I have realized, in the last several years, my life was always planned, as Godknewmymomwould be the one who kept me seeking and searching for Him at an early age. Oh, therewereafewdaysinby late 20 s when we as a family of four (and no more!), were experiencing greatfunontheweekends, boating and skiing on the lakenearby

However, going to church became second to our fun on the lake. I still searched out nightly home meetings once a week to attend for one evening Then, there were many Christian singers who

Since then, we still are gathering big groups of Christian singers that we may attend, or watch on video or online. Those are wonderful, also We can bring those worship songs rightintoourhomeonT.V., computers, or other kinds ofmedia.

I must say, however, there is nothing like our churchestobringuscloser to God than attending a “place”

phrases are repeated by Paul:

“For the whole Law is fulfilledinoneword, inthe statement,‘YouShallLove Your Neighbor As Yourself.’ But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another But I say walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.”

Galatians5:14–16.

God is saying: “Even if yourneighborseemsnotto be very “nice,” our job as Christians, should always show the love of God to everyonewholivesnearby I have had the pleasure of

meeting neighbors just walking by our home with their dogs. One large “Pit Bull” made friends with me by looking in my eyes and then bowing with his head to the ground! I was really surprised at that. I found out that was a very friendly stance for a dog likethattotake.

And, in closing, here is onemorescripture:

CAPTUREMYOPATHY By Cheryl Conley, Lake Creek Preserve Board of Directors

I think we can all agree that you can’t believe everythingyoureadonthe internet but sometimes good information is provided and we can actuallylearnfromit. This was the case when I read about capture myopathy (CM). Myopathy refers to diseases that affect muscles. I knew that high stressinanimalscanleadto their death but I didn’t know it had a name. With wildlife, this metabolic syndrome occurs from stress due to an intense p u r s u i t , c a p t u r e , restraint/handling, trappingorwhentransporting.Itaffectsallspeciesof all ages and sexes The signsofCMstartearlyon. The earliest sign is hyperthermia;theanimal’s temperature rises and the animal begins to pant and sweat The animal may havetroublebreathingand have a fast heart rate. The animal may appear weak and/or have muscle tremors. It could collapse and die immediately or could take up to 4 weeks. Here’s how CM is classified:

2.Acute – death occurs in 2 to 4 days

3 Subacute – death occursfromkidneyfailure

4.Chronic–animalsdie over 2 to 4 weeks from

heartfailureandparalysis

So how exactly does CM affect the body of an animal? I’ll try to make it simple. When an animal’s muscle is exerted from stress, the metabolism changes from aerobic, which means using oxygen, to anaerobic, which means it is using stored energy This causes acidosis which is the build up of lactic acid When there’s lactic acid in the bloodstream, pH in the bodydropsandthataffects theheartoutput.Iftheheart doesn’t pump oxygen to the muscle, the muscle startstodie.Overthenext7 days, the muscle dies and releases myoglobin (breakdown product of muscle) Myoglobin damages the kidney, the lungs become congested and bleed, the liver becomespaleandswollen.

Unfortunately, if you have an animal exhibiting signsofCM,theprognosis is poor There is nothing thatcanbedonetosavethe animal and euthanasia is the kindest thing you can do.

You might be wondering why you need to know about CM. In most cases, it’s nothing the average personwilleverencounter However, if you are a homeowner and decide you want to trap and relocateanuisanceanimal, youmightwanttotakethe

following steps I don’t condone this action but I realize people feel differently about it. A word of caution before setting a trap--make sure you know thelaws.Somespeciesare legallyprotected.InTexas, Texas Parks and Wildlife states that trapping and relocation of opossums, skunks and other furbearinganimalsmayoccur, “if the person has received authorization from theTPWD department and the owner of the property where the release will occur.”Theyalsostatethat

a monthly report must be submitted showing the “number and kind of furbearers captured, location of release site, plus name and address of person a u t h o r i z e d t o release ”Texas Parks furtherstatethatit’sillegal totransportanimalssuchas fox, skunk, coyote or raccoon within Texas However, there is an exemption for peace officers licensed pest m a n a g e m e n t personnel and other authorizedpersons, aslong astheanimalisreleasedin

thesamecounty,within10 miles of where it was captured.

1.Makesureyouhavea plan. If you’re successful in catching the animal, where will you take it? Don’t release on someone else’s property without permission Will you be able to check the cage regularly so the animal spends as little time as possibleinthecage?

2 Keep the cage covered with a blanket or towel. It minimizes stress on the animal when they can’tsee.

TheConroeSymphonyOrchestra CelebratedIts25thSeason

Inmyarea,we’vehada number of reports of kids harassingwildlife.Parents, please teach your children to respect all living things. Although it may seem fun to them, it could possibly cause that animal to die fromCM.
