Texas Four-Year-Old Charlie Haydon SHSU Weekly Recognized As Market Street’s Gas Prices 2021 “Lighting Luminary”

(November 15, 2021) Texas gas prices have fallen 2.2 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.03/g today, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Gas prices in Texas are 8.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand $1.23/g higher than a year ago. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas is priced at $2.59/g today while the most expensive is $3.89/g, a difference of $1.30/g. The lowest price in the state today is $2.59/g while the highest is $ 3 . 8 9 / g , a d i ff e r e n c e o f $1.30/g. The national average price of gasoline has fallen 2.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.40/g today. The national average is up 9.5 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands $1.28/g higher than a year ago. Neighboring areas and their current gas prices: Midland Odessa- $3.08/g, down 4.2 cents per gallon from last week's $3.12/g. San Antonio- $2.87/g, down 4.0 cents per gallon from last week's $2.91/g. Austin- $2.95/g, down 2.7 cents per gallon from last week's $2.98/g. "As of Sunday evening, the national average price of gasoline posted its first weekly decline in months. As the price of oil continues to struggle, Covid cases flare up and anxiety over demand starts rising, motorists are likely to see the declines continuing into this week," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. "While it's not known how long market conditions will continue to push gas prices down, it appears that the fall should last through Thanksgiving, just in time for millions of Americans to prepare to hit the road for the holiday. However, the damage may already be done. According to GasBuddy's Thanksgiving Travel Survey, being released tomorrow, a significant portion of Americans say the high gas prices already led them to rethink their plans." GasBuddy is the authoritative voice for gas prices and the only source for station-level data spanning nearly two decades. Unlike AAA's once daily survey covering credit card transactions at 100,000 stations and the Lundberg Survey, updated once every two weeks based on 7,000 gas stations, GasBuddy's survey updates 288 times every day from the most diverse list of sources covering nearly 150,000 stations nationwide, the most comprehensive and up-to-date in the country. Suggestions for Mindful Eating: Top 5 Longevity Foods to Postpone Aging Food for Thought Diana Anderson

DianaCAnderson@ gmail.com

In a new book called Radical Longevity the author, Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman, took a good hard look at the longest living populations from Okinawa, Japan, and Sardinia, Italy, to Costa Rica, Greece, Loma Linda, California, and the Ashkenazi Jews from Eastern Europe. What were they doing differently she queried. Was it just good genes? Apparently not, because, according to a Danish population-based Twin Study on health, genetics only accounts for about 20 percent to 30 percent of longevity factors. So, she concluded, “your DNA is simply not your destiny!” Long life is all about diet and lifestyle. Superagers, people who live notably long lives, tend to eat fewer calories but enjoy nutrient-dense, wholesome, unprocessed foods. They stop eating when they feel about 80 percent full, eat more slowly, and enjoy meals as a time to pause and relax during the day. So, what could be easier than eating your way to a longer, more vibrant life? Here are her top five longevity foods that superagers enjoy on a daily or weekly basis. Consider incorporating them as much as possible, which isn’t hard because they’re also delicious. 1. Blueberries Blueberries are a favorite fruit for living long and strong. These tiny berries are bursting with vitality. Blueberries are low in calories but higher in cell-protecting antioxidants—including

Charlie from page 1 For additional information on Market Street, visit https://shopatmarketstreet. com. About Trademark Property Company Trademark Property Company is a full-service real estate firm focused on investments, development and institutional services of experiential, mixed-use and daily needs properties. In its 27 years of business, Fort Worth, Texas-based Trademark has invested in, developed or redeveloped 18 million square feet of

the powerful cholesterol fighter resveratrol—than any other common fruit or vegetable. Just one cup of blueberries contains more than 25 percent of the recommended daily amount of vitamin C and 4 grams of fiber as well as vitamin K and manganese to help prevent osteoporosis and joint inflammation. They contain significant amounts of both antibacterial and antiviral compounds and may even help protect you from heart disease and cancer. The tannins in blueberries serve to cleanse the digestive system and promote a healthy urinary tract by preventing bacterial growth. They contain insoluble fiber, which prevents their total calories from being absorbed. And they’re naturally sweet, but their low amount of fructose makes them a perfect, guilt-free snack for satisfying a sweet tooth. 2. Broccoli Broccoli needs to be high on your list of healthy veggies if you care to have better eyesight, lower your risk of heart disease and cancer, and renew the youthful glow of your skin. High in antioxidants, sulfur, and vitamin C, broccoli is an excellent detoxifier. It also contains omega 3s, amino acids, and folate to keep your skin radiant. Rich in betacarotene, phosphorus, zeaxanthin, and B vitamins, broccoli is excellent for protecting your eyes from age-related diseases such as macular degeneration and cataracts. If that’s not enough to send you into the kitchen to steam some broccoli for dinner, how about its ability to help regulate blood pressure?? It’s high in chromium, which helps insulin to function properly

by regulating blood sugar and helping to keep blood pressure in check. Broccoli also can’t be beat for its immune systemstrengthening minerals such as selenium, zinc, phosphorus, and copper. And did you know that broccoli is an excellent source of calcium? It provides 47 milligrams of calcium per 100 grams to help prevent osteoporosis or other weakening of the bones and teeth. D o n ’t f o rg e t f r e s h broccoli sprouts! They contain the highest known source of vital phytonutrients, indole-3carbinol and sulforaphane, which aid the liver in its ability to process and neutralize toxins. Our b o d y ’s d e t o x i f i c a t i o n system is broken down into two phases. In phase one, detoxifying enzymes begin to process the metabolites. In phase two, the enzymes process metabolites, which are broken down so they can easily be excreted out of your body. Sulforaphane increases the production of phase two enzymes, protecting DNA from free radicals and promoting immune system health. With the ability to affect more than 2,000 genes, activating numerous defense mechanisms, and neutralizing free radicals, sulforaphane is an extremely potent toxicity zapper. 3. Beets Beets are one of the most regenerative foods for your body, making them longevity rock stars well worth adding to your daily diet. Beets aid in digestion, thin the bile, cleanse the liver, alkalize the blood, and even improve cognitive function and sports performance. They are rich in potassium, m a n g a n e s e , c o p p e r, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin C, iron, folate,

vitamin B6, nitrates, fiber—and more. The betalains in beets partner with glutathione to help your body detoxify. If you’re concerned about weight loss, beets are your best friend because of their benefits for your liver and gallbladder. They contain betaine, which thins the bile that your liver uses to excrete toxins and helps to break down fats so they can be used for fuel, instead of padding your hips and thighs. Bile deficiency is very common for those of us over 60 and especially more so for those without a gallbladder. For those with their gallbladder intact, betaine also helps prevent gallstones. And it even increases serotonin, helping to boost your mood. I like to buy the already cooked beets that come in a shrink-wrapped package in the produce section but buying them fresh is not a bad option. Just boil them with a bit of lemon juice or vinegar to prevent bleeding for about 45minutes and the skins peel right off. 4. Barley The most interesting finding of all was regarding barley. It was the most common grain eaten by the super-agers and I wondered why. I knew it was rich in soluble fiber and it was also a great Names are still being accepted by the Montgomery County Ve t e r a n s M e m o r i a l Commission, by going to their website. source of magnesium, but what I discovered is that it is also one of the highest known food sources of silica (a major antagonist to aluminum). Hulled barley is considered a whole grain, as only the outer shell has been removed during processing, whereas the more commonly available pearled barley isn’t a whole grain because the fibercontaining bran has been removed. Keep that in mind as you consider adding this lovely grain to your cereal, soups, and stews, and even as a base for hummus. The benefits of wholegrain barley stem from not only its fiber content, but also its phytonutrients, which are plant compounds with significant health benefits, like being antioxidants. In barley, these phytonutrients support immunity and are neuroprotective, antiinflammatory, anti-aging hormone regulating. 5. Beans Last, but not least, another common food eaten by super-agers is none other than beans. It comes as no huge surprise that beans are one of the highest fiber-containing foods on earth. Several studies have shown that fiber-rich foods regulate blood-sugar levels, reduce

the risk of heart disease and stroke, help control obesity, breast, and colon cancer, and gastrointestinal disorders. A n d i t ’s c r i t i c a l l y important to note that without adequate soluble fiber, bile is recirculated in our body rather than being ushered out of the body. When this happens, it becomes toxic and often leads to intestinal inflammation, gallbladder, and liver disease, and skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and acne. Adding beans to your diet can be one of the most important health habits you can incorporate because of their nutrient and fiber content. To reduce some of the problems of eating beans and to reduce lectins that could be problematic pre-soaking is advised. Soak for at least 12 hours before cooking and add apple cider vinegar to the water. The addition of baking soda is said to boost lectin neutralization. And cooking beans for at least 15 minutes on high heat is said to reduce lectin toxicity by 500 percent. Eden canned beans are the only canned beans I am aware of that have been soaked. May you live to 110 and enjoy these five “B-foods” listed above to boost your longevity, optimize health, and live your best life!

Weekly Columns

2021 Estate Planning Checkup: Is Your Estate Plan Up to Date? A weekly column by Kent Pendleton

Here are a few things to keep in mind when updating your estate plan. 1. Changes in Residency Have you moved to a new state recently? Estate laws vary in different states-the status of marital property, rules on executors & powers of attorney, etc. so it’s a good idea to review your estate plan to make sure that it complies with local laws & regulations. You should also update your address & keep your family & adviser informed about where your documents are held. 2. Law Changes Estate laws change over time. You should review your estate plan to see if it has been affected by changes to any state or federal laws like exemption limits, gift tax, probate & more. In some cases, you may want to update your

plan in light of recent law changes. For example, with the SECURE Act recently eliminating the stretch IRA, many should be revisiting their estate plans. There is a significant tax difference on withdrawing money from an inherited IRA in just 10 years, vs. over 20+ years as was allowed in the past. 3. General Power of Attorney Have you designated a general power of attorney? This is the person you authorize to act on your behalf to make business, personal, legal or financial decisions if you become incapacitated. You should make sure that this designation is up to date & accurate. You should also review your appointed agents & confirm that your successor agents are good backups. If you’ve revoked the general power of attorney from a prior agent, keep thorough written records. If you need to revoke a power of attorney, you will want to put that in writing & notify the proper

parties. 4. Health Care Power of Attorney You should also review & update your health care power of attorney. In most cases, it makes sense to appoint someone who lives near you to be your agent for this role. If you plan to undergo any health procedures shortly, you should review the medical institution’s Health Care POA form. It’s also good to make your wishes clear about do-not-resuscitate (DNR) provisions & clue your health care POA in on your decisions. You should also affirm any clearly expressed wishes regarding your end-of-life treatment options. 5. Last Will & Testament Yo u r l a s t w i l l & testament is one of the essential pieces of your estate plan. You should review the details of your will, including your executor, the allocation of your estate & inheritance tax burden, & the plan for any digital assets &

We Live In The Midst Of Angels O k l a h o m a Tu r n p i k e . Years before my father in law had purchased U-hall trailers to put into a rental fleet. We decided to remove them when they came close enough to home. Two of them made their way to Stillwater so I decided to bring them back home to Texas. We hooked them up in tandem and began our journey at about four on Saturday afternoon. The weather was beautiful and dry, and the traffic modest on the Turnpike. Everything was almost perfect except the bumping and swaying of two trailers. As we headed West and the Oklahoma Hills became steeper and longer; the car and trailers became more unmanageable. On a Long downhill stretch the trailers lifted the rear auto wheels off the pavement pushing us across the road center and two lanes of oncoming traffic. We ended up against the fence of the Eastbound. There were eight or ten cars, trucks, eighteen-wheelers and a large wrecker surrounding my car and two trailers. Some were as close as a foot away from us. Not one vehicle was scratched, and no one moved for some time. As people emerged from the mess, not a disparaging word was heard. It was as If we’d all been part of a Twilight Zone encounter. The wrecker pulled those needing out of the sand--no charge. No Highway Patrol came by or was summoned. We thanked God for saving us and collectively went our ways. I consider the incident a blessing, a miracle, an assemblage of Angels Up until we lived in England, I had never knowingly seen an Angel, but to this day I’m sure Pat and I were blessed by a

7. Gifting Opportunities Gifting opportunities are another critical feature of your estate plan. Because laws surrounding gifts can change over time, it’s essential to review any gifts & update them accordingly. You may also want to change specific gifts or recipients. Conroe Symphony Prepares for Christmas Concert

The student was ferrying his friends from his home to the train station when he ran into a bridge abutment. Derek was throw through the windscreen and taken to a hospital in the vicinity. It was almost midnight when we received the call telling us of the accident and giving us the name of the Hospital. We were devastated; we were strangers to the whole area and didn’t know in which direction to begin. We started driving on a dark cold night with snow covering the area. I suppose hoping to see a Bobby to give us directions. Dark road after dark road was driven with no help in sight, when this disheveled person dressed in black appeared seemingly out of nowhere. Normally on a dark frightening road we would have driven by thankful not to be accosted; not tonight, for we must ask directions! The man climbed into the back seat and told us he knew the way to the hospital. He didn’t talk much but his directions were spot on. We arrived at the hospital and as we parked he exited and was gone before we realized! Weekly Column by Doyle Driver doyledriver@yahoo.com Some people claim to believe in Angles, others say Angels don’t exist. Some people say they’ve seen Angels and others say those who’ve seen them are hallucinating! I happen to be of the former persuasion and feel very strongly that Angels do exist. I’m sure Angels have been protecting me practically every minute of my life. I can’t actually prove it, other than the fact I’m still here! The first time an Angle stepped up to the plate and saved me was in the winter of 1933. I was all of six or seven says old when DR. jones pronounced to Mother and Daddy that I had an extreme case of pneumonia. I don’t recall the occasion, but my Parents and Siblings related the story to me many times as grew up. The next Angel rescue occurred when I was two. Daddy and his farm helper were the field plowing with two teams of horses. The helper came in a few minutes earlier with his team. The minute he unharnessed the team he came to the house and carried me to the barn as he did his feeding chores. Uncle Joe, as everyone called him, became busy for a minute and forgot me. I wanted to see Dad so I ran down the road to meet him. It was getting dark so I hid behind tall green cotton stalks in order to surprise him. When they were about five or ten away--I jumped in front of a sixhorse team to surprise Dad. That’s when God’s Angel stepped in. Normally a startled team of horses would bolt and run. This time they seem to freeze in place! When Dad picked me up, there was no scolding--just hugs against his trembling chest on the way to the corral. The next Angel occurrence came twentysix years later on the

Trusts If you have a revocable living trust, you should review trustee & successor appointments. You should also check your estate & inheritance tax burden. While most of us will not face estate tax issue based on the current exemption amounts, many of us could have state estate or inheritance tax issues at a much lower net worth level. You should review your state’s estate & inheritance tax limit. If you have an irrevocable trust, confirm that the trustee properly carries out their duties like administration, management, & annual tax returns.

Only 32% of Americans to Drive as Thanksgiving Gas Prices Near Most Expensive Ever November 16, 2021 Over half of Americans cite high gas prices for tapping the brakes on travel, survey indicates 51% fewer to travel for Thanksgiving compared to 2019 While the economy may be bouncing back, Thanksgiving travel is not. GasBuddy, the leading fuel savings platform providing North American drivers with the most ways to save money on gas, revealed in its 2021 Annual T h a n k s g i v i n g Tr a v e l Survey that 32% of Americans plan to travel for Thanksgiving this year,

a decline from 35% last year that compares to some 65% that planned to hit the road for Thanksgiving 2019. The national average price of gasoline is projected to decline to $3.35 per gallon on Thanksgiving Day, still amongst the highest we’ve seen in over seven years. But there remains a remote chance that should oil suddenly surge, gas prices could quickly follow and potentially beat 2012’s record for most expensive national average ever for the date: $3.44 per gallon. “Similarly to last year,

motorists are contending with a rise in Covid cases ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday when many drive to celebrate with friends and family. Only this year, we’re also just cents away from the highest Thanksgiving gas prices ever recorded,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “With global oil demand surging this year as the pandemic has eased, we find ourselves in unfamiliar territory - some of the highest Thanksgiving gas prices on record. Americans are responding to the prices by slamming the car door shut and staying off the road.” Seventy-five percent of Americans also say that Covid-19 has had no impact on their holiday p l a n s t h i s y e a r, u p substantially from last

year’s 46%. Yet, even less are traveling this year than in 2020. Fifty percent of Americans say they are driving less overall this year, and when asked what it would take for them to drive more, an overwhelming 78% said lower gas prices. Those who are traveling are opting for shorter trips, with most (13%) expecting to spend 1-3 hours in the car. When it comes to making a rest stop, decent gas prices remained of most importance to those selecting, though location and convenience rose above the rest stop’s cleanliness in 2021’s results. GasBuddy offers these travel tips for those who are t r a v e l i n g f o r Thanksgiving: * Use the GasBuddy app to watch for price

differences between state lines: Gas prices can vary as much as $20 per tank in some areas of the country between state lines. * Use a gas discount card like Pay with GasBuddy® to lower your gas bill by as much as 25 cents per gallon. According to this year’s survey, 67% of Americans will be using a gas card or gas loyalty program when they fill up. Methodology: GasBudd y analyzed 1474 responses to its 2021 Thanksgiving Tr a v e l S u r v e y f r o m October 28- Nov 1, 2021. About GasBuddy GasBuddy is the leading fuel savings platform providing North American drivers with the most ways to save money on gas. Sen. Cruz Introduces Legislation to Repeal Infrastructure Bill’s “Devastating Attack” on Emerging Cryptocurrency Industry The provision will stifle innovation, endanger the privacy of many Americans and cryptocurrencies, and likely push key aspects of the industry overseas to countries like China WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (RTexas) this week introduced legislation that would repeal an overly broad and poorly-crafted provision from the infrastructure package that creates new reporting requirements for many participants within the blockchain industry. This provision will stifle innovation in the industry, endanger the privacy of many Americans and

cryptocurrencies, and likely push key aspects of the industry overseas to countries like China. Upon introduction of this bill, Sen. Cruz said: “The Lone Star State has quickly emerged as the main hub for the cryptocurrency industry, and that exciting industry is now in danger of being stifled and driven overseas by an overreaching provision in this newlysigned, reckless spending package. As a deliberative body, the Senate should have done its job and held hearings to properly understand the consequences of legislating on

this emerging industry before we risked the livelihoods and privacy of participating Americans. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to repeal this harmful language that will create regulatory uncertainty and in turn an unnecessary barrier to innovation.” BACKGROUND In August, Sen. Cruz led his colleagues in introducing an amendment to the infrastructure package that would remove this harmful language. As originally drafted, the infrastructure package

contains a provision that expands the definition of “Broker” to nearly all participants in the cryptocurrency structure, treating them as a financial institution, which means they would have to report consumer information to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), even if these participants do not have access to that information. This mandate to collect names, addresses, and transactions of customers means almost every company even tangentially related to cryptocurrency may suddenly be forced to surveil their users.

Governor Abbott Touts Limited Government, Individual Liberty, Free Enterprise AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today delivered remarks touting limited government, individual liberty, and free enterprise in the State of Texas at The Goodman Institute for Public Policy Research Gala in Dallas. The Governor also received the Institute's Antony Fisher Award at the event, which honors the recipient for excellence in promoting entrepreneurship, community service, limited government, individual liberty, and free enterprise.

During his remarks, the Governor also touted the Lone Star State's robust economy and world-class business climate that continues to attract businesses and families. In addition, Governor Abbott highlighted achievements of the 87th Legislative Session and thanked the Institute for their leadership to promote free markets and personal liberty in Texas and across the nation. "Texas proudly leads the nation in so many ways because we continue to

advance common sense reforms and limited government policies," said Governor Abbott. "Throughout the COVID19 pandemic, we recognized the need to not only protect the health of Texans, but to also protect their livelihoods. As a result, Texas is leading America's economic recovery. During the 87th Legislative Session, we passed laws that keeps Texas the promised land for businesses and families, including securing COVID-19 liability

protections, providing property tax relief, cutting regulations, and expanding telehealth and broadband access across the state. Charting a course towards a healthier, more prosperous future in the Lone Star State would not be possible without the hard work of policy leaders like John Goodman and the Goodman Institute, and I look forward to our continued work together to keep Texas the beacon of freedom and prosperity in America."

DWI Team Continues Success Amidst Tough Circumstances Montgomery County PCT 4 Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden’s DWI Unit arrested seven more impaired drivers over the weekend, including yet another person who chose to assault officers during their investigation. Just before 11:00 PM on Saturday (11/13/2021), A PCT 4 DWI Unit responded to assist RFPD (Roman Forest Police Department) with a single-vehicle crash at Roman Forest Blvd. and Chariot Ln. Upon their

arrival, Units saw the male driver, later identified as 47-year-old Agapito Salinas, from Houston, TX, trying to push his car out of the ditch. While officers were asking Salinas what had happened, he became very threatening and aggressive, which escalated into him kicking both officers repeatedly. Additional Units arrived on scene a short time later, and were able to assist in getting Salinas detained. There were no serious injuries

reported. Salinas was one of seven DWI arrests made by PCT 4 this past weekend. Even though the other six were fairly uneventful, it’s not uncommon for impaired drivers to lash out at Deputies both vocally and often times physically. Just a couple of weeks ago, PCT 4 DWI Units were bitten and spit on by a female DWI suspect. And just like her, Salinas was arrested on additional charges of Assault on a Public Servant. ”Alcohol and/or

drugs definitely affects people’s driving and decisions,” stated Constable Hayden. “This often leads to violent attacks on our Deputies on the side of the road. Despite that, they continue to put on their uniform and patrol our roadways. I’m proud of the work our DWI Unit is doing to make East Montgomery County a safer place to live and drive.”

Devotional THE PRESENCE OF GOD IS EVERYWHERE - FROM SEA TO SEA Spreading the Word

By Gail J. Box Gailbox@consolidated.net

I can truthfully say that as my husband and I are taking Gulf cruises frequently, God is with us. Each time we go, we find wonderful people hungry for the Lord. I’m speaking of even those from many other countries who are open and eager to meet and serve our Father, God. With Him, there are no boundaries between countries. I’m not talking about kings and dignitaries. I’m most

excited about our meeting the waiters and waitresses from many other countries imaginable. For instance, the Philippines, France, Indonesia, Mexico, India, Africa, C h i n a , Ve n e z u e l a , Sweden, and yes, even from Madagascar! We have never met such polite and h a p p y, y o u n g a n d dedicated people who want to serve and help us in any and every way. They are the workers who want to talk about who Jesus is. So we go on board with many small New Testaments to leave them in the hands of new believers.

Each one of the people who served us had many different things to share with us about their families and situations. All worked very hard, and many asked for prayers as they were far from home. They were so pleasant and really captured our hearts. All were happy, and we enjoyed seeing them, every day. As I mentioned in the title this week, surely God is everywhere. We love riding the big ships – nine or ten stories high. It’s quite an adventure for elders, but God is keeping us safe and well in His Presence. I know He is with us in every nautical

mile we take. I was reminded during our trip of what Jesus told His disciples before He went into heaven. He said this: “And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” Mark 16:15. So we see the Presence of God is truly everywhere – on land and on the seas. There is no place we can go on this earth where God’s Spirit can’t reach. Didn’t His Spirit reach Paul and Silas in jail as they sang songs? And didn’t God’s Spirit protect Paul from a terrible shipwreck? Yes!

And doesn’t His Spirit still keep us from harm until He is ready to receive us? Oh, yes! There is no doubt that revival is on the move in the U. S. right now. We take God’s word with us on our trips because there are hungry hearts ready to hear His word. Read what David says about His presence: “O, LORD, in Your strength the king will be glad, and in Your salvation how greatly he will rejoice! He asked life of You, You gave it to him, length of days forever and ever. His glory is great through Your salvation, splendor and majesty You

place upon him. For You make him most blessed forever; You make him joyful with gladness in Your presence.” Psalm 21: 1 & 4-6. There are many times when we may have a “feeling” of the presence of the Lord in our prayers, songs, and supplications. There are times when His presence is full of joy. Peter, in the book of Acts, quotes David as saying this: “You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of gladness with Your presence.” Acts 2: 28.
