City Texas Wine Fest Brings Live The of Weekly Music and Wine Tasting Magnolia Gas Prices Plans for to Historic Montgomery Expansion

(August 23, 2021) - Texas gas prices have fallen 3.1 cents per gallon in the past week, av er ag in g $ 2 . 8 1 /g to d ay, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Gas prices in Texas are 1.6 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 93.9 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas is priced at $2.40/g today while the most expensive is $3.59/g, a difference of $1.19/g. The lowest price in the state today is $2.40/g while the highest is $3.59/g, a difference of $1.19/g. The national average price of gasoline has fallen 3.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.14/g today. The national average is unchanged from a month ago and stands 96.5 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. Neighboring areas and their current gas prices: Midland Odessa- $2.95/g, up 0.4 cents per gallon from last week's $2.95/g. San Antonio- $2.63/g, down 8.1 cents per gallon from last week's $2.71/g. Austin- $2.73/g, down 4.6 cents per gallon from last week's $2.78/g. "Gasoline prices have started to slide over the last few days as oil prices have plunged, largely fueled by a continued global surge in Covid-19 cases and concern that fuel demand may shrink as more companies table return to work plans and the summer driving season comes to a close," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum a n a l y s i s f o r G a s B u d d y. "Excluding the plunge in gasoline prices as Covid unfolded in 2020, Sunday saw one of the largest single day declines in the national average in nearly three years. The good news won't end there, either, as I fully expect the national average could drop back under $3 per gallon in the next three weeks. The bottom line for motorists is that if they don't absolutely need to fill up, they should avoid doing so as fuel prices are nearly guaranteed to continue to decline in every state in the coming week." GasBuddy is the authoritative voice for gas prices and the only source for station-level data spanning nearly two decades. Unlike AAA's once daily survey covering credit card transactions at 100,000 stations and the Lundberg Survey, updated once every two weeks based on 7,000 gas stations, GasBuddy's survey updates 288 times every day from the most diverse list of sources covering nearly 150,000 stations nationwide, the most comprehensive and up-to-date in the country. GasBuddy data is accessible at http://FuelInsights.GasBuddy.c om. SOURCE GasBuddy

In 2022, City of Magnolia officials will explore future initiatives to revitalize downtown Magnolia and encourage more commercial retail and restaurant growth. The Honorable J.L. K e l l y, o f t h e C i t y o f Magnolia 4A Economic Development Corporation, said the EDC and city officials intend to develop a strategy to revitalize downtown Magnolia, a city infused with a rich history and poised for enormous growth and success. Kelly said the city will host more downtown events and continue to attract more commercial retail, recreational and cultural events making Magnolia a modern hometown destination. The EDC will also focus on continual funding of its Downtown Improvement Program, which will continue to improve the facades and help fund renovations to downtown residences and businesses. Even with all of the excitement of growth and investment, Kelly said revitalizing downtown Magnolia is not something that can be accomplished in a year. As Magnolia continues to grow, it’s important that we continue to provide the very best of our core services such as infrastructure, road maintenance, emergency services etc. to our residents. “This is going to be a very long-term project; and one we can all be proud of” said Kelly. “The vision of the EDC is to continue our role in the community that facilitates significant employment and capital investment in order to provide a sustainable local economy.”

Suggestions for Mindful Eating: Foil Packet Meals Food for Thought Diana Anderson

DianaCAnderson@ gmail.com

The first time I made a foil packet meal was when I was in Girl Scouts. We were on a camping trip and the scout leader passed out all the ingredients along with some aluminum foil. When we had sealed it up, we all put the packets in the coals of a fire and waited p a t i e n t l y. I t w a s appropriately named Camp Fire Stew and I thought it was the best thing I had ever tasted. Well, turns out foil packet meals are a real thing and aren’t just for camping. By making a packet with aluminum foil you can cook all kinds of things on the grill, in the oven, or over an open campfire. The packets create a sealed, steamy environment for gently cooking meat, fish, and vegetables. Best of all, many packets can be made into individual meals that can be customized. Whether you're eating inside or out, foil packet cooking is a fun project for the whole family to enjoy. Plus, they are great for portion control and easy serving, and did I mention you don't have to clean up afterward? BBQ Chicken INGREDIENTS Chicken breast – feel free to use chicken thighs if you like Vegetables: Broccoli, bell peppers, zucchini and corn (leave out for low carb / keto) Barbecue Sauce: We love using Primal Kitchen’s BBQ Sauce since it’s delicious, has no added sugar is Whole30 friendly, paleo & low carb but you can

definitely use your favorite BBQ Sauce like Stubbs or Baby Ray’s. Sweetener: If you want to sweeten things up, you can add a drop of liquid Monk Fruit Sweetener or your preferred liquid sweetener of choice such as maple syrup, honey or pureed dates. A p p l e C i d e r Vinegar: adds a touch of tangy-ness Smoked Paprika: adds a smokiness Chili Powder: to add some heat HOW TO MAKE BARBECUE CHICKEN FOIL PACKETS: * Begin by mixing the sauce together with barbecue sauce. We like using Primal Kitchen but feel free to use your favorite. chicken breasts that you coat in a delicious sweet and tangy barbecue sauce. * Add your favorite chopped veggies – I used zucchini, bell peppers, red onion, corn and broccoli. * D i v i d e t h e ingredients onto four 18 x 12 sheets of foil (you can also add a layer of parchment paper inside the foil if you prefer using parchment paper instead) * Seal up the packets and toss onto the grill until the chicken is cooked through. * Sprinkle with some fresh parsley and you’ve got the perfect summer meal! HELPFUL TIPS TO MAKE THE BEST FOIL PACKET DINNERS: * when baking chicken breasts in foil, you’re going to want to drizzle with oil to prevent sticking and season generously with salt and pepper first * fold foil packets by wrapping the corners into an envelope lengthwise then roll the ends up ensuring they are well sealed. You want to ensure the juices stay inside.

CAN YOU MAKE FOIL PACKETS AHEAD OF TIME? Yes! The great thing about foil packets is that they are easy to make ahead. You just assemble the ingredients into the foil packs ahead of time then place them in the cooler or fridge. Once you are ready to cook or reach your destination, remove from the cooler or fridge and place on the grill or in the oven. WHAT CAN I USE I N S T E A D O F ALUMINUM FOIL? If you prefer not to use foil, you can place the ingredients on parchment paper and on a baking sheet for the oven and on a cast iron pan for the grill. CAN YOU FREEZE FOIL PACKS? Yes, you can absolutely freeze foil packs. However, for this recipe, I would suggest leaving out the zucchini and bell peppers before freezing as they can get soggy. Just add them in when you’re ready to cook. Remember to use thick aluminum foil or double wrap your foil to prevent tearing. CAN YOU MAKE FOIL PACKS IN THE OVEN? Definitely. To make BBQ chicken foil packets, place the packets on a baking sheet and bake at 425 F for 25-30 minutes. Mediterranean Salmon INGREDIENTS * heavy duty foil plus parchment paper if preferred * 4 6 oz skinless, salmon fillets * 2 Tablespoons olive oil divided * sea salt and black pepper to taste * 1 cup canned or cooked lentils rinsed and drained

Fold the foil bringing all sides together and close off the packets. 7. If cooking on the grill: Place foil packets onto grill and grill for 6 minutes, then flip over and grill for an additional 4-6 minutes (depending on the thickness of the salmon) or until salmon is flaky and shrimp is opaque and pink. 8. Remove from the grill and carefully open the foil packets. 9. If cooking in the oven: Place foil packets on a baking sheet and cook for 15-20 minutes (rotating tray once) or until salmon is flaky and shrimp is opaque and pink. Time varies depending on the thickness of the salmon. Remove baking sheet from oven. 10. Carefully open packets. Serve warm with a splash of lemon and top with chopped parsley.

Comments According to Doc

Expanding Our Awareness Part One Of A Two Part Article With An Example Of Accepting Our Unlimited Potential Walden Happenings By Doc Fennessy The opinions expressed in this editorial do not necessarily reflect those of MCN.

By Doc Fennessy Folks Julian Websdale is a guest writer for Wake-Up World. In July 2013, he posted an interesting article on thinking beyond our own thoughts and feelings. In the following article are the unabridged words of Julian Websdale. Beyond our thoughts and feelings is another realm, the realm of spirit. This is the Divine aspect in each of us. Ever guiding and watching, this inner self is the highest possibility of all possibilities. It is the knower, doer and deed of all experience. Within the centre of our hearts beats the flame of unconditional love and that love beckons us to become all that it is. When we merge with our potential, we know, “I am that potential”. Knowing we are more than our physical bodies helps us connect with the

limitless part of spirit. When we acknowledge and connect with spirit, this energy comes through with even more understandings about life. This connection is uniquely our own. No outer source, person or book can create this connection. Free Star The path we take never matters to the Higher Self, for it knows the possibilities of where we are going in the future and will gently nudge us back on the highest course. We can connect with our Higher Self by simply acknowledging and accepting who we are without judgement. Our Higher Self never judges, so why should we? When our natural balance swings too far out of alignment, the physical discomfort usually causes us to turn to our spiritual essence for assistance. This higher aspect only knows harmony and can remind us how to regain our balance. This spiritual body, and its frequency of energy, waits with unconditional love to show us higher possibilities. However, it is usually under extreme circumstances that we let go of control and allow this energy in. Bathed in the

light for a moment, the mental, emotional, and physical bodies regain a sense of balance and start on their way again. The ideal is to regularly tap into this energy without having to go to an extreme. When we turn to our spiritual body and allow it to function as a natural part of our life, it easily harmonizes the outer three bodies, and we experience peace. When we ignore our spiritual side, we shut this energy out of our awareness and focus solely on the other bodies. Our spirit nurtures us through these other bodies and when we listen, it tells us how to specifically return energy back to alignment. Sometimes we need to feel our feelings and other times we need to stimulate our mental capacity or simply take time out to nurture our physical bodies. Balance is important in all four bodies to experience the fullness of health, happiness, harmony, and love. Though we all lay claim to some portion of the Earth, ultimately no one owns land, water, air, or any other resource. We are merely caretakers of it

during our use. By understanding a holistic view of the total planet, we are instantly reminded of our interconnectedness and interdependence. No one can hurt or harm us; we can only feel hurt or harmed from within. We feel hurt or harmed when we have given up responsibility for the creation at hand. We project our misplaced creation upon another to relieve ourselves of the necessary self-correction. Ironically, selfcorrection is the easiest of all universal processes. We can simply let go of the outer illusion before us and allow higher wisdom to evolve and improve the experience through unconditional love. The true power in life is the power we give to ourselves through love. Each of us carries a truth and for us that truth is completely real and tangible at any moment. New wisdom can come along and change this truth in another moment. Our adventure is to flow through this journey and allow our version of truth to expand. When we do this, we tap into the magnificent power of the

inner self: the expression of light and love within us all. Our goal is to balance love, wisdom and power. When we own our power, engage our wisdom, and fill our lives with love, we expand our experience of reality. Going Within Part Two Choosing our thoughts means choosing the energy we wish to have at our command. This is an important aspect in understanding and accepting our unlimited potential. If we choose positive, loving thoughts, we tap the unlimited energy to create this way. Likewise, if we choose negative, limiting thoughts, we limit the energy to create the things we want. When we consciously choose positive and loving thoughts, we begin a momentum of limitless potential. Every time we encounter a thought that does not reflect our higher desires, we can choose another thought in its place. As we gain strength in this process of conscious choice, we reduce the old momentum of limitation. We shift our thinking from the outer to the inner world of thought and tap the vast

reservoir of energy waiting to be directed. Fear is not real and need not be a part of our experience in life. Fear is really an experience of self-doubt. When we are out of our now moment and scattering our attention on thoughts and possibilities of other times, be they past or future, we are allowing doubt to enter our experience of the now. If we align ourselves fully with the present moment, trust in the experience and rely on our ability to rise above the experience, we transcend the fear. If we do not doubt ourselves or our abilities, we have nothing to fear. We empower fear in our lives, not the other way around. Fear need not have any control over us, and we need not carry other people’s experience of fear either. Suggestions of fear bombard us all the time. Just because someone else created an uncomfortable situation and experienced their own doubt, does not mean it has to be your experience. Rather liberating, isn’t it?

Annually, Texans buy over 2.7 million licenses. Those purchases fund a variety of conservation efforts at TPWD. You can purchase your 20212022 license online at https://tpwd.texas.gov. 3. COVID-19 vaccine information This month, the CDC released data about how effective the COVID-19 vaccines are at preventing severe cases of COVID-19 that could lead to hospitalization or death. Currently the “breakthrough” cases are still rare and a small percentage of fully vaccinated Texans are getting sick. The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are very effective at preventing hospitalization. The current increase in hospitalizations is driven primarily by unvaccinated Texans. In one survey of hospitals, 95 percent of people in the intensive care unit beds who are sick with COVID-19 were unvaccinated. Over 13 million Texans are fully vaccinated and I’m one of them. I

received both doses of the Pfizer vaccine earlier this year and have had no complications at all. 4. Census data released This week, the US Census Bureau released raw population data for the entire country. These data will be used later this fall when the Legislature begins the process of redistricting. Texas added 4 million people the last decade and will add two new US congressional seats because of it. The detailed information that will help the redistricting committee redraw the boundaries will be available next month and we will start that process then. 5. Special session continues We are still in the second called special session of the 87th Legislature. On the days I do not have to be at the Capitol, I have made it a priority to travel to the district to visit with constituents. This week I was in Houston County, Trinity County, and Polk County. In the past three weeks, I will have visited 18 counties. It’s been great to travel around East Texas and visit with all of you about what you think we need to be working on.

Paxton Victorious Again in Latest Immigration Battle with the Biden Administration AUSTIN – Attorney General Ken Paxton is pleased with the district court’s decision to issue a nationwide preliminary injunction against the Biden Administration after they failed to detain dangerous criminal aliens. This is the latest of series of immigration wins against the federal government for the state of Texas. Federal law requires the Department of Homeland

Security to take control of illegal aliens convicted of certain crimes after they serve their sentence. But the Biden Administration rashly decided to stop detaining illegal aliens convicted of crimes relating to drugs or moral turpitude—despite federal law—forcing Texas to sue. Today, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas ruled that the Biden

Administration’s policies violated federal law. In the ruling, the court also ordered the federal government to disclose important information about its practices “[t]o ensure compliance with this Preliminary Injunction.” “The district court sided with the great state of Texas, granting us some much-needed relief—a preliminary injunction,”

Attorney General Ken Paxton said. “The court saw the blatant irresponsibility from the Biden Administration that has caused tremendous harm to the safety of all Texans. It’s time for the federal government to wake up and address the chaos that they caused—and in the meanwhile, we will fight tooth and nail to protect Texans from their carelessness.”

Governor Abbott, DSHS, TDEM To Deploy Additional Medical Personnel, Establish More COVID-19 Antibody Infusion Centers Throughout Texas AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott today announced that the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) will deploy additional medical personn el a n d lau n ch mo r e COVID-19 antibody infusion centers across the state over the next week. "Front-line health care workers across our state are working tirelessly to keep Texans healthy and safe," said Governor Abbott. "The substantial increase of infusion centers will reduce hospitalizations, and the added medical personnel will help treat COVID-19

patients already in hospitals. Hospitalizations can also be p r e v e n t e d b y Te x a n s getting the COVID-19 vaccine. To find a vaccine provider near you, visit covidvaccine.texas.gov." About 2,700 medical personnel will be called up by the end of this week to help hospitals care for the increasing number of COVID-19 patients across Texas. DSHS will increase that to at least 5,500 by the end of next week. This operation follows the Governor's directive on August 9th that DSHS utilize staffing agencies to provide out-of-state medical personnel to Texas health care facilities to mitigate the

surge of COVID-19 cases in Texas. The additional deployment of personnel will be fully funded by the state through September 30. TDEM will launch two new regional infusion centers in Beaumont and Odessa by next week. Odessa will launch tomorrow and Beaumont will launch on Monday. DSHS will open COVID-19 antibody infusion centers in Fort Worth and Laredo tomorrow morning. These infusion centers are in addition to several others that launched across the state last week including Austin, Corpus Christi, Conroe, Harlingen, and Lubbock.

These infusion centers, equipped with Regeneron's monoclonal antibodies, will treat COVID-19 patients at no cost with therapeutic drugs that can prevent their condition from worsening and requiring hospital care. These centers also help increase bed capacity in hospitals so that resources are available for the most ill patients. The State deployed similar measures in early 2021 to communities across Texas. Patients must have a referral from a doctor. Currently, there are more than 140 providers that are providing antibody treatments at hospitals and clinics across the state.

Paxton Successfully Sues Vaccine-Mandating School District AUSTIN – Last Thursday, August 19, Attorney General Paxton sued the San Antonio Independent School District and its superintendent for mandating all district employees receive a COVID-19 shot in violation of Governor Abbott’s Executive Order 38, which bans public entities from requiring

individuals to receive COVID-19 vaccines administered under the Federal Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) “emergency use authorization.” T h e n e x t d a y, t h e D i s t r i c t ’ s superintendent issued a District-wide “clarification”, saying that he “will not compel any staff members to be vaccinated

until the vaccines are fully approved by the FDA.” “State law could not be clearer: ‘No governmental entity can compel any individual to receive a COVID-19 vaccine administered under an emergency use authorization.’ But San Antonio ISD tried to play by its own set of rules. Thankfully, we

stopped them,” said Attorney General Paxton. “The law states that ‘receiving a COVID-19 vaccine under an emergency use authorization is always voluntary in Texas and will never be mandated by the government.’ I will always fight to support the rule of law."

Devotional Cries From The Heart - Needful Prayers - God Hears Spreading the Word

By Gail J. Box Gailbox@consolidated.net

I believe one of the most meaningful and grateful truths about God is to know that He hears us when we pray. Sometimes we just give regular prayers, and then at times, come heart-wrenching cries of hope and anguish too deep to utter out loud. Our heart becomes broken with grief as we watch man run roughshod over men, women,

and children. Our hearts break for those in bondage through wars and persecution. That’s when the “powerful” prayers come to petition our Beautiful God to save many from t h e c h a o s o f m a n ’s inhumanity to man…like wars involving the very young to the very old. We always have to “pick up the pieces” and go on. It looks, at times, like satan is winning – all over the world. However, that’s a false outlook. I know, for a fact, the Lord hears the cries of the down-trodden all in this world. It reminds me

Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word according to all Your name. On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul.” Psalm 138: 1 – 3. Although we don’t have God’s temple now, we can “bow down” to Him anyway in prayer. He hears all our praises, prayers, and worship. And we know we can receive strength from Him as we pray. Keep on beating on Heaven’s doors, Saints. We will soon see that the BEST is yet to come!

of Paul’s letter to the Romans as he states in his closing remarks to them: “For the report of your obedience has reached to all; therefore I am rejoicing over you, but I want you to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.” Romans 16: 19 – 20. We all wish for world-wide peace. And that’s good. We’ll always pray for that. Someday that will come about when Jesus comes back to earth,

once again, to defeat satan permanently. That’s why we will never stop praying, worshipping, and hoping for many more friends and family to come to Jesus for love, rest, help, and comfort. Yes!! Our prayers can avail much on earth and in heaven. God never gets tired of hearing the petitions of our hearts. Those spoken prayers may release angels to come and fight our constant enemy here on earth. How do I know prayers work? Here on the Texas coast, we continually pray for those “wind-

maker” hurricanes to lose strength as they pummel through the Gulf waters to destroy all in their path. Sometimes they may take a d i ff e r e n t w a y a n d weaken in strength. Still then, I can know my God has heard my pleas and cries for His divine intervention in all circumstances. Be comforted with these verses from David’s heart to God: “I will give You thanks with all my heart; I will sing praises to You before the gods. I will bow down toward Your holy temple and give thanks to Your name for

According to Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday, four priorities will focus efforts on sailors, readiness, capabilities, and capacity.

“For 245 years, in both calm and rough waters, our Navy has stood the watch to protect the homeland, preserve freedom of the seas, and defend our way of life,” said Gilday. “The decisions and investments we make this decade will set the maritime balance of power for the rest of this century. We can accept nothing less than success.” There are many accomplishments that come with military service, and James is most proud of his assignment to the Individual Material Readiness List Department. “I was selected for this one-year temporary assignment,” said James. I’m the calibration petty officer in my shop. It’s a very important role because we deal with every work center in my command and all the squadrons on base and to bases worldwide. It keeps us busy, and I love my job.” As James and other sailors continue to train, they take pride in serving their country

in the United States Navy. “Being a part of something bigger than myself and the community that it brings,” added James. “I have friends in the Navy stationed all over

the world. If I ever visit, I’ll have friends to hang out with. Serving my country is something I always wanted to do.”
