Exhibit Texas Rebel Joan Of Arc Presents New on Display Weekly Program to Seniors at City at Sam Gas Prices Houston of Conroe Senior Center Memorial (March 28, 2022) - Average gasoline prices in Texas have fallen 6.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.84/g today, according to GasBuddy's survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 56.6 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand $1.22/g higher than a year ago. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas was priced at $3.19/g yesterday while the most expensive was $4.99/g, a difference of $1.80/g. The lowest price in the state yesterday was $3.19/g while the highest was $4.99/g, a difference of $1.80/g. The national average price of gasoline is unchanged in the last week, averaging $4.23/g today. The national average is up 62.4 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands $1.38/g higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country. Historical gasoline prices in Texas and the national average going back ten years: March 28, 2021: $2.62/g (U.S. Average: $2.84/g) March 28, 2020: $1.76/g (U.S. Average: $1.98/g) March 28, 2019: $2.46/g (U.S. Average: $2.70/g) March 28, 2018: $2.41/g (U.S. Average: $2.64/g) March 28, 2017: $2.10/g (U.S. Average: $2.29/g) March 28, 2016: $1.87/g (U.S. Average: $2.04/g) March 28, 2015: $2.21/g (U.S. Average: $2.43/g) March 28, 2014: $3.36/g (U.S. Average: $3.53/g) March 28, 2013: $3.52/g (U.S. Average: $3.64/g) March 28, 2012: $3.81/g (U.S. Average: $3.92/g) Neighboring areas and their current gas prices: Midland Odessa- $3.94/g, down 7.5 cents per gallon from last week's $4.02/g. San Antonio- $3.78/g, down 8.0 cents per gallon from last week's $3.86/g. Austin- $3.85/g, down 5.6 cents per gallon from last week's $3.91/g. “The decline we've seen in average gas prices has been slowing down, as oil prices have held above $100 after declining under that level as recently as a few weeks ago. For the near future, we’ll see a mix of slight decreases and some potential increases mixed in. California markets should finally cool off and areas could even move lower in Southern California, while the Great Lakes could see gas prices jump up after having fallen for the last week or so," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "While the national average should start to stabilize for the time being, there's no telling what's around the corner, at least for now, as the volatility in oil prices persists." SOURCE GasBuddy

“Ode to East Texas” is an exhibition of paintings by local artist Lee Jamison. In 2017, Jamison embarked on a trip with a sketchbook in hand, recording his impressions of East Texas, a region he has called home for about forty-five years. Jamison, with other observers of the Texas art scene, became convinced that East Texas, while rich in natural beauty and historic interest, has been underrepresented as a subject of serious artists. Landscapes and scenes of the Texas Hill County and Trans-Pecos abound in collections and galleries across the state, but East Texas, in Jamison’s view, has received short shrift. Seeking to remedy this lack of purity, Jamison traveled the winding, treelined passages of East Te x a s , o b s e r v i n g , sketching, and journaling along the way. The result is “Ode to East Texas”, an astonishing visual record of contemporary East Te x a s l a n d , l o r e a n d culture as viewed through the eyes of a painter. The exhibition will be available to the public from April 5 to May 28, 2022, at the Katy & E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center located at 1402 19th Street, Huntsville, Texas. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday noon to 4:30 p.m.

Suggestions for Mindful Eating: The Pastas of Spring
Food for Thought Diana Anderson

Nothing pairs so well with fresh spring vegetables as pasta, making a one-dish meal a quick reality. Seasonal ingredients shine against the background of pasta. One of my favorite spring vegetables is asparagus. Although it’s available year-round you should see the prices drop and the freshness increase this time of year. Typically, I buy a bunch and rinse them in cool water and place them upright in a glass of water, rather like flowers in a vase, then place them in the fridge until I am ready to cook them. If a few days pass and I haven’t used them in a recipe or as a side I will snap off those woody stems and give them a steam bath for only about 4 -5 minutes, then

podium covered with a tablecloth was engineered from a small end table with a cardboard box on top of it. (Needless to say, this was a very informal presentation). I had 30 minutes for the presentation and I used every one of them. I spoke of the beginning of UDC and how its name evolved. I relayed the story of young Belle Boyd, her courage, commitment and tenacity and closed with the story of
the RJOA chapter: its chartering, membership growth and the many community outreach programs in which the chapter participates. I specifically mentioned our emphasis on education, preservation of monuments, our benevolent activities and our continued recognition of veterans from all wars. There were a few questions about the period dress I wore: How much
did the skirt weigh? What was the fabric? These questions opened an entirely new dialog. Sharing some of the particulars about my dress: pagoda sleeves, under sleeves, no zippers, overslips, hoop skirts, chemise, etc., they all agreed that it was just too many layers for the hot, humid Houston summers. Before I left and wanting to seize the opportunity, I scanned the
room for veterans. (I had already chatted with a couple of them before lunch was served). I asked veterans to come forward for a picture. As a member o f t h e Ve t e r a n ’s Committee, once in place, I turned and collectively addressed them, recognizing them for their commitment and bravery by serving in the US military and for the role each of them played in keeping us safe and our Country out of harm’s way. This entire experience was nothing short of WONDERFUL and the opportunity to represent Rebel Joan Of Arc at the

The training is being offered in collaboration with Big Elm Creek Watershed Partnerships. “The Healthy Lawns a n d H e a l t h y Wa t e r s Program aims to improve and protect surface water
quality by enhancing awareness and knowledge of best management practices for residential landscapes,” Smith said. Topics discussed Becky Bowling, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension urban water specialist, Dallas, said attendees will learn about the design and installation of residential rainwater harvesting systems as well as appropriate turf and landscape species based on local conditions and other practices. “Management practices such as using irrigation delivery equipment, interpreting soil test results and understanding nutrient applications can help reduce runoff and make efficient use of applied landscape irrigation water,” Bowling said. Dean Minchillo, AgriLife Extension
program specialist in Dallas and event speaker, said proper fertilizer application and efficient water irrigation can protect and improve water quality in area creeks and collecting rainwater for lawn and landscape needs reduces stormwater runoff. Ward Ling, watershed coordinator for the Big Elm Creek Watershed, will also discuss updates on watershed protection plan activities to improve and protect water quality in this watershed during the event. Congressman Brady Named 2022 Texan of the Year Conroe, TX - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (TX-08) has been named the 2022 Texan of the Year by the Texas Legislative Conference, the well-known annual statewide policy and business forum marking its 56th year. Congressman Brady was recognized for his tireless efforts as a national economic leader and his historic work as only the third Texan in history to chair the House Ways and Means Committee. Rep. Brady accepted the honor during the 56th annual Texas Legislative Confer-
ence hosted by the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce. “Thank you very much for this wonderful honor... After 26 years, I leave Congress the same way I entered – optimistic,” said Congressman Brady. “I am proud of the work done by the Ways and Means Committee. We redesigned the tax code for growth. Millions of Americans could see opportunity they hadn’t seen before. Businesses c o u l d g r o w, c r e a t i n g millions of jobs, and increasing wages for millions of Americans.”
“As a former chamber executive and distinguished member of the United States House of Representatives, Congressman Brady is extraordinarily deserving of this honor,” said Conference Chair Patrick Rose of Corridor Title. “Texas benefits from a history of Ways and Means Committee stewardship, and a 55-year legacy of leadership on the committee that started with former President George H.W. Bush and continued with Bill Archer and now Kevin Brady.” In accepting this honor,
Congressman Brady joined an array of prominent past honorees including presidents, U.S. senators, governors and other Texas legends—several of whom he has had the privilege of calling friends and mentors. The Texas Legislative Conference is a nonpartisan organization of Texas business and political leaders who meet annually in New Braunfels to focus on public policy issues. This year’s panels focused on the supply chain, workforce and job creation, the Texas primaries and redistricting.

HOUSTON - During the 88th Legislative Session, Lt. Gov. Patrick plans to make the Senate Committee on Higher Education a subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Education. Therefore, effective immediately, Sen. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, will serve as Chair of the Senate Committee on Education during the interim to prepare for the upcoming legislative session. Sen. Angela Paxton, R-McKinney, will serve as Vice Chair of the Senate
Committee on Education through the interim. Upon making these changes, Lt. Gov. Patrick issued the following statement: "Now more than ever, we must examine education needs as a continuum, from the earliest grades through post-secondary education. The vast majority of jobs in Texas require students to continue their education beyond high school and there should be a seamless path throughout the educational experience. “I have had extensive discussions with Sen. Creighton and his team about handling these important assignments and I have full confidence in him
and his team. They will do a great job. “I have asked Sen. Angela Paxton to serve as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Education through the interim. I want to thank Sen. E d d i e L u c i o , J r. , D Brownsville, the previous Vice Chair, for his tireless work over the years. He announced his retirement late last year. “I also want to thank Sen. L a r r y Ta y l o r, R Friendswood, once again for his diligent work as Chair of Education the last 8 years. As a previous Education Chair myself, I know the work that is required on both of these committees. Sen. Taylor will continue to serve on the
Texas Commission on Virtual Education as well as the Texas Commission on Community College Finance throughout the rest of this year.” During the interim, Sen. Creighton will chair both committees, and they will continue to meet separately. Final committee assignments will be made, as usual, at the beginning of the next legislative session. However, because of the unusual number of retirements, Lt. Gov. Patrick has added Sen. Brian Birdwell, R-Granbury, to the Senate Committee on Education. Sen. Birdwell already serves on the Senate Committee on Higher Education.
TEA Announce Funding Adjustment For Texas Public Schools AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) announced today that school districts in Texas may be eligible for an adjustment in operational minutes requirements for certain attendance reporting periods during the 2021-2022 academic school year. This means funding will be made available to school systems in Texas that have experienced attendance rate declines because of the lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, given an emphasis on in-person instruction. This adjustment would apply to the first four reporting periods of the current school year. "Providing this adjustment to the 2021-22 school year will ensure school systems have the funding they need to retain the best and brightest teachers and
provide quality education to all public school students across Texas," said Governor Abbott. "We have made tremendous strides to r e t u r n m o r e o f our students back to the classroom, and will continue in our efforts to do so." "I support this adjustment in order to help our schools navigate this school year and continue to educate all students," said Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick. "My primary focus has and will continue to be ensuring that every Texas student receives a high-quality education, and this adjusted funding will help our schools continue that mission." "I thank the Governor and Commissioner Morath for continuing to step up to the plate and prioritize our schools and students still navigating the lingering impacts related to the pandemic," said House
Speaker Dade Phelan. "I’m proud that the Texas House has always prioritized the needs of our students, and I applaud our teachers and administrators for working around the clock to make sure Texas schools are open and safe. This was the logical thing to do to continue to support our school districts and students." "In recent years, the Texas Legislature has taken steps both to significantly increase funding for Texas public schools, and also to focus the structure of the finance system firmly on the needs of our students," said Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath. "This adjustment further accounts for COVID-19-related learning disruptions, and is yet another way we’re prioritizing the needs of our s t a t e ’s t e a c h e r s a n d students." In normal times, schools
are funded based on the number of students enrolled and the daily attendance on campus. TEA has continued to prioritize flexibility to ensure essential funding support for school systems, by providing full funding based on daily attendance, whether the attendance was in-person or remote. For the current academic year, this operational minute adjustment will result in the exclusion of operational minutes during those instructional days that schools have low percentage attendance rates, to ensure school districts have the financial resources to provide a high quality education to all students in Texas. It does not hold a district harmless for losses of ADA due to enrollment declines.

He built two vessels, The Wilderness Queen, which accommodated 80 passengers and the Northwood Star which held 55 passengers. These were used to operate nature sightseeing and dinner cruises. An opportunity became available in 1991, in Conroe, Texas, where they purchased the sternwheeler “The Landing Queen”. At the insistence of his wife, the vessel was re-named The Southern Empress. The first six months was spent renovating the vessel. Operation became available on September 8, 1991. It became a popular venue; open to the public for dinner cruises, corporate outings, wedding, and receptions and for motorcoach tours. The couple was very involved in the community. Business was sold in 2000. A couple of years were spent traveling to Wisconsin, Colorado and Michigan. Retirement wasn’t for Glenn. The couple purchased the Montgomery Methodist Church and Fellowship Hall located in M o n t g o m e r y. A f t e r spending some time remodeling, it was turned into a wedding facility with c h a p e l a n d b a nquet/reception capabilities under the name of The Bells of Montgomery. Devotional Spreading the Word
By Gail J. Box Gailbox@consolidated.net
What I have always loved about God’s word, The Bible, is that He tells us not only who we are, but also how we can live in this life. And what we see in the world is sometimes the very opposite of the goodness of life. It only takes a moment to see and evaluate that there are many who turn away from Jesus and choose to follow the adversary, satan. He comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. But there is a very different way to live: “So Jesus said to them again, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, I am The door of the sheep…I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture… The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.’ “ John 10: 7,9,& 10. Jesus there refers to Himself as a “door.” However, in John, again, He talks to His
We Are Chosen As A True Branch Of The Lord disciples comparing them to branches on a vine: “I am the true vine and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this; that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.” John 15: 1, 2, 7, & 8. If we attend church, we learn how to “bear fruit” in this world. If we look in the Book of Revelation, we read about Jesus speaking to seven churches. Each church has an “angel” who watches over that church. As we read about each church, there is only one in the group that is doing what Jesus says has kept His word and knows of His love for them. That’s found in Revelation 3:8. So John, in his
“book of John” and also in Revelation (written by John), lets us know the importance of gathering in a church to find out God’s word in the Bible, and how to be disciples of Jesus in a lost and dying world. We find, as in my title this week, we are already “chosen” to bear fruit from being taught about Jesus’ life. That’s how God’s word could be spread all over the known world then and also now. Each one of us in an emissary – a “chosen and true branch of the Lord” – sent out to bring in more people who can be a part of God’s kingdom here on earth. Jesus tells His disciples this: “You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give it to you.” John 15: 16.

Community Local Chapter Members Attend District UDC Meeting
Thomas Jefferson Stubbs members attending the District III meeting...left to right...Carolyn Jamail, Sherry McKey and Beckie Endebrock standing...Eva Rains and Tami Hurley, President Division President On Saturday, March 26, 2022, four members of the Thomas Jefferson Stubbs 2523 Conroe Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy attended their annual District III meeting in Madisonville, Texas The meeting was directed by Sue Hardy, District III Chairman and hosted by the McDonaldSloan 2460 Madisonville Chapter of the UDC. The hosting chapter provided a comfortable and spacious
venue to hold the meeting and also served a very delicious lunch. The McDonald-Sloan chapter served...baked chicken wrapped in bacon, steamed vegetables, creamy pasta, garden salad, rolls, tea and a fabulous slice of buttermilk pie. Patricia Stephenson is president of the McDonald-Sloan chapter and along with her members, they were excellent in hosting the 40 plus
attendees. Many things are talked about at a District meeting, like: who to contact if there is a War Between the States plaque or monument in danger of being moved or destroyed, scholarships that the UDC gives out yearly, if folks need help after a tornado or storm, that is just naming a few. So at these meetings, a silent auction is held and those funds received from the auction items are use to
help in some way. One of the Thomas Jefferson Stubbs members made bids on four items and was the highest bidder on three of them. One chapter member received the centerpiece from their table, which was a collection of the mini Confederate flags. The District III ladies were honored to have attend the meeting...Tami Hurley, Texas Division President, Sarah Beene,
Texas Division Historian, J a n e R a n c j k , Te x a s D i v i s i o n R e g i s t r a r, B e r n i c e E l g a r, Te x a s Division Ex-President, Kathy Hillman, Texas Division Ex-President, Honorary President's Carolyn Jamail and nna Shepeard and Janice Langford, President General 2006-2008.
If you are interested in your family history and think perhaps you have a Confederate ancestor, contact our registrar at carjam735@gmail.com. The objectives of the UDC are...Historical, Educational, Benevolent, Memorial, and Patriotic.
