Texas Montgomery County Republican Women Welcome Houston Texans Weekly Sheriff Roy Boyd Of Goliad And Rand Henderson Of Gas Prices Montomgery County As Their August Speakers

(September 13, 2021) Texas gas prices have fallen 1.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.81/g today, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Gas prices in Texas are 4.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 93.0 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas is priced at $2.29/g today while the most expensive is $3.59/g, a difference of $1.30/g. The lowest price in the state today is $2.29/g while the highest is $3.59/g, a difference of $1.30/g. The national average price of gasoline has fallen 1.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.15/g today. The national average is down 2.8 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 97.7 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. Neighboring areas and their current gas prices: Midland Odessa- $2.94/g, up 1.8 cents per gallon from last week's $2.92/g. San Antonio- $2.66/g, down 3.3 cents per gallon from last week's $2.69/g. Austin- $2.72/g, unchanged from last week's $2.73/g. "Sagging U.S. gasoline demand along with continued recovery after Hurricane Ida have helped gas prices edge slightly lower in most states from where they were a week ago. But with Tropical Storm Nicholas threatening another key area of refineries in Houston with significant rain, we could see the decline in prices hit the pause button," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. "While Nicholas would appear to be a minor storm, we could see a deluge of water - the same issue that caused some significant damage in Ida's wake to refineries in Louisiana. Combined with the earlier storm, Nicholas could make things more challenging. However, as gasoline demand has now fallen for four straight weeks, there is more breathing room even if some capacity does temporarily go offline. It's too early to tell, clearly, but motorists should be aware." GasBuddy is the authoritative voice for gas prices and the only source for station-level data spanning nearly two decades. Unlike AAA's once daily survey covering credit card transactions at 100,000 stations and the Lundberg Survey, updated once every two weeks based on 7,000 gas stations, GasBuddy's survey updates 288 times every day from the most diverse list of sources covering nearly 150,000 stations nationwide, the most comprehensive and up-to-date in the country. Win Their First Game of the 2021 Season Jamming the Jaguars 37-21

The Montgomery County Republican Women were blessed to have two outstanding Texas Sheriffs as there speakers for the recent August meeting. Speaking on the Border Crisis, S h e r i ff R o y B o y d o f Goliad County, stated that he talks with Homeland Security agents daily to share information and stop the illegal activities passing through the country. He added, that although the Goliad County Sheriff ’s office does not enforce immigration, it is often overwhelmed “by the complex transitional criminal organizations who are moving slaves from foreign countries” into its jurisdiction. This activity puts the safety of local landowners at risk and also puts those being trafficked in danger and issues his officers address range from trespassing to theft, property damage and lives endangered! By: James M. Rankin, Sport Writer Montgomery County News Houston, Texas: It was a surprisingly remarkable game with two first year coaches of their respective NFL teams with David Cully for the Texans and Urban Meyer for the Jaguars. Unfortunately, there can only be one winner for their first outing and that goes to the Texans Jamming the Jaguars 37-21. Newly acquired quarterback Tyrod Taylor looked rock solid as the l e a d e r o f t h e Te x a n s offensive unit as he went for twenty-one (21) completions on thirty-three (33) attempts for two hundred and ninety-one (291) yards with two (2) touchdowns. Tyrod was also effective with the ground attack averaging ten (10) yards a scramble ending the day with forty (40) rushing yards. Texans’ running back Mark Ingram scored the first touchdown punching it in on their second series from the oneyard line capping a fourteen (14) play and eighty-fouryard drive. Ingram has twenty-six (26) carries for eighty-five (85) yards averaging three (3) yards a carry. Texans’ wide receiver Brandin Cooks looked electric with an outstanding performance with five (5) receptions for one hundred and thirty-two (132) yards. Another additional to the offense was the acquisition of ex-Patriot Danny Amendola, who played slot, had his first touchdown as a Texan. His experience, quickness and sure hands will be a tremendous asset for the team. Fill in place kicker Joey Slye went three (3) for three (3) in the field goal department along with four (4) extra points. The Texans defense were tough on the Jaguars’ rookie first round draft choice quarterback Trevor Lawrence who had three (3) interceptions and a sack against him. The Texans had only three (3) interceptions for the entire 2 0 2 0 s e a s o n . Te x a n s defensive back Desmond King led the team with five (5) solo tackles and three (3) assists. During the press conference, Texans Head Coach Cully told the reporter, “We were not surprised; we expected to win. When you take care of the ball, you will win!” The Texans has had a complete makeover with thirty (30) new players on the roster. It appears that the hard work in preseason is paying dividends for the team. The Houston Texans travels to Ohio to take on the Cleveland Browns this Sunday. The Texans are at the top of the AFC South division as the Colts, Jags and Titans lost their first game, so read all about it in your hometown paper.

Improves Improves Gut Gut Health Health and and Digestion Digestion Similarly, Similarly, to to collagen, collagen, gelatin gelatin is is beneficial beneficial for for pprreevveennttiinngg iinntteessttiinnaall damage damage to to the the lining lining of of the the digestive digestive tract, tract, thereby thereby preventing preventing permeability permeability and and leaky leaky gut gut syndrome. syndrome. Gelatin can improve your ability to produce adequate gastric acid secretions that are needed for proper digestion and nutrient absorption. Glycine from gelatin is important for restoring a healthy mucosal lining in the stomach and facilitating the balance of digestive enzymes and stomach acid. When you don’t make the proper amount of enzymes/stomach acid, you can experience common digestive problems like nutrient deficiencies, acid reflux, bloating, indigestion, as well as anemia. Older people often experience more digestive problems because vital digestive juices are lowered during the aging process and worsened by increased stress. F i n a l l y, g e l a t i n i s capable of absorbing water and fluids, which helps prevent fluid retention and bloated stomach while improving constipation.

2. Protects Joints and Lowers Joint Pain Collagen and gelatin have gained notoriety for easing symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is common in older people and considered the leading cause of frequent joint pains. As people age, they tend to develop more stiffness, aches and limited mobility that worsen over time since collagen continues to break down and erode. 3. Helps Improve Sleep Quality Certain studies have shown that gelatin helps people who continuously experience trouble falling asleep, can’t sleep or who have general unsatisfactory sleep if they take three grams before bedtime. 4. Lifts Your Mood and Improves Cognitive Abilities The amino acid glycine is considered an “inhibitory neurotransmitter,” which means it acts similarly to some anti-anxiety or antidepressant medications, only without t h e u n w a n t e d complications and side effects. People use glycine and other forms of amino acid therapy to naturally boost mental clarity and calmness because certain amino acids help lower “stress hormones” like norepinephrine and increase “happy hormones” like GABA. That’s quite a lot of benefit especially if you make a recipe using fruit which is where I’m headed with this. I loved jello as a kid! Particularly cherry jello, but check out the ingredients: Sugar, gelatin, adipic acid (for tartness), artificial flavor, disodium phosphate, sodium citrate, fumaric acid, Red 40, Blue 1. Yuck! You can bet your bottom dollar that sugar is from GMO sugar beets. And the chemicals, artificial flavors and colors? No thanks! I went to Whole Foods and was pleasantly surprised to see they carry a box called JEL by Bakol foods. 100% natural they say and non-GMO. Its ingredients are: Raw cane sugar, carrageenan, citric acid, potassium citrate, vegetable juice color and natural flavor. Where is the gelatin? Carrageenan! Double yike, that’s no good for you. And “natural flavor”? Nobody even wants to know what they put in that c a t e g o r y. A g a i n , N o thanks.

Am I doomed to a world in which I can't eat jello? Or introduce the delicious treat to my grandchildren? Of course not!! You can still eat jello in a Real Food world? Healthy, nutrient dense homemade jello! And it is oh so simple to make! You can also get the benefits of gelatin by making your own jello! You just need to be sure you are using a quality gelatin, some quality fruit juice, sweetener (optional), lemon extract or oil (optional). The general rule of thumb is 1 cup juice, 1 tbsp gelatin and 1 tbsp sweetener. Depending on what juice I am using, I often skip the sweetener You can buy unflavored gelatin in packets at the grocery store from Knox. The only ingredient listed is gelatin. Or you can look a little deeper for one that advertises the source of their gelatin. Many uses buzz words such as kosher, grass-fed, pasture raised or non-GMO. If you want a firmer, more ‘jello jiggler' type consistency, use more gelatin (2 tbsp or so). This is also a consideration if you want to use a mold as mentioned below. My grandchildren’s favorite is a mixture of grape and cherry, but you can use any juice you would like! I do recommend a juice with a lot of flavors to balance out the (non) flavor of the gelatin. If you want a tart jello, a drop or two of lemon extract or lemon essential oil is a great idea! I’ve heard blueberry juice is the bomb in this recipe but haven’t tried it. You can double, triple, even quadruple this recipe depending on how much jello you want to make! Healthy Homemade Jello Ingredients 1. 2 cups juice (choose a quality juice, organic, with few ingredients) 2. 2 tbsp gelatin 3. 3. 22 tbsp tbsp maple maple syrup syrup or or other othersugar sugar(optional) (optional) 4. 4. several several drops dropslemon lemon essential essential oil oil or or extract extract (optional) (optional) Instructions Instructions 1. 1. Comments According to Doc “We Texans Have A Plan And A Way-of-Life Here, Wise-up Learn It Or Move On, Part 3!!!” Walden Happenings By Doc Fennessy The opinions expressed in this editorial do not necessarily reflect those of MCN.

This is the 3rd Part of the Texas Series, aimed at the newcomers streaming into Texas; and those who might have missed it the first time or need a refresher course. Although the era of the “Big-Herds” – per say is over, there are still big ranches and big herds out there -they are not so obvious anymore. Are there still cowboys? Yes, there are still cowboys on the ranches and rodeos. Texans are proud people and law-abiding patriotic citizens that go by the rules. So, you newcomers and illegals sneaking in better “WISE-UP” to our rules or “MOVEON!”

COWBOY RULES FOR: Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Nebraska, Idaho, Nevada, South Dakota, Kansas and the rest of the Wild West are as follows: (1.) Pull your pants up. You look like an idiot. (2.) Turn your cap right, your head ain't crooked. (3.) Let's get this straight: - it's called a gravel road; I drive a pickup truck because I want to. No matter how slow you drive, you're gonna get dust on your Lexus. Drive it or get out of the way. (4.) They are cattle. That's why they smell like cattle. They smell like money to us. Get over it. Don't like it? Highway 10 & Hwy-40 go east and west, Hwy 17 & I-15 goes north and south. Pick one and go. (5.) So, you have a $60,000 car. We're impressed. We have $250,000 Combines that

are driven only three (3) weeks a year. (6.) Every person in the Wild West waves. It's called being friendly. Try to understand the concept. (7.) If that cell phone rings while a b u n c h o f geese/pheasants/ducks/d oves are comin' in during a hunt, we WILL shoot it outta your hand. You better hope you don't have it up to your ear at the time. (8.) Yeah! We eat trout, salmon, deer and elk. You really want sushi and caviar? It's available at the corner bait shop. (9.) The 'Opener' refers to the first day of deer season. It's a religious holiday held the closest Saturday to the first of November. (10.) We o p e n d o o r s f o r women. We Texans stand aside for women. That's applied to all women, regardless of age. (11.) No, there's no 'vegetarian special' on the menu. Order steak, or

Celebrities Whom I’ve Encountered! Weekly Column by Doyle Driver doyledriver@yahoo.cm.

In my twenty-five years of travel I’ve met celebrities, and flown on flights with some, but never wished to disturb their privacy. I was on a flight with Lee Marvin from Australia to Los Angeles, but chose not to disturb him! I’ve been on flights with Shirley Jones, Ed McMann, ABC’s European News Director, and former Pastor of the largest Methodist Congregations in the world Dr. Charles Allen. I met Mickey Rooney and William Holden when they made “Bridges of Toko-Ri” aboard the Oriskany. In Paris France I rode the escalator behind “Hot Lips Houlihan” Star of Mash! Flying from Houston to Los Angeles Ed McMann and his companion, a beautiful blond young enough to be his daughter, were across the aisle passengers. Upon arrival, they disembarked in front of me as Ed pressed a hand full of hundred dollar bills into hers, without a word as they parted. On our way way to South Africa, Patricia and I were in the JFK Pan Am Clipper Club when Governor White and his wife were approached by the Pan Am Hostess for fees to enter the club.. I immediately told her that Governor and Mrs. White were our guests. Since Gov. White, Lynda Gayle and Patricia were Baylor graduates we had no problem with a three-hour visit. I was later invited to the Governor’s Mansion for lunch. Others I’ve spoken with include Dr. Charles Allen and the European ABC News Director. Dr. Allen was traveling to London shortly after his wife passed away to spend Christmas with his daughter and family. I’d met him years before, and since we were seated across the aisle, I mentioned his grandchildren and our boys were enrolled in The American School of London, but his conversa-

tion was truncated, and I felt he’d rather be alone, so I dropped efforts of further chats. The conversation with the ABC News Director went quite well. We were seated four to the table in the upper deck of a Pan Am 747 for dinner, and for more than an hour we engaged in conversation. Excusing ourselves to return to our assigned seats, he told us that he never visited on fights but rather enjoyed his dinner with us. In Miami to introduce buyers to a casual friend, Mr. Brady, owner of Brady Oil Interests in Oneida, TN, I was surprised to learn that F Lee Bailey was his Lawyer and Friend. We had two full days of discussions. Between discussions Lee Bailey told us stories of cruising his Yacht off the Florida Coast. One night after midnight, he was alerted of an unknown vessel rapidly approaching. Radioing the unknown vessel brought no response, so they attempted to alert the US Coast Guard. The Coast Guard didn’t respond, so as a result Lee called them once again, telling them his crew would open fire with their 50mm machine guns once they were in range. He said that his radar showed

the approaching vessel making a U-turn. He admitted he had no such guns, but used the ploy as a last resort to save his Yacht and possibly his life. Mr. Brady invited us to have dinner with him that night but the buyers wanted time to discuss the purchase. Much to my chagrin, dinner was at an exclusive restaurant with Mrs. Brady, F Lee Bailey and his girlfriend, Connie Frances, who at the time was one of my favorite singers. Lee showed up late next day for he’d taken ill by eating contaminated Stone Crabs the night before. The buyers concluded the deal with Mr. Brady, and paid with a check hotter than a black car on a Texas Fourth of July! They were soon incarcerated as prisoner guests of the state and federal governments. I’d only been employed to consult and introduce them to Mr. Brady, who understood and later offered me a position with his company. As you might have guessed--the buyers still owe me my consulting fee! Driver is a Native Texan born and reared in Hardeman County. He can be reached at doyledriver@yahoo.com.

you can order the Chef's Salad and pick off the 2 pounds of ham and turkey. (12.) When we fill out a table, there are three main dishes: meats, vegetables and breads. We use three spices: salt, pepper and ketchup! Oh, yeah ... We don't care what you folks in Cincinnati call that stuff you eat... IT AIN'T REAL CHILI! (13.) You bring 'Coke' into my house, it better be brown, wet and served over ice. You bring 'Mary Jane' into my house, she better be cute, know how to shoot and drive a truck. (14.) College and High School Football is more important than the Giants, the Yankees, the Mets, the Lakers and the Knicks all combined, and a dang site more fun to watch. (15.) Yeah, we have golf courses. But don't hit the water hazards - it spooks the fish. (16.) Turn down that blasted car stereo! That thumpity-thump ain't music, anyway. We don't want to hear it any more than we want to see your boxers (Refer back to No. 1)! A true Texan will send this to at least 10 others and a few new friends that probably won't get it, but we're friendly so we share in hopes you can begin to understand what a real life is all about!!! Now folks, here are some tips from THE REDNECK BOOK OF MANNERS! Never take a beer to a job interview. Always identify people in your yard before shooting at

them. It's considered poor taste to take a cooler to church. If you have to vacuum the bed, it is time to change the sheets. Even if you're certain that you are included in the will, it is still considered tacky to drive a U-Haul to the funeral home. D I N I N G O U T: I f drinking directly from the bottle, always hold it with your fingers covering the label. Avoid throwing bones and food scraps on the floor as the restaurant may not have dogs. ENTERTAINING IN YOUR HOME: A centerpiece for the table should never be anything prepared by a taxidermist. Do not allow the dog to eat at the table no matter how good his manners are. P E R S O N A L HYGIENE: Dirt and grease under the fingernails is a social no-no, as they tend to detract from a woman's jewelry and alter the taste to finger foods. While ears need to be cleaned regularly, this is a job that should be done when driving your friend’s pickup using your OWN truck key. Proper use of toiletries can forestall bathing for several days. However, if you live alone, deodorant is a waste of good money. DATING (OUTSIDE THE FAMILY): Always offer to bait your date's hook, especially on the first date. Be aggressive. Let her know you're interested: 'I've been wanting to go out with you since I read that stuff on the bathroom wall two years ago. Establish with

her parents what time she is expected back. Some will say 10:00 PM; others might say 'Monday.' If the latter is the answer, it is the man's responsibility to get her to school on time. Always have a positive comment about your date's appearance, such as, 'Ya'll sure don't sweat much for a fat gal.' W E D D I N G S : Livestock, usually, is a poor choice for a wedding gift. Kissing the bride for more than 5 seconds may get you shot. For the groom, at least, rent a tux. A leisure suit with a cummerbund and a clean bowling shirt can create too sporty an appearance. Though uncomfortable, say 'yes' to socks and shoes for this special occasion. It is not appropriate to tell the groom how good his wife is in the sack. D R I V I N G E T IQUETTE: When approaching a four-way stop, the vehicle with the largest tires always has the right of way. Never tow another car using panty hose and duct tape. Wh en s en d in g y o u r wife/girlfriend down the road with a gas can, it is impolite to ask her to bring back beer. Never relieve yourself from a moving vehicle, especially when driving. Do not lay (burn) rubber while traveling in a funeral procession. TWO REASONS WHY IT IS HARD TO SOLVE A REDNECK MURDER: the DNA is the same and there are no dental records!

across the state. Last month, the US Census Bureau officially released the data to the states. The data show that Texas' population grew by more than 4 million people in the last ten years. As a result, Texas gained two new US Congressional seats. Decisions about where to place those seats and how the other 36 US Congressional districts will look have to be made by the Legislature as well. The Senate has been gathering public testimony about communities of interest in virtual public hearings that Texans can participate in from anywhere across the state.

2. Senate Redistricting 3. New TxDOT task Committee holds public force to direct highway hearings safety project funding For the past week, the Senate Select Committee on Redistricting that I serve on has been holding public hearings daily to gather input from local communities about the redrawing of legislative boundaries. Every ten years after the release of the Census, the Legislature must redraw district lines for the State House, State Senate, US Congress, and State Board of Education to adjust for population changes

This week the Texas Department of Transportation announced a new task force that will identify safety projects that focus on reducing the number of fatalities on Texas highways. The group is comprised of TxDOT representatives and members of each of the state's 23 metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs). The Safety Task Force will have an initial two-year term and will develop a short-term plan

to invest funding in current safety initiatives like rumble strips, cable barriers, shoulder widenings, and other safety projects. Additionally, they will develop a long-term plan to identify funding sources, establish criteria to determine the effectiveness of the plan, and create incentives for partnerships in reducing highway deaths. The task force will provide regular updates to the Commission with a final report delivered at the end of its initial two-year term. Safety on our roadways is one of the highest priorities at TxDOT and additional safety planning is essential to ending deaths of Texas roadways. This task force will help Texas on "The Road to Zero," an initiative to reduce the number of deaths on Texas highways by half by 2035 and to zero by 2050. 4. Operation Lone Star continues The Texas Department of Public Safety continues working to secure our southern border. Operation Lone Star includes air, ground, marine, and tactical security assets along the border to combat human trafficking and drug smuggling into

Texas. Since the beginning of Operation Lone Star, DPS has made 5298 criminal arrests and over 65,000 migrant apprehensions and referrals. DPS has also seized 1,500 firearms, over 8,300 pounds of cocaine and methamphetamine, and over $14.7 million in currency. Officers have also been involved in 694 vehicle pursuits. I'm proud of the work they are doing with the Texas National Guard and local law enforcement. 5. Texas again named #1 state for infrastructure For the fourth year in a r o w, S i t e S e l e c t i o n Magazine has named Texas the number one state for infrastructure in 2021. The Global Groundwork Index measures the state's success in combined infrastructure and corporate end-user project investment. It identifies where billions of dollars in corporate facility activity intersect with billion of dollars in roads, bridges, airports, tunnels, pipelines, utilities, railroads, and other major infrastructure projects. Louisiana, Virginia, Arizona, and Ohio rounded out the rest of the top five.

Leaving Money to Your Kids? Consider These Inheritance Tips ESTATE AND GIVING How to have a valuable family conversation about your estate. A weekly column by Raymond James Talking to family members about estate planning and legacies can be uncomfortable. These discussions, however, are an important way to share your choices with your children and prepare them for their financial futures. Here are a few suggestions to help you broach this tricky topic and set your heirs up for better success. Communicate your values about money in a larger context. Build on the casual conversations you've already had with your kids about what matters to you most. When children are familiar with their parents’ values, they're more likely to have a good idea of what to expect from their parents’ estates. A few ideas to get the discussion started: how do you feel about the value of education, hard work or integrity of character? What philanthropic causes are most important to you and why? What are some of the life experiences that have helped shape who you are? Evaluate your children’s money skills. Kids who grew up in the same family don’t always have the same knowledge and attitudes about money – while some may have a real interest (or education) in financial decision-making, others may not be at the same level of readiness and responsibility. Conversations about estate planning can become part of larger discussions designed to

help teach them how to manage and become comfortable with their legacies. Remember, you have flexibility around how and when you pass on your wealth. If your heirs are ready now, you might wish to share part of their inheritance while you’re still alive, allowing you to provide guidance and enjoy their development as stewards of your wealth. If you’re less confident in their financial responsibility, you might consider using a wellstructured trust to better ensure your intentions for the wealth are abided by. Dispel misguided expectations about what they’ll inherit. Perhaps you’ve quietly decided to leave all your assets to a charitable organization. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, you’d like your children to take ownership of substantial wealth you’ve kept under the radar – perhaps in the form of land or business ownership. Whether your kids will be inheriting nothing, significant wealth, or something in between, providing a clearer understanding of what they'll be taking on will prevent misguided expectations. Though the conversation may be uncomfortable, discussing it now can help avoid further discord down the line. If you are planning to leave your kids a large inheritance, consider including them in a

conversation with your financial advisor, who can help heirs learn more about the financial and the emotional aspects of managing inherited wealth. They can also help you consider different options, such as giving more to your children during their lifetimes, to possibly reduce the impact of a sudden inheritance. If your kids’ inheritances will look very different, communicate it early. Ultimately, how you choose to share your wealth – and with whom – is entirely up to you. But if your estate plan doesn’t treat your children equitably, it’s wise to share that information well in advance and communicate it privately to each child. If you can discuss these provisions and the reasons for them ahead of time, there’s less likelihood of conflict between siblings after you're gone. In addition to having an in-person conversation with your heirs, it may also be wise to include your rationale in your will. This can help safeguard against possible claims of attorney drafting errors or other grounds for contesting the document. Set apprehension aside. Perhaps the strongest reason for not discussing estate plans with family members is fear – fear that children will be angry or disappointed, that their expectations for their inheritance are inflated, or that they’ll be resentful of

other heirs. Although these conversations can be difficult, remind yourself that they're an important step in providing clarity about your financial legacy – which is ultimately in everyone's best interest. Devotional Handling Trials And Tribulation Here And Now Spreading the Word

By Gail J. Box Gailbox@consolidated.net

As we go through these days of decision and confusion, I hope your prayers, as well as mine, seek comfort and peace from a loving God. He is surely “ Ya h w e h S h a l o m , ” which means, “The Lord My Peace.” This particular name of God comes f r o m S e c o n d Thessalonians which says, “Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually

grant you peace in every circumstance. The Lord be with you all! Second Thessalonians 3:16. In my time of research this week, I found many scriptures of encouragement. It made me think of the many times God has been good to us throughout good times and bad. I realized in every hard and/or dangerous situation, God was there to see us through. Many times I’ve thought of my grandmother’s positive saying of troubling times…”Now God never promised us a rose garden!” That saying was true, but He did

Jesus was and is very familiar with hard and dangerous times here on earth. He desires that we run to Him in any times of trouble. He is diligent to bring peace and safety to us in times of great need. He is our safe Refuge, our Comforter, and always our Strength. His diligent watch-care over us makes us calm in all situations, and helps set our hearts at peace. And as we all work through these troubling times, our children will learn how to handle their own troubles by calling on the Lord for help and comfort.

promise us this: “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle Spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, But in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God…And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4: 4 – 7. I would like to encourage all my readers to continue reading this whole chapter of

Philippians 4 that Paul wrote to the church which he had just formed there in the city of Philippi around the year A.D.61 or 62. I’m giving you these facts so we may look back so long ago, to a small church and people who needed much encouragement because of troubling t i m e s t h e r e . P a u l ’s message to this small church was to lift up Christ so they all might work to be filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” Philippians 1: 11b. Those of us who are having to deal with

upsetting circumstances as these are now, must first pray and seek God for the wisdom to help our family in time of great need. We need to be wise in going to places to shop; in entering other’s homes and to be diligent in prayer for all. Of course, we also have a Savior, Jesus, who watches over us. I found this small Traditional Celtic Prayer for these days of trials: “Calm me, O Lord, as You stilled the storm. Still me, O Lord, keep me from harm. Let all the tumult within me cease, Enfold me, Lord, in your peace.”

Community Freddie Janneck Wins 38th Texas Mid-Amateur HOCKLEY – Freddie Janneck won the 38th Texas Mid-Amateur early Sunday afternoon after fending off a host of competitors at The Clubs at Houston Oaks. The Fort Worth native captures the victory with a 54-hole total of 6-under 207. Janneck’s final round was especially impressive when most of the field played over-par on S u n d a y. T h e f o r m e r Southern Mississippi University golfer started with a pair of bogeys and three birdies on his opening nine. However, his closing nine holes included some of his best golf of the week. Janneck rolled in three birdies including two on holes 16 and 17. Janneck sat eight shots

back of the lead after round one but consecutive rounds of four-under 67 pushed him to a three-shot v i c t o r y. H e w a s n ’ t expecting to win coming into this week, but his game said otherwise. “Well, the first round I just didn’t score very well. I hit it fairly well from tee to green but just didn’t get many putts to fall,” Janneck said when asked what turned after his first round. “The second round I started getting some putts to fall and that was the difference.” The win marks both Janneck’s first Texas MidAmateur and TGA Championship overall. He hopes to visit Houston Oaks again. “It’s one of the best courses I’ve played in

Texas,” said Janneck. “It’s my first time here and I hope it’s not my last.” The Southern Miss product noted that he hadn’t won anything in years but showed no signs of inexperience or nerves in Sunday’s final round. “It (the win) means everything to me,” said Janneck. “It’s been a long time since I’ve won something so it kind of came out of nowhere. I haven’t been playing that great as of late, but you know that’s golf. Sometimes you find one thing and then things click and here we are. So, it means a lot.” Aaron Hickman of Tyler and Clay Fullick of Conroe tied as runner up after finishing at threeunder 210 total for the

week. The duo also earned the Low Mid-Master honors as the top finishers over the age of 40 years old. Hickman adds the runner-up finish to his already decorated midamateur career including winning the 2020 MidAmateur Match Play Championship. The top five and ties will earn an exemption into the 113th Texas Amateur Championship at Willow Brook Country Club, Hickman’s

home course. Finishing solo fourth was last year’s champion Ryan O’Rear of Leander. The 2020 champion carded a closing 3-over 74 to post 2-under-par 211 overall. John Yerger of Dallas, William Aycock of The Woodlands, and Eric Lodge of Houston shared fifth place at 1-under 212. The TGA extends a sincere appreciation to Houston Oaks, its attentive staff and enthusiastic membership, as well as our

volunteers for all their help and support ahead of and during the 38th Texas MidAmateur. Extra special thanks to The Clubs at Houston Oaks General Manager Bob Gusella, Head Golf Professional Nick Holligan, and Director of Agronomy Jason Schoonover and his wonderful grounds crew. The 38th Texas MidAmateur would not have been possible without their efforts.
