Denver Texas The Annual “Christmas John Music Weekly In Historic Montgomery” Coming To The Barnhill Gas Prices (November 23, 2020) Texas gas prices have fallen 1.1 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $1.78/g today, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 13,114 stations. Gas prices in Texas are 6.4 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 46.1 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas is priced at $1.44/g today while the most expensive is $2.69/g, a difference of $1.25/g. The lowest price in the state today is $1.44/g while the highest is $2.69/g, a difference of $1.25/g. The national average price of gasoline has fallen 1.5 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $ 2 . 1 0 / g t o d a y. T h e national average is down 5.0 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 49.6 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. Neighboring areas and their current gas prices: Midland Odessa$1.93/g, down 7.6 cents per gallon from last week's $2.00/g. San Antonio- $1.65/g, down 4.8 cents per gallon from last week's $1.70/g. Austin- $1.68/g, down 2.1 cents per gallon from last week's $1.70/g. “With Thanksgiving nearly upon us and fewer Americans hitting the road, gas prices have seen some downward movement over the last week, even as oil prices hold near recent highs," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. "We may end up seeing the lowest Thanksgiving prices in five years if prices continue to trend lower this week, a sign of how the coronavirus has sapped demand for the majority of the year. Between now and the end of the year, we aren't likely to see many fireworks at the pump as demand continues to remain well below prior years, but as a vaccine is set to be released in the months ahead, prices will likely aim for higher ground, so motorists take heed that today's prices may not hold for much longer." Where the Holidays Begin!

S A V E T H E DATE—DECEMBER 12, 2020 By Bea Rouse 936.524.054 Montgomery County’s oldest Christmas celebration has activities not found anywhere else in the area. Do not miss this wonderful day full of events to create memories and fun for every family member, in downtown Historic Montgomery, one of Texas’ oldest towns—the birthplace of the Texas flag. The Montgomery Historical Society, founded in the 1950s, produces the Society’s only fundraising event, with proceeds going toward maintaining the seven historic buildings owned by the Society. The strolling carolers, residents in period dress, coupled with the oldfashioned decorations in the historic buildings on the tour, will make you feel you have stepped back to the mid-1800’s when Montgomery was the county seat. T h e C i t y o f Montgomery is sponsoring the parade which begins at

an earlier time this year: 9:00 a.m. It will start on Liberty St. and head north across Eva St., then will wind through the downtown historic area. For safety reasons, no candy is allowed to be thrown from the floats—parade walkers will hand out wet to the crowds. (The deadline has passed to apply to be in the parade.) City Hall: 936.597.6434. B r e n h a m , Te x a s : Today’s top performer of John Denver music, Jim Curry, will perform at The Barnhill Center at Historic Simon Theatre (TBC) on Friday November 27th. Denver’s vast legacy of multi-platinum hits will be featured in the show. “The music of the late John Denver is like an old friend, outlasting trends and standing the test of time,” said Sharon Brass, producer of TBC shows. “Jim Curry and his band bring back the music we all love with close authenticity to Denver’s arrangements and delivery.” “John Denver was a mega-celebrity when the world was looking for hope in the late 1960’s.” said Curry. “His lyrics in songs like Take me Home Country Roads gave America a new lift abroad as well as at home. “I believe that John’s words still ring true in these challenging times. People all over the world are drawn to his message of caring for our planet and each other. I try to perform these songs in the same spirit, because I have the same heartfelt desire to make a difference.” “Jim Curry is not your t y p i c a l Ve g a s - s t y l e impersonator,” said Brass. “In fact, he is not an impersonator at all. He sings in his own natural voice, which by pleasant coincidence, closely resembles the simple and true essence of John Denver’s voice.” Curry performs to soldout crowds throughout North America. His was the first and only full-length John Denver tribute in Las Vegas Casinos, a favorite time after time. He was also one of the most popular shows on the Holland America Cruise Line. Curry’s voice is heard throughout the soundtrack of CBS’s movie, Take Me Home: The John Denver Story. He often performs with John Denver’s former band members. Since 2009 he has taken his show to a new level by performing with symphony orchestras. TBC asks for social distancing and guests must wear masks while not in their seats. Restrooms, railings, door handles and other public surfaces will be sanitized often throughout events. Tickets for all shows can be purchased by calling or visiting TBC Box Office (address and phone number below). While social distancing is in place, tickets cannot be purchased online. “If any shows are canceled or rescheduled due to Covid-19, we will immediately contact ticket holders. Their tickets will be valid for the new dates or, if preferred, they can get refunds.” “We are always grateful for our sponsors, Mrs. Teddy Boehm, John and Lori Hasskarl, and Barry and Nancy Leaton,” said Jennifer Eckermann, Tourism and Marketing Director for the City of Brenham. “Their support is key to our continued operation, especially in these difficult times.” For show details, ticket information, volunteer and sponsor opportunities: www.theBarnhillCenter.co m/events or 979-337-7240.

Suggestions For Mindful Eating: Best Leftover Turkey Soup Food for Thought Diana Anderson

DianaCAnderson@ gmail.com

This soup became something of a family addiction when we first encountered it at a ski resort in Colorado. It was served in one of those mountaintop warming huts that offered food, drinks and rest to skiers. I will

forever think of it as cold weather comfort food and I think you will agree once you make it. Over the years I have made it with the leftover turkey from Thanksgiving and it is a perfect fit. It is simple to make taking only 15 minutes to prep although it needs an hour to cook so the wild rice will be done. I begin by taking the turkey carcass once the meat has been cut away and putting

it in a stock pot with water to cover. Simmer for an hour and you will have a nice broth. A bit nicer if you can drop in a sliced carrot, celery, onion or bay leaf at the beginning. If you do, you will remove them before using in the soup. Either way this is a complete one-pot meal that doesn’t really need any sides in my opinion but a salad is always welcome. Creamy Turkey with

pound) 1 cup wild rice uncooked (or mixed wild 2 t. butter 1 cup carrot, chopped rice) 1 cup onion, chopped 1/3 cup all purpose 1 cup green onion, flour 2 3/4 cups milk chopped 2 T dry sherry 1 t. fresh rosemary, ½ t. salt chopped or ¼ t. dried rosemary ¼ t. black pepper 1. Melt butter in Dutch 3 cloves garlic, minced Oven (heavy pot) over 32 oz. turkey broth (or medium heat and add carrot and next 5 boxed chicken broth) 1 ½ c u p s t u r k e y ingredients; sauté until leftovers, cubed (~3/4 light brown Wild Rice Soup

2. Stir in broth scraping pot to loosen browned bits. 3. Stir in turkey and rice; cover and simmer 1 hour or until rice is tender (this depends on the type of rice you use). 4. Combine flour and milk in a small bowl stirring with a whisk to prevent lumps. 5. Add flour/milk mixture to pot and cook over medium low heat about 8 minutes until thick. 6. Stir in sherry and salt

Because everything Susie does,

she does with CLASS~ Recently, she told me that there are two things “I am devoted to, and this Christmas Silver Tea is the other one!” Susie related to me about a local Christmas function which honors

those who have lovingly dressed the dolls and bears for the Salvation Army toy distribution Christmas Children’s program. Many of the Dolls and bears are dressed like the elite fashions of Walden’s Lee Vanderpool. Folks, there are hundreds of these dolls, dolls and more dolls along with black bear, brown bears, Teddy bears and you might even find a fuzzy Polar bear in the lot. The event will be h e l d o n S u n d a y, December 6th, 2020, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. At the First Baptist Church, Herrington Hall, 600 N. Main Street in Conroe. Susie Pokorski recommends to all her audience and participants that they attend this special Christmas function for the Children. Hey folks, with everything so dead around here socially, this will be a good way to get into the Christmas spirit and help the kids out also. The organizers have taken into consideration the safety factor of “social distancing and wearing masks.”

The local Salvation Army will hold their Annual Christmas Silver D o l l a n d B e a r Te a . Suann Hereford, the event organizer said that, “Even with the pandemic uncertainties, we just had to find a way to continue our 34 year old Christmas tradition for the Salvation Army! We want to honor all the wonderful folks who dressed the dolls and bears for this event to raise money for this worthy cause, as well as for the toy distribution.” Suann went on to say that “Our usual event is held in the lovely home of a local supporter, but that is impossible to do with social distancing. We are so blessed that the First Baptist Church stepped up to provide an ideal venue for us to celebrate, almost as usual.

Safety precautions will be in place and masks are required. There will be social distancing, flowing from table to table instead of the close mixed mingling one would experience in a home setting, but guests will be able to see all the dolls and bears and select their favorites to purchase for $25. There will be about 300 dolls and bears on display and available for purchase for $25 each with another 24 dolls and bears featured in a silent auction during the Salvation Army Doll and Bear Tea. Cash, checks and credit card will be accepted. The need in our community is great this year with requests for assistance already topping 1500 children and 400 senior citizens. The

Unfortunately, There Are Too Many Critical Lessons We Learned About Fraudulent Elections TOO LATE! Walden Happenings By Doc Fennessy The opinions expressed in this editorial do not necessarily reflect those of MCN.

W A L D E N HAPPENINGS Well folks, as the famous baseball player Yogi Berra said-“It all aint over until its over!” And so, the beat goes on until the United States Supreme Court says so! The following article; “Here Are the Lessons We’ve Learned So Far From the 2020 Election,” written by Audry Perry Martin, was published on November 12th in The Heritage Foundation’s Daily Signal. It is a powerful analogue of lessons learned, “… but the truth came too Late!” Audry Perry Martin, is an author at The Daily Signal, and is an election attorney and the vicepresident for communications at the Republican National Lawyers Association. Folks, Audry has written several articles the essence of honesty and responsibility as American citizens the right to vote in a free and fair election is the most basic civil right. Protecting that right is critical. Knowing today’s dangers and proposed safeguards is essential for every citizen. Congress and the states must ensure that all eligible Americans are able to vote and that their votes are not stolen by fraud or lost through administrative errors. Every American must be able to trust the process and the results. Without that trust, the democratic system itself breaks down. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxx Again, the article that follows, “There Are Too Many Critical Lessons We Learned About Fraudulent Elections” - is all Audry Perry Martin’s unabridged words “ D r e a d i n g

Thanksgiving Conversations? Keep These 3 Points in Mind for a Civil Discussion. Here Are the Lessons We’ve Learned So Far From the 2020 Election. Again folks, the article that follows, is all Audry Perry Martin’s unabridged words throughout. “States should use the 2020 election as a lesson and work to make some simple, commonsense changes to avoid future postelection meltdowns in close races. Audrey Perry Martin is the vice president for communications at the Republican National Lawyers Association and an election law attorney from California. “The last thing anyone wanted in 2020 was a complicated postpresidential election debacle. Unfortunately, a combination of factors created a perfect storm for election chaos this year, and we are suffering in its aftermath. Although the litigation, audits, and recounts are far from over, several lessons have emerged that, if implemented, could help avoid similar problems in future close races. First, states should require all absentee ballots be due by the close of polls on Election Day. (Not including military and overseas ballots, which are usually a small number.) This has been the cause of one of the biggest battles of the past few weeks, and litigation is likely to continue. It is understandable to want to count every mailin ballot by Election Day, but it is just not practical. “Elections must end sometime, a single deadline supplies clear notice, and requiring ballots be in by Election Day puts all voters on the same footing,” stated Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch in his concurring opinion to reject a trial court ruling that would have extended Wisconsin’s deadline to receive absentee ballots. The left is actively

working to undermine the integrity of our elections. Read the plan to stop them now. Learn more now. Courts apply a balancing test to weigh the burden that a state places on electoral participation against a state’s need to run a fair and efficient election. The Supreme Court has determined that if a burden to voting is not severe, the state may establish the necessary structure to run a smooth election. Clear deadlines for returning ballots are not a severe burden on voters, and they are necessary to run a competent election. As we have seen, the problem with allowing mail-in ballots to come in after Election Day is that it becomes very difficult to determine whether they were mailed before or after Election Day. Many mail-in ballots never get postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service, so you either have to throw away ballots without a postmark—which seems unfair, because the voter has no way to control whether USPS postmarks their ballot—or you have to take ballots without a postmark. That is extremely dangerous, because even if no one puts their ballot in the mail after the election is over, just the fact that they could do so undermines confidence in the election. If voters know that their ballot must arrive by Election Day, they can either mail it early, place it in an official drop box, or drop it off at a polling location. Second, under Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution, only state legislatures have the authority to supervise presidential elections: “Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors”. Thus, the making and modifying of election laws should be left to state legislatures. Governors, election boards, and state or federal courts should

Audry Perry Martin is an election attorney who writes for The Heritage Foundations Daily Signal Newspaper. not be making last-minute changes to state election statutes. This year in many states, partisans have taken advantage of the uncertainty created by the COVID-19 pandemic to bypass state legislatures and make last-minute changes to state election rules. Governors, secretaries of state, elections boards, and state supreme courts have all attempted to change the rules of the election, in clear contradiction of the Constitution. Perhaps there are some emergency situations where it would be appropriate for courts or a governor to step in to slightly modify election rules—a power blackout, a hurricane, etc.—but a slow-burning pandemic, during which the state legislatures had months of notice and plenty of time to meet in order to modify election laws (which many of them did), is not one of those situations. These last-minute changes to election rules by nonauthorized actors have sown unnecessary confusion among voters and election administrators and spawned countless preventable lawsuits. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, outdated voter rolls combined with mailing every registered voter a ballot is

a recipe for disaster. Nevada has illustrated perfectly in 2020 why many are so adamant about cleaning up voter rolls. It is not to disenfranchise voters and remove eligible voters from the rolls. It is absolutely to ensure that only eligible voters can cast a ballot. Nevada’s state Legislature decided to send every registered voter a mail ballot—so did several other states. But Nevada is a battleground state, and its voter rolls are notoriously outdated. As a result, you have many reports of deceased voters and voters who have moved out of state being sent mail ballots. Some voters received multiple ballots. Renters found previous tenants’ ballots in their mailboxes. Some of these ballots were allegedly filled out and returned. This made Nevada’s process of verifying mail ballots much more difficult, and it greatly undermined the nation’s confidence in the process. We do not yet know how many fraudulent ballots were cast, but even if the number is small, the damage to the country’s faith in the election system is extensive. The United States has greatly improved its election system since the

fiasco that was the 2000 presidential election. We do not have hanging chads anymore, voting systems have been modernized, and state laws have been updated. Yet it is clearly nowhere near a perfect system. All elections have problems, but it is only when the margins in important elections are razor-thin that the flaws in the system are so starkly exposed. That is why every election administrator’s prayer is, “Please, let it be a landslide!” States should use the 2020 election as a lesson and work to make some simple, commonsense changes to avoid future postelection meltdowns in close races. Election fraud is already a problem. Soon it could be a crisis. But election fraud is not the only threat to the integrity of our election system. Progressives are pushing for nine "reforms" that could increase the opportunity for fraud and dissolve the integrity of constitutional elections. To counter these dangerous measures, our friends at The Heritage Foundation are proposing seven measures to protect your right to vote and ensure f a i r, c o n s t i t u t i o n a l elections.

Governor Abbott, DSHS Announce COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Plan Vaccine Distribution Principles Developed By Expert Vaccine Allocation Panel AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) today announced the guiding principles for Texas' COVID-19 vaccine allocation process, which will serve as a foundation for the state's initial distribution for COVID-19 vaccines expected as early as next month. These principles have been established by the Expert Vaccine Allocation Panel (EVAP), created by DSHS to make recommendations

on vaccine allocation decisions, including identifying groups that should be vaccinated first to provide the most protection to vulnerable populations and critical state resources. "These guiding principles established by t h e E x p e r t Va c c i n e Allocation Panel will ensure that the State of Texas swiftly distributes the COVID-19 vaccine to Texans who voluntarily choose to be immunized," said Governor Abbott.

"This foundation for the allocation process will help us mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our communities, protect the most vulnerable Texans, and safeguard crucial state resources." Texas will initially allocate COVID-19 vaccines based on the following criteria: * Protecting health care workers who fill a critical role in caring for and preserving the lives of COVID-19 patients and maintaining the health care infrastructure for all who

need it. * Protecting frontline workers who are at greater risk of contracting COVID-19 due to the nature of their work providing critical services and preserving the economy. * Protecting vulnerable populations who are at greater risk of severe disease and death if they contract COVID-19. * Mitigating health inequities due to factors such as demographics, poverty, insurance status and geography.

* Data-driven allocations using the best available scientific evidence and epidemiology at the time, allowing for flexibility for local conditions. * Geographic diversity through a balanced approach that considers access in urban and rural communities and in affected ZIP codes. * Transparency through sharing allocations with the public and seeking public feedback. EVAP has recommended, and the Commis-

sioner of Health John Hellerstedt has approved, health care workers likely to provide direct care for COVID-19 patients and other vulnerable residents to be the first group to receive the vaccine. This includes staff at hospitals and long-term care facilities, emergency medical services and home health care workers. As part of its ongoing work, EVAP will make recommendations on how and when to roll out vaccine to other critical groups.

AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott today announced the Holiday Comfort Food Care Package (CFCP) program, in partnership with the Texas Restaurant Association, to provide holiday meals for at-risk youth and families in communities across Texas, while also supporting local restaurants. The program, a reboot of the CFCP program that began in March 2020 to support restaurants that limited or closed services due to COVID-19, encourages Texans to purchase a holiday meal for a family in need while patronizing their favorite restaurant. Each care package contains enough food to feed a family of 5 to 6 and will be delivered to the recipients' home. The program

"The Holiday Comfort Food Care Package program will provide holiday meals for our most vulnerable youth and families, while giving Texans another way to support local restaurants and their fellow Texans experiencing hardships due to COVID-19," said Governor Abbott. "Thank you to the generous Texans across the state for stepping up during this holiday season to provide meals to families in need." "This program contin-

warfighters, its proximity to both outstanding educational institutions and top aerospace technology and development corporations, and its well established intelligence and cyber defense presence, there is no better location for the Space Force to call home. Texas is a pillar in America’s defense, and I will continue to advocate that the Lone Star State be selected for the Space Force headquarters as we look to advance America’s leadership in space.” In August, Sen. Cruz sent a letter to the Secretary of the Air Force advocating for the cities of Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio to be selected as the host for U.S. Space Command Headquarters. Sen. Cruz has long been

a leading advocate for standing up a Space Force. I n 2 0 1 9 , S e n . Cruz chaired a hearing that examined current approaches to civilmilitary coordination, cooperation, de-confliction activities, and related issues, and discussed future architectures for managing the space domain. In addition, a version of the legislation Sen. Cruz introduced that created the position of Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy was included in the final version of the FY 2020 National Defense Authorization Act. Sen. Cruz’s provision helped ensure that the Space Force has sufficient influence and resources to address the challenges our nation will

face as space increasingly becomes a domain of military competition. As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Aviation and Space, Sen. Cruz has championed America’s leadership in space and been a fierce advocate for commercial space development activities, including just this year securing a provision in the NDAA to bolster U.S. commercial remote sensing. Sen. Cruz has also been working vigorously to ensure the U.S. remains the dominant leader in low-earth orbit and beyond by pushing to extend the life of the ISS through 2030 and grow our human exploration activities.

Does Joe Biden support Operation Warp Speed? Time for Democrats to follow the science By: Robert Romano F a i r f a x , Va . — A m e r i c a n s f o r Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging former Vice President Joe Biden to urge Democratic blue states to get behind the vaccine: "When is Joe Biden going to get on board with the vaccine and join President Trump in

pushing the ground breaking Operation Warp Speed in bringing vaccines to market much quicker than anybody thought was possible, and urge the FDA for the emergency use authorization? Now is the time when Joe Biden should be reaching out to radical Never Trumpers like Gov. Andrew Cuomo and demand that they not block access to the Covid vaccine for their constitu-

ents. Moreover, how many New Yorkers and other Americans have to die before these grandstanding governors get behind the vaccine? One can bet that Cuomo and the others will become much more enthusiastic if and when Biden is sworn in, because then they can credit Biden with providing a safe vaccine, all the while playing politics with the lives of their constituents.

Rather than impede the people from getting a potentially life-saving vaccine, while at the same time imposing emergency economic shutdown orders, it is time for Democrat elected officials to unite behind the science that has already brought us two and potentially three highly effective vaccines."

Devotional In Any Problem We Face - Heavenly Help Is Coming Spreading the Word

By Gail J. Box Gailbox@consolidated.net

For a couple of months, I was facing a dire problem. It involved several intricate details involving a quilt I had made, but not finished. There seemed to be no help, and my quilter friend wasn’t available at the time, but my life went on as usual. I had prayed for help, but none seemed to be forthcoming.

Then a friend came from out-of-town for a short visit. I didn’t expect she might bring help in the area of my quilting problem, but when she happened to see it, her eyes lit up and she said, “Oh, we can fix this right away”…and she began giving me orders of what we should do. In about 30 minutes – problem solved! Did I have faith that God would actually send someone? Not for sure. But it really made my faith soar that God knew, and helped take that problem away with

just a friendly visit. HE is amazing! This is what David sang as “A Song of Ascents” so long ago: “I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from where shall my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.” Psalm 121: 1 – 4 The phrase that is outstanding to me is: “He who keeps you will

not slumber.” In other words, God is there always, but He is waiting for the very right time to bless us. When we come to the end of a problem, or ourselves, then out of heaven comes the answer to our prayers. And I thank the LORD that He didn’t give up on my problem, but solved it from an entirely different way than I had expected. Sometimes I truly believe God enjoys surprising us by giving us the answer we were looking for, but bringing it in a very unex-

pected way. So, who helps us? Psalm 46: 1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” At the end of this next Psalm, David tells us we are to wait, rejoice, and trust: “Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope for His lovingkindness, to deliver their soul from death and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart rejoices in Him, because we trust in His holy name. Let your

lovingkindness, O LORD, be upon us, according as we have hoped in You.” Psalm 33: 18 – 22. I continually thank the LORD for His kind intervention in my recent trouble, and for the perfect timing of my friend’s help to me. My hope for all is that the LORD will answer all your prayers, and be gracious and kind to you and all your family as w e c e l e b r a t e Thanksgiving and prepare for the beautiful Christmas season to come.

Community Custom Silhouettes for the Holidays at The Woodlands Children’s Museum THE WOODLANDS, TX – November 12, 2020 – Making your gift giving e a s i e r t h i s y e a r, T h e Woodlands Children’s Museum welcomes back by popular demand, the talented silhouette artist Patti Rishforth on Friday, December 4, 2020. Patti uses her artistic skill to capture your child’s image by cutting black paper into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, that will be treasured by families for years to come. The silhouette is a form of portraiture that was replaced by the birth of the camera and photography

many years ago. This art form of dramatic “dark on light shapes” has seen a rebirth in society as new generations show their appreciation for this unique style of art. “This classic form of art makes a wonderful gift for the holidays by capturing your child’s image at a special moment in time,” stated Angela Colton, the m u s e u m ’s E x e c u t i v e Director. “We are thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to families.” The museum showcases this medium in its weekly Shadow Puppet Theater which is presented each

Thursday morning on stage. Books that tell of kindness and good deeds are reproduced and brought to life in silhouette during Miss Jan’s narration of these special curated stories. Our collection of pre-recorded Shadow Puppet Theater presentations can be found on our YouTube channel for your enjoyment. Silhouettes will be offered for 15-minute sessions throughout the day on December 4th ONLY. Reserved timed session tickets are availa b l e a t www.woodlandschildrens
