This week’s Veteran is Malcolm Goldsby, who servedintheU.S.AirForce from 1948 - 1954 Malcolmservedatairbases in Arizona, Guam, and Mississippi. He was a trainer operating the flight simulators for the pilots, which is an important job. Malcolm remembers flying in the old B-29s, which were noisy to him. At Williams AFB in Arizona, Goldsby taught fighter
pilots how to fly by the instruments in the aircraft, which is very difficult, since many pilots naturally want to fly visually by noting landmarks on the ground. Instrument flying is important because if you lose visual markers, it allows pilots to stay on course without getting lost. In Guam, Goldsby was in charge of the flight simulators training pilots enroute to the Korean War in all kinds of aircraft. He also led the department at
an AFB in Mississippi. In other duties, Malcolm traveled to all parts of SoutheastAsia. Following his service, Goldsby marriedandraisedafamily He managed a number of gas stations for 40 years. This young lady is Hadley, 11, who was recently at the Lonestar Honor Flight Veterans Group,visitingherGranpy Darrell.
