The Magic of Christmas
With every year a new surprise, I couldn’t wait to walk in the door to begin my experience. Off to the left was adorned in glistening silver and ivory touched by a dusting of flocked snow. Every inch in each staged area carries the full color scheme and design theme, with baskets strategically placed so you can purchase one trimming or ask for assistance to put together the whole design in your home. Now this counts ten extra points as I have personally witnessed the wonderful customer service given by Geri and her staff for answering even the smallest question or giving assistance with any design.
The date is December 1. The mission is to find the perfect place to discover the magic of Christmas. The journey for me is a familiar one as I have been going there since it first opened. The luxury is, I now get to share this remarkable experience with our readers. So, with my traditional scarf around my neck, my furry boots on my feet and my eyes wide open, I head to Historic Downtown Brentwood to Exclusively Yours for my annual visit to Winter Wonderland. Standing guard at the front door is a life size tin soldier welcoming all who enter. You know once you peek in the front windows that this is not going to be your typical chain store visit. Owner and designer Geri Palmer has been creating exquisite designs for over 20 years. I believe she is a hopeless romantic as her work just oozes love for life, laughter and joy, not only during the Christmas season, but throughout the year at weddings, parties and large events. I personally
There must have been a dozen or more trees designed throughout the store. Each one fully dressed from top to bottom with matching ornaments, ribbon and bows. The thing I like most about her trees is each one has a character, some big and some small and one with six foot angel wings. Most include wonderful whimsical fairies and Santas, each matching the areas color and theme. I always catch myself talking out loud saying things like “Oh my, this is beautiful!” and “I can just imagine this in my home!” The best part is, by the time
I have spent my full hour admiring every inch, I have spoken to each of the stuffed Santa and elf characters while singing along with the Christmas carols. I keep expecting someone to come around the corner and ask me if I am OK. Probably my favorite part of this journey is how magical it is. It seems as though each area comes to life. From the single chair with a simple draped throw strategically placed by the tree with a character staring right at you as if to say “Good tidings to you” to the large snowflakes hanging from the ceiling as if they just fell from the sky. Many of my friends have some eye for decorating and design and others are puzzled by the whole thing. After spending some time in the store, even the least artistic person can begin to envision transferring these spectacular designs to their own home. And did I mention how they love to help you make your ideas come to life? So dear friend, you have been snooped by a true admirer! TRAVEL TIME Happy Holidays to each and every one of you. It’s the time of year to renew ourselves and also to renew family and friendships for yet another year. And as always it is time to GETAWAY FROM YOUR EVERYDAY. We have been in this business now for over 35 years and it never ceases to amaze us the questions most asked. The most often asked question is when is the best time to fly. Translated into simple language it means when is the most affordable time to fly? There really is an answer to this question, and to put all of your minds at ease, the days of the week that traditionally air fares are lowest are Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. Of course there are exceptions to the rule as there is in our lives. Mainly those exceptions center around any national holiday especially the biggest holidays at the end of the year and also July 4th.
There are blackout dates during those holidays and discounts are rarely given or available.

The next question normally asked of us is when is the best time to cruise.
Having a group helps with some vendors, offering lower rates for groups. You can be just a family traveling together or a church group or service group or any type of club as well. So, as you see there are ways to save some $$$$ when traveling and we are only too happy to help and assist you with any ideas or requests you may have.
The Caribbean, in most cases, has the best deals in winter and early spring with the exception of the end of the year holidays and Easter.

Spaces Between Front Teeth Diastema or spacing between teeth is a normal sequence of jaw growth and development. The most common diastema occur between the maxillary central incisors. The prevalence of diastema in young children is quite high, more than 60%. The prevalence decreases by the time children reach 11 and is gradually eliminated by age 15 in most children. Diastema results from discrepancy between the jaw growth and the sizes of the erupted teeth. In some individuals the diastema may persist into adulthood and this could be genetic. Some develop diastema during the mixed dentition, which is when baby teeth start falling and permanent teeth erupt. Most of these spaces close after the permanent canines come in. The formation of diastema or spacing in adult patients however may be a sign of oral disease such as advanced gum disease. Other contributing factors could be presence of a thick band of tissue between the teeth
The acceptance of the space between the upper front teeth varies greatly among individuals and has different perceptions of attractiveness in various cultures. Spaces between teeth should be addressed early on in children or these spaces could be permanent. The dentist will determine the cause of the space and

Improving Our Community I don’t like to toot my own horn, but as 2015 comes to a close, this seems like a good time to let you know what I’ve accomplished in my third year as your Assemblymember. I’m pleased to say that a half-dozen of my bills were signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown this year. By now, you may have heard about Assembly Bill 1369, which will requires public schools to screen and identify students who are dyslexic and to use proven teaching methods to address their educational needs. I am particularly proud of this bill because it came about after a Brentwood coffee, when constituent Tobie Meyer told me about the trouble she had getting the right educational services for her son. Tobie was one of 6,500 parents statewide who supported this bill as it overcame some strong objections.
Another law that resulted from a local need is AB 1323, which allows for clearly abandoned boats to be removed more quickly from California’s waterways and beaches. Meanwhile, AB 638 clarifies that children under age 13 must wear lifejackets when riding outside of an enclosed cabin on all speedboats. AB 345 addresses one of the most common violations of California’s Real Estate Law: failure to supervise. It requires real estate brokers to take a three-hour management course as part of the continuing education they undergo to renew their licenses. I chaired the Assembly Transportation Committee this year, and some of my bills dealt with transportation matters. The Easiest Way To Cure Window Sweats During winter months we receive loads of questions about what causes windows to “sweat” and what to do about the problem. Beyond being a nuisance, this condition can lead to mold, rot and a musty odor throughout a home. Making matters worse, for those in especially cold climates, the sweat freezes and turns to a sheet of ice. This excessive moisture that is commonly referred to as “sweating windows,” is really condensation. Condensation is the process of water vapor in the air turning into liquid water. It’s the same condition that occurs when a cold can of soda is removed from a refrigerator and exposed to room temperature – beads of moisture collect on the outside surface of the can to form a layer of condensation. Condensation is a natural occurrence on all windows and is caused by excess humidity, or invisible water vapor, present in the air. When this water vapor comes in contact with a surface which is at a cooler temperature, the vapor turns to visible droplets of moisture. Many modern energy-efficient windows have features built in to keep the temperature of the glass as warm as possible and thus reduce condensation. For example, insulated glass provides superior energy efficiency to reduce the potential for condensation. However, there is no such thing as a condensationfree window in high humidity conditions. Controlling the amount of moisture in your home is the most effective action you can take to avoid condensation. Window replacement can do wonders to
improve energy efficiency and increase home comfort, but it may do little to avert sweaty window syndrome. As a matter of fact, just the opposite may be true. Ironically, many homeowners are discovering that their new energy-efficient windows have more condensation that their old ones. While well-insulated, tight-fitting windows provide draft-free comfort and can help lower your fuel bills, airtight windows can trap moisture inside your home. Previously, moisture in the air may have leaked to the outside through openings in your old loose-fitting windows, thus preventing condensation. Listed below are a few of the ways to dry out sweating windows: • Open window blinds during the day. This allows sunlight in that will warm interior air to create natural air currents. The improved circulation results in more even temperature and hot and cold spots that result in condensation. • Use fans in bathrooms, kitchens and laundry rooms to remove excess moisture in the air. Bathing, cooking and doing laundry are activities that contribute the most to raising indoor humidity and, consequently, sweating windows. If you don’t have ventilation fans in each of these spaces, install them. If you do have them, use them. And it isn’t enough just to turn them on while you are performing the activity — allow them to run for a period afterwards to fully remove excess moisture. The biggest mistake that most folks make is that they turn the bath fan off just as soon as they finish bathing. Instead, leave the fan to run for up to half an hour to fully remove excess moisture. The same holds true when cooking and doing laundry. • Use a decorative ceiling fan. Many people believe that a decorative ceiling fan is only useful to cool you down on those sticky summer evenings. They’re probably the same ones that are battling condensation. In reality, a good ceiling fan

is like money in the bank year round. In winter, run the fan in the reverse direction at a low to moderate speed. The blades will push air upwards toward the ceiling and down across walls and windows. This air movement will make for more even heating and will dry most windows of condensation. • Air out your home frequently by opening doors and windows. Before there were mechanical vent fans, ceiling fans and dehumidifiers, opening doors and windows was the only means of improving ventilation and removing condensation. In spite of technology, there is no replacement for a little free air and the benefits that it can have on improving indoor air quality. • Reduce the number of indoor house plants, as plants increase humidity levels. If you have a terrarium, you know that the inside surface of the envelope is covered with condensation. That’s no accident – plants and damp soil increase humidity. If you have sweaty windows and lots of house plants, you may need to thin out some of the plants indoors to clear the windows so that you can enjoy the view of the plants outdoors. • Use a dehumidifier to remove excess humidity from the air. A dehumidifier is essentially an air conditioner that has both hot and cold coils in the same container. A fan draws humid air over the cold coil of the air conditioner to condense moisture, which then drips into a collection container. Dry air passes over the hot coil to restore it to its original temperature. For best indoor comfort and health, a relative humidity of about 45 percent is ideal. You can track your home’s humidity with an inexpensive hygrometer.

Can I Keep One Credit Card If I File Chapter 7? Many people in Antioch, Brentwood, Oakley, and Pittsburg have been forced to consider chapter 7 bankruptcy. Most chapter 7 bankruptcies are filed to eliminate credit card bills, medical bills, and often lawsuits. Some people are eager to say “good riddance to bad rubbish” when it comes to credit cards, others like to have at least one credit card after bankruptcy for emergencies or for making reservations or purchases online. Many people wrongly say, “I will not put that card in bankruptcy so that I can keep it.” This notion may seem like common sense; however, in the law it’s wrong. The law requires disclosure of all debts, not just those to be forgiven. Why? The judge is entitled to know everything before deciding whether or not to forgive debts. The corollary is also true: a person does not need to list accounts with a zero balance. Meaning
if an account has a small balance, for example $150, which can be paid before bankruptcy, then the account is not listed in bankruptcy. Unfortunately, paying the bill before bankruptcy is not a sure-fire way to keep the card because a credit card company is free to close an account for any reason or no reason. Often credit cards without a balance are closed by the lender shortly after bankruptcy as a result of “economic circumstances” or a “decline in credit rating.” So what’s a person to do? Most people are surprised to learn they will be pre-approved for new credit cards within 60 days of filing chapter 7 without a deposit or co-signer. These pre-approvals will be for low-limit (usually $300 to $500 limit) credit cards. Nevertheless, this kind of card can be used for convenience as well as rebuilding credit.
