Prices in Texas are 20.3 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 10.2 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 8.4 cents in the last week and stands at $4.10 per gallon. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas was priced at $1.59/g yesterday while the most expensive was $3.99/g, a difference of $2.40/g. The lowest price in the state yesterday was $1.59/g while the highest was $3.99/g, a difference of $2.40/g. The national average price of gasoline has fallen 9.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.11/g today. The national average is down 23.7 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 10.1 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country. Historical gasoline prices in Texas and the national average going back ten years: December 11, 2022: $2.66/g (U.S. Average: $3.21/g) December 11, 2021: $2.86/g (U.S. Average: $3.34/g) December 11, 2020: $1.85/g (U.S. Average: $2.17/g) December 11, 2019: $2.22/g (U.S. Average: $2.58/g) December 11, 2018: $2.07/g (U.S. Average: $2.41/g) December 11, 2017: $2.23/g (U.S. Average: $2.45/g) December 11, 2016: $1.98/g (U.S. Average: $2.21/g) December 11, 2015: $1.80/g (U.S. Average: $2.01/g) December 11, 2014: $2.38/g (U.S. Average: $2.61/g) December 11, 2013: $3.08/g (U.S. Average: $3.24/g) Neighboring areas and their current gas prices: Midland Odessa- $2.59/g, down 11.0 cents per gallon from last week's $2.70/g. "For the 12th straight week, or three straight months, the national average has continued to decline, now at its lowest level of 2023 heading into the prime of the holiday season as oil prices continue to struggle amidst cooling demand," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "With nearly 80,000 gas stations in the U.S. now priced below $3 per gallon, and 23 states also seeing average prices of $2.99 or less, motorists are getting substantial relief at the pump in time for the holidays. The trend is likely to continue in most states this week, while the national average could soon fall below $3.05 per gallon, the lowest since 2021. The good news may continue into 2024, with GasBuddy's annual Fuel Outlook being released in just a few weeks." SOURCE GasBuddy
In a moving ceremony at Lake Creek High School this past Saturday, retired U.S. Army Sergeant Timothy Brumley, was recognized for his service and sacrifice to Our Nation. Representatives from Homes For Our Troops (HFOT), an organization dedicated to outfitting Our Nation’s most severely injured post9 / 1 1 Ve t e r a n s , w i t h specialty built homes; were on site to announce, along with corporate partners HEB and Patriot Coolers, the gift of a mortgage-free home for Brumley and his family. The home is being built in Montgomery, and a large enthusiastic crowd greeted The Veteran and his family, who were escorted to the LCHS entrance, by the Lonestar Cowgirls on horseback, and representatives from the Montgomery County Sheriff ’s Office, Montgomery Police and Fire, GAP custom homes, and Chapter 2329 of the C o m b a t Ve t e r a n s Motorcycle Association. Sgt. Brumley was in Afghanistan in May 2005, on a quick reaction force infantry operation, to help his fellow soldiers when he was severely wounded by a booby trap explosion, which resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee. A man in good spirits despite his predicament, Brumley, along with his wife, Teresa, and their children, Colton,

They moved to Colorado for a year, then moved back to Texas in 2008. They’ve lived in Montgomery County since, but in a home not suited for a severely Disabled Veteran, and life can be a bit difficult. From showering to cooking, activities of daily living for
an amputee in a wheelchair can cause some frustration for not only the Veteran, but everyone in the family. “I have been offered homes by other organizations, but I was weary and said ‘No,’” said Sgt. Brumley in reference to finding the right agency to deal with. “I then heard of Homes For Our Troops from a War Buddy, and decided to go with them.” HFOT, is a national nonprofit, whose mission is to build specially adapted custom homes to severely injured post-9/11
Veterans, which enables them and their families to live more productive lives. Sgt. Brumley loves to cook, and shower of course; and having a home fit to his individual needs, like rolling his wheelchair into a shower instead of having to hop in, is a great comfort. Not to mention, having a kitchen where Brumley is able to reach for ingredients, and cook on a stove with ease is a GodSend to the family. “Montgomery County See HFOT, page 2
Local Historical Chapters Win Award at Montgomery Christmas Parade
On December 9, 2023, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office teamed up with the Montgomery County Constables Offices, Montgomery County Hospital District, a n d t h e Wi l l i s F i r e Department to provide bicycles and a Christmas experience for over 300 children. After receiving a bicycle, our special guests were able to tour emergency vehicles, meet the men and women of law enforcement, enjoy food, games, bounce houses, and even take a photo with Santa! Generous support from our community partners made this event possible. Without the partnership of Woodforest National Bank, Waste Connections, Blue Ox Moving and Storage, Entergy, WalMart, HEB, Enchanted Party Rentals, North Shore Republican Wo m e n , L i v e A c t i o n Booth and Rentals, and The Montgomery County Sheriff's Citizen's Academy Alumni Association, this event would not be possible! We are so thankful to all our partners who came out to support us. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office would also like to thank all our Law Enforcement and First Responder family for their generous support and friendship. We could not have made this event successful without you.

The Texans' defensive stars were defensive back Jalen Pitre with eight (8) solo tackles with one (1) assist along with Linebacker Christian Harris with seven (7) solo tackles with two (2) assists. The pass coverage from the Linebackers was spotty at best and allowed the Jets to rise to the occasion. Texans' linebacker Blake Cashman pulled a hammy during the game and will most likely not play next week. Special teams were a seesaw with a missed extra point from place kicker Matt Ammendola, yet Texans' punter Cameron Johnston average fifty (50) yards per punts and pinned the Jets inside their own twenty (20) yard line twice. The Houston Texans will have to abide by their motto of the next man up due to the number of injuries that

HEB has helped give over 40 homes to severely wounded Veterans since 2013 through their ‘Operation Appreciation’ giving program; while Patriot Coolers, donates a portion of each sale of their products to HFOT, and has given over $400,000 since 2018. “ To d a y m a r k s t h e change of a life-changing experience for you and your family,” said HEB Public Affairs Specialist Vicky Luna, speaking to Timothy. “HEB is deeply thankful for your service and the sacrifices you and your family have made on behalf of Our Nation.” Over 350 homes have

Navigating Market-Linked CDs: Insights by Kent Pendleton, AAMS of Pendle Hill Advisors at Raymond James
In the current investment landscape where traditional Certificates of Deposit (CDs) offer limited returns, innovative alternatives are essential. As an independent financial advisor and Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS) with Raymond James, I, Kent Pendleton of Pendle Hill Advisors, am eager to share insights into MarketLinked CDs, a significant focus in our practice. At Pendle Hill Advisors, we strive to blend the security of traditional investment methods with the potential for higher returns. Market-Linked CDs stand out in this respect, offering the stability of traditional CDs with additional growth potential linked to the stock
market—a crucial component in today's evolving financial environment. My Take on MarketLinked CDs These CDs are distinctive in their approach, providing returns tied to a market index such as the S&P 500. This allows investors, like those I advise at Pendle Hill Advisors, to engage with the potential upswing of the stock market while maintaining the protection of their principal investment. Balancing risk and potential reward is vital in our investment strategy, and Market-Linked CDs represent this equilibrium effectively. Deciphering the Benefits and Trade-offs It's important to understand the intricacies of any investment. While the principal protection of Market-Linked CDs is a major draw, they also come with limitations such as capped returns and reduced liquidity. These are critical
considerations I discuss with my clients in relation to their long-term financial aspirations. Personalized Strategies at Pendle Hill Advisors Financial planning is never a one-size-fits-all scenario. In my practice, I focus on creating individualized investment strategies that reflect the distinct financial goals and situations of each client. Determining the fit of Market-Linked CDs within an individual's portfolio is a key part of this personalized approach. My Independent Advisor Perspective My AAMS accreditation and deep understanding of the market enable me to offer an independent and comprehensive perspective, which is invaluable for clients navigating the complex investment landscape. Empowering clients with well-informed, innovative financial solutions is the cornerstone of my advisory approach.
Invitation for a Personal Financial Consultation Committed to remaining at the forefront of the financial field, I guide clients through various investment opportunities as an independent advisor with Raymond James. If you're considering alternatives to traditional CDs, I welcome you to discuss how MarketLinked CDs or other strategies could enhance your financial portfolio. Moreover, at Pendle Hill Advisors, we pride ourselves on offering a range of boutique solutions that extend beyond traditional investments, tailored to meet the unique needs and aspirations of our clients. Real Estate Corner with Megan Stultz Brought to you by Megan Stultz and Coffee & Contracts Thinking of pressing pause on your house hunt this December? Here's why you shouldn't. Real estate is cyclical, and having traveled around the calendar many times, here's what I
consistently see in the last month of the year: Fewer buyers in the market Greater negotiating power for buyers Sellers eager to close ASAP With that in mind, here are a few questions to ask yourself or your agent during your December house hunt: Are the driveways and
walkways wellmaintained? Does the exterior of the property exude a welcoming and well-lit ambiance? Has the home been adequately insulated, and is the HVAC system in sound working order? What is the age of the HVAC system? How is the natural light in the home? Given the shorter winter days,
ample natural light can significantly enhance your emotional wellbeing and overall mood. Is there any evidence of storm damage within the property, such as water spots, frozen pipes, or roof issues? Are the neighbors decorating their homes for the holidays? This is a good indicator of a warm and inviting community.
Collaborating with a seasoned real estate agent with lots of experience is always a smart idea. They can successfully guide you through the market and help you find the best deals this time of year. Opinion / Editorial Ruben Borjas Jr, Columnist Ruben’s Montgomery Musings CONROE, TX December 7th, 2023. Midday. Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park. Each Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day since the dedication of Veterans Memorial Park (VMP) in May 2021, I’ve started a little tradition of going to the park during the time of the attack. Each time I go,
the park is empty, which surprises me. I’d expect at least a few sentimental people would be around with ancestors who died or survived the infamous attack, to be in attendance. I go and make a special effort to reflect on the significance of the day, and remember the sacrifices of those who served during that time, and also for those

who gave their lives in service to Our Nation so that we might remain free. The VMP is a place where I can spend a little time with the memories of my family members and friends who are on ‘The Line’, Uncles who served during World War II and the Korean War. And even the noise of passing traffic, the whipping of the flags in the wind, the chiming sounds of the ’Remembered Whispers Memorial Monument,’ (dedicated to the Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASP)), and even the whirring sound in my head (tinnitus). I can still find peace of mind in my reflections, as a forced sense of silence descends upon me. There is a tremendous amount of history represented at the VMP. Any history nut who has studied the Pearl Harbor attack will recall that one woman was accosted by the Japanese flyers, even before the attack began. Miss Cornelia Fort, an accomplished pilot in her day, was giving a flying lesson that Sunday morning, December 7th, 1941, when she and her student found themselves amongst a group of Japanese bombers. The scene is depicted in the spot-on historical movie, ’’Tora, Tora, Tora.’’ Since Miss Fort was a woman and her plane unarmed, the Japanese did not perceive her as much of a threat, and she and her student were allowed to fly away from their formation. When the U.S. Army Air Force began to recruit and train women to fly planes in September 1942, Fort joined the enterprise; which began in Houston, and found a home in Sweetwater, Texas. The WASPs ferried more than 12,000 planes, including P40s, P-51s, and B-17s from the factories to their assembly areas, ready to go overseas. And Miss Fort’s name is on the WASP Memorial, which is in the shape of a plane’s propeller at the park. As a continuation of the legacy of the old Montgomery County War Memorial, some of the elements of the
The Tuskegee Airmen, or the Red Tails, as they were also known, because of the distinctive color at the end of their planes. The air group flew all of their nearly 180 bomber escort missions, from Italy deep into Germany, where they rarely lost bombers they were conveying. They received the respect of their white counterparts in the bomber units, who wanted a feeling of safety in their missions. Their dedication to duty, and the hurdles they had to cross just to get to fly for their county in wartime was amazing, and many went on to distinctive and highly respected careers. I also believe the VMP should have an area dedicated to Medal of Honor recipients. U.S. Army Master and Texan, Sergeant Roy Benevidez, comes to mind, and other Texas recipients. I met a MOH recipient here in Conroe, so I believe Montgomery County has at least one wearer of Our Nation's Highest Medal for bravery in action. Prisoners of War, such as U.S. Air Force Colonel James Ray, and other Texans need a place as well. The horrors they endured during their captivity, of which no one, except for those who have been through it, can imagine the pain and suffering. They’ve literally been through hell.
Even Montgomery County Judge Jimmie C. Edwards, III, the Chairman of the Montgomery County Ve t e r a n s M e m o r i a l Commission, needs to be honored in time. We now have a place of reverence in Our County that we can go and reflect on days such as December 7th. Where we can go and visit with the memories of Our Loved Ones whose names are inscribed on The Line; to touch their names, and remember. It’s a place where we remember the sacrifices of everyone who has ever put on a uniform in service to Our Nation, and we celebrate the uniqueness that the VMP offers above any other Veterans Park in The Nation. We owe a lot of gratitude to Judge Edwards, for he has gone above and beyond the Call of Duty in bringing to us, in our little piece of The World, a Gift to The Nation. Without Judge Jimmie, and the driving force he has been in Our Community, we would still be stuck with a small insignificant War Memorial Park. Rammed in a small corner of downtown Conroe, that everyone passes by without noticing. Wi t h o u t Edwards’ vision, the little lifeless pond next to Interstate 45 would be just that. A lifeless little pond.

old park are placed in the North end of the VMP, and it pays homage to those from Our County who have paid the ultimate price for America’ Freedom. Engraved glass panels representing our conflicts overseas, are a unique aspect of the park and are beautifully done, The newest addition to the VMP is the B-17 Memorial, dedicated to the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) flyers who perished in the North Texas airshow crash last year. It’s special because it represents a touch of actual history that Our Boys actually flew in during wartime. It displays that the CAF is dedicated to preserving history for Our Young, so they themselves can understand the sacrifices of the Greatest Generation, and the machines they operated so long ago. I appreciate, as others do, the recognition of the Buffalo Soldier, Sergeant Luther James Dorsey, a man born into slavery in 1852 Maryland. Sgt. Dorsey served for five years during the 1870s with the 10th U.S. Cavalry, one of the Buffalo Soldiers units. Due to his service in Texas, Sgt. Dorsey, after his discharge, came to settle in M o n t g o m e r y C o u n t y, where he raised a family, and became a pillar of the Black Community for decades before his passing in 1939. I’d also like to see a Memorial to Native Texan Doris Miller, and at least the Tuskegee Airmen. Those men were definitely ‘worth their salt’. Miller, a mess attendant on the battleship U.S.S. West Virginia, when the first bombs and torpedoes fell on Pearl Harbor. At first, the Texan helped the wounded on his ship, then he was ordered to help with an unmanned anti-aircraft machine gun, where he is credited with shooting down several Japanese planes that day. Miller was later awarded the Navy Cross for his heroism during the attack, which was pinned on him by Admiral Chester Nimitz, another Texan.

Obituary What is on your bucket list for travel? I talk to alot of people who want to go on vacation, and more than half want something tropical with blue water and white sand beaches. There are plenty of places to go around the Caribbean, but there is one obstacle that holds a few people back, a passport. For whatever reason, some people can’t get one, or don’t have the time to get one. Another challenge is flying or cruising, there are people who are afraid to do both. There are many beautiful places that you can enjoy blue water and white sand beaches, but some are seasonal as it gets cold in the winter. However, the Florida Keys are great yearround, they are far enough south that they don’t get the extreme cold fronts coming in very often. The Florida Keys are
a coral cay archipelago off the southern coast of Florida, forming the southernmost part of the continental United States. They begin at the southeastern coast of the Florida peninsula, south of Miami, and extend in a gentle arc south-southwest and then westward to Key West, the westernmost of the inhabited islands, and on to the uninhabited Dry Tortugas. The islands lie along the Florida Straits, dividing the Atlantic Ocean to the east from the Gulf of Mexico to the northwest, and defining one edge of Florida Bay. At the nearest point, the southern part of Key West is just 93 miles from Cuba. The Keys can be accessed by car from Key Largo to Key West on the Overseas Highway, or U.S. Route 1, which stretches 113 miles. Each part of the Keys has their own uniqueness to them. Key Largo is the first of the fabulous Florida Keys and is the self-proclaimed “Dive Capital of the World”. It is home to the world's largest artificial reef, the 510-foot USS Spiegel Grove, the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and the African Queen. A short drive south from Key Largo is Islamorada,
also known as the “Sport Fishing Capitol of the World”, and hosts the largest fishing fleet per square mile in the world. Many of which you can find at Bud N Mary’s marina, which is home to dozens of offshore and back country fishing charters. There is also the Theater of the Seas that has Dolphin encounters and swimming with nurse sharks. During our last visit there, we stayed in Layton on Long Key, at the Lime Tree Bay resort, on the gulf coast side. The resort also has rooms on the Atlantic side, just across the street. This gave us a perfect location to visit the other Keys each day while we were there. Marathon, the next stop on US 1. Marathon is a 10mile-long, family-oriented island community, located in the middle of the Keys Island chain. It is comprised mainly of Vaca Key, Fat Deer Key and Grassy Key. Marathon's fishing heritage, old-Keys lifestyle and seafaring traditions are themes celebrated in the area's accommodations, such as private waterfront vacation homes, small hotels, beachside inns and tropical, family-style resorts. The area is popular for its annual seafood 1308 S. festivals and waterfront restaurants that harvest and serve fresh fish, lobster and stone crab claws from local waters. While we were there, we ate at the Sunset Grill and Raw Bar, which is just before you get to the 7 Mile Bridge. We enjoyed for great views and delicious food. Another must also do a sunset cruise. We went with Marathon Mermaid charters and enjoyed the fun narrative with a glass of champaign and party atmosphere. Where the Florida Keys Island chain takes a graceful westerly turn toward the sunset, the Lower Keys are home to two national wildlife refuges, a national marine sanctuary and a state park filled with abundant terrestrial and marine wildlife. This quiet region of small islands is connected from the west end of the Seven Mile Bridge at Little Duck Key, to Stock Island. There you will find family-owned resorts, RV parks, campgrounds, quaint B & B ’ s a n d licensed vacation homes, as well as eclectic restaurants, a strong sense of community, native wildernesses and rich history. The final stop on US 1 is Key West. Located closer to Cuba than to Miami, Key West is Florida’s southern-

most subtropical paradise, a unique blend of history, climate, natural beauty, cultural diversity, architecture and unabashed romantic appeal. Palmlined streets with gingerbread mansions and tinroofed conch houses were home to Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, Elizabeth Bishop, Robert Frost and Jimmy Buffett, a few of the famous people who discovered solace and inspiration in the island city, whose heritage in large part was inspired by Bahamian wreckers, commercial fishermen, spongers and Cuban cigar makers. Key west is known for its party scene, while the rest of the islands are more family oriented and relaxed pace environment. You could continue on
by boat to go to the Dry Tortugas National Park, an American national park located about 68 miles west of Key West in the Gulf of Mexico, in the United States. The park preserves Fort Jefferson and the several Dry To r t u g a s i s l a n d s , t h e westernmost and most isolated of the Florida Keys. The archipelago's coral reefs are the least disturbed of the Florida Keys reefs. The Florida Keys has something for everyone, especially fisherman, divers, and sea life enthusiasts. Community What the Pilgrims Had to Endure in Massachusetts in the 1600's of the Mayflower, Pilgrim Priscilla Mullins Alden, Mrs. Denise Bennett, dressed in full character of her ancestor. From her power-point program she was able to bring alive with pictures of what the pilgrim's life was like in the 1620's. Several ships from London, England arrived on the coast of Massachusetts and established New England's Plymouth Colony. So many of passengers passed away during the voyage to the New World and also died within the first year of the colony. Congratulations ‘Kid of the Week’ Katherine Shelton Katherine Shelton, 9, was recently at the Trick or Treat Historic Montgomery, and had a wonderful time. She is a 4th grader at Lincoln Elementary. Her favorite teacher is Ms. Lehman. Katherine’s favorite subject is math. Her favorite color is blue, and she is able to count to 100. Katherine is still working at a career objective, but we know she will make the right choice. At the very least, she might try Dolly Parton impersonating. Good Luck Katherine, and Congratulations on being MCNs ‘Kid of the Week’.

Congratulations ‘Pet of the Week’ Shiner Meet SHINER. A lovable 6 year old GoldenDoodle, a mix between a standard Poodle and Golden Retriever. Shiner is owned by Mary Eckhardt-Sims, of Montgomery. Shiner lives with Mary in the Caroline House Bed and Breakfast, so he meets many guests throughout the year. Mary says Shiner is great with kids, and he is truly a loveable little fuzzball. Shiner is a big dog, but he is full of life and energy, bounding from here to there, and he is ready for anything. He even has his own groomer, a neighborhood girl named Hannah. Shiner was trained as a therapy dog, but as with most dogs with degrees, he’s forgotten everything, but that’s the brilliance of Shiner. He is a Carpe Diem (Seize the Day) dog. Shiner doesn’t play fetch. He plays keep. Which for a half Golden Retriever is a bit odd, but that’s OK. We still love Shiner nonetheless. Good Luck SHINER, and Congratulations on being MCNs ‘Pet of the Week’.

Community Veteran Of The Week: Wisecrack Warriors By: Ruben Borjas Jr, MCN Contributing Writer This week’s Veterans are a bunch of ‘WiseCracks’ from the Lone Star Honor Flight Veterans Group. They meet weekly on Wednesdays at 0800 hrs, at the Poplar Business Park off Old 105, in Conroe. They call themselves the ‘Wisecrack Warriors,’ and they’ve taken over an entire table at the event each week, causing havoc and mischief at every turn, throwing out Wisecracks this way and that, and making passersby roll their eyes. It’s done in all good fun though, and for laughs since all warriors, wisecracks, or not, need to laugh and fellowship together to keep on the good side of sanity. The Wisecrack Warriors are led by a ‘bald-Santa’ looking character named Curtis Cole, an Artificial Intelligence Genius, who doesn’t tell people what to do, he tells computers. Cole, or rather AI, lets hope its not named H.A.L. 9000, has even come up

The ladies were dressed in period correct attire for the 1861 - 1865 era and the men, either wore Confederate
uniforms or Civilian attire from the War Between the States time period. The float was decorated with simple green garland, red bows and fresh greenery with red berries. There was a nice pinecone wreath hanging on the covered tire on the float but was lost somewhere on Hwy. 105 in route to the lineup area. The float riders and walkers chose for their theme..."The 12 Days of
Christmas Texas Style". For example..on the 1st day someone received a raccoon in a persimmon tree or on the 3rd day three pickup trucks, on the 5th day five skunks came into town, etc., everyone had a good laughable time with this theme. All the ones helping with this fun event, either held a puppet critter plus an 8 x 10 color picture of that critter, while the others might have held a toy truck and
picture. The float must have pleased the judges, because it received an award titled "Most Unique". The day started off with heavy clouds, it looked like rain at any moment, but it never rained, the sun came out and it warmed up.
All of us would like to thank Jan Schroeder for driving her truck and pulling her trailer. She did an excellent job making those sharp turns on those narrow streets. Picture and article by Eva Rains, Publicity Chairman for the Stubbs chapter.
At this time, thisappears to be an isolated incident and only involves the two deceased persons. The names of the deceased are not being released pending notification of next of kin. This investigation is still in its infancy and is active. There is no other information available at this time.
