MONTGOMERY WHITEWATER
Montgomery Whitewater is a 120-acre outdoor recreation and entertainment complex off the bank of the Alabama River on the edge of downtown Montgomery. Designed to be completed in multiple phases, phase I of Montgomery Whitewater opened in July 2023. It includes the park’s main attraction, two manufactured whitewater channels, where 12 million gallons of water are continuously pumped and recirculated to create more than 310,000 square feet of rolling "river" rapids. Additionally, there is a restaurant and bar overlooking the Competition Channel, paved walking and bike trails alongside both channels, multiple greenspaces, a fully-stocked retail store, and an outdoor concert venue.
Montgomery Whitewater's massive river system is divided into two channels: Adventure and Competition. The adventure channel is for novice or intermediate skill
levels, and participants can be as young as eight. It’s an excellent introduction to whitewater but also offers enough action to entice those with paddling experience to steer a kayak, in atable kayak, or unguided raft through its rapids. The Competition Channel is more challenging and designed to mimic Olympic-standard competition channels, challenge expert paddlers, as well as host kayak races (like the Alabama Cup series in October) and other competitive events. Guided rafting trips are available on both channels.
Phase II of the outdoor recreation and entertainment complex will include ropes and zip-lining courses, hiking and bike trails, a rock-climbing wall, and access to explore the Alabama River on atwater kayaks and standup paddle boards.
BETTER BY DESIGN
Montgomery Whitewater's channels were designed by engineer Scott Shipley and his rm S20. In combination with S20's years of experience, Shipley brings his insight and expertise to the project. A veteran of three Olympic games ('92, '96, '00) and holder of four world titles, he was one of the world's leading paddling competitors for over 25 years.
This combined skill set has made Shipley the go-to designer for some of the world's most demanding whitewater design projects. He's also credited with innovations in the eld, such as a patented Whitewater Terrain Park system that rede nes whitewater recreation and a patented moveable obstacle system that is the world's rst three-dimensional modular obstacle allowing for complete recon guration of an existing whitewater park.
MORE ADVENTURE, MORE FUN!
The park is packed with activities and amenities, including Eddy's full-service restaurant and bar, an outdoor concert venue, trails, and more.
Approximately 2,000 people can paddle the channels each day. Twelve million gallons of water are continually recirculated, resulting in an alwaysexciting over ow of whitewater fun.
READY TO PLAN YOUR VISIT?
A Day Pass gets you access to all of the parks current activities, such as rafting, the park is free to enter for those wanting to enjoy a drink or meal, shop the out tters store, climb the bouldering wall or simply catch the best sunset in town. Book your Day Pass or rafting trip online now at montgomerywhitewater.com.
Hostto 2024
CATCH THE WAVE
Grab some friends and climb in a raft to enjoy every dip, spin, and bounce under an expert's instruction and watchful eye. The outdoor recreation and entertainment complex's expert raft guides help guests navigate the channels so they can safely experience the maximum amount of fun from their adventure. If your skills are more advanced, rent a raft, in atable kayak, or standup paddleboard and guide yourself down the whitewater channels. Whether you're a whitewater pro or never picked up a paddle, Montgomery Whitewater is for you.
COME PLAY OUTSIDE
Fun awaits all ages at Montgomery Whitewater Park! While you may not be tackling the rapids, there's plenty more to explore, especially designed with kids in mind. Rent bikes and enjoy a leisurely cruise through the park, a refreshing alternative if rafting isn't your thing. Watch as the kids test their skills on the bouldering wall and ropes course, ideal for ages 8 and up.
ENJOY RIVERSIDE RHYTHM
Experience live performances under the open sky at the picturesque Montgomery Whitewater Park. Delight in a myriad of concert series held throughout the season, including The Get Down Concert Series, Golden Hour Festival, and Friday Night Live just to name a few. From nationally renowned acts to emerging artists with local ties, each brings their unique melodies to accompany your adventures, whether it's rafting, outdoor pursuits, or simply savoring a sunset happy hour.

Usually refers to more casual “home cooking” spots and means the menu offers a plate with your choice of one meat (fried chicken, country fried steak, fried catfish — sensing a pattern here?) and three sides, usually Southern-style vegetables like fried okra, fried green tomatoes, squash casserole, creamed corn, collard greens and more. Often served with cornbread or a biscuit.
Grits:
A creamy, savory porridge-like dish made from ground hominy and often embellished with cheese. Shrimp & Grits is a favorite Dixie dish.
Sweet Tea:
The default setting when you order a glass of iced-tea down here. And sweet means S-W-E-E-T. Specify “unsweet” if you don’t want any sugar. Or ask for half-and-half for just a little sweetness.

MAXWELL GUNTER MONTGOMERY
Montgomery and Maxwell Air Force Base have always been close partners, and the capital city is proud to have a military institution of such stature as part of its community.
In 2015, the warm welcome and strong support that Montgomery has consistently provided to all who live and work at Maxwell earned the city a prestigious national award, the Altus Trophy.
The recognition is presented annually to the city that has shown the most “outstanding support to an Air Education and Training Command base,” and Montgomery was chosen from many other cities for the distinction.
The city has a long history of aviation excellence, starting back in 1910, when the famous “fathers of ight,” the Wright brothers, chose Montgomery as the spot for their rst civilian ying school. That same site would later become Maxwell Air Force Base.
Through the years, city leaders and everyday citizens have reached out to Maxwell by holding events like Military Appreciation Week and Military Night at Biscuits baseball games. In addition, The Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce includes a Military Support Council that regularly holds events like “Eggs and Issues” breakfast meetings that allow military representatives and city and state leaders to gather and discuss important issues.
THE TOWN OF PIKE ROAD GOOD NEIGHBORS
A quintessential Alabama “hometown,” the Town of Pike Road welcomes all to experience its well-blended mix of old and new.
Our motto is 'Welcome Home,’ these words exemplify the spirit of this town and the feeling we try to convey to everyone who comes here to visit or stay.
CONNECTED & COMMUNITY-FOCUSED
Situated in eastern Montgomery County, the Town of Pike Road is a perfect snapshot of small-town life, o ering pastoral scenery and a more leisurely pace that feels a whole world away, yet is only minutes from all that the neighboring capital city o ers. This combination gives the town a personality all its own, and residents invite everyone to come see what makes it special.
The Town of Pike Road is relatively young, just 26 years after its incorporation in 1997. As a growing municipality, the town o ers everything a community needs — including a bright future. However, despite its youth as a municipality, the Town of Pike Road includes historic communities that have thrived in the area for over 200 years. Designated the fastest-growing municipality in Alabama for the past two decades, the town’s mission statement Planning for Progress while Maintaining Character is evident in both its peaceful, hometown feel and energetic, fresh ideas.
The town’s sprawling meadows and woodland glens are dotted with over 70 unique neighborhoods, each with its own personality and including some of the region’s oldest settlements. The population of over 10,000 residents is diverse, with citizens across the demographic spectrum calling the Town of Pike Road home.
PLANNING FOR PROGRESS
Its ability to attract such a variety of people is proof of Pike Road’s appeal. Yet, perhaps the town’s greatest asset is its commitment to preserving the past while planning wisely for the future. Small family farms and equestrian facilities maintain the town’s ties to its agricultural roots, and as new businesses and energetic neighborhoods come to the area, this creates a harmonious mix of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Since its incorporation, the Town of Pike Road has expanded to a new crossroads – near the intersection of Pike and Vaughn Road. This town center is home to Town Hall and a variety of bustling businesses and restaurants, ranging from small and locally-owned to the new Publix that opened in 2021. Similar town centers are planned for historic community areas across the town, each with a unique investment such as a cultural or entrepreneurial center that will provide opportunities for citizens now and in the future.
To ensure continued prosperity, the Town of Pike Road encourages citizen input and thoughtful planning to determine its direction. Town leadership and sta continuously evaluate both opportunities and needs of the growing municipality.
One major priority has now been realized: In December 2010, the town established a public school system. Over the past decade, Pike Road Schools has celebrated several graduating classes and grown to serve over 2,700 students. The town is looking forward to the construction of a new high school on the horizon.
CULTIVATING QUALITY OF LIFE
A focus on quality of life keeps citizens connected as the town experiences exciting population growth. The ENHANCE initiative, created in the early days of the town to meet the interests expressed by the community, forms a roadmap for tailor-made quality of life programs. The work of volunteer-led groups like the Pike Road Arts Council, Agriculture & Stewardship Club, and Business Association provide opportunities for the community to connect, learn, and grow together.
The Town of Pike Road is proud to provide a home for these interests with the recent creators of the Pike Road Arts Center on Wallahatchie Road and the Agriculture, Recreation & Performing Arts Park across town on Trotman Road. Amidst a constant array of art shows and workshops, the Pike Road Arts Council’s Plein Air Paint Out, an outdoor painting event hosted each October, brings together more artists than nearly any other in Alabama. The Park includes an open-air arena and community education space, and a multi-use ball field complex opened this year to welcome local players. Future plans include other educational and agricultural amenities, as well as an amphitheater.
Through the Business Association, the Town o ers opportunities for businesses of all sizes to benefit from multiple topics, including digital marketing and the possibilities of entrepreneurship. With partners including Troy University Continuing Education & Outreach, the Auburn University Government & Economic Development Institute, and local businesses, 2024’s Business Association o erings will connect our business leaders with the knowledge-based opportunities of tomorrow, inspiring and encouraging business growth and success.
In addition to the continually expanding programming provided by the Town’s ENHANCE initiative, additional recreation amenities are on the horizon. Future projects in the Town include tennis courts, an amphitheater, and more. As part of a commitment to expand natural resource amenities, the Town continues to develop its parks and the Natural Trail system, a pedestrian-friendly opportunity to get outside and connect with neighbors.
ART, AGRICULTURE, AND EVERYTHING ELSE
There is something for everyone in the Town of Pike Road, whether it’s getting your hands into the dirt or on to a paint brush. The ENHANCE initiative, created in the early days of the town to meet the interests expressed by the community, forms a roadmap for tailor-made quality of life programs. The work of volunteer-led groups like the Pike Road Arts Council and Agriculture & Stewardship Club provide opportunities for the community to connect, learn, and grow together.

Future plans include other educational and agricultural amenities, as well as an amphitheater. Also designed with community in mind, the Town of Pike Road Natural Trail System provides opportunities for walking, jogging, horseback riding, and trail cycling as it connects both historic communities and emerging neighborhoods. Portions of the Natural Trail currently run alongside Marler, Meriwether, and Wallahatchie Roads, with trailhead facilities providing parking, restrooms, and picnic space at both ends of Marler Road. Once completed, the Natural Trail will span over 30 miles as it highlights the beauty of the town’s rural landscapes.

MILLBROOK COMFORT. CONVENIENCE. COMMUNITY.
As more and more people make Millbrook their home, the City continues to ourish and evolve with enhanced opportunities to live, shop and play. Great things are happening!
A Proud History
With a rich heritage dating back to the 1700s, the Millbrook area, including Robinson Springs, Coosada, Deatsville and Elmore, was known for such prominent leaders as Bolling Hall, William Wyatt Bibb, John Archer Elmore and Benjamin Fitzpatrick. The rst pioneer home built in present day Millbrook was known as Ellerslie, constructed in 1818 by Bolling Hall, a well-known statesman and planter of that time. Hall’s home still stands and is included in the National Register of Historic Places.
Between World War I and World War II, the communities of Millbrook, Coosada, and Robinson Springs, later referred to as the Tri-Community, began to evolve and grow, adding schools, churches and rail transportation. Contributing to the population growth during this era were unfortunate outbreaks of diseases in the more populated city of Montgomery. As a result, Millbrook became a place to retreat during the long, hot summers. Soon, the seasonal population began to stay year round.
” Millbrook is full of wonderful gems that make our community unique and interesting. Be sure to stop by next time you are in the area.

Thriving Community
Incorporated in 1977, Millbrook is a growing Interstate 65 city, strategically located just ten miles north of Montgomery, the capital of Alabama. Known as the western gateway to Elmore County, the City is easily accessed at Interstate 65 exits 176, 179 and 181. Alabama Highways 14 and 143 are also key corridors in the city where retail and commercial development continues to thrive. A variety of housing options are available to those who want to enjoy the best of two worlds — small city comforts plus urban conveniencescreating a relaxing way of life underpinned by a genuine sense of community.
LIVE. WORK. PLAY.
Looking Forward
Today, the area retains the best of its early features and natural resources, while aggressively pursuing economic development opportunities. Millbrook has experienced a more than 40 percent increase in its population in the last 20 years, and this in ux of new residents has spurred unprecedented residential building, which in turn has attracted new commercial development that keeps gaining momentum.
The great outdoors plays a prominent role in Millbrook’s quality of life, with six well-equipped and maintained public parks that provide recreational options for all ages. A new mega sports complex, called 17 Springs, is currently under development that will transform the Highway 14 corridor and position the city as a regional draw and destination point. Other outdoor activities can be enjoyed at nearby Lakes Martin and Jordan, the Alabama River, the Alabama Nature Center and the Grandview YMCA. The City will continue to capitalize on these recreational opportunities.
