As we look back in our Bibles at the many incidentswhichledupto our Lord’s death, we now know why He had todieonthecross,which was the worst way of death at that time. What theRomansdidn’tknow was that God and Jesus hadthisalreadyplanned.

The Roman soldiers thought they had done away with Jesus,buttheywerevery wrong. When Jesus had died and uttered His last words to the Father, this happened:

“It was now aboutthesixthhour,and darkness fell over the whole land until the

ninth hour, because the sun was obscured; and the veil of the temple was torn in two. Luke 23: 44–45. Thereweremany others who spoke with and observed Jesus walkingandtalkingwith themafewdaysafterHis death. Then, at the right time and place, Jesus turned to His disciples andHesaidtothem: Luke 24: 46,47,48,50,51,52,and 53.

“Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses

Jesus gave His disciples direction and instructions to follow after He was gone up into heaven to be with the Father once more. His stay on earth was done, and now, all who had walked and talked with Him would always be “about the Lord’s business” to tell everyone who Jesus was, is, and evermore will be And so shall everyone who shares the life of Christ and desires to becomeaChristian.Our

17, 2023 while in Huntsville, Texas, chapter m e m b e r , B e c k i e Endebrock, visited the historic Oakwood Cemetery In the above picture Ms. Endebrock is standing at the sign that list the Confederate veterans names who are buried there. Thereareatleast126 Confederate veterans buried atOakwood and six Unionsoldiers.

Thishistoricresting place has been used as a cemetery since as early as 1846, when three people wereburied there. Thenin 1847 the founder of Huntsville, Pleasant Gray deeded1600squarefeetof land to the city, to be used as a cemetery Over the years Oakwood has been enlargedbydonationsfrom localresidents.

Many headstones have a death date of 1867, when a yellow fever epidemic came thru the town.

Many wellknown

people are buried at Oakwood but two are of themore well known

They are General Sam Houston,whotwiceserved as Governor of Texas and fought at theBattle of San Jacinto. He was born in 1793inVirginiaanddiedin 1863 in Texas Captain James Gillaspie wasborn in 1805 and died in 1867, h e h a d a 3 0 y e a r militarycareer he fought for Texas under three different flags,Republic of Texas, the United States and Confedeatestates.
