Montgomery Wine & Music Fest 2019!

M o n t g o m e r y A r e a Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for their biggest event to date!

It's the Historic Montgomery Wine & Music Fest, located in downtown Montgomery!

Saturday, September 21, from 10am - 9pm. Wine Tastings from 11am - 7pm. This year, the event is expecting to host up to 10,000 visitors!

The festival features 16 Texas wineries showcasing 3 varietals each. "This is a very good selection and appropriately sized event e x p e r i e n c e f o r o u r customers. Any more than this, and it would be overwhelming to try them all," says Karla Nash, Wine

Tent Captain and member of the event planning team. We have a waiting list of wineries looking to participate and we keep a very high profile of wines that match our event and our customers.

The entertainment line up this year is top rated. With Season 16 The Voice winner Sundance Head as the headlining act at the Main Stage, opened by up and coming artist Kody West, and The Voice's Sarah Grace and the Soul, the Main Stage will be a huge draw for the crowds. 2 other stages will have solid line-ups as well.

When asked about the increase in attendance,

Director Shannan Reid atrributed the increase to the improved and targeted marketing as well as the great entertainment line up to boot.

"The Houston crowd has really caught onto our event, and we hope to introduce Historic Montgomery to many new friends this weekend!"

New this year will be the Frose' tent near the main stage area. This popular frozen wine slushie made from Rose' wine will beat the heat and make for a refreshing drink as guests take in the music and shop in town.

In addition to the vendors in the streets and at the community center, the

downtown merchants will be open for business and welcome all festival guests to shop with them! Come see what Montgomery is all about!

Beer is available for the non-wine drinker and the festival is free to the public to come in and walk around, shop and enjoy the music. Wine Packages are on sale around town and online in advance and they can be purchased at the event upon arrival.

Derek Pietsch and Trey Dawson Represented Texas A&M Galveston At The Carhartt Bassmaster National Championship College Series On Lake Chickamauga, Dayton Tennessee

The 864 mile trip to Dayton, Tennessee took 13 hours of driving and lots of fuel. We were both super excited to have the opportunity to fish with the best college teams in the nation. Trey and I are on our way to the Carhartt Bassmaster National Championship. We arrived on Saturday, July 27th, got settled in and unpacked our fishing gear.

We made a short trip to a town nearby and found the best tackle shop ever. It was called Fishtales. They

had everything. It had every kind of tackle there is. It was incredible. We picked up a few things we needed for the next day of pre-fishing.

On Monday Trey and I went to the gas station to fill up the truck and there was a man was sitting

down drinking coffee and he asked Trey to come sit down next to him. He asked him what tournament were we fishing and asked how the pre-fishing was going. He told Trey his name was Mark Morgan, his son was Andy Morgan, a Tennessee FLWpro. Trey didn’t really believe him till he started talking about fishing and realized he really was Andy’s dad later. He told Trey he goes there everymorning for his coffee.

This is going to be a tough tournament for Trey and I because we did not get to pre-fish this summer before the cut off date. We have 3 days to cover the lake and try to locate the fish. This is a big lake so we have lots of work to do.

We went out early Monday morning and began looking for the fish. We found several big schools but we cannot seem to get these fish to bite. Finally, we got a few fish to bite on two of the schools. They are just small ones. For 3 days Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we graphed and looked for fish.

Tuesday night we had Yamaha Pro night. The keynote speaker was Greg Stube of the U.S. Special Forces. He had some amazing stories he shared with all us. They gave us a bag full of caps, shorts, a Bassmaster Championship

tee shirt, a banner and some baits.

The College Championship will field 116 teams of anglers that represent 65 colleges and universities across the nation. Qualifications were based on the teams that finished in the top at four college tour stops held this year as well as qualifying tournaments held by B.A.S.S. Nation organizations in the states throughout the country. Tournament Day 1 Today is Thursday, the first day of the tournament. We were super excited to be here. Trey and I qualified in November at the first tournament when we won first place. Another A&M team won second place that same day and they are also

competing here. Connor Whisenant and Carter Henderson from A&M College Station are here also.. We have a total of 4 teams representing Texas A&M. They said the prayer to keep us all safe on the water and then the Bryan College coach held the flag for the national anthem. The mayor of Dayton threw the first cast to start the tournament.

The tournament director called us up one by one. We were number 98. We started off fishing deep. We did this because we thought this is where the big fish would be. I caught one of my biggest fish off one of the schools we found. Caught that one on a football jig. They just w o u l d n o t b i t e t h e

chatterbait. We swung for the fences trying to get schools out deep to bite. I had the only one that kept.

Trey and I left and wewent to fish shallow. I caught one in the grass on a chatterbait and Trey also caught 1 keeper. We caught 4 others but they were shorts. All of these were caught before 10 am and after that they shut down

and stopped biting. We only brought in 4 fish that weighed 7.5 pounds. We had lots of work to do the next day to get caught up. Tournament Day 2 To start the day off today, the Dayton Fire Department rolled in with their big ladder truck extended the United States flag over the water. A prayer was also said to keep us all safe on the water. Today we needed to catch a big bag to make up for yesterday. We started by fishing the grasses in thes a m e s p o t s . U s i n g chatterbaits we fished the shallow water in the grasses. Trey was reeling in his chatterbait and had it next to the boat. The fish went to jump while Trey was trying to hold him down and he threw the hook. It was a grind all day. At the first spot we caught 3 keepers. We left and went to another spot and caught 2 more keepers. It was Ten o’clock and they stopped

biting. At the end of the day we had 5 fish but we did not have the weight we neededto get into the top 12.

The top 12 fish again on Saturday and it is narrowed to the top 4 teams. The top 4 teams advance to the Bassmaster College Classic Bracket to held Aug 27-29 at Watts Bar Lake, which is also in Tennessee. These anglers will compete individually in a head to head format. There with a b e r t h i n t h e 2 0 2 0 Bassmaster Classic at Lake Guntersville going to the winning angler.

We had a great time and we ended up coming in 56th place with 19.11 pounds. We are happy we made it to the National Championship and look forward to coming again next year. Thanks to Shipley Do-Nuts and Big D Marine, our families and friends for all your support and cheering us on at the tournament. Throw it out, Pop it in, Fish On !!!

Stage Right’s Wild Women At The Crighton Theater Is A Continuous “LAUGH-A-THON!!”

By “Doc” Fennessy

One of Stage Right of Texas’s premier Show Directors Dinah Mahlman brought the pre- Broadway comedy “THE WILD WOMEN OF WINEDALE;” to life on the Crighton Theater’s stage as a tremendous success!

Hey folks, if you want a delightful and fun “evening-out-at-the-theater” you have a terrific choice of on stage fun with the “ F i n a l e s , ” { F r i d a y, Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Sunday Matinees} of Stage Right of Texas’s hilarious

“THE W I L D W O M E N O F WINEDALE;” with Show Director Dinah Mahlman at the historic Crighton Theater in Conroe on September 20, 21 & 22. For tickets call Toni Stowe in the Crighton Theater Box-office daily between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. at: (936) 441-7469.

Additionally, you have The Players Theater Company’s powerfully entertaining Musical- C o m e d y c l a s s i c , “MAMMA MIA;” playing at the Owen Theater in Conroe on September 20,

21 & 22 with Amy Barnes “up-in-the-Director ’s Chair.” For tickets call the Owen Theater Box-office daily between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. at: (936) 539- 4090.

We did the “Review” of MAMMA MIA three weeks ago. I attended the opening Night of the Stage Right’s “THE WILD W O M E N

O F WINEDALE;” in the historic Crighton Theater.

Again, led by that multi-award-winning extraordinaire entertainer Carolyn Corsano Wong the cast was fantastic in every variable!!!

These actresses with years of theatrical experience took that script and put on a magnificent professional performance in bringing the tale to real life on the C r i g h t o n T h e a t e r s ’ legendary stage!!!

This is another “winner”

for Producers Steven and C a r o l y n Wo n g , a n d e s p e c i a l l y t h e t h r e e “Playwriters”.

This show opening with the Stage Right Troupe at the Crighton Theatre will move on to New York in an Off- Broadway Theater and then will graduate” up to one of the major theaters on the “Great-White-Way”.

Well folks, several previous members of the audiences agree with me that Playwriters Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten have another winner!! Terrific Opening Night show – the timing was perfect with no quiet lapses in the way of the dialogue.

Very good vocal-motor coordination as the characters moved about the stage. The acting was at professional status. Best of all was the actors’ script! This was a contagious laugh every halfminutewith the quick “oneliners” erupting earsplitting laughter, whistling and loud applause!!!

T h i s c o m e d y w a s exceedingly thought out r e l a t i v e t o r e a l i s t i c situations and the authors have a ragingly-wild situation and hilarious script that will, I repeat, actually reach one of the “Great White Way’s” theatres – this will be a bigtime seller because the word will spread throughout the Broadway’s scene’s “Variety’s” publication, newspapers, restaurants, bars and social clubs.

No question about it – the three playwrights have a real bigtime Money Winner in this show.

I would strongly suggest that you readers obtain tickets for one of this weekend’s shows at a family price before it moves on to Broadway and Las Vegas.

Some tickets are still available by calling Toni Stowe in the theater’s Boxoffice daily between 3:00

and 6:00 p.m. at: (936) 441- 7469.
