Governor After Historic Launch, Sen. Cruz Abbott Speaks with Astronauts at Declares Johnson Space Center State of ‘This launch […] is a powerful inspiration Disaster of what we can do when we come together’ Following Violent Protests Authorizes Federal Agents To Act As Texas Peace Officers AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today declared a State of Disaster for all Texas counties in the midst of violent protests that endanger public safety and threaten property loss and damage. Under this declaration, the Governor has the ability to designate federal agents to serve as Texas Peace Officers. "Every Texan and every American has the right to protest and I encourage all Texans to exercise their First Amendment rights," said Governor Abbott. " H o w e v e r, v i o l e n c e against others and the destruction of property is unacceptable and counterproductive. As protests have turned violent in various areas across the state, it is crucial that we maintain order, uphold public safety, and protect against property damage or loss. By authorizing additional federal agents to serve as Texas Peace Officers we will help protect people’s safety while ensuring that peaceful protesters can continue to make their voices heard."
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (RTexas), chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Aviation and Space, on Sunday applauded astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken on successfully completing the first launch into space from U.S. soil in nearly a decade and the first launch on a commercially-created spacecraft in American history. Addressing the astronauts from Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas – the home of human space exploration – after safely docking their SpaceX Dragon capsule to the International Space
Station, Sen. Cruz said: “Congratulations gentleman, the eyes of the world are upon you, and everyone is proud of you. All of America is watching you and today and yesterday represent big, big days. We’re looking at a decade since we’ve had American astronauts launched on an American ship from American soil. I can tell you I sat with my wife and kids in our living room watching on TV yesterday and I suspect we did what just about everyone watching did, including both of you, we just held our breathe as it took off. We’re glad to see you’ve landed safely.
We’re glad to see you’ve docked.” Recognizing the unprecedented challenges and division facing the country right now, Sen. Cruz added: “As a country we are in the midst of a tough week. We’re seeing protests, we’re seeing a lot of anger and we’re seeing violence. I have to say, this launch and y’alls docking is a powerful inspiration of what we can do when we come together. Of the power of unity [and] the power of ingenuity.” As chairman of the Subcommittee on Aviation and Space, Sen. Cruz has championed America’s
leadership in space. In 2 0 1 6 , S e n . Cruz introduced the NASA Transition Authorization Act, which was signed into law in 2017. The legislation made a serious commitment to the manned exploration of space and enabled commercial space ventures to flourish, as demonstrated by Saturday’s launch. America Votes for Local Dog to Become Semifinalist in 2020 American Humane Hero Dog Awards® Voting Now Open to Determine Seven National Category-winning Finalists ---Yearlong contest to culminate in red carpet awards gala and two-hour special on Hallmark Channel M O N T G O M E R Y, TEXAS, May 28, 2020 – Based on nearly half a million votes cast by animal lovers across the country, “Remington” a nine-year-old K9 from Montgomery, Texas, has advanced to the semifinals of the 2020 American Humane Hero Dog Awards®. Remington is one of only three dogs in the nation to vie for the title of the nation’s top Search and Rescue hero dog of the year and compete with six other heroic hounds for the top title of “American Hero Dog” at the annual awards. The American Humane Hero Dog Awards will be broadcast nationwide as a two-hour special on Hallmark Channel. The show will be broadcast in conjunction with the network’s pet adoption advocacy initiative, H a l l m a r k C h a n n e l ’s A d o p t i o n E v e r A f t e r, which aims to empty shelters and end this country’s epidemic of pet homelessness. Remington’s story as told from handler Rachel Crivelli: * K9 Remington is more than just a retired search and rescue K9; he is a cancer fighter and survivor, an advocate for retired K9s and for dogs to be in the fire service. Remi was nationally certified in human remains detection and worked many cases across the United States with Special K9s SAR. Remi has spent his entire life fighting for those who could not fight by assisting law enforcement in locating remains or evidence. His deployments range from missing people, cold cases, and Hurricane Harvey. When not on searches, he was at the New Caney Fire Department and later with Navasota Fire Department. He was a constant figure at public relations events, allowing people to learn about search and rescue, as well as fire safety. He brought comfort to firefighters after long shifts and rough calls. On June 19, 2019, Remi was medically retired after unexplained lameness. He was diagnosed with a puerperal nerve sheath tumor. Due to the financial burden, and his low chances of quality of life, euthanasia was advised. That's when Jason Johnson, of Project K9 Hero, stepped in. He stated,

It’s definitely something I crave from time to time yet I am hesitant to order it out primarily because of the high sodium content. Thankfully there are many ways to satisfy right from your own kitchen. I am a big fan of chicken wings but rarely cook them at home unless my husband is willing to smoke them – they just seem difficult to cook without a specialty recipe. Here is exactly the right kind of recipe for me. It is quick, easy and delicious. I had never heard of “dry searing” but it is brilliant. Do it just like it says – a non-stick pan over high heat. They brown right up without oil. Chinese Chicken Wings Ingredients 16 whole chicken wings 1/3-cup sake 1/3-cup soy sauce 4 tablespoons brown sugar (see Cook's Note) 3 tablespoons mirin 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
Dog Awards from page 1 “You let me worry about the money. Your job is to give Remi the fight he deserves.” Doctors with TAMU Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital were able to save his life. All vet bills were paid by Project K9 Hero Donors. He still has cancer and is now a tripod, but he continues to live his life representing Project K9 Hero at events to raise awareness and funding for other retired K9s. Remi is more than a search dog; he is a HERO! Remington is one of just 21 heroic hounds who were chosen by the American public to advance to the semifinals from a field of 408 remarkable candidates. The public is invited to v i s i t www.HeroDogAwards.org between now and July 16 to vote once per day in each of the seven Hero Dog categories. The winning dog in each category will take part in the nationally televised Hero Dog Awards this fall and this year’s top
sauce. I even bought the little packets of this so I can take it with me when I know I’ll be lucky enough to eat sushi. But please add more of whatever you choose at the end if this tastes good to you. I almost always stir an extra drizzle into my portion and love it.

Add to shopping list Directions Place a 14-inch nonstick sauté pan over high heat. Add the chicken and dry-sear to lightly brown the chicken. Add the sake, soy sauce, 1/3-cup water, brown sugar, mirin, oyster sauce, ginger, star anise, dried chile and cinnamon stick and bring t o a s i m m e r. C o o k , covered, about 12 minutes. Uncover and simmer until the pan is almost dry, tossing frequently to coat the wings, 10 to 12 minutes. Serve with scallions and sesame seeds as a garnish. Cook’s Note If you like it sweeter, add more. You can check the flavor of the sauce at any time and I encourage you to do so. The Best Fried Rice Ok, let’s get right to it. Here are the important things I have learned over the years about how to make the best-fried rice.
1) Use cold rice: You’ve got to plan ahead and use thoroughly chilled cooked rice. A fresh batch of warm (or even lukewarm) rice will not fry well when it hits the hot pan, and will result in soggy and sticky clumps — no good. So leftover refrigerated rice is ideal! Or, if you are in a hurry (or have an impulse craving for fried rice, which I completely understand), just cook up a fresh batch of rice. Then spread it out on a baking sheet or another large flat pan, drape the rice with a layer of plastic wrap, then pop it in the fridge for 30 minutes (or in the freezer for 10-15 minutes) until it is thoroughly chilled (not frozen). 2 ) U s e b u t t e r : Ye s , butter. I have made many a batch of fried rice using various oils, and I’m now convinced there’s a reason why Japanese steak houses use that big slab of butter when they’re making fried rice. It just tastes so m u c h b e t t e r, a n d a l s o makes everything brown up perfectly. 3) Use veggies: This is one of my big pet peeves with lame take-out fried rice — not enough veggies! In addition to adding some nice spots of color, veggies
go a long way in adding some flavor and freshness to fried rice. 4) Use toasted sesame oil and oyster sauce: If you do not eat seafood, you can leave out the oyster sauce and your fried rice will still be great. But this ingredient makes such a difference in good fried rice, and a little goes a long way. So even if you’re not into oysters, don’t be scared of oyster sauce! Toasted sesame oil, on the other hand, is 100% nonnegotiable. It is my favorite smelling ingredient in my kitchen, and tastes wonderful in fried rice. (Also note that sesame oil is meant as finishing oil, not cooking oil, so remove the pan from the heat and then stir it in.) 5) Use high heat: This will help fry and brown the rice and veggies well, and will also help prevent the rice from steaming in the pan and sticking together too much. 6) Don’t be afraid to add in some extra soy sauce at the end: I know that everyone has different sensitivities to salt, and different brands of soy sauce also contain pretty dramatically different levels of sodium. This is why I use coconut amino as a replacement for soy
HOW TO MAKE FRIED RICE: To m a k e t h i s homemade fried rice recipe, simply: 1. Scramble your eggs: Using a small pat of butter, soft scramble some eggs in a large sauté pan, breaking them into small pieces as you go. Then transfer the eggs to a separate plate, and set aside. 2. Sauté your veggies and garlic: Return your sauté pan to the heat, and sauté the onions, carrots, peas and garlic until soft and cooked through. You can buy the frozen peas and carrots combo to save time here. 3. Stir-fry rice: Then turn the burner to high heat. Scooch the veggies over to one side of the pan, melt the remaining butter in the other half, and add the chilled rice, soy sauce or liquid aminos, and oyster sauce (if using). Then stir to combine with

Look for them where the vegan foods are – next to the tofu. I didn’t have any crab handy so went straight with cream cheese to which I smashed in some of the sliced green onions I had out. You fold these over and seal with fingers dipped in water then fry for just a very few minutes. I like mine with Chinese style mustard that I buy at the grocery store but they also sell the sweet and sour red sauce if you prefer.

Comments According to Doc Taxpayers Get “Ripped-Off” With Nancy Pelosi’s House Bill HB-748! Walden Happenings By Doc Fennessy The opinions expressed in this editorial do not necessarily reflect those of MCN.
The United States Senate has a ridiculous Three (3) trillion of taxpayers’ dollars for relief of the Coronavirus19 Pandemic. House of Representatives sent from Nancy Pelosi that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell calls, “A No Brainer!” One of the Republican Senators told F o x N ew s H o s t S ean Hannity that. “We can’t debate much vote on this bill because the Democrats won’t come out and fight, I mean that they won’t come back to their chambers in Washington D.C. and go to work! They are still waiting the Pandemic at home in their basement playrooms.” This reminds me of another Absolutely ridiculous and similar Nancy Pelosi bill which tried to fool the citizens with a phony “HR-748 Relief Bill” in which she tried to steal the taxpayers two (2) Trillion Dollars. This 2-trillion Dollars had not one cent itemized to go to anything related to the relief of anything but payoffs to buy votes for and support for the Democrats. Please note that the bill was introduced in January of 2019, but by the time it got to the senate to be debated, the pandemic had arrived and the senate could have added more dollars to it
for the relief of the millions out of work and support for the medical tragedy. This is a reflection on the phony bill in the United States Senate today. The Bill was introduced in the House of Representatives in January 24, 2019 by Congressman Joe Courtney D-CT., the only Sponsor, of t h e Wa y s a n d M e a n s Committee. There are 24 Democrats coming up for election this year that didn’t want it on their record. In fact Nancy Pelosi with the massive majority could not get the HB- 748 initially passed and it took five(5) “Roll Call Votes” to pass the HB-748 by only eight (8) votes as the 34 Democrats voted with the Republicans against the Bill. Let’s hope the Democrat Senators get the guts to be honest and vote with the Republicans against this crooked bill. And congress sends the highly corrupt Nancy Pelosi back to San Francisco with the rest of the “loonies” forever!!! Begin forwarded: Subject; United States House of Representatives, 116th U.S. Congress, House Bill HB-748 “Thief.” Ya’al folks jest gotta luv today’s “Fake News and Dirty Politics with this one…!” It’s hard to believe but look it up on the Congress website for HR-748 from 116th Congress. Is this the end of America? By Robert Romano One need look no further than the dichotomy between those peacefully protesting against the murder and manslaughter of George Floyd and those who are exploiting it by burning and pillaging cities across America to realize that this is a battle for the heart and soul of America. On one side stands with the civil society, that will hear charges in a court of law being brought against Derek Chauvin, the police officer who kneeled on Floyd’s throat, suffocating him to death, and on the other, pure chaos and anarchy that seeks to impose itself on the rest of us. Is this the end of America? One can stand against police violence against American citizens and in
favor of civil rights, without embracing a call to burn it all. A society of laws, not of men, will see to it that Chauvin is held accountable for his actions, but a society of men cannot, for in the brutality of the state of nature, there will be more dead and the faceless killers will never see justice. S a d l y, r i g h t n o w, anarchy is winning, as many turn to rioting to get their point across. Lost in the noise and flames, however, is the ability to uphold our national ideals we all seek. Now President Donald Trump is intervening and has announced that Antifa, a group behind some of the rioting, will be designated a domestic terrorist organization. Attorney General William Barr has taken that

directive and announced that Justice Department will be taking targeted action against the group: “To identify criminal organizers and instigators, and to coordinate federal resources with our state and local partners, federal law enforcement is using our existing network of 56 regional FBI Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTF). The violence instigated and carried out by Antifa and other similar groups in connection with the rioting is domestic terrorism and will be treated accordingly.” Barr added, “Federal law enforcement actions will be directed at apprehending and charging the violent radical agitators who have hijacked peaceful protest and are engaged in violations of federal law.” According to FBI.gov, “The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Forces, or JTTFs, are our nation’s front line of defense against terrorism, both international and domestic. They are groups of highly trained, locally based, passionately committed investigators, analysts, linguists, and other specialists from dozens of U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies. When it comes to investigating terrorism, they do it all:

We saw this finally happen in Minneapolis last night, and it worked.”
The President should also consider addressing the nation to bring unity around a national call to action against rioting. The mes s ag e mus t b e to parents, who need to be keeping their kids away from the radicals fomenting violence, and to note that we have laws to be upheld that hold to account officers like Chavin who abuse their power. He should cite examples of officers who have been held accountable in the recent past that did not result in the nation burning, emphasizing that no one is above the law. The truth is that the civil
society always rests on the razor’s edge, and its end is always marked by political and mob violence. Liberty cannot be protected but under law, and our national future depends on it. The question every American must ask themselves is if they want to live in a society governed by grudges — or by the law. On that count, there is no middle ground. International Space Station. ‘Congratulations gentlemen,’ said Cruz. ‘The eyes of the world are upon you, and everyone is proud of you.’ The two men are 250 miles above Earth, for a stay of up to four months, after which they will come home with a Right Stuff-style splashdown at sea, something the world hasn’t witnessed since the 1970s. The crew successfully opened the hatch connecting the Dragon to the International Space Station about two hours after docking on Sunday.” CBS News: SpaceX Crew Dragon chalks up picture-perfect space station docking “During the postdocking welcome aboard ceremony, Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas asked the Crew Dragon astronauts ‘how does she handle?’ ‘It flew just like it was supposed to,’ Hurley said. ‘We had a couple of opportunities to take it out for a spin, so to speak (flying manually), and my compliments to the folks back at Hawthorne and SpaceX for how well it
flew. It's exactly like the simulator, and we couldn't be happier about the performance of the vehicle.’” Associated Press: SpaceX’s historic encore: Astronauts arrive at space station “Two Texas members of Congress at Johnson for the docking — Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Brian Babin — said the flight offered inspiration and hope during a particularly tough time of protests and pandemic. ‘Having it go off without a hitch was a tremendous blessing for our country,’ Babin told the astronauts. Gleaming white in the sunlight, the Dragon was easily visible on NASA TV from a few miles away from the space station, its nose cone open and exposing its docking hook as well as a blinking light. Hurley and Behnken took over the controls and did a little piloting less than a couple hundred yards (meters) out as part of the test flight, before putting it back into automatic for the final approach.” ABC News: Dragon
docks at International Space Station 19 hours after NASA-SpaceX launch “Sen. Ted Cruz, RTexas, was also on hand in Houston to congratulate the astronauts and asked them how the Dragon handled in space. ‘It flew just like it was supposed to,’ Hurley said. ‘We had a couple of opportunities to take it out for a spin, so to speak, once after we got into orbit last night and again today about 20 minutes before we docked and my compliments to the folks back in Hawthorne [California] and SpaceX for how well it flew. It's exactly like the simulator and we couldn't be happier about the performance of the vehicle.’ Cruz reminded the astronauts about the problems in the United States on the ground, referring to the violent protests stemming from the police-involved killing of African American George Floyd and the continuing battle against the coronavirus.”
Nichols Statement Contact Tracing The State of Texas has recently entered into an agreement with a company to participate in contact tracing. This includes contacting an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19, and documenting their location and who they have been in contact with to trace where the disease may have been
spread. Participation in this is 100% voluntary, and no Texan will be required to participate in this process. If you receive a phone call from a contact tracer, you have every right to not engage with them or provide the information they request. I am concerned and have been against this
contract since learning about its existence. It was entered into without the knowledge of the Legislature. While it has been made voluntary by Governor Abbott, there is always the chance it could be made mandatory as we are in a declared State of Disaster. I would oppose that whole heartedly, and
will continue to monitor this process as it progresses over the coming months. You can find out more about contact tracing by visiting the Department of State Health Services w e b s i t e a t https://www.dshs.state.tx. us/coronavirus/tracing.asp x

Learning To Refresh And Reflect In These Trying Times Spreading the Word
By Gail J. Box Gailbox@consolidated.net
Hearts were hurt. Souls were saddened. Minds were left questioning. Buildings were left burning while the people cried. The question remains: When will man be kind to man? Where is love in all this hate? Since the beginning of the time of man, God has tried to present love to him. Adam and Eve sinned
against God, and one son was murdered by the other son. So God drove their family out of their idyllic setting. Eventually, in years to come, Moses was given the laws of God for all mankind to follow. They were good laws which could help families live quiet and productive lives. And what did man do? He broke those laws before Moses could even deliver them. God, in all patience, rewrote each of the 10 laws. So here came the people God loved so much, the Israelites, down through the ages, to

try to learn how to love. At length, God had to send His Son, Jesus, to come to the earth from heaven. Jesus had to live an earthly life to show all people the kind of love that He and His Father had planned for them. Some people believed Jesus, but others tried to stop Him from teaching about God’s unbounded love for all of us. At the right time, Jesus died the most horrible death that man could devise in those days That one act was planned just so each one of us could spend eternity
with Him and His Father in heaven…forever. All we have to do is believe and follow God’s laws. They’re quite simple, to the point, and never change. Parents may want to remind their children of these laws, which are found in Exodus 20:1-17. Before Jesus left this earth, His disciples asked Him to tell them how to pray. His words are found in the New Testament. It’s sometimes referred to as the “Our Father” prayer: “Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.
Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:9-13. Jesus ended the prayer, but I want to go on with the next few sentences which apply to the situations so prominent in our news the past few days. Jesus went on to say: “For if you forgive
others for their transgressions, your heavenly. Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then Your Father will not forgive your transgressions.” Matthew 6:14 – 15. Please join me in praying these prayers for those recently involved in any evil acts of violence toward people and property in our big cities. May God shine His light into their hearts to bring them to love and not hate our fellow men.

PUBLIC NOTICE DOCKET NO. 50790 - JOINT REPORT AND APPLICATION OF ENTERGY TEXAS, INC. AND EAST TEXAS ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE, INC. FOR REGULATORY APPROVALS RELATED TO TRANSFERS OF THE HARDIN COUNTY PEAKING FACILITY AND A PARTIAL INTEREST IN THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY POWER STATION On April 28, 2020, Entergy Texas, Inc. (“ETI” or “the Company”) and East Texas Electric Cooperative, Inc. (“ETEC”) filed a Joint Application with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (“PUCT” or “Commission”) requesting to amend ETI's certificate of convenience and necessity (“CCN”) in connection with ETI's acquisition of the Hardin County Peaking Facility (“Hardin Facility”) from ETEC pursuant to Public Utility Regulatory Act (“PURA”) §§ 37.056 and 39.452(j), including associated assets and common facilities, and authorization to further amend ETI's CCN to reflect a sale of a partial interest (75 megawatts (“MW”)) in the Montgomery County Power Station (“MCPS”) to ETEC (together, “the Transactions”) pursuant to PURA § 37.154. The Joint Application also seeks a Commission determination that the purchase of the Hardin Facility from ETEC is consistent with the public interest pursuant to PURA § 14.101, as well as a determination that the full acquisition cost, including transaction costs, of the Hardin Facility is recoverable invested capital for ratemaking purposes pursuant to PURA § 37.058(c). However, ETI is not seeking a change in rates as part of this proceeding. The Transactions are interdependent in that one may not occur without the other. The Transactions are expected to close in mid-2021. The Transactions will provide a number of benefits to ETI, ETEC, and their customers, including generation resource portfolio diversification and the addition of peaking and reserve generation capacity for ETI and base load and core-load following capacity for ETEC. The agreed purchase price for the Hardin Facility is the net book value of that asset at the time of closing, which is currently estimated to be $36.0 million. In addition, ETI expects to incur transaction costs of $2.7 million and has allocated a $5.3 million contingency for unidentified costs. The agreed sale price for the partial interest in MCPS is currently estimated to be $71.1 million. If the PUCT adopts the 45-day intervention deadline proposed in the Joint Application, the deadline to intervene will be June 12, 2020, and a letter requesting intervention should be received by the PUCT, at its address provided below, by that date. A prehearing conference is expected to be held in Austin, Texas in the near future. Persons who wish to intervene in or comment upon these proceedings, or obtain further information, should contact the Public Utility Commission of Texas, P.O. Box 13326, Austin, Texas 78711-3326, or call the PUCT's Office of Consumer Protection at 512-9367120 or 1-888-782-8477. Hearing and speech impaired individuals with text telephones (TTY) may contact the PUCT at 512-936-7136 or use Relay Texas (toll-free) 1-800-7352988. All communications should refer to Docket No. 50790, and any request to intervene in that proceeding should include an email address and fax number (if available) as contact information. Persons with questions or who want more information about this Joint Application may contact ETI at 350 Pine Street, Beaumont, Texas 77701, or call (409) 9812602 during normal business hours. A complete copy of the Joint Application is available upon request. A copy of the Joint Application may also be viewed on the Commission's webpage at www.puc.state.tx.us. The Commission maintains an electronic copy of all filings on the “Interchange Filing Search” section of its webpage. The control number for this proceeding is 50790. Published Date: June 3, 2020

Hey Folks, “No Nursing Home For Me, I’ll Be Checking Into A Holiday Inn When The Time Comes!” By “Doc” Fennessy With the average cost for nursing home care being $4,000. to $5,000. per month, there is a better way to go and have a visiting nurse or Caregiver visiting daily depending on the patient’s condition. If you don’t need nursing care all the better and cheaper. Considering a retirement “home” persay; less than the on-going average of $2500.00 to $3000.00 per month = my friend has a great idea! My longtime friend, reader and world traveler who has been in Holiday Inns all over the world said, “No nursing home for me,
I’ll be checking into a Holiday Inn before we get too old and feeble!” It seems that there’s already people that have made reservations. You can easily check this out. I was sent some photos of framed posters that included this following information. WHAT A DEAL! For a combined long term stay discount and senior discount, it's $59.23 per night. Breakfast is included, and some have happy hours in the afternoon. That leaves $128.77 a day for lunch and dinner in any restaurant we want, or room
service, laundry, gratuities and special TV movies. Plus, they provide a spa, swimming pool, a workout room, a lounge and washer dryer, etc. Most have free toothpaste and razors, and all have free shampoo and soap. $5 worth of tips a day you will have the entire staff scrambling to help you. They treat you like a customer, not a patient. There’s a city bus stop out front, and seniors ride free. The handicap bus will also pick you up (if you fake a decent limp). To meet other nice people, call a church bus on Sundays. For a change of scenery,
take the airport shuttle bus and eat at one of the nice restaurants there. While you’re at the airport, fly somewhere. Otherwise, the cash keeps building up. It takes months to get into decent nursing homes. Holiday Inn will take your r e s e r v a t i o n t o d a y. And you’re not stuck in one place forever—you can move from Inn to Inn, or even from city to city. Want to see Hawaii? They have a Holiday Inn there too. TV broken? Light bulbs need changing? Need a mattress replaced and weekly change of sheets? No problem... They fix
everything and apologize for the inconvenience. The Holiday Inn has a night security person and daily room service. The maid checks to see if you are ok. If not, they will call an ambulance. Or the undertaker. If you fall and break a hip, Medicare will pay for the hip, Holiday Inn will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life. There’s no problem with visits from the family or with kids in the swimming pool. They will always find you a picnic place and reservations if the family or friends want to stay a few days on vacation with you.
Actually, I was only going to send this to my friends, but then what about my longtime readers? Lots of “Seasoned Citzens” out there! After this pandemic is over with, hopefully we all can still afford a great deal At the Holiday Inn. I wonder if they have “GROUP RATES?’ Love to seein ya’al smile!!! And folks, I am already 91, but when I eventually reach that “Golden Age” in time they talk about, I’ll face it with a grin and be looking for ya’al around the swimming pool at my home in the Holiday Inn!!

After Hail, Heavy Winds Hit Central Texas, Residents Must Prepare For Roofing Scams Fraudulent contractors can take advantage of desperate homeowners needing repairs. AUSTIN, TX — To d a y, t h e R o o f i n g Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT) issued a warning to residents to beware of fraudulent contractors after hail storms hit Central Te x a s f r o m Wa c o t o College Station and small pockets from north Austin to Georgetown earlier this week. "After the hail and high winds that hit parts of Central Texas, including Caldwell, Travis, Bastrop and Hays c o u n t i e s , homeowners need to take extra precautions to avoid falling for a roofing scam," said Sarah Ramon, director of the RCAT. "Fortunately, there are a few simple steps residents can take to protect themselves." When hiring a roofing contractor, make sure you: * Get more than one bid
* Hire local and check references * Require a written contract and proof of insurance * Do NOT provide payment upfront As one of the few states that does not require roofers to obtain licenses or register their businesses, Texans can be particularly vulnerable to roofing scams. Fraudulent contractors typically flock to storm-ridden areas a n d o ff e r f a s t , c h e a p repairs for a high down payment, but leave before any work is completed. Unfortunately, scammers often target vulnerable populations including low-income and elderly Texans. "Especially given the high unemployment rates and many strapped wallets, these scams could mean financial disaster for many struggling Texans,"

said Ramon. "We're doing everything in our power to help homeowners protect against losing money to scammers." Leading up to the 2021 Legislative Session, RCAT will look to pass legislation providing consumer protections in this completely unregulated industry. Although R C AT m a d e h i s t o r i c progress in this type of legislation during the 2019 session, the legislation was ultimately defeated on the House floor. For now, it is up to Texans to spot and send scammers packing.
