WHO’S BEEN SNOOPED?

As I entered the front door, I felt like a kid again. The bright bold colors and reception area filled with fun stuff to do is a great way to welcome the youngest client for their first haircut. I was greeted by one of the stylists with a great big smile and cordial hello. I told her I was researching the place for a friend and was really impressed with the décor.

The place was full and every one of the kids was having a great time. I highly recommend that you visit in person or go to the website to check out these neat styling chairs that look like cars at www.lollipophaircutshop.com. I would have loved this place as a kid.

Haircuts for the Young Well, we are getting ready to spring forward our clocks to a beautiful day.

Off to the west is a clear picture of our famous Mt. Diablo nestled in the beautiful surrounding hills, which just may turn green yet, after the much needed recent rains. That being said, there is nothing better than a great haircut to help you spring into a new season.

On assignment, I am off to visit one of East County’s finest hair cut establishments for the younger generation. Remembering my youth, I always dreaded that day, because it seemed like they just chopped it off and it was always too short. Lollipop Haircut Shop is the greatest idea, well, since the lollipop itself. Located on Lone Tree Way a couple of doors down from the Goodwill Store, this wonderland for haircuts can be seen from the parking lot with its great Lollipop logo on the sign.

I think the best part of Lollipops is the cleanliness. Everything is bright and cheery and immaculate. The styling stations are so cute with four different car designs to choose from. The kids that were there getting haircuts ALL had smiles on their faces and were enjoying the experience. They have a Baby’s 1st Haircut Package where you receive a certificate, photo and lock of hair for memories that last forever and every customer gets a free lollipop.

BRILLIANT! They also have a variety of professional products and a line just for kids. How cool is that? You can either

walk in or make an appointment and they are open Monday through Saturday and three Sundays a month. They open at 10:00am weekdays and 9:00am on Saturday. They also do buzz cuts, bangs and hair wash. Imagine being able to watch television in a miniature racecar and get your haircut from a really nice lady. Then, get a lollipop too!

Although it appears to be just for kids, these gals also do adult haircuts. Now that is a great plus! You can bring your kids for an enjoyable experience and get your hair done at the same time. And if you’re good, you too can get a lollipop.

So, Carolyn, Clara and Adela, owners of Lollipop Haircut Shop, this secret shopper gives you, ten cherry flavored (those are the red ones and my favorite) lollipops for bringing this delightful business to our county and taking such wonderful care of our kids. Your staff and your salon are absolutely wonderful and highly regarded by all who patronize you. Who will be snooped next? It could be you!

Save Water as Easy as 1, 2...

Living “green” means conservation of all kinds. In addition to things like recycling and better-planned resources for construction, it also includes taking steps to achieve greater energy-efficiency and saving one more often overlooked, but critical resource: water.

How important are toilets? According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), toilets account for 30% of the water used inside a home (assuming they don’t leak or keep running). If yours is more than 10-years old, it uses about 3.5 gallons of water per flush. In an average household with three or four people and a couple of toilets, that’s a lot of water used per day. Newer highefficiency toilets use only 1.6 gallons per flush. Big difference (about 2 gallons per flush) and they cost as little as $100.

Water conservation has become a national priority, and in some areas of the country, it is now an urgent concern mandating reductions in usage.

Toilet-wise, things got even better when an Australian named Bruce Thompson invented the “dual flush” commode that uses a small one gallon flush for liquids and a larger 1.6 gallon flush for solids.

While these super-johns are catching on fast, they are a bit pricey and can cost from $200 to $750. Still, they are gaining in popularity and sales are steadily increasing.

Saving water starts with the obvious.

First, fix leaks, from dripping faucets to running toilets. Second, monitor and reduce the amount of water you are actually using. This includes more efficient yard watering, sweeping driveways versus hosing them down, shorter showers, not running water while brushing teeth or doing dishes, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera... you get the idea.

However, for those who are both water-conscious and cost-conscious, a new product introduced at this year’s

MARCH 18 - OLD SACRAMENTO UNDERGROUND TOURS A day in Sacramento, Sponsored by Brentwood Senior Citizen’s Club Inc. Your group will be divided into two tour groups to explore excavated foundations and enclosed pathways while your tour guide recounts the tales of devastation, perseverance and determination that led to California’s only successful street-raising project. A short distance away, you will board the Delta King, a beautiful floating hotel with modern lodging amenities and 2 acclaimed restaurants offering casual and fine dining. Departure is at 8:30am and we will return at 5:00pm. Cost per person is $50 members and $60 non-members. Cost includes: Roundtrip transportation, Admission to the Sacramento History Museum, Guided Tour, Hosted lunch onboard the Delta King & Free time in Old Sacramento.
