WHY YOU SHOULD COME TO THE “CLUB” CHRISTMAS PARTY I had planned to open this piece with something to the effect of “If you are reading This paper you are most likely a member of our club…” Then I sat and realized, I do not know how many people read this publication, and of that unknown number I do not know how many are members or friends of the German Hungarians. On December 16th “The Club” will be doing something that it has been doing for many years. This date our hall should be full as all of our members should be in attendance at Our Club Christmas Party! This party is not “the Children’s Christmas Party” and it is not “the Dance Group’s Christmas Party”. This is not “the Cultural Group’s Christmas Party”. This event is Our Club Christmas Party! It’s a party for all our members, their families, and their friends. The main point is if you are reading this, you are involved with the club regardless of membership and if you are involved with the club, the club wants to see you at the Christmas Party! Monthly Progress Our Club consistently enters both the US Amateur Cup and the USASA National Open Cup. Teams all across the USA enter at the state level and some advance to regional levels. Some eventually earn the right to play at the National finals. The two Regional Finalists in the USASA Open Cup will automatically be entered into the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, the oldest Cup tournament in the United States. Last year our team went only as far as the State Semi-Final in the Open Cup, losing to Salone FC. In The Amateur Cup our team went as far as the EPSA Amateur Cup Final, losing at Phoenix. Men’s Amateur – The German Hungarian’s Major Team played in the First Round on Nov, 4th West Chester United. Fellow USL of PA team West Chester scored in the 42nd minute and were able to hold on to the lead winning the game 1-0. The loss in this game, meant the end of the GH’s play in the US Amateur Cup. Congratulations to West Chester and good luck to them in the further rounds. Men’s Open - After a bye in the first round that was held on Nov. 11th, The German Hungarian’s Major Team will play in the Second Round on Dec. 2nd at Home against the Junior Lone Star. Junior overcame Mayfair in the first round with a score of 6-0 in their favor. Our club has played Junior Lone Star in the past in both cups and the games are always interesting to say the least! Come out and support the team in their cup run for the Open Cup! ALL CUP GAMES ARE AT 2:00PM UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.

Page 2 At a recent meeting of our Auxiliary, plans for 2013 were discussed. Besides our two Penny Parties we have a number of events we are planning. Some are distinctly for women and some are for all our members and friends. Many have asked about our postponed TEA and this will be held in the near future. More info next month.
Gaufest 2013 The 24. Gaufest will be hosted by the STV Bavaria of Cleveland, Ohio and will take place at the Kalahari Resort on June 20th to June 23rd. We are looking forward to attend and participate in the various activities at this fest. This will be the fifteenth Gaufest that our dancers have attended and the thirteenth for our members. This event is held every other year and over these years we have made many friends and continue to make more. We invite all our members and friends to join us on this trip. More info to follow.
Donauschwaebische Stiftung (We recently received various information from the Danube Swabian Foundation of the USA, Inc.) In this, 2012, our thirtieth year of work as a Foundation, it is good to remember the basic purposes of our Foundation. Those four purposes as described in our bylaws are: 1. To foster, support and encourage the preservation of the customs, traditions, literature, culture and history of the Danube-Swabian people (a Germanic people of Southeastern Europe) 2. To encourage the pursuit of studies in the German language, in the history, culture, literature, music and folklore of the Danube-Swabian people. 3. To provide food, shelter, clothing and other assistance to the Danube-Swabian people in dire need and help caused by Acts of God, war or other disasters. 4. To foster and encourage the participation of the Danube-Swabian youth in amateur athletic competitions at the national and international level. MORE TO COME. CONGRATULATIONS to Mikaela Malofiy! She Recently received the “Best Team Player” Award for Girls Soccer at Hatboro Horsham High School. Mikaela is a lifelong member of the club, a member of our Cultural group and a dedicated member of our Fevernova Soccer Team!

Kirchweih The German Hungarian Traditional Kirchweihfest was held at our club on Saturday, November 10 th. The guests began to arrive shortly after 6 PM and friends were happy to greet each other. The boys and/or men of the Cultural Group arrived in their black traditional Swabian vests, some wearing their Kirchweih hats which they then removed until the performances began. The girls were being dressed by their mothers or grandmothers as this Banater costume is a chore to put on. All were beautifully dressed before the hot dinner buffet was served. It is a pleasure to see the Kirchweih Couples dressed through most of the evening as the costume is not only beautiful but very different from any traditional costume often seen. The hot buffet was set up in the dining room and consisted of roast pig, roast beef with gravy, string beans, pasta and salad, which all enjoyed. A special area featured various parts of the pig, which one could have especially carved by member Claudio Tovaruela. Apple cake, coffee and tea were set up later. The Heimatklaenge Orchestra began playing at 7:30 PM and the dance floor was crowded throughout the evening. This was a rare occasion, as our dancers, young and old, are usually not so enthusiastic! The Cultural Group performances took place as usual during the band breaks. The Kirchweih Couples led by the “Geld Herr” and his partner carrying the Rosmarein Strauss were: Werner Fricker III – Allysa Reiter Michael Fricker – Emma Walter Dan Galgon – Karina Fricker Stevie Paul – Sofi Walter Ed Galgon – Kylie Bonelli Nick Walter – Jenn Lineman Sasha Malofiy – Kristen Reiter Alex Blank – Michelle Paul They proudly passed the strauss to a peppy polka. The Children’s Group performed folk dances ‘I See You”, “Kinderpolka” and “Bauernmadl”, and were assisted by some of the older girls: Jakob Hubert – Sabina Hartman Evan Hubert – Kyra Malofiy Matthew Proll – Emma Walter Ryan Proll – Emily Wagner Nicholas Wagner – Karina Wiehan Christopher Deely – Karina Fricker Of course little Tommy Proll, age one, had to get in the act and “stole the show”. The Kirchweih Couples also performed folk dances – “Kreuz Polka”, “Kreuz Koenig” (we like to call it the “flying dance”), and “Sauerlaender Quadrille”. Sometimes it just all clicks and this was one of those times! The dancers performed beautifully with precision and talent and received great applause and compliments. Their hard work had paid off!!! We thank the Cultural Group Chairman, Susi Hartmann and her committee for all their hard work with the groups. The children with help from the older dancers sold chances for the hat, scarf and the strauss which includes a basket of various goodies and soon it was time for the final performance. At this time the Children’s Group was also included in the Kirchweih Group and all the boys/men wore their flower decorated hats which of course they did not wear during the folk dance performances. Werner III ably recited the “Kirchweih Spruch” in German as the group danced in a circle to the “stickels” when Werner called “Musik”. A circle symbolizes many things. In this case it symbolizes a group of people bonded together by a special interest – their heritage. Werner as a third generation American did a great job. (He’s more second generation but since I’m the only one who makes him the third generation, I like to call him that). Most of our group are second generation Americans but some are third and fourth generation and we are very proud of all of them, their parents and grandparents. May the United German Hungarians preserve their club and their traditions for many years to come. The hat was won by Walt Hartmann; the scarf by Lisa Fricker; and the strauss by Cindy and Joe Proll. Thanks to all the chairmen and their committee members who made this as well as all events at our club possible. Without the help of these volunteers we could not continue. Thanks to Nichole Deely for taking the reservations. It was a great night and we continue our proud traditions!

Page 4 friendships were made later, when new people joined and were welcomed. But in all reality these people have been friends together at home, and all over the country. Without togetherness, the friendship is strained, and this group would not and could not exist. By this point in this piece you should see that I am building to some important fact. If I put the first two ideas together we create this, “These people are Friends Together...” Let’s add the third part. The third part is fun. Fun is the part that wraps this entire definition up. Fun is what outwardly keeps them all coming back. Dancing, singing, talking, working, learning, eating and drinking together is fun to these people. The group lives by a code that “You have to make your own fun!” Making your own fun requires our first two parts! So now I have finally come to the end of this construction. I have outlined these three parts of the definition of the Cultural Group and that definition is this: “The German Hungarian Cultural Group is Friends Together having Fun!” Mischka
