towel. It is the time to be creative, make your mark and show your financial success with all media platforms! Sincerely, John Reetz, President, Friends of The Daily Texan, Inc. Statement approved unanimously at called meeting Feb. 13 of Board of Directors of Friends of The Daily Texan, Inc.
Open Letter to Texans: Powering Forward Chairman Peter Lake Public Utility Commission of Texas The Texas electric grid is the strongest and most reliable it’s ever been. In fact, we all saw firsthand how much stronger and more reliable earlier this month as an arctic freeze took hold of Texas. We had ample energy, with plenty to spare. This letter is to all Texans – to you – to reassure and tell you why the lights will stay on this winter and why outages like last year will never happen again. Last year, for the first time ever, Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Legislature have given the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) the authority to require every electricity generator in the state to winterize their operations. This means insulating pipes, installing heating equipment where necessary and putting up windbreaks to knock down the wind chill to keep gear from freezing up, among other steps. In January, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) reported to the PUCT that of the 302
generation resources they inspected for compliance with winterization requirements, just three had issues needing correction. That’s over a 99-percent compliance rate. Since then, those three resources have all corrected the issues that were identified. Of the 22 transmission facilities ERCOT inspected, all passed. The Governor and the Legislature have also given the PUCT a big hammer with which to enforce winterization rules. The PUCT can, and will, fine companies up to $1 million per day per incident for failure to winterize their operations. In fact, in December 2021, eight companies were given notices of violation totaling $7.5 million in recommended fines for failing to file winter readiness reports with the PUCT. We’ve also put in place major market reforms that put people and reliability first – not companies. In our new system, companies bring power to the grid earlier for greater supply to
prevent emergencies. For example, during this month’s severe winter weather ERCOT had enough excess power to light three million homes. The old way of doing business meant waiting for crisis conditions before more power was brought online. To reduce electricity costs, we have slashed the price cap for power by almost 50 percent, from $9,000 per MWh down to $5,000 per MWh, even in an emergency. We also know the wind doesn’t always blow and the sun doesn’t always shine, so natural gas and coal plants need to ensure redundancy in fuel supplies. Those are the plants that can be turned on and off, so they need backup fuel on-hand in case of emergency. Under reforms the PUCT adopted in December, generators are incentivized to keep back up fuel supply on hand in case extreme weather disrupts their normal fuel supply. This means, even if their primary fuel source isn’t available, they can still
get power to the grid. Many generators are already moving forward with this and had alternative fuel supplies in place during this month’s storm. Any one of these reforms is significant in and of itself. Put them together, and you have a monumental transformation of our electricity market. A transformation that puts the customer first, not power companies. Our singular focus is on reliability regardless of weather conditions. And as the electricity market continues to evolve over time, our priority will remain to utilize new technologies and tools to enhance grid resiliency and ensure that customer rates stay low. The grid’s performance during severe winter weather earlier this month proves it’s stronger and more reliable. Certainly, there is more work ahead, but I know because of the incredible work that’s already been done, the lights will stay on in Texas this winter, and beyond.
Patrick Statement on Harris County Rejecting Law Enforcement Funding Request HOUSTON, TX – Lt. Governor Dan Patrick issued the following statement after Harris County rejected most law enforcement requests for additional resources: “Last week, the Harris County Commissioners Court approved a budget plan rejecting 82 percent of funding requests from law enforcement agencies in t h e c o u n t y. T h i s i s extremely frustrating and unacceptable. “County Commissioners Tom Ramsey and Jack C a g l e o ff e r e d b u d g e t amendments that would have provided funding for more officers. These recommendations came from the Harris County
sheriff, constables, and district attorney. Additionally, this plan would have added 500 law enforcement positions. “The Harris County Commissioners Court rejected this budget, and instead voted 3-2 for a raise for sheriff ’s deputies, which was far less than the budget requests from law enforcement officials. The Harris County Deputies Organization criticized the budget for not adding more officers and argued that Lina Hidalgo has sold out its citizenry and law enforcement by ignoring this budget. I could not agree more. “ H a r r i s C o u n t y ’s decision to ignore law
enforcement’s budget is a slap in the face to its citizens. Crime rates only continue to skyrocket in Harris County. People are begging for safer streets, and our police officers have outlined the resources they need to combat this dangerous spike in crime, yet the county commissioners are turning a deaf ear. “Our law enforcement officers go to work every day willing, if needed, to risk their lives for total strangers. We have seen far too many funerals for police officers killed in the l i n e o f d u t y. T h e j o b becomes more dangerous each day. We must restore respect for members of law enforcement and give them
the resources they need to do their jobs in keeping the public safe. “I am proud of the work we have done in the Texas Senate to support our law enforcement. We passed a bill that stops the defunding of police. It will require local governments to secure voter approval before passing a budget that reduces or reallocates funding originally dedicated to law enforcement. Counties that do so without voter approval will have their property tax revenue frozen. “Rest assured; counties that choose to defund the police will be held accountable.”

Devotional Spreading the Word
By Gail J. Box Gailbox@consolidated.net
When God created man, He already knew what we would need to live our life on earth. He also knew we could fail and then we would need a Savior, Jesus Christ, God’s Son, to help us through all our days. That tells me that whatever happens to me in this life will be watched over – the good and the bad. God is truly our Father. Hear this Psalm: “Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered, and let those who hate Him flee
HE WHO GIVES US LIFE ALSO GIVES US COURAGE before Him. As smoke is driven away, so drive them away; As wax melts before the fire, so let the wicked perish before God. But let the righteous be glad; let them exult before God; Yes, let them rejoice with gladness. Sing to God, sing praises to His name; Lift up a song for Him who rides through the deserts, Whose name is the LORD, and exult before Him. Psalm 68: 1 – 4. We know God has angelic armies all through the heavens who do warfare for us –

even as we sleep. These things I’m listing should give us great courage to follow the Lord’s plan for our life. And if, by chance, we meet with conflict, God will send His mighty, warring angels to fight for us or save us from all harm. However, sometimes we may question the loss of younger or even older ones whom we want to keep here. Only God knows our life span. He will not take us any earlier or later than we’re supposed to come into heaven with Him.
I urge each one to read the last letter of Paul, written to Timothy, about the church in Corinth. In Chapter three, Paul lists some of the things which he calls, “in the last days, difficult times will come…” Here are a few of them: “For men will be lovers of self, l o v e r s o f m o n e y, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to p a r e n t s , u n g r a t eful,…unholy…etc. II Timothy 3: 2. Does this remind us of what we live with today? And
there’s more written about on this list as the verses continue. So, let’s look at some verses of encouragement, as we did above in the Psalms, which are indicative of our present times. David wrote this Psalm about the evil and the good. It, too, is one too long for writing out, so I’ll pick just a few verses to give us courage and life: “ H o w p r e c i o u s i s Yo u r lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your

Community Mother and Daughter Team Collect for the Montgomery County Women’s Shelter in Conroe
REBEL JOAN OF ARC Chapter friends, CAIMY HARBISON and & HILARIE HICKS, collected clothing & household items on behalf of the Rebel Joan Of Arc Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, for The Womens Shelter in Conroe. The Center is
known as The Marion Fischer Community Center. Then when RJOA Daughter, GEORGIA HICKS, arrived home from college, she wanted to help organize all the items gathering and dividing them, labeled them & helped load them up for drop off, with proud Mother RJOA
HILARIE HICKS. Both HILARIE HICKS and. GEORGIA HICKS have been actively involved in community work in The Woodlands and Conroe areas where mental health, women’s shelters, youth services, and Veterans are areas where they both have vested interests. Collecting items for the Conroe shelter fit the bill as it was geared towards women and children, as well as the needs of the community. Miss GEORGIA attends the University of Arkansas, maintains a high grade point average, is also a member of the Phi Mu Sorority, where her philanthropy work is given to collecting for the C h i l d r e n ’s M i r a c l e Network. What an inspiring young lady to admire as a shining example for the youth in our surrounding areas. Rebel Joan Of Arc Chapter continues to grow and promote service doing good for others in our Benevolent efforts.
Heightened Leaders Set to Further Support Local Business Community in 2022 P r o v i d i n g To o l s , Guidance, and Space for the local business community The Woodlands, Tx – Heightened Leaders, a local business and coaching firm, has spent the last 24 months helping business owners succeed, despite high employee turnover and turbulent business environments. Megan Alarid, founder of Heightened Leaders helped explain, “When March of 2020 hit, a lot of our clients didn’t know what to do at first, like so many others, but we dove in and helped them identify threats and opportunities. Together we established a plan of action, and our clients executed those plans. We are happy to report that all our clients won the year in 2021. They not only survived the current
environment, but many of them have built stronger businesses than they had pre-2020, and that feels good.” We had a chance to interview Stuart Lapp, a partner of a well-respected Law Firm with two offices in the area and 15 active attorneys. They have been working with Megan for a few years now. Stuart recalled how he first found out about Heightened Leaders “I was first introduced to Megan while serving on the board of directors of t h e Wo o d l a n d s A r e a Chamber of Commerce, The Chamber brought Megan in to follow her program. In my engagement with Megan through the Chamber, I felt like she could help our firm and thought it was something that we would really benefit from.” Stuart continued “I
joined this firm in September 2015, and in the few years that I had been here, I felt like we had a lot of potential. We just weren't taking the kind of action and doing the things that we needed to do to maximize that potential, Megan helped us overcome that.” Following the onset of Covid, Stuart and the team experienced uncertainty for their business. “We were worried, but she reminded us that we shouldn't be. She would always say, ‘you have t h i s . ’ Wi t h M e g a n ' s consistent presence, calm in the storm, and frequent reminders that we can get through anything, we did. One of my favorite things she said, ‘First things first, and Not everything needs your love.” Stuart ended our conversation with this, “I tell everybody I know and
who will listen that what she's done to change our lives and improve our business is absolutely amazing, fantastic really. I highly recommend this process for every business.” The Heightened Leaders team enjoyed helping businesses like Stuart’s in 2021, although Megan did have one regret. “The growth we experienced and the businesses we have helped has been amazing and there are still a lot of teams struggling. Our availability to support new clients quickly vanished, so we had to find other ways to serve the community and open more capacity to continue serving the community.” Heightened Leaders is currently expanding in two ways to better serve this community in 2022. Team Expansion The first step was expanding the Heightened Leaders team. Heightened Leaders brought on Christin Cherry a founder of a nationwide fitness franchise that used the same framework Heightened Leader provides to grow her business. Christin expressed her excitement: “Working with Megan allowed my business to create a foundation and helped us strategically plan our efforts each quarter. Her process is powerful and allowed us to grow year over year revenue by 100%, each year for 3 years, which was simply amazing. I wanted this for every business I encountered so when Megan approached me about joining the team, it
was an easy decision. I am so excited to help other business owners find the relief and results I enjoyed following the same process.” Adding to the team was just the first step. Heightened Leaders has also created single-day events and more training opportunities that are sure to enrich the entire community. They will be releasing more information about the added services soon. A New Training Facility L a s t l y, t h e f i r m i s upgrading its training facilities. Heightened Leaders already provides a unique space for leadership teams to plan and achieve their goals and solve their problems. The space that Heightened Leaders is preparing to move into has more space,
more tools, and is sure to be the envy of any training center. “ We a r e f i n a l i z i n g everything now and will release pictures of the new training facility soon,” said Megan. “It is going to be a special place. We can’t wait to reveal the new training studio.” The community is grateful for Heightened Leaders, and excited to see all the new expansion items come to fruition. 2022 is sure to be an exciting year for business owners, luckily for the North Houston Community, they have Heightened Leaders to turn to for guidance.
